Always is the latest novel by Amazon best seller, Lucy Onions, a unique thriller that weaves a delightfully tangled web of lies, love and dangerous obsessions.
If you hadn't already guessed, I'm Lucy (and yes, that really is my surname!). I live in a West Midlands town called Walsall with my husband, my 5 (going on 15) year old daughter, our Staffy Bull Terrier and one hell of a grumpy rabbit who lives in the hutch in the garden.
I've always loved to write, conjuring up stories as a young kid. Still conjuring now. My Sister (aka my 'best friend in the universe') and I were read to regularly, which is no doubt where our love of books, stories and writing them, came from. I'm happy to say that this trait has passed down to our daughter and she can spin a tale or two, that's for sure.
Almost 10 years ago, I joined mibba.com and started to test the water with the stories that would crop up in my head at stupid hours of the night/morning (they still do!) and then develop into a bigger monster. I started to gain a great following and got some very positive feedback from everything I posted on there. When Molly was born (March 2010), and I gave up full time work to be a full time Mum, I thought it was as good a time as any to have a go at self-publishing and that, as they say, is history.
My first book, 'And if the Sun Comes Up' was more a novella, so I released it as a kindle edition only. However, my second foray into self publishing, 'Good for Nothing' is available as paperback and kindle edition, as is my most recent offering, 'Shout the Call'.
With each book, my writing and confidence has improved and I'm starting to think I'm getting a bit at good at this 'being an author' malarkey. I hope that, if you do get to read 'Good for Nothing' and/or 'Shout the Call', you'll think the same and if you do (even if you don't), please support me by writing a review.
As well as being a full time Mum and Author, I'm a photographer, a live music reviewer and a lead singer in a 12-13 piece Northern Soul & Tamla Motown party band. I haven't added anything else to that list....... yet!
This book didn’t disappoint. It’s been a while since I finished a book in 2 days! Really enjoyed this story. I found it fast paced and flowed brilliantly. I enjoyed the concept of it being told by two characters and I think that added to it. It was a real page turner and as the time it took me to finish it suggests, I found it ‘un put downable’, I would recommend this book. Ella
A good pacy book.I love the way each character is intertwined in separate chapters. The authors skill is growing in each book and I look forward to the next one.
This is a quick, pacy thriller that really kept me turning the pages and I read it all in a couple of days. Darker and more grown up than the author's previous work. Short chapters keep the action moving and a dual viewpoint creates a fuller picture whilst still maintaining intrigue and suspense. I felt it slowed down a bit in the third quarter of the book with some repetition but picks back up again for an action packed finale that was certainly worth sticking it out.
I have had the absolute pleasure and joy of knowing and working with Lucy for many years. Despite being firmly middle aged I have read and enjoyed all of her work even if I am not the perfect target audience for her YA market, Always is a very different kettle of fish.
It's a step away from YA and a very big change if pace and content. A tale of love and obsession told from two different points of view. There is a lot of repetition as we see the same events happen twice but the differences are subtle and varied enough that you never lose interest.
This is a big step up for Onions and I can't wait to see what she does next
I know, I know. This is my own book, but I'm really very proud of it and I don't care who knows it. If you love a good thriller, mixed with a bit of romance, lies and obsession, you'll love it. I hope.
