World War III rages. What can she do to protect the innocent?
Ellie Noor’s hope hangs by a thread. Tortured to within an inch of her life by sadistic terrorists, she’s horrified to learn her husband’s efforts to free her cost a half-a-million lives. But grief must wait as Ellie is swept up in an interdimensional attempt to stop all-out nuclear destruction.
Shocked to discover the key to saving the universe lies inside her, she becomes a potent instrument to respawn Earth’s lost protector. But with the world’s atomic arsenals locked and loaded, and sinister beings on the attack, she fears only an unfathomable miracle can halt humanity’s extinction.
Can Ellie unleash her hidden power and prevent her planet’s annihilation?
The Resonance is the third book in the riveting The Trusted Thriller Series. If you like fast-moving action, sci-fi suspense, and powerful players at war, then you’ll love this provocative, mind blowing novel.
The third in a series, a trilogy of books that has spawned a promised fourth and beyond. Like a restless tide, The Resonance keeps coming. Poor readers like me build castles in the air and sandcastles on the beach to frame our understanding and pigeonhole this book.
We struggle to label the novel and give structure to our daydreams only for the waves to overrun our constructs and leave no evidence of rational thought.
Furthermore, in reading this third instalment you realise the author although manic and with a writer’s ADHD is fully conversant with her plotting as the story wonderfully comes together.
As the final book in a trilogy it does bring everything into harmony and in terms of conventional fiction you would feel able to take a breath here and see things clearly for the first time. Yet in her afterword the author plays us again with the big tease. Not everything is perhaps what it seems, and enlightenment will be bent in her upcoming novel The Refracted.
But returning to The Resonance. It is a book you should read and be pleased with that effort. It never gives up, it is like jumping onboard with The Keystone Cops or entering The Wacky Races. Reality is set aside but reason remains, and it will thrill, entertain and set your mind and heart racing.
I understand now, only too well it is a love story of epic proportions. Sam and Ellie have not so much gone on a journey but the worse, role playing, Relate marriage counselling sessions imaginable. Yet through it all their love though tested holds true. Not so much a journey as an acid trip. For despite the highs and lows, theirs it seems, is an enduring love.
It is also a novel about international global terrorism beyond anything seen or imagined.
It is a spy thriller, Sam is a spook and his wife Ellie had no knowledge of this just a few days, two books ago in this series. Trouble is politics is corrupt and here some politicians seem keen to side with the terrorists for the promise of wealth and power.
If this wasn’t enough we’re introduced to an ancient set of guardians; trustees of the universe caring for planets like the earth. Their yin and yang are a bit like Star Wars in terms of light and dark. But in The Resonance the light is magnified by crystals and the dark side seems to not have been playing fair. Meddling in the affairs of the earth to promote evil. For once any planet tips too far to the dark side, that is a tipping point where the evil throws goodness out of kilter. If this point is reached these benevolent elders turn into less open-minded parents and literally are obliged by customs and law to destroy the planet.
This tension in our story is that the planet embracing the dark side is earth. Not that it is all the fault of humanity there has been alien interference, encouragement and technology which has enabled evil to rapidly escalate out of control. Leaving the guardians, no choice but to hit the kill switch.
Meanwhile with terrorists accessing and using weapons of mass destruction, the earth, through a deluded messianic President is less than an hour away from its own planetary Armageddon.
I have a great warmth and trust for this author. With so many plot lines in play and characters to fit into the story it can appear confusing at times. But the writing is always engaging and miraculously like a circus act of spinning plates the integrity is kept. I love the many facets that drift in and out of focus and deliver the main message and themes of this novel. Relationships, the choices we make, how words are important, trust and loyalty, faithfulness. There is a surfeit of superficial following but the bond that stands strong is the one between Ellie and Sam and although that relationship is tested to beyond breaking it is the core element here in terms of understanding, cooperation and undying love. All other relationships do not measure up.
Do find time to read this talented author’s work, especially these three supercharged books about Sam & Ellie and their own twist on saving the World!
Wow, what a cracking read this was, yet again from this talented author and storyteller. Again, it's a multi-genre novel, I'm not one for sci-fi books but this one is soooo different.
It's fast-paced and will suck the breath out of you at every opportunity. The first two books were brilliant but this one gripped me and refused to let go. I actually read it over two days, no mean feat at the moment with my full on life getting in the way of any relaxation time.
We have terrorists and aliens in equal measure. Al Nadir and its two ghastly chiefs take centre stage with their brutal antics. World domination, as always with these types of fiends, is their ambition. And it doesn't matter who stands in their way to achieve it.
Ellie and Sam have their different fraught roles to play in this page-turning thriller. My heart was in my mouth during Ellie's early scenes when she... nope, not going there, you'll have to grab the book if you want out find out what harrowing incidences lie ahead of the characters.
The ending blew me away, had me rooting for the main characters. Can't wait to read more in this fabulous series.
This is yet another book that I received from the author in return for an honest review.
This story is a continuation of the two previous stories, The Trusted and The Dominant, answering a lot of the questions that I had when I finished The Dominant. I found that among the questions that I had were answered included the fact that in the buildup of the story that one character experiences death and re-birth. This third part also examines the loyalty and inter-relationship exhibited between the main characters on the three sides of the conflict - the Allied Forces (for want of a better term - consisting of the United States and Great Britain), Al Nadir (the terrorist groups) and the Kudamaz (the immortals).
There is an interesting development of the power relationship between Aswa-da and the President of the United States, as the intestinal fortitude (or lack thereof) of Treeborne is realized as the balance of power between the light and the dark side is shifted towards the darkness as Al Nadir eliminates the Island of Malta (along with 578,119 souls). Another development in the power shift is after the intervention of the Protector, the shift continues towards darkness based upon the actions of Sam (the James Bond of the story).
Another interesting development in the story is the demonstration of how the ego of some of the characters (Maide, Godley, and Lydell) controls not only their actions but their supposed loyalties.
This story arc seems to end (or at least answers a lot of questions that I had previously) but it appears that there is another story arc to come. That said, I really enjoyed the way that this author has developed her characters and how the first (maybe of many more to come) story arc is brought to a close. As mentioned previously, this novel answers a lot of the questions that I had and as such, I believe that this story deserves a solid four and a half stars (which on Goodreads, rounds up to five stars).
As with all reviews, this is just my five cents worth.
There is so much I want to tell you about this book. But in the interests of not giving spoilers away, I have to be a little cautious in what I reveal. If you’ve read the first two parts, you’ll know what to expect. I can confirm, The Resonance is more of the same, on steroids. If you haven’t read the preceding parts, the solution is obvious.
GO AND GET THE TRUSTED IMMEDIATELY.
What I can say is this. In The Resonance, Sam and Ellie Noor join forces to continue the battle against the international terror group that would take over the world. The actions of Al Nadir have become more extreme and now the stakes are even higher. As more of their plans come to fruition, the need to do something about them is even greater.
At the same time, there are people in positions of power who are not what they seem. While not directly connected, they have a certain sympathy with the terrorists and are more than happy to use them to advance their own ends. Indeed, the conflict spills over into a wider canvas, one that could have devastating repercussions for us all.
The action is non-stop and very realistic, graphic and visceral. The technology is at the cutting edge, just past the point of what we have now (or, at least, what we’re told we have) yet totally plausible. Some of the descriptions will have you gasping.
The bonus for me as a fan of Sci-fi is that we start to see more of the other-world influence that was only hinted at in the first books. Paralleling the events on Earth, there is a power struggle here too, with good and evil locked together in a fight for supremacy.
If you like nerve-taut spy action thrillers and sci-fi weirdness, just imagine the genres mixed by a master.
Having read the first two books in the series, I was more than keen to start The Resonance.
The world is being held in a grip of terror by Al Nadir and it's two villainous Chiefs, Al Douri and Sabeena. They will stop at nothing to bring the planet to its knees, domination their only goal.
World leaders are cowering, unsure of what to do, with the exception of one, who has very serious plans to rid the world of this evil.
Not giving too much away, the main characters are really put through the mill in this book, with some very harrowing scenes played out in graphic detail. And it's not just the main characters who are subjected to it, as others are dragged into the fray, holding up or turning allegiances. You just don't know who is whose side.
That's the great thing about this book. You're kept guessing until the last moments.
There are some spectacular set-pieces, with carnage never seen before unfolding as the pages turn. No one is safe from Al Nadir and no one can hide.
It must fall on the Protector to step up to the plate, which takes the story to another level completely. It's a mix of spy thriller and sci-fi adventure all rolled into one.
I cannot wait to check out the next book, of which I hope will do a very similar number on me as The Resonance.
Sam and Ellie Noor join forces to continue the battle against the international terror group that would take over the world. As much future science-techno fiction as thriller, I gave this a four-star rating rather than higher only because this is not within my normal reading taste. That said, Michelle Medhat delivers a story replete with action, imagination, some serious violence, and even an enduring love story. A killer-sadistic cabal of terrorists has the world on edge with an other-worldly weapon with which they threaten man-kind. At the same time, there is a president who believes he is the anointed one, the second-coming. Put them together and you have a recipe for destruction… all controlled by ET inter-dimensional, super beings who are just as fractured and duplicitous as the humans they are trying to manipulate. There is a Ten-Most Wanted List of bad-guys and notably, fewer good guys to contend with. Some you might recognize from your neighborhood, some from news broadcasts, and the last only exist in the worlds of Heinlein, Asimov, and Herbert. It is a well-crafted “explosive” and continuing series of “pulse-pounding” novels that once you commit to beginning, you will be psychologically on the hook for the rest.
An edge-of-your-seat read is an understatement! The Trusted Series will knock you off the chair and leave you begging for more. I just finished book #3, The Resonance, and I am blown away. Ellie Noor realizes she’s more than human (I’ll say no more). But this revelation adds tension to her life with her great love and husband, MI6 spy Sam Noor. Games of power and destruction literally throw planets off balance, including Earth. It’s up to Ellie to save the world, but she didn’t have a clue she had any power until now. The Resonance is gritty, edgy, naughty, and fabulous!
The saga continues, the stakes are high. It's non-stop action on steroids. Games of power and destruction both on earth and in the alien world, interwoven in a love story of epic proportions. It will totally blow you away.
This book is part of a series, and this particular book gets rather graphic with the torture sections. I am giving it an average rating as this book just wasn't for me
What an amazing continuation of an awesome ride! The Resonance by Michelle Medhat is the 3rd in her Trusted Thriller Series, and boy does it keep you going! As Ellie's life hangs in the balance, so does the worlds. She is struggling to escape her situation and trying to figure out how to save her husband, Sam at the same time. However now, she is also responsible to save the world. Can she prevent WW III and heal the earth? What an exhilarating ride that Michelle takes us on. I am looking forward to book 4 and seeing what conclusions come. I received a free ARC of this book and these opinions are my own.
Love this series, could not wait to read this book. It takes you from normal to out of this world. Nasty things happen, explosions. Deaths. Good versus evil. A true love affair. If you like things a bit different, you will love this. Thought it would be the end of the story with this book, but it’s not! Cannot wait for the next one even tho I got blown up in this one. You will have to read it to find out what that means.
The book continues with the capture of Sam and Ellie by Al Nadir. Can Sam remain quiet as he is forced by Salim to watch Ellie being tortured by Sabena? Will they be able to save Earth from destruction? Can Aby-Od help planet Earth? The Resonance is the third book in this fantastic thriller series. Talk about being taken on a rollercoaster ride, this book was amazing! If you like an action packed thriller, then this series is definitely for you. I highly recommend this book.
I got this as a e book for my laptop from the author. i enjoyed reading it. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. I look forward to the next book by this author.
