The Wall

Rate this book
When trendsetting interior designer Alex Demarchelier marries Jack Carter, she has the perfect life, unaware that she is trapped in the clutches of a predator more terrifying than she could ever imagine.

Alex bolted upright in her bed, startled. She held her breath and listened intently. Nothing moved. She slowly leaned on her pillow and lingered in the sweet realization that the nightmare wasn’t real. She was OK.
Then reality hit. She wasn’t OK. Her life was falling apart. Fast.
Looking in from the outside, she was still living her dream. She had a loving husband, wonderful home, thriving business, recognition, prestige. Seemingly she had it all. But she didn’t…
Nothing prepared her for this. Nothing. No warning, no signs telling her ‘run away as fast as you can and never look back.’ Nothing she could see.
Because she never tangoed with evil before.

As it races to its final surprising twist, this gripping thriller takes readers on a page-turning journey filled with love, betrayal, and revenge.

International bestselling author I. C. Cosmos loves storytelling and dreamed of being a writer since as far back as she can remember.

Before turning to writing fiction, she was a business consultant and a director of an expertise center for forensic psychiatry, which was a marvelous training for creating fictitious villains.

I. C. writes thrillers in two series, The Alex Demarchelier series (The Wall, The Deal, The Code, The Enabler), and The Collin Frey series (The Project). However, there is a connection between The Project and The Alex Demarchelier series :-)

I. C. and her husband live in Texas.

Read about 10% of this book, and I'm already lost. I think the author set off with some good ideas but it is not working out. Some parts read like an oldfashioned love story, other parts are supposed to give an insight to the life of the extremely rich but are absolutely boring.

The story centers around Alex....who had everything. Beautiful home, handsome husband (Jack) and money. She was the best at what she did - interior designing and her husband built the places she designed for. Together all was well....perfect....but was it?

You see Jack had a psycho ex-wife, Vivien, (who I would have killed) and she made life miserable. Why not? She was miserable....a greedy little witch (not the word I wanted to use, lol) who did everything in her power to bring Alex down.

This book had me turning pages to see what Vivien would do next and she kept surprising me at the lengths she went through to do damage. But it also showed how strong Alex was - "What doesnt kill you, makes you stronger". So true.

My only regret is that it ended BUT this is Book 1 and so I must wait to read the continuing story of Alex Demarchelier...looking forward to it.

Alex Demarchelier marries Jack Carter. She has a perfect life ... until. It wasn't.

This a story of love, betrayal, and revenge. Lust and evil destroy.

I almost stopped reading this book, but I pushed on and it did get a little better. Amazon comments made Vivien the villain, having not one good quality. She was portrayed as a psycho ex-wife to Jack, making his life miserable. She was but the question is why? Jack dated Alex while he was married to Vivien. In my book, Jack is the villain. This story shows the horribleness of divorce. It destroys. I feel sorry for Vivien, who's heart was stomped on.

For the life of me, I don't understand women who get involved with a married man. Alex doesn't trust Jack, and she has good reason not to. After all, he created on his wife to be with her. How can a relationship survive without trust? Answer - it can't.

There was a huge cast of characters. I had a tough time keeping them straight. Having said that, this being the author's first book, I'd say it was good.

Captivating

Enjoyed the intriguing plot. Had a hard time putting the book down. Left me in suspense to the end. I would definitely recommend this book and the author to others. Thank you!

Boring and annoying. I started to skim it after getting 1/4 way through then finished the last few chapters. I actually had the sequel, THE DEAL, waiting to read next, but I am going to return it to the library unread. Don't waste your time, is my advice.

The first 70% of the book was definitely a page turner, and I especially liked how the character Vivian was constructed. I experienced very strong emotions while reading about her interactions with her target characters, and this is something I always appreciate when reading a book of this genre. However, the last 30% of the book did not deliver, and I think there are two main reasons for this. First, there were too many mysteries unraveling one on top of the other, while the first part of the book had not equally built them towards the climax and resolution. Second, as some other readers pointed out, I agree that the bond between Alex and Perry materializes kind of suddenly, without the proper prior development. Another thing that spoiled the last art of the book for me was the character inconsistencies of Perry and Marty; their change of heart regarding their choices and attitudes are not always plausible (e.g. Perry first believed rumours about Alex, only to then change his mind seemingly with little proof, and then to profess his love?!). Overall, the book did make for a good spare time read and I would be curious to check out a sequel.

I am giving this book a 2. The plot had possibilities. The heroine is an interior designer. She and all those around her are wealthy, successful, and social. They design fabulous buildings all over the world, live is splendor in places around the world. A reasonable person would assume that such people would be aware of the dangers of technology and immediately become suspicious when those around them wishing them evil know more about their lives than they, themselves do. Not so!

The viciously selfish and evil bad guy (who in this book is a woman) achieves great and continuous mayhem throughout most of the book. At the 3/5th point in the book, I was scanning first lines of paragraphs just so I could finish the book and move on.

This is shown as book #1 so presumably this is a series, one I will seriously not continue with. Shown as author's debut novel. One can only hope she improves with practice

I'm being generous with three stars because this is a new author. Like other readers, I found character development lacking, it seemed to hopscotch around with chapters, confusing and hard to follow. The premise was a good one, it just wasn't executed. I liked Alex and and later found her to be very naive. And Vivien, and evil, vindictive witch. If there is to be a second book, as indicated, I won't be reading it. Sorry!

Computer underworld

Such a complex, compelling, intriguing, fascinating, look into the many layers of deceit and deception that can happen behind the faceless screens of today's electronic world. An amazing story that brought to light what horrible evils lurk in the hearts and minds of a vengeful few. Great intricately woven read.

Wow! Just WOW!!!

I read book after book. Have been since I was a kid. This book was so very intricate with so much texture it boggles my mind a person could put a story like this together! I’m a clinician/ counselor, and consider myself as person with the ‘gift of gab’. I cannot imagine writing something like this amazing and entertaining book!!

Really good read

It took me longer to read this book than usual. After several attempts to become engrossed in the story and characters, I suddenly realized I was eagerly anticipating each new chapter. I can not believe that is her first novel! Excellent book with well-defined characters and intrigue.

A new writer for me and Wow!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, found it difficult to put down. Liked the characters and liked to dislike the villainess. It is tastefully written with a story line that has a tapestry of characters and situations. I will definitely read more of her books.

Great read from a picky reader!

I have hard time finding books that really excite me, after John Marrs spoiled me with his book When you Disappeared I have a very high standard now. This book will not disappoint.

Excellent Read

So glad I read this novel. The characters were well-developed and the storyline kept me intrigued. A number of typos, but became adept at mentally correcting them. Satisfying ending.
Will read more by this author.

The book failed to keep me engaged. Seemed to be written haphazardly, with characters changing(not evolving) very randomly. The end especially was very disappointing, the writer failed to build any of the characters properly, not even Vivian (who defies reality!!!). Lazy writing!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait to see if justice would finally be served and I've never seen a character as devious as Vivien. A great read. Kudos!
