26 yr old writer and mom who's here to add a flare to your mundane romance novels. We all know love isn't easy, so why does every book we come across describe it as such? Love is a journey, one with many elements including drug addiction, mental illness, and physical disabilities.....or fantasy. I have come to notice that many tend to write as if every woman of color is from the hood want to read about the hood life or the poor sister finds a white man for her happy ever after without dealing with her issues that got her in the problems in the first place. ...and then to drag it out with a part two...hell to the no.
DNF @12%. This book is horrid! As soon as the supposed hero slapped and called the heroine the B word multiple times, I knew I couldn't read anymore. Ratchet is the least strongest term to use to describe this book.
"In Too Deep" was an extremely dark read that was not for the faint at heart! Loaded w/ triggers of a very evil Columbian crime boss named Agostino Carmine and a spitfire heroine, Bobbie Smith who loved the wrong man (Freddie) who sold drugs! Sadly Bobbie ended up being used as collateral damage after Freddie was robbed and his drugs stolen once again! For a month, poor Bobbie aka Kitten was abused mentally and physically by Agostino until...betrayal, death, etc.
'El guardian de mi hermano' meaning 'my brother's keeper."
So let's just say that "In Too Deep" was a 3-3.5 star read for me that ended in the darndest cliffhanger!
I don't understand these modern-day authors everything has to have a ******* cliffhanger. What is so deep about these stories that you can't finish in one go?. The problem with cliffhangers is that some authors take so long to get to the next part that you completely forget about the first part and that's very frustrating for the reader.
NEVER EVER is it ok to right about rape and abuse then make it an ok thing like I will grow to love the hero of this book. Now with that being said I was intrigued enough to continue reading after the initial rapes and killings. But I cannot stand how you choose to let this leading lady fall in love with this man after being beat, raped and threatened. I dont care for his circumstances. I understand you were going for something different but I cannot get with it enough to read part 2. Good luck going forward!
This isn't a good story at all because the nonhero isn't a good man in any sense of the word. The heroine is just so damn pathetic and stupid. She was literally thrown from the frying pan and into the fire thanks to her punk boyfriend and her stupidity. This is like reading a how not to become a willing victim in blackenstan because it just leads to more stupidity on your part. Basically this dumb woman was dating a thug who didn't give two shits about her and to prove it she was used as a bargaining chip between he and the Columbian drug Lord that wanted her. The sad part is that the drug Lord wasn't treating her any better. He was beating the crap out of her or strangling her to control her. So if you're into relationships like this then you are in luck. I'm not into dysfunctional relationships like this so that's why I can only give this two stars. Now regarding the need of a proofreader, OMGOSH. The spelling errors are too numerous to name. There is one that made me laugh because instead of the trusted maid kissing the couple on the cheek, the author has them being kissed on the teeth. So you will find yourself filling in the correct word or removing words that shouldn't be there at all. Plus how does one bald their mouth or lips? Because she used this action several times to describe the act of Bobbie (the heroine), swallowing or sucking in her lips. I can't enjoy a story when the person telling the story really sucks at articulating the story. Plus I also hate cliffhangers, so I won't bother reading it because I wouldn't want any heroine to end up with a guy who likes to beat women and this definitely includes beating and choking the heroine. There was just too much blackistan behavior being mistaken as love. Dysfunction isn't love, nor should it be romanticized by any women (especially black women).
I liked this book but there are a few things that did not sit well with me. I was confused by the hero. his mother was abused by his father. he was angry with his mother for being weak and putting up with abuse so he killed her. so he doesn't like weak women who stay with abusive men. but yet he kidnaps and abuses the heroine. when she shows him shes not weak, will speak up for herself and sometimes fight back, he threatens to kill her. then he wants her sexually, she doesn't want it begs him not to do this. that's rape. and i don't understand why she wouldn't call it that just because it felt good to her. it was still an unwanted sexual act. overtime she starts to accept it and appears she is developing feeling for him based on his sad childhood. I was getting angry with that because now she is showing me she is weak. If there is a part two i hope she doesn't get back with him. because the fact is that he is not a good man, not an alpha. he is a cheater, wife beater, and rapist.
Ok why wouldn't the author tell us this book was two parts, told us about triggers that really wasn't nothing but the heroine did not act as if something was taken from her. I really enjoyed it up until the end that's why I gave it two stars I despise two part books especially when part two isn't ready! Please note that you should just wait until the next part is out before reading this I don't know why it's so hard nowadays for an author to just write a full book!!!!
First off, the female in the story was too weak minded. Who still holds a torch for someone that bargained you off to the devil!? Also, for a man that wanted someone so bad why did he beat her. The story didn’t really make sense and on top of it the sentences didn’t flow well at times and the editing wasn’t good. I finished the book because I needed to see how it ended and of course! A cliffhanger.
Jesus take the wheel and drive fast. The book is an forced/abusive / kidnapped relationship and the editing my goodness. Bobbie is living with a drugdealer, the drugdealer sells her to another drug dealer then he kills her boyfriend and take her hostage, rape and impregnate her and forcibly marry her, threatens to kill her once she gives birth and cliffhanger. A mess
Both characters were extremely unlikable and the abuse though the entire book was hard to read. i kept waiting for the characters to go through some growth and become likable but it never happened.
This was an enthralling mafia story, great storyline with some flaws: poor editing, typographical errors, and dialogue which at times didn’t feel true to character. For instance, the (anti)hero came across more black urban than Colombian or Italian from his diction. The heroine in this book acted in unbelievably poor judgment by continually provoking the hero, displaying foolish bravado when all she needed to do was bide her time, follow her plan. This, however, does not condone the hero’s behavior. The hero was unapologetically abusive, and the juxtaposed physical abuse coupled with affection was strange, read awkwardly, making the reader feel disquieted with the hero rather than privately routing for him as his feelings evolved.
Overall, though, I really liked the plot line. The hero is definitely alpha, possessive, and the boss. The heroine was not a pushover. The love scenes were hot, and a wonderfully dub con. This book may not be for everyone. It is a dark tale, ending in a cliffhanger (which the author should warn about). Looking for redemption in the next part, for the heroine, and a little groveling (maybe?) for this hero.
This story was good from the beginning, Bobby was caught up in a crazy mess, twice one worse than the other. This second man is Crazyyyyyyyy, with a Capital C okkkk, kitten is what he calls her lol God bless the lady she concerned a friend, Ana is a witch and she needed to get dropped kicked in the throat, lol talking reckless to Bobby. This saying you weep what you sow is on point in this book, i can’t wait to read part two. Thanks for a great read it held my attention completely.
This book had mouth on the floor! WOW! WOW! I’m like did he just….what just happened? Like I’m lost for words. I finished this book in one day. That’s how good it is. You’re not going to stop reading once you start it. Very well written with action, very steamy dark romance, a lot omg moments, and it will definitely have you wanted more. I’m so glad this was recommended to me as a good read. 👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾👍🏾🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Aright now it’s time for book two. 🤗
The title tells a tale all by itself! Having a drug lord obsessing over you should scare the daylights out of you. Bennett makes you question how well you know anyone, and can you really trust who you think you can. How long do we have to wait to see what happens to Bobbie?
I can't with this one, she's kidnapped, beaten and raped and somehow settling in with the situation. I had to throw in the towel when she lost the baby and I gave up hope that she wouldn't be falling for him or someone else would step up and take him out. I'm guessing she's going to fall for the crazy though so I'm done. 11/8/2019 13:19
The writing wasn’t too bad. I was honestly asking myself, where is the romance? The woman was raped beat and abused repeatedly by a sociopath who claimed to have an issue with his mother who was in the same situation he was putting the woman through. I genuinely wonder what the author thought readers would get from this book.
This book needs a lot of work. From page one, I noticed it lacked editing. The relationship wasn’t believable. Agostino’s voice seemed to switch up so it didn’t feel authentic to his character. There was too much violence against the heroine to the point that the hero could never redeem himself in my eyes. I don’t think I will read the next book in the series
This is so cruel and dark, but the underlying feelings and emotions are felt throughout the book. The suspense, ruthlessness, and drama left me hooked and waiting with bated breath waiting for the next book!!! Loved authors development of the characters and the real state of men and women in these situations.
Sometime I was completely lost between the grammar, sentences that went nowhere or didn't make sense. The plot was fine but was written in an unrealistic way. (To many gaps)
How can you enjoy a book when a women is constantly beaten? Terrible story lines and never ending abuse. Poorly written and makes the woman looks weak and stupid. The grammar was horrible at times. And lastly how can one enjoy a book where the woman is raped repeatedly? Not for me.
Agostino is dark, dangerous and sadistic. Bonnie is a victim, fighting back. I almost stopped reading he was so cruel, but I want to know what happens. Huh! This ended in a cliffhanger.
This is my first time reading something from this Author. I enjoyed the storyline very much, and loved the main two characters.I can't wait to see what happens next.
This book can’t be taken/reviewed singly, so this is a review of both books “In too Deep” and “In too Deep2”.
I can get over the sloppy grammar and typos. I can get with the dubious consent and Stockholm syndrome. The sex scenes are fire 🔥. What I cannot get with is Agostino’s lack of any kind of character arc or development. Bobbie developed (over the two book series), primarily through her becoming pregnant. She went from Freddie’s girlfriend to captive to forced wife to survivor. Agostino did not change one lick (maybe his hairstyle?). And that’s my grievance. If he didn’t change one lick, then why should he get a HEA with Bobbie? He was still the rage-filled abuser. So where was the therapy (even people in Colombia have therapists- counsellors, psychologists, even Catholic priests are trained in counselling)? Maybe mental health was not on the radar when this book was written, but geez! The book is basically saying that once we know he was abused, and once he decided NOT to be like his father, then he was cured. Or that the baby magically cured him? What about learning other appropriate outlets for the anger?
Another glaring inconsistency is Bobbie’s refusal throughout the book to learn spanish. I mean, come on! You live in Miami! No spanish? Seriously? But ok, whatevs, then you get kidnapped and living for months with a violent, unstable man who is constantly whispering things in Spanish? And you still refuse to learn the language? If it were me, I would be downloading that Spanish like Neo in the Matrix from Giorgia. That’s survival 101. I understand this may have been a plot device, to stretch time, by not having her understand what Agostino was saying but it was the least believable part of the book.
DNF 30% I tried getting past the writing and editing. But I just can't. And I am giving it 1* eventho I didn't finish it because I can't imagine that it suddenly gets better. It reads so bad, clunky and way too many adjectives and overall details. "Grabbing the remote, she cut the TV on Turner Classic Movies. 'A Streetcar named Desire' starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh was on". How is this important? Does it have any impact on the plot which movie she watched and who starred in it? I only got to 30% but the level of detail kept going.
And the main char is too stupid for my taste. She doesn't come across as innocent, she is just stupid.
I despise men who abusing women… then why do I feel a little bit sorry for Agostino !? Bobbie was taken by her boyfriend’s handler, slapped by his bodyguard right in front of said handler, slapped by the handler aka Agostino himself repeatedly and when arrived at his mansion , placed in stinky, infested dark room for 3 days without food, water or contact… and the abuse didn’t stop there. Wow… not surprising for latino man. But come on…! There is more, but No Spoilers…
Anyway, I am glad so glad she got away, I am hoping she finally gets bigger Ba*ls .
