This book is a little outdated based on exam material however is the best resource for fundamentals google cloud data and ai concepts and services. Well explained and detailed with examples. The review questions are exam like so I will still recommend this material for exam prep.
1st attempt: found a better resource and this was sooooo dry plus the app you have to read this ebook in sucks
2nd attempt: SO much easier to read and highlight this when it is a physical copy. Shoutout to my coworker who told me I could get the physical copy expensed. This book is quite informative and the physical copy makes a huge difference when flipping back and forth between topics and practice questions.
This book helped me pass my exam. There are so many good practice questions that you can access when you register your book online. I have purchased another book from this author that covers machine learning to study for that exam too.
Good but outdated. I used this book as one of my tools to pass the certification and it was great, but unfortunately Google changed the scope of the exam so the book is outdated. Important technologies like Dataplex are missing and most of the technical limitations changed, for example Spanner nodes are now up to 4TB instead of 2, that was at the time of the book being written. I did use the test questions at the end of the chapters to find my knowledge gasps and those were great :) I hope they update it soon because it’s a great book
My employer is moving to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). I run a data science department and most of my experience has been on workstations and bare metal servers. This book gave me an excellent overview of the different services offered by GCP. I know the highlights of each major data-related service, which gives me the confidence to explore them in depth on my own.
Great book for preparing for the Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer Exam.
I don't believe this book will age well. :) By the time of writing it's already a bit obsolete on the latest topics like: Vertex AI, Big Query ML or serverless Spark
Now I understand why certificated "experts" cannot pass my live-coding interviews and cannot solve the simplest Data Engineering problems, like, Incremental Data Loading, Business Deduplication, etc.
The book is totally theoretical and didactic. It doesn't contain anything you can't learn from the official GCP Documentation.
At the same time, the GCP documentation contains code snippets and full labs / workshops, while the book doesn't contain anything aside from superficial theory.
