The Dragon was trained from his youth to operate as a lethal killing machine. He has tangled with crime lords, dangerous insurgents, even Nether Ops… and none of these forces has been able to bring the elusive warrior to heel.
Enter the notorious bounty hunter Tyrus Rechs.
Rechs takes on the job as a favor to an old Savage Wars buddy. Only Rechs isn’t out to kill the Dragon—his mission is to save the kid’s life.
This is the sort of book that keeps you up all night. Don’t start it unless you have plenty of time. There’s no good place to put it down! Rex is a legend many lifetimes over, but this book is proof that — even after all the killing — he still has a soul.
An excellent Tyrus Rechs story. Could use more Dragon
As a Tyrus Rechs book, it shines, and those wishing to read more of the ancient bounty hunter’s adventures pre-Galaxy’s Edge will not be disappointed, as he pits himself against the scum of the galaxy, whether they skulk in low places or high.
However – SPOILERS
There’s not nearly as much Dragon as I’d like.
Don’t get me wrong: when the Dragon has scenes, he makes an impact – no doubt of that – but in a book where the theme seems to be Tyrus Rechs taking on a deadly young opponent who might – just might – have his number and all with his hands tied by having to refrain from lethal force, I’d have liked to see more of him.
Finally – further spoilers – no throw-down.
I was primed for an epic, brutal, one-on-one throw-down between T-Rex and Dragon, which, unfortunately, never materializes.
Lovers of Galaxy’s Edge and Tyrus Rechs will not regret reading, and I was enthralled throughout, just wish there was more Dragon.
More history to add to the lore of Tyrus Rechs. Galaxy's Edge series just keeps on giving with this character's back stories. Another tale about the ageless bounty hunter seeking out someone bred to have the same abilities as himself. Lots of action and awesome world building as usual. Read it from cover to cover like I usually do with the books in this series.
Outliving everyone is a blessing and a curse for Tyrus and I think this story shows us both sides of the coin. I love reading everything about this enigma of a man, in the hope of finding out who he really was. Full of the usual amazing violence but threaded through with heart.
An interesting continuation of the subplot around Tyrus Rechs. Let's face it, if you're this far into the series you know what you want: more General Tyrus! And this book delivers.
Usually 5 stars from me, but was never a big Rambo fan lol. Enjoyed the Apocalypse parts, was hoping that's the way it was going. Felt very rushed in parts, and I know I am being picky, but I am used to a five star adrenaline rush from the Galaxy's Edge series. Usually finish their books within 48 hours, this one took four days, didn't grab me like the rest, even writing this review i know it's loyalty that stops me from giving it three stars. Sorry guys. KTF
I love the character of Tyrus Rechs, he's always awesome and I love to read stories about him. That being said, this one was not the 5 star level adventure I was hoping for. The meaning of the bit about the boy with the ball took too long to become clear, which made it difficult for me to be truly interested - why would I have to care about this boy? It becomes clear eventually of course, but it had taken too long for me to be really invested. I also didn't like the part where Rechs doesn't have his armor, for quite a mundane reason. I mean, if it had been stolen, or lost during some awesome fight, that would have been something. But the way it was written, it came across as a pretty blatant plot device. These authors could have done better, especially with their track record of the series so far.
As for narration: Ray Porter is a good narrator and he was perfect for the Bobiverse series; but I like R.C. Bray (who narrates the main saga) much better for this particular genre, with all of the many hardass, gruff military heroing going on in these books.
I was very much affected by this book. And Tyrus Rechs himself,a character I now believe to be the best, most engaging and most tragic figure in military science fiction. I've read thousands of books and ebooks in my life, but the conflicted humanity of Rechs as he fights so hard for the things that matter to him,the people that matter to him,is nothing short of an emotional tsunami for readers.....Tyrus Rechs in Chasing the Dragon is simply amazing and unforgettable.
Tyrus Rechs books are a good story but do not have the same grip for me as Galaxy's Edge Series (Book 1-9), perhaps the bar is set too high. Please keep up the good work, here is a voracious reader who has read lots of SciFi books from Issac Asimov (Foundation) to Patty Jansen (Ambassador, Return of Aghyrians.
Still, I renewed my Kindle Unlimited for these books only and I am very keenly awaiting new books to this series. Already read Galaxy's Edge, Order of Centurions, Tyrus Rechs that makes 14 books in 4 months, starting on Savage Wars today.
★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will). ★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this. ★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad. ★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time? ★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.
If for whatever reason, I go back and reread a good book, I will change the rating to five-star because I read it again.
This one was a fun ride, though it didn’t quite hit the highs of other books in the series. The action was solid, and the stakes were clear, but the story felt a bit more formulaic than I expected. Still, it kept me engaged, especially with the underlying tension of the mission. There’s a good balance of intensity and intrigue, and while it didn’t blow me away, it’s a good addition to the story of who is Rechs and what has he done.
Read about Tyrus and enjoy which I am sure you will. I had to find time to start with but by the time I was half way through I found putting it down a chore I did not want to do anything but just sit and read and return just another line or two and then suddenly you realize you have finished and want more so for us please give us more Tyrus Rech.
Great twist with The Dragon's origins and good world building with Sinasia's history and stance in the Republic. The book keeps you on your toes as you wonder what comes next but you never guess what actually happens. the ending is the best in the series with it's happy yet sad end. Once you finish this book, you will know the meaning and power behind this word: Ball.
This series continues to captivate, as we continue to get a better and deeper look into the man behind the infamous (depending on who you ask) Mark I armor. If you wanted to know more about everyone's favorite general/bounty-hunter, or if you just want some kickass gunslinging, this is definitely a tale for you. Plus Ray Porter is a fantastic Tyrus.
Man these are good and you get really invested. The battles are awesome, lol I want to see them on a screen, but imagining them as reading is enthralling. A bit of a spoiler alert though, I want to see her dead lol, maybe that’s upcoming as that seems like a loose end. Onto the next!
Its the galaxy's favorite bounty hunter off on another adventure full of gunslingers, bounty hunters, legioneers, and ....whats this? Do I believe what I am reading???....ninjas and samurai. To find out more grab this title for a great action packed read.
Great adventure story. Love the way his back story is woven into his current adventure. Now I have to find something else to read until Anspach and Cole get the next book completed.
A most satisfying read, not quite as good as the “old man” stories by Nick Cole, but almost. Highly unrealistic action sequences, but who cares! No romance. Also, the main character seems to be immortal. Can’t wait to read the others in the series.
I don't understand what people see in this book. Rex is a boring, 2 dimensional character whose personal life is just as uninteresting. The action is ok but doesn't make up for a drab arc. Only reading because of the Galaxy's Edge universe.
