The Boris Chronicles #1-4

The Boris Chronicles

Rate this book

The Russian Mercenary known as Boris has always been a conundrum for governments the world over. His visage never changes, his capabilities never understood.

You'll love saving money on The Boris Chronicles boxed set because it includes the entire series at a great price.

The Russian government gets word he has been killed on a mercenary mission in America, allowing agents to come in and attack the villages Boris has been protecting. Using a fanatical military sub-group in the Russian military, the atrocities start.

The only problem? Boris isn't dead, and now he has help.

Boris won't allow his people to go unprotected, and now the Queen Bitch herself has accepted his oath of fealty.

Russia doesn't have a clue what they have started when this Bear comes back from the Dead.

***

**Please note, there is flagrantly foul language in these novels. The main character does not have a problem with cussing, just uninspired cussing.

THE BORIS CHRONICLES BOXED SET INCLUDES:

Evacuation - The Boris Chronicles 01
Revolution - The Boris Chronicles 02
Revelation - The Boris Chronicles 03
Restitution - The Boris Chronicles 04

I was born on Remembrance day, I was early. My mother wanted me to be born at 11, but the doctors delivered me at 9:30. I’m contrary like that. My childhood was shaped by a bout of meningitis, that was diagnosed by my grandmother over the phone. She was one of her generation's few female doctors. The effects of which, including loss of fine motor control, would shape the rest of my life. Proving you can still be a writer with bad handwriting, but not bad enough for me to follow in her footsteps and become a doctor.

I may not be a surgeon now, but I still like sharp things. Swords are my thing, and I studied Iaijutsu, and a plethora of other martial arts, with and without blades. Not in the serial killer kind of way, but more of a curious enthusiast. Also the blunted weapons, gotta have a bit of a thump. Tie that in with 15 years of medieval reenactment (and no I don’t mean ren-fair) and studying history and psychology at uni. I’ve got a lot of knowledge built around weaponry, tactics and military history.

I spent some time in cadets, and a lot more around soldiers and ex-soldiers. I learnt how to shoot, gun safety, camping, how to march, how to navigate with a map and compass (forget that GPS stuff) and other basic military skills, like how to make a verse in a marching tune about each individual in the unit. Hopefully some of that comes across in the realism I put into the more military oriented books.

I’m always working on several fictional worlds simultaneously, including a collaboration with Michael Anderle. Some of my works have been published, maybe more by the time you’re reading this, while hundreds more pages are lying orphaned in my incomplete folders. So, I’m generally working on three books (at least) at any one time. One day they’ll all be out there for you to read. In the meantime I’m living in a regional town in Australia, with a day's drive to the nearest capital city.

Right now I live at home with my partner of eight years, and between novels I’m a full time carer. I’m completing my bachelors degree with a major is philosophy, and right now I’m applying that learning to the deep question of whether a self-published author can survive on more than cat food. This is a terribly important question, as I have two beagles to feed. I am wary of bumps in the house due to my partner’s severe epilepsy. The nurse beagles assist me in keeping an ear out enthusiastically… oh so enthusiastically… in this.

Book 1: Evacuation is Boris’ story. The readers are introduced to Russia where he guards & leads his people due to a long ago promise. The story was entertaining but there were a few areas that could use a bit more detail. Looking forward to book 2.

Book 2: Retaliation finds Boris and gang engaged in several military battles. A new ability is discovered and used. I like Janna's strong female personality. He story was entertaining and interesting.

Book 3: Plenty of discoveries and action await listeners in this edition. A new AI has the team on edge, but things aren't as they seem. The characters are interesting and the storyline is entertaining.

Book 4: Fast paced fighting 50 years post WWDE. Boris and Jeanna have several children and the youngest is setting out to get his own combat experience. Good story.

The narrator did a great job!

Muddled

This is a book in the Kurtherian Universe. I'm not enamored of the Kutherian Universe. We fight vampires, werewolves, werebears, and other impossible and mythical creatures. That's all the book is about: battles between creatures. With regard to the battles, we spend an inordinate and boring time setting up the logistics, strategy and tactics of the combat. My problem with this is that the battle is totally fictional with no tie to reality. You already know who's going to win in a battle between between weres, and the tactics and logistics are BS because the battle will be won, not because of any brilliant planning, but because our side has the better super power. The book starts in the middle with a lot of things having happened that get referred to but not explained. The drawn out explanations get very confusing to the point that Boris's name is stated when it seems the name should be Olaf. I'm negative on this book.

Love it!

I admit it: I haven’t exactly read everything in the KGU in order. I’m up to date in the main storyline, bu have been middling through the off-shoot series. This one is WAY back in the timeline for me. And it was great. I loved the trip back to a “simpler” time. Boris was always an interesting character, and I really enjoyed learning more about him, as well as learning about some characters that show up in later books (and different Ages!, semi-spoiler alert!) Keep up the great work!

Boxed set that gets better

It takes a while, but in the end proves to a worthwhile storyline
I enjoyed books 1 & 2 the most as individual stories but books 3 & 4 make the whole series a more complete story, if that makes sense
It's basically a story of how 1 man tries to do the right thing for all the people that rely and depend on him. If you don't know the back story then some of the story makes little sense, but it is still an enjoyable read

They were okay. In the last couple, I skipped a lot of the pages, actually. Too many words that ultimately didn't interest me or do anything for the story, for me. Maybe I'm just used to Michael Anderle's minimalist style at this point. Glad to have some more background for the Kurtherian universe and series, but not the best books for me.

Good read that helped filled in missing info

I've always enjoyed TKU and all the characters that are added to it. The same goes for Boris. This was rated at about a 4.5 star only as I would have loved to see it move more into future with the WWDE or else it would have been a solid 5.

Very good

If you like shifter, military and apocalyptic books this is a really good set. I hope there’s more stories about Boris and his family. I know there’s more time before Bethany Ann gets back. I’m new to Paul’s writing and I like his style of writing. I’m looking forward to reading more of his books.
Thanks again for your imagination

Good characters, good stories - poor execution. Frequent grammar issues, spelling issues - the editing and proofreading is below expectations from anything else I've read from the publisher. Spelling of established character and place names changes from chapter to chapter and sometimes even from sentence to sentence.

Good

I liked the book. The only problems that bothered me were in the last book the author would be taking about Olath, but slip and fall him Boris. Happened a few times and I had to reread to make sure I knew what was going on.

I did not bing read them.

I bought this set so I could read the KU series without interruption. These are excellent books. Boris and company are a spin off that satisfies. Real problems solved with planning, emotion and some "Oh Shit" solutions. Just the way I like my hero's.

Quite interesting read

Middleton just keeps getting better and better as an author. A very intriguing storyline that shows how Boris captivated the love of his life and went on to protect her and his town. Can’t wait to read more from Middleton.

Sadly disappointing

The first book of the series started out acceptable but by the fourth book it was just play by play of a war, 90% detail intense battle plans impossible to get through.

Very very good

I found out about this series when I discovered the Kutherian Gambit Universe timeline. This series comes after book #11 Sued For Peace. If you haven't read the Kutherian Gambit series, I highly recommend the entire series. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Lilith

Good to get an explanation of where Lilith came from. A little heavy on the military details for my taste . There were some errors with names that confused and threw me off a few times.

I listened to the audiobook and liked the characters and the stories, but there were a couple of the Russian names that were not pronounced correctly. That drove me nuts.
I really want to know what happens next to Boris’ people

Read up to Redemption, so far. I have been reading the series in order, but it is clear that Boris hasn't finished telling his life story from what I can gather.

Good series

I enjoyed the entire series. There were times that the books were a tad disjointed but over all they are worth the read..

Death Becomes Herm

I like all of these starting with Death Becomes Her! I like the supernatural theme but not the really bloody vampire stuff.
