Hot Cakes #5

Oh, Fudge

Rate this book
Paige Asher likes her men the way she likes her coffee: hot, slightly sweet, and only to-go.

The hot friend-of-a-friend she had a scorching single night with was just about perfect — tall, rugged, with a sexy drawl… and on the road out of town by six a.m. the next morning. Long before her mom could start picking out wedding flowers.

But now she can’t stop thinking about the Louisiana boy. His texts make her smile and she suddenly has a craving for gumbo all the time… hot and spicy and far from home.

Mitch Landry had no idea Iowa would be so hospitable to a visitor. He knew the Midwest had a reputation for friendliness but his welcome gift — a sassy, sweet blond who is as no-strings-attached as he is — was a dream come true six months ago.

But why is he still texting her? And why did he jump at the chance to come back to Iowa? And why is he so annoyed by her phobia to commitment this time? And why is he pretty sure leaving Paige this time is going to be one of the hardest things he’s ever done?

Damn, is this what falling in love feels like?

Oh, fu… fudge.

Oh, Fudge is finished!
I'm so excited for this next trip to Appleby, Iowa!

I'm always excited about a new release but this one is extra special! Oh, Fudge is a just-after-Christmas story set in the world of Appleby and Hot Cakes. BUT, it's also got a "splash" of the bayou! Yep! This is a sexy, fun cross-over story with the Boys of the Bayou series! Ahhhh!

Remember the guy Paige met in Semi-Sweet On You? He's back!
Mitch Landry (yep, THAT Mitch Landry) makes another trip to Iowa from Louisiana! And this time he's the hero!

And...this is just the first part of Paige and Mitch's love story! You get a full story, lots of laughs, hot sex, fun cameos (from both series!), and, of course, plenty of sweets (this is a Hot Cakes story after all!) and a happily for now!!

BUT, you know how you always wish a novella was longer and you could see more of the couple?
I get it! And I'm here to tell you that that will not be a problem with Oh, Fudge! :)
Book six in the Boys of the Bayou series is coming in February!! And it's more of Paige and Mitch!

So, get ready! There's lots more to come and you won't want to miss any of it!

Pre-order Oh, Fudge now at your favorite retailer!

Then, if you haven't visited Autre, Louisiana in the Boys of the Bayou series, now is the perfect time to catch up!

The Boys of the Bayou series:
My Best Friend's Mardi Gras Wedding
Sweet Home Louisiana
Beauty and the Bayou
Crazy Rich Cajuns
Must Love Alligators (another holiday novella and you get more Mitch here!)
Book six... cover and title reveal on November 9th!

Can't wait to tell you more!

OH, FUDGE (Hot Cakes Book #5, Prequel Boys of the Bayou Book #6) by Erin Nicholas is a steamy rom-com novella bridge book between two of her contemporary romance series. This is a bridge book and foreshadows the coming romance in “Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour” (Boys of the Bayou Book #6), but this novella rom-com does not end with a HEA. This book can be read as a standalone novella, but I believe it will be more enjoyable if you have read other books in the series.

Paige Asher loves her family, but she wants to live her life on her own terms. In a small town this is extremely difficult. She has her own yoga business, is financially stable, a vegetarian and owner of many cats. Everyone around her is married or in love and they do not understand how she can be happy single and only allowing one-night stands.

Then she has a scorching one-night stand with a hot and sexy Cajun who is a friend of a friend. Paige cannot quit thinking about him and she is surprised that she continues to text him when he returns home.

Mitch Landry loved his trip to Iowa and the sassy and sexy blond he just cannot quit thinking about even though she believes in no-strings-attached sex just like him. He is even more surprised that he is still texting her six months later.

Is this the feeling that all the other Landry’s talk about? Is he falling in love?

I enjoyed this fun crossover novella bridge book. You get more in-depth backstory on why Paige feels the way she does and it makes her more relatable. I love Mitch, like all the other Landry boys, and this novella hints that there is something deeper involved in his belief of his place in the family. While you know you will eventually get your HEA, these two will not go about it in the traditional way. As in all the books in both series, the sex scenes are extremely explicit and steamin’ hot, but I do not feel they are gratuitous.

This is a hot and fun novella and I am looking forward to the rest of Paige and Mitch’s story.

Take one yoga instructor. Add one general handyman. Who is very, VERY good with his hands... Explosive chemistry. A couple meddling families...

It's a recipe for Oh, Fudge ;)

Erin Nicholas's Oh, Fudge is the fifth in the delectable Hot Cakes series set in Appleby, Iowa. It is also the intersection with the incredible Boys of the Bayou series, of Autre, Louisiana, fame.

Paige Asher loves her life as it is--she loves her yoga studio, her cat-adoption program, her loving family... the one hiccup would be the fact that her mother and sisters feel her life incomplete without the man and babies they believe would be the fulfillment of her dreams. Because Paige is a-OK with her single, child-free status. She enjoys dates and sex but can't indulge in much of either without her family (and the town) prepping for wedding bells.

Mitch Landry meets Paige, a friend of a friend, on a trip to Appleby and the two of them have a terrific evening. What boggles their minds though is that what should have been one-and-done? Just isn't. Texting each other months later? So not their modus operandi.

Paige and Mitch are wonderful characters--warm and loving, considerate and competent, these are people I'd love to have as friends. Like always, Ms Nicholas's writing lets them shine as the perfectly imperfect people I can't help but root for. Mitch is not just a charming, hot guy--he pays attention to Paige, and his thoughtfulness and willingness to be vulnerable makes him even more incredibly appealing.

Oh, Fudge is a hot, charming romance--funny, sweet, and addictive, this is another Hot Cakes story for the keeper shelf. Like with fudge, I'll be going back for another serving, again and again!

One of my favorite romance tropes is when a one night stand comes back to bite the participants on the butt, so Oh, Fudge by Erin Nicholas was right up my alley. Smart, fun, and sexy with two people who are pretty sure they don’t want a relationship, but can’t help thinking about what it would be like with the other one long term. Ooops, will these two commitment phobes actually fall into a relationship?

Paige Asher and Mitch Landry met 6 months ago when he was in her hometown of Appleby, Iowa helping his cousin move his girlfriend to Autre and had one sexy, hot night together. They both believe in no commitment only fun, but now 6 months later Mitch returns to help his cousin and his cousin’s fiancée again and they are both very excited to see one another again, they both haven’t gone out with anyone else during that time, and they are both freaking out just a bit.

Ms. Nicholas carefully blends her Boys of the Bayou series and her Midwestern small town Hot Cakes series together in this novella, Oh Fudge, to be continued in Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour. I enjoyed seeing Mitch fit right in with the residents of Appleby and honestly I can’t wait to see how Paige fares in Louisiana. I have a feeling that she’ll fit right in with the women in Mitch’s family, but her yogi lifestyle and vegetarianism may be something they have to get use to, because it’s obvious Paige isn’t changing for anyone.

I loved every sexy, hot minute of this story as well as the sweet, crazy ones, but I’m also looking forward to finding out what makes Paige and Mitch tick, learning a bit more about them and what shaped them into the people they are today.

With a hint of sweetness from Hot Cakes and a whole lot of spice from The Boys of the Bayou; Oh, Fudge was a joy to read and I am highly anticipating what comes next for this couple!

Oh Fudge is this novella good! Paige is a no commitment-i-just-wanna-have-fun type of girl. Her family is an all-in-commitment type of family and cant understand her need to be herself. Her yoga studio slash cat adoption center is keeping her independent but they want the white picket fence for her too. Her? Not so much. When a guy from several states away breezes into her life, its the perfect way to pass the time. Until he contacts her, until he says he's coming back. Mitch might be referred to as a playboy. He treats all the women well but doesnt want more. He is quite content to be a bachelor. Until a girl from several states away grabs his attention. As with every Erin Nicholas book i read, i devoured this. Paige is a woman who is up against just about everyone in her town because she feels differently about marriage. Her goals dont depend upon having a partner to support her. She is in charge of her own destiny. Mitch is a laid back type of guy. He works for his cousins occasionally but is a jack of all trades and is happy to be doing different kinds of work. Its not until he meets and gets to know Paige that he thinks about what he could be doing long term. This couple is so different from any other that i have read from Ms Nicholas. They are both anti commitment but feelings cannot be ignored forever.

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you have found yourself dedicated to Erin Nicholas’s Hot Cakes series, then you’re probably excited about Oh, Fudge, the next book in the Hot Cakes series. This book tells the story of Paige, Josie’s younger sister, the yoga-teaching, cat-adopting, vegetarian. What you should know before entering this book is that 1) it’s a novella at 100-some odd pages, 2) it’s a prequel for the sixth book of Nicholas’s Boys of the Bayou series, and 3) it’s pure set up for some big changes for Paige.

Oh, Fudge reads like a novella of background information. While I haven’t read Nicholas’s Boys of the Bayou series, it was helpful in understanding Mitch, whom I imagine has played small parts in that series’ books. Oh, Fudge also provides more backstory on Paige. While we know her as an ancillary character in the earlier Hot Cakes books, we find out quickly that she is the antithesis to her sister Josie, who is in love with love. As such, Paige is interested in momentary hook-ups. The problem becomes her interest in Mitch and his interest in Paige. This novella illustrates the complicated feelings in the characters of their upcoming book, Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour.

The only real connection in this book to the earlier books of Hot Cakes series is the hot and heavy way that Nicholas weaves in food and the bedroom. Much as we see in those books, Nicholas loves to incorporate this fetish into her Hot Cakes book, and fudge is the central food for this book. Where Oh, Fudge deviates from the other stories of this series is it has a clear distinction away from the other characters. Yes, they are all mentioned at one moment in the story, but it’s unlike the other books where the heroes and heroines of those books are intertwined with the other characters. By the end of Oh, Fudge, Nicholas has Paige and Mitch squarely set for the Boys of the Bayou series. And this reader loves cross-over stories, so I’m excited to read that forthcoming book.

Are Mitch and Paige steamy? Indeed. Does their story provide some basic titillation? Absolutely! Do you get another perspective of Appleby? Yes, yes, and yes! After reading the Hot Cakes series to date, it’s fun to gain another perspective that isn’t grounded in the overwhelming sense of happily-ever-afters with the stories almost being as sweet as the baked goods within their stories. Instead, Oh, Fudge is a nibble at that possibility, yet I imagine there will be more salt in Paige’s story than sweet, and I’m ready for it.

Paige Asher, commitment-phobe had a super hot one-night-stand with another commitment-phobe from Louisiana, Mitch Landy. The best part of that night, besides the best sex of her life was the fact that Mitch was on his way back to Autre, Louisiana early the next morning. For some reason Mitch started texting her and she shocked herself by texting back. When Mitch let her know he was heading back to Appleby Paige was excited. More super-hot sex! But is that the only reason see is looking forward to seeing Mitch again?

Mitch Landry couldn't get Paige Asher out of his mind after their one-night-stand in July. He texted her and she actually texted back. That was a positive sign. Now he has the chance to return to Appleby for a post-Christmas visit. He is looking forward to the snow, but he is especially looking forward to seeing Paige again. He didn't think he wanted to have Paige in his life for just this short visit. What? For real?

Oh, Fudge by Erin Nicholas is the fifth book in her Hot cakes series. This is such a delightful series and Oh, Fudge is a fantastic addition. It is also a crossover book between the Hot Cakes series and the Boys of the Bayou series as well as the prequel to the next book in the Boys of the Bayou series, Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour.

There's lots going on in Appleby, besides hot sex between Paige and Mitch, that is. There's the town festival with lots of great apple themed eats and items, sledding, ice skating, a snowman building contest and the adult snowball fight. Paige makes chipotle fudge for Mitch which sounds interesting. There's Josie and Grant's wedding and a surprise proposal at Buttered Up too. The sexy bantering between Paige and Mitch made me smile a lot throughout my read. Lots of fun in this book!

This is an ooey gooey delectable treat full of charm and humor! It is so sexy, sweet and adorable that it is impossible not to be immediately invested and absolutely charmed by this couple, Mitch Landry and Paige Asher. I really enjoyed the crossover between these two amazing series from Erin Nicholas, Hot Cakes and Boys of the Bayou. What a fantastic idea she had to blend these two worlds together with Paige and Mitch as the focal point. They are both fantastic characters and putting them together is just perfect. I am totally loving their story so far! What was supposed to be a one night stand 6 months ago, turned into flirty correspondence from Iowa to Louisiana and then Mitch making the decision to go see Paige in Iowa again when his cousin Josh and Tori were headed that way anyway. It’s fun seeing Paige get a little rattled by Mitch and his sexy drawl and very capable hands and he is obviously totally smitten with her and it’s just the sweetest thing. If only he can convince her to take a chance on him. I mean I personally will never look at fudge the same way again. Now because this is only the beginning for them, their full story and hopefully what is shaping up to be an amazing HEA will be told in the next Boys of the Bayou book, so we are left hanging, well sort of. But it’s okay in this case. I am now anxiously awaiting the release of Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour and lots more of Mitch and Paige and no doubt some amusing Landry escapades in Louisiana.

Absolute perfection!! The blend of the bayou with midwestern charm made for a sizzling start to Paige and Mitch's story.

I'm a huge fan of both of Erin Nicholas' Boys of the Bayou and Hotcakes series so the fact that she's brought them together in this cross over novella as a just a taste of what's to come...it was pure magic.

Paige and Mitch had a one-night-stand six months ago and neither of them are commitment people, but something about that one night back in the summer sparked...well...something in both of them and now Mitch is back in Appleby and it's now winter. He's never really seen snow that sticks around, or been where he needed a winter coat. Everything about the quaint town draws him in, the people, the hospitality, and especially Paige. Could what they have be more than a one-night-stand? He'd like to find out, but it would require more than a skittish yoga instructor with a fear of commitment. It might take a trip to the bayou.

I can hardly wait to go back down south with the Landry's. Just the small bits where Mitch talked to his family made me laugh and brought back all the warm fuzzies. This prequel is excellent and just so darn good!

What’s better than a favorite book world? TWO favorite book worlds. And when they collide? Well, that’s the pièce de rèsistance, or, in the case of this series, the icing on the cake!

Appleby Iowa meets the Louisiana bayou by way of Paige Asher and Mitchell Landry, and this is just the beginning of their story. I’ll admit, finding a rugged, sultry, bayou-born Landry in wintertime Iowa during the Apple Festival was a surprise of the very best kind.

Paige is one of my favorite types of heroines. She certainly dances to the beat of her own drum, and that dance does not include relationships of the romantic kind. Or marriage, despite the many proposals she's had. Mitch thinks he's on the same page as Paige, but his time with her in Appleby may have him seeing things a little differently.

If you haven’t read anything in the Hot Cakes or Boys of the Bayou series, no worries. These books all stand alone, so you won’t be lost when you jump into this one. It's humorous and sweet, and lighthearted and steamy, and it will whet your appetite for more from these fantastic characters. But these books are a lot like potato chips. You won’t be able to stop at just one!

As always, Erin Nicholas sucks me into one of her worlds, wraps me up in happy, fluffy angst (I know, that seems contradictory but she's a master of it), and takes me on a fun ride through one of her small towns. I knew this was a prequel going in, but I got so caught up in the writing that I forgot until I got to the end and began to lament the wait that I have between now and February when the full book releases.

It doesn't matter that it doesn't end with a HEA though, it's more of a HFN with promises for what's to come, and it was everything I needed in my life right now.

I was wondering how this story was going to go with it being Paige. It was just as good as the other ones. Paige is so independent. She needs nothing and no one. Her family is ever where so she has no way of getting privacy. Mitch is a small town boy with the same kind of family. They were made for each other. Even if they don't see it. This story had so many fun and funny moments. I had tears from the beginning. It also had those sexy moments you know Erin is famous for writing. If you have read Hot Cakes then you are going to know Paige and her family. If you have read Boys of the Bayou then you have seen Mitch around. So when they both come together in this book it is a whole new world. You are going to enjoy this book just as much as you have enjoyed the other ones. It is a crazy, cold world. Stay in and read. It will keep you warm.

I willingly read an ARC of this book as part of the Author’s reader group in exchange for an honest review. Honestly, I wasn’t always a fan of reading, but then I found Erin Nicholas! I encourage ever single reader of rom-com stories to drop everything and start reading her stuff now!

This book is a novella that actually pulls in characters of two different series. Paige is a yoga instructor that you meet in the Hot Cakes stories and she actually meets and has a fling with Mitch, who is one of the quieter characters from the Boys of the Bayou series. This is a fun crossover novella.

I encourage everyone who is reading this review to stop wasting your time here and dive into some awesome adventures with any of Erin Nicholas’ books but especially with her latest series - Hot Cakes - which have some pretty sweet titles!

What happens when one of your favorite authors writes a crossover novella with characters from two of your favorite series? Oh, Fudge!
Paige has no intentions of settling down any time soon so a one night stand with a sexy Bayou guy who is just visiting town is perfect. Until she can't stop thinking about him, or answering his funny, steamy texts, or counting down the days until he visits again. Mitch hasn't been the same since he spent time in Iowa so he jumps at the chance to return. What follows is a hilarious and oh-so-hot visit between two people who have vowed to stay single but just might find themselves falling in love.
I was so excited when Erin Nicholas announced this new story and it was everything I could have wished for! Definitely a must read!!

What is better than combining two of Erin’s series into one book? Nothing....unless you count the amount of sex scenes in this book!! Wow!! Paige is happy being the youngest cat lady spinster in her small town. Mitch is the hot sexy guy she had an amazing night with six months ago. When Mitch comes to Iowa looking for Paige all bets and clothes are off! These two got right back where they left off. I love Both these series and loved every word of this book. This friend group always has me laughing out loud, then add in Paiges meddling family in the mix and it was hysterical. I am Already excited to see what happens next!

This one was really cute! I really liked how the author did it. This book was part of the Hot Cakes series but the book that will continue Mitch and Paige's story will be part of the Boys of Bayou series. And it will be a full-length one which will be awesome. Mitch of course was oozing with southern charm and just made this book interesting. Paige was a great character. I didn't realize in the other books how independent she is and how she goes after what she wants. That's fantastic and honestly added a lot to the story because she didn't fall all over Mitch and vice versa. This novel was short but so good. Don't miss it.

I absolutely love the Boys of the Bayou series, and the Hot Cakes series has been just as terrific. So I was thrilled to find out that we were getting a cross-over between the two!
Paige calls Mitch "a big, hot, dirty-talking, sexy, sweet Cajun," and that pretty much sums him up. He is a Landry through and through, and he steals the scene every time he opens his mouth. He and Paige have incredible chemistry. They burn up the pages together, but this is only the beginning of their story. There is more coming, and I am very excited about it!

The best crossover between two sweetest series, and not just because of all the food you can find, be it at the bakery in Appleby or at Ellie’s in the Bayou. Paige and Mitch are two of the secondary characters you always feel like they have more to bring to the story than what you see in the books of the series, and they are just PERFECT for each other! They have so much in common coming from big boisterous families and I cannot wait to see how Ellie is gonna handle all of Paige’s alternative views!

It's a sexy, hilarious, & touching romance.
It grabbed me from the very first page.
I truly enjoyed reading Paige & Mitch's
story. I loved catching up with our old
friends from the Bayou.
Mitch, is in Iowa, to spend time with
Paige. 6 months ago, they said their
were not looking for a commitment.
Surprisingly, now they can't stop
thinking about each other.
Can't wait to read Four Weddings
& a Swamp Boat Tour!
Great characters & small town charm,
make it the perfect read!!

We first met Mitch in the Boys of the Bayou series so when he comes to Appleby to help Josh and Tori he meets Paige and has a one night stand. Neither one can stop thinking about each other and start texting. Now he’s coming back for a visit and things get serious, he wants to take her back to Louisiana with him. But Paige has commitment phobia, or doesn’t she? Can’t wait to read the rest of their story in Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour.

No one does small town rom-com's like Erin Nicholas. Even in short novella form, they are perfect!

Mixing two of her series together.....even better!

Paige gets another short visit from Mitch Landry and she intends to enjoy every minute of it. But her meddling, nosy family get the better of her and she needs to get away. Mitch offers her a solution, but is there more to it for both of them?

I can't wait to find out in the next Boys of the Bayou book!

All I can say is hot hot hot from the very first page. Our hot sexy Bayou guy Mitch and our sizzling yoga instructor Paige from Iowa who happens to collect cats have this steamy one night affair six months ago. Even though they are both against commitment they find themselves wildly attracted to each other and now seeing each other again things are even hotter and they are both thinking of more. Could they be falling in love? You are so going to love ‘Oh Fudge’ .

I love and am a massive fan of both of the Boys of the Bayou and Hotcakes series by Erin Nicholas. And the fact that she's brought both of these worlds together in this cross over novella is genius. I enjoyed it so much! This was such a humorous and sweet, and lighthearted and steamy read.

I very much enjoyed this fabulous prequel to Paige and Mitch's HEA. I cannot wait to see how these two will continue with their relationship down in the bayou in Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour.

I have to laugh. Cursing wasn’t allowed in our house so “Oh Fudge” was my go to phrase. I really enjoyed the mix of humor & romance within this story. This story was a crossover between two of Ms. Nicholas’s wonderful series. I liked the sass & wit of the conversations & the connection they were both trying to fight.

Man oh man this one is as hot as the spicy fudge. Paige and Mitch burn up the pages and leave you wanting more and more. I can not wait to see Mitch convince Paige she’s the happily ever after kind.

This little novella is actually book five in the Hot Cakes series, but I grabbed it as I have been pushing through Erin Nicholas's other series, Boys of the Bayou. It's a crossover book probably meant to drag fans of one of the series into the world of the other one. All of these books are listed as standalones, so you don't have to read all of the previous books of either series to enjoy this one. That is true. I had NO IDEA who any of the people running in the orbit of Paige's small Iowa town were. I knew the people referenced to by Mitch because I had read all of the Boys of the Bayou books, though. It didn't harm my reading experience that I didn't know all of the backstories, but I do feel like it might have been enhanced quite a bit if I did know it. I'm not sure that Erin Nicholas accomplished the task of making me want to grab any of the other Hot Cakes books, but maybe she got people interested in checking out the Boys of the Bayou.

As for this story ... well, here's what happens. Two people from two totally different worlds are REALLY attracted to each other. Neither are interested in anything serious,
so it seems like the perfect match. They hang out A LOT and explore that chemistry A LOT. And that's it. That's the story. As far as a book goes, it's pretty weak. As far as a setup to the next book in the Boys in the Bayou series, we shall see. I did like Mitch a bunch, and Paige seemed lovely as well. The next book will tell whether this book was worth my time for the setup or not. The narration was great. Lili Valente does a great job managing Mitch's Cajun drawl along with Paige's Iowa non-drawl. I'll give the audio version three weak stars. Not a lot here, but it was nice enough.

Oh, Fudge was oh so great! I am totally in love with Mitch. Bayou boy who's not looking for a commitment finds himself wanting a commitment with a commitment phobic Iowa girl? It was so much fun seeing the tables turned in this fun and sexy romance. This merging of two of Erin Nicholas' series, Boys of the Bayou and The Hot Cakes series is just what I needed but never knew it until now. Of course this is just a prequel to Paige and Mitch's HEA. I can't wait to see how these two will continue with their relationship down in the bayou in Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour.

*I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book*
