ML Hamilton taught high school English and journalism in Central California for 32 years.

Teaching students to appreciate literature made her career rewarding; however, she always dreamed of publishing her own novel.

In 2010, the dream came true. Her first novel, Emerald, was published by Wild Wolf Publishing. The sequel to Emerald, The Heirs of Eldon, followed the next year.

In addition to teaching and writing, she has three sons, two daughters-in-law, two dogs, and three amazing grandbabies.

Understand

These books are very warming and special, but they have such a strong and powerful message. M L Hamilton has used her miraculous storytelling to bring forth subjects people don’t always want to face. I am so blessed to have read these books and look forward to the rest of the “year”. Hopefully everyone will take something from them.

Taught me!

Each of the characters had a story to tell. Each was separated from the other. They had obstacles to overcome, and they were not alone doing so.

This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:

"April", "May" and "June" - the Spring tales in the "Year of Discovery" series - continue with the stories of unusual women who have to deal with issues life throws at so many of us there...

Rosie, a middle-aged mother of Latin origins, decides to go back to school to get a degree - and has to handle both studying and coping with problems in her family, not really certain of their support for her pursuing her dreams... Until one fateful day that changes everything...

Lizzie, a 19-year-old student, lives through a traumatic experience and has to not only get over her denial (with a little help from a psychologist) but also finally get courage to be open with her own mother... Will she be able to take action to prevent whatever happened to her happen to others?

Mel has always hidden her sexual orientation from her grandparents, but now they know the truth - and they reject her. And her girlfriend leaves her at the worst possible moment. Will Mel finally follow her own advice, accept herself and take on whatever life brings her at face value or will she shy away again?

All three stories are inspirational, emotional, and touch on serious matters with delicacy and tact. They are also quite fast-paced, which on the one hand is good as it makes them more intriguing, but on the other it gives the books a kind of fairy-tale quality: everything comes to a happy ending a little too fast and too smoothly... But don't get me wrong: there are more than a few heartbreaking scenes before we come to the satisfactory solution. It simply feels like everything solves itself in too short a span of time. But as it serves the stories well, it doesn't bother me so much...

Generally, if you look for a set of stories that will allow you to feel a whole set of emotions while touching on real problems of the modern world and the place of women in it - grab the set. And don't foget to go back to set one, too; the winter stories are as good, if not better...

Narration by Ms Hazen is as always very good, although this time I don't like some of the voices she's given particular characters. But as an interpreter and an actor she's perfect at conveying emotions, which in stories like these is priceless.

Volume Two of the box sets for the charming series THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY by ML HAMILTON brings us rightfully APRIL, MAY, and JUNE.
The development of this series is so lovely, so delicate. It sounds almost corny to say, but like a flower blooming, petal by petal.
There is no better way to experience that maturation of story than in these box sets. The option to listen to these novellas one after another, in a binge-like, episodic fashion is such a great way to absorb the challenge and change that each one of these characters face within such remarkably different lives. Similar challenges, in such different circumstances.
At the end of the day, the story, the series, it comes down to the fight we all have - in the face of uncanny odds and obstacles, to be true to thine own self.
Rosie, professional woman, wife, and mother of two, is our APRIL heroine.
Lizzie, in MAY, faces the effects of a devastating social encounter and the expectations of her mother, the illness of her sister.
JUNE introduces us to Melanie, Mel to her friends, as she struggles with the very definition of 'self' and self-discovery.
With or without companions, dreams both large and small, these are women fighting to understand what that word means - 'woman' - to them. The resonance of this series widens and deepens and spirals farther away only to return to the center again. Are we brave enough to discover our 'Self'?

An impressive box set from The Year of Discovery series... this is books 4-6 which gives of the stories of Rosie, Lizzie, and Mel.

Rosie has always put her family first and she’s happy, but sometimes you need more. Her dream has always been to go back to school and get a college education, but is that even possible with all of her responsibilities?

Lizzie’s story is definitely relevant to situations that are unfortunately becoming all to familiar these days. She is a strong woman and I was thrilled with how this story was presented.

Mel’s Story is truly inspirational. Being shunned by her grandparents for choosing to be herself was difficult to deal with. Coupling that with being dumped by her girlfriend of two years made it almost unbearable. I was inspired by the journey Mel undertook, and the twist at the end brought me to tears.

I highly recommend this fantastic series written by M. L. Hamilton and narrated by Kelley Hazen!

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it inspiring. I don't listen to much fiction, instead I prefer more action and suspense, with is now happening as the series grows. Everything starts with a death of a daughter, sister, and friend, when she leaves a personal message to every family member to be read after her death. In book 4, 5 and 6, her effect on her younger sister snow balls and the effecting three more women trying to take control of their own lives. Every type of emotion is on display as the stories of three very different women are told. Each book is inspiring and uplifting, as each women struggles to be what they want to be. This combination of author and narrator never fails to draw you into their world. Very much worth listening too.
