My best friend's brother took my innocence... and I have a secret that he doesn't know about yet. He's about to become my baby daddy.
Can you blame me for sleeping with him? He went from being a nerd in high school to a wealthy chef with his own food empire. Check that. A total drool-worthy chef. He hired me as an intern, and it's not just a job. I've got perks. His bulging muscles. Our sizzling chemistry. And his adorable little daughter. He even asked me to be his fake fiancée.
The number of secrets on my plate are piling up though. And my dark past already forced him to leave me once. So, what happens if that past comes back to haunt us once again?
I stopped reading when the H date raped the h after getting her drunk, was well aware that she was a virgin, failed to use any form of protection, and then blamed it on her. Sorry - hard pass on that sh!t.

The chef/love interest takes advantage of the very, very drunk protagonist whiles he’s stone cold sober. Full, enthusiastic, informed consent it was not. Plus, NO condom. SERIOUSLY?!?!
Ashlee Price's writing takes you through a roller coaster of motions, with the perfect amount of drama, suspense, mystery, twists and turns, sizzlin' chemistry, humor, trauma, twists and turns, betrayal, and secrets. This fake fiancée romance story has a great storyline and characters that come alive on the pages and will keep you turning the pages long past your bedtime.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the story offered a good balance between fun and serious. The story was interesting and the characters likable. The chemistry between was steamy and I thought they made a good couple. Strong emotions, drama, suspense, twists and romance are combined into a potent blend that will capture and hold your attention. A very entertaining read. This is my honest, voluntary review.
The story-line is well-paced, and the characters are well-developed, You’ll love Jackson’s adorable daughter, it's well written and entertaining, and sometimes really hot and steaming. I read through the book without a break up to the end
I love the chemistry between Cathy and Jackson, but I don’t like that he took advantage when Cathy was drunk.
So, go ahead, grab this book and let Cathy, Jackson and his adorable daughter give you a really great reading time
I received an ARC of this book provided via Bookfunnel. I have voluntarily chosen to leave my review in support of this book.
One thing that bothered me was when the h got drunk and the H had sex with her. Talk about taking advantage. She couldn’t even remember it & it was her first time.
Sweet romance story about finding love after loss. Cathy lost her best friend at a young age and was never able to get over it. Jackson lost his wife but was able to move on by concentrating on running a successful restaurant business and raising his young daughter. Cathy and Jackson come face to face again when she applies to be an intern for him. He is able to help her leave her guilt behind and move forward with her life. They battle with several different threats that could prevent them from their happy ever after. Great ending!
I know this book has some great ratings, which quite frankly, is surprising to me. Full disclosure, I never finished this book. I got exactly 70% through this book before deciding I just couldn’t do it: I couldn’t finish it. I have many issues with this book, listed as follows, in no particular order:
First. The rape scene. Yes, it was rape. If she was too drunk to even REMEMBER having sex, then it wasn’t consensual. Especially considering the fact that Cathy was an admitted virgin. And then AFTER the fact, when she confronts him about it, first Jackson insists it’s not his fault because she’s just too irresistible??? And THEN he has the audacity to call her childish for being upset. Let me tell you, I was livid.
Second. The weird ex mother-in-law. This didn’t make sense. Like... I know there’s a lot of crazies out there, but what about this one makes her so un-shakeable? The whole Betty dynamic was weird, and I don’t know why she was allowed to lurk around.
Third. Jackson’s late wife. I guess I’m just more used to books where if there’s a dead wife, the widower is much more traumatized. Or at least a little bit of guilt? Nope. The dead wife existed solely as a plot device to provide Jackson with a child and an evil ex mother-in-law with a barely plausible vendetta.
Fourth. Did I mention the rape scene? Yeah, still mad.
Fifth. Ken. Oh, Ken. I know she existed as the wise, godmotherly type that sees all and gives sage advice at all the right times. But honestly, she was incredibly awkward. And nosy. Heck, the first day she meets Cathy she’s encouraging her to move in with Jackson. And guess what? Jackson told her about their “first time” and she too told Cathy to get over it.
Sixth. The fake engagement. Shaky. Not really relevant. Another cliche plot device. At this point I just feel like the author is trying to throw in every rom-com idea she can come up with. It’s incredibly messy and confusing.
Seven. These fools NEVER used any kind of protection or birth control. At all. How stupid can two fictional characters be??? We all know where babies come from, and these two seemed to have no interest in preventing it. Stupid.
Eight. I know I’ve ragged a lot on Jackson lately, so now it’s Cathy’s turn. This girl is the most mopey, irrational human being. I mean, bad stuff happens all the time. Why was she allowed to miss three years of high school because of a dead best friend? And then she’s still so obsessed with it. A friend dying is traumatizing, I’m sure. But at some point you have to get over it. I just wanted to slap Cathy sometimes. People die. Get over it, girl.
Nine. Not only was Cathy the most depressed human being in the world, but she was also so shallow. All of a sudden Jackson is hot and she’s obsessed? This girl spent the whole book focusing on how hot Jackson is and how much he makes her drool. She shows no interest in liking him as a man. But then again, he’s not a great man, so, whatever.
Ten. The scene where Jackson loses Maisie . Before running to the cops, dumb dumb didn’t even think to look for his daughter IN the play equipment. Seriously, no one in this book has a lick of common sense. And for someone who’s so obsessed with everyone keeping an eye on his daughter, Jackson sure seems to turn his back on her a lot...
Eleven. This is where I stopped. For some reason, cops show up on Cathy’s doorstep, saying someone accused her of murdering her friend 10 years ago. When they were 16. In an incident that almost killed Cathy. Holy moly. In real life, this would’ve been laughed out of the police department. But instead, the author sent THREE uniformed men to her doorstep with no evidence (or at the very least, shaky evidence). What the heck? At this point, the book just became too ridiculous and I had to stop.

Cathy Jeffries wakes up in a hospital, not sure of what happened to her. She and her best friend went to her uncle’s lake cabin. Cathy apparently drowned and was resuscitated; all she remembers is seeing Trisha’s face, but was told Trisha, who just celebrated her 16th birthday, didn’t make it.
Finding a job has been exhausting. Cathy would be losing her apartment in two months when the landlady’s son begins renovations. She has put in a ton of applications for work but no one called back. Now she is applying for internships. It may be an hourly wage, but it would be some money coming in! The one she is driving to today is over an hour’s drive from her apartment, and she thinks she should probably not bother, but she’s almost there so she will at least check it out. The man she finds in the kitchen where she was told to go is very attractive and she is speechless for a moment. Then he says he knows her! He repeats her first and last name, but she has no idea who this is! He says his name is Jackson… Jackson Holloway – this man is Trisha’s brother!!
As they begin to talk, Cathy seriously considering not staying, a woman with purple hair rides up on a motorcycle and Jackson introduces her as Kendra “Ken” Moore, his restaurant manager who is hiring an intern. Ken tells her about the job, Jackson adds in some perks, but Cathy is still not sure she should work here. Then his four-year-old daughter, Maisie, runs in and hugs him. She tells Cathy she is pretty, and Cathy responds that Maisie looks like a princess. Finding that Maisie doesn’t even know what a princess is, she offers to tell her a story or read to her – and accepts the job.
Jackson’s mother-in-law, Betty, constantly interferes with his decisions about Maisie’s tumbling class rather than “educational studies” – for a 4-year-old. When she called him as they were getting in the car, and would not stop criticizing him, it allowed Maisie to pull away from his hand and chase a butterfly. An almost-collision with a bike rider scared her, and Betty heard the whole thing.
When Cathy works very late and is afraid to oversleep again, she sleeps on the couch in the office. Jackson was very upset because the security system isn’t installed in his restaurant as the men are still working on it – and they stay there as well! So he asked her to stay in his large house. She could watch Maisie when she had free time if she wanted to. Being around Maisie took away her loneliness and made her feel wanted. Maisie, who had nightmares, stopped having them after the first night Cathy held her. It was definitely working out. If only Jackson didn’t remind her of Trisha. Would she ever find comfort in him instead of remembering? Perhaps when she has to pretend to be his fiancée to help him fight Betty’s cruel intention to take Maisie from him?
This was such a good story. The author captured the reader’s attention immediately, the detailed descriptions and the characters immediately becoming real people and bringing the reader in to share the vivid emotions. From that moment on, Cathy becomes important to us as she battles back her trauma and tries to make a life for herself. And throughout the story line, the reader can almost feel Trisha’s spirit gently bringing her brother and best friend into a family they both need. This book was so amazing, I promise you won’t want to miss reading it!
This Book Must be Added to Your Reading List. Does a friendship transcend death? Does a mother-in-law stop being one when a husband’s wife dies? Cathy and Jackson wrestle with these and other dilemmas along their friendship and courtship. Cathy as a teen experienced a life altering event. While at the lake she drowned and had to be resuscitated while her best friend, Trish, didn’t make it. Unfortunately Cathey has never been able to remember that day and it has had a negative impact on her life. Unable to find a job, she finally decides to interview for an internship. It’s a restaurant an hour away. The Chef, Jackson, immediately recognizes her. He is Trish’s older brother. Cathy is somewhat ambivalent about accepting until she meets Maisie, Jackson’s three year old. She accepts and soon moves in because he only lives a couple of blocks from the restaurant as opposed to an hour. She also agrees to help with childcare duties. This does not sit well with Betty, Maisie’s maternal grandmother. She is an awful person who goes about accusing Cathy of all sorts of things. As their relationship progresses Jackson and Cathy draw closer to protect Maisie and each other. Danger presents itself in many forms. But hopefully it’s love that will override all. Author Ashlee Price has written a phenomenal love story. Not only about romantic love but also about self-love. I’m not going to lie here there were a few tears shed while reading a couple of scenes. I overwhelmingly am recommending this book for your reading enjoyment and pleasure. Peace. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Ms. Ashlee Price has just published a heartbreakingly beautiful love story for us to lose ourselves in. Kitchen Boss has a superbly crafted storyline with the incredible characters to match.
He is a restaurant owner, a single Father, as well as her best friends Brother. Jackson has known unimaginable heartache and yet has turned his sorrow into devotion; for his adorable Daughter, Maisie, as well as his successful restaurant chain; leaving no personal time for himself. Imagine his surprise to see Cathy standing in front of him looking for an intern position for/at his latest restaurant. She might be in her 20's, but this, beautifully complicated, woman has yet to truly live her life. Setting out on her own, is quite simply, difficult to say the least. However, Cathy is determined to try, without the help of her parents. Having survived a tragedy that has altered her life, Cathy, is discovering herself and her own strength. Following up on a lead for employment, Cathy is shocked by seeing Jackson after all these years. Both have grown and so has the heat & chemistry between them. I encourage all romance reader's to follow along as these two not only heal one another, but thrive as a couple, and find their happily ever after.
I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader's copy of Kitchen Boss in exchange for my honest and voluntarily given opinion. I highly recommend reading this book as well as anything written by Ms. Price.
Cathy has had a very rough life. She nearly drowning as a teenager. But her best friend , Trisha, did and she can not remember what happened that night. So Cathy has lived with this emptiness in her life and she does not want to fill. But things change when she needs to go out and get a job so she doesn't have to depend on her mom for the rest of life. So she interviews as an manager in training intern. But on her way there, she realize that it is too far for her to travel and is going to turn it down. But the owner of the restaurant starts interviewing her and realizes who she is. Will she take the job once she realizes that it's her best friend's big brother, Jackson, or will she still live in the past?
Jackson has never forgot about his sister, Trisha or her best friend, Cathy. Then Cathy walks into his new restaurant looking for a job and all of his old feeling for her resurfaces. Now he prove to her that it is destiny that they reconnect and that Trisha has something to do with it. But Jackson has his own personal issues to deal with too. He has a daughter who lost her mother and whose grandmother wants to take her. Will Jackson be able to be the best dad to his daughter and best pick for Cathy?
I loved this book. I could not put it down once I started reading it. I had to see what happened next. They had so many obstacles to get through to see if it was worth it. I can't wait to read another book by this author. I recommend this book to others.
This story is about Jackson and Cathy. The story begins with Cathy not able to find a job and having a cat intrude in her apartment. When she goes to return the cat to her landlady, she is informed that she will need to move out as her son is renovating the apartments. To this news she is now determined to find a job as she will need to move soon. She finds an internship job and decides to go there, but then realizes that it is over an hour drive. The worst thing is that the cook or better yet her new boss, is the brother of her childhood best friend who passed away saving her from drowning. Because he reminds of the tragedy, she states that it may not be a good idea of her taking this management internship, but Ken and Jackson convince her, and she takes it. The story takes off the next day, with involvement of Ken, Maisie (Jackson’s daughter) and the character of Betty along with the groupies, this story is worth reading. I take meanings from each story as they are not just all about romance and sex, this one was forgiving oneself and having faith in those around you – learning to LOVE….

Kitchen Boss was a great read. When I first saw it was an I slept with my best friend's brother, I must admit I hesitated, but I’m so glad I didn’t. It’s not your traditional story. Cathy has a dark past and it’s creeping in slowly. It’s haunting her in moments of her life. She moving forward but not really living. Jackson was a skinny lanky nerd who turn into a hot inked up chef. He hasn’t laid eyes on Cathy in eleven years. So much has taken place they both need to catch up. Jackson has a little girl Maisie who is adorable. Well one thing leads to another and now Cathy is pregnant . Cathy and Jackson past keeps creeping up and they just don’t see a happily ever after. This book was really great. It’s not at all what I expected. I loved the author’s writing style, she is a fantastic story teller. I must admit I got a little teary eyed. This book has become one of my favorites. If you check out any best friend’s brother story this year please for the love of all books read this one. I promise you will not regret it.
Kitchen Boss by Ashlee Price Cathy Jeffries at age fifteen went swimming in a lake that the water was too cold for her and she got a cramp. She was drowning when she saw her best friend Trisha. Cathy woke up in the hospital with her mom beside her and no memory of what hat happened. She slowly got back to school and is looking for a job but finds manager internship at a restaurant. When she meets the owner she is in for a surprise. Kendra is her new boss and Jackson is the owner of the restaurant. This story grabs you from the beginning and does not let you go until the end. It is a page-turner with all the twist and turns. This book is a romance, mystery, suspenseful, and humorous all wrapped together in an amazing story. This has got to go in my top ten book for sure and I highly recommend this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is my honest opinion.
ONE WILD ROLLERCOASTER RIDE!!! Cha-ching! Ashlee raised the bar, broke the mold, seized the dynamics, the whole kit-and-ka-boodle with this thrilling storyline and gripping plot. This bad boy showcases 100% on point realism, kicking up a churning vortex chocked-full of daunting circumstances and a bevy of surprising events that keep you flipping page after page. Wrestling through the trials and tribulations with all the drama, deceit, betrayal, intrigue and electrifying suspense thrusts this bad boy to life spectacularly. Sparks fly as explosive chemistry ignites, mayhem ensues and lines are drawn. You feel everything the characters feel right down the heart pounding connection. The characters personalities are authentic, genuine and realistic with depth and qualities that blend and flow smoothly. The scenes are so colorfully descriptive it's easy to interpret each scenario as they play off one another in perfect sync. Remarkable job Ashlee, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
This story about Jackson and Cathy. Jackson is a widower raising his daughter. He lost his wife to cancer shortly after she gave birth to their daughter. Cathy is Jackson’s little sisters (Trisha) best friend. Trish dies when she was teenager. Cathy was there that night and almost dies too but she can’t remember anything from that night.
Jackson offers Cathy a job as an intern in his newest restaurant with the possibility of taking over managing it after it opens. As Jackson and Cathy get to know each other they start to fall in love. Cathy starts remembering little snippets of the night Trisha died. Can Trisha and Jackson hold to each other or will outside forces push them apart.
I really loved this book. I thought it was well written and the characters are enjoyable. I’ll be adding more of Ashlee Price’s books to my reading list.

Wow what an amazing story it’s very emotional and suspenseful. Cathy loses her best friend in a drowning accident which has left her half a person, years later she runs into her best friends brother but she didn’t recognise him at first Jackson he offers Cathy a job and a place to stay but Cathy is unsure about taking it but Jackson talks her into it. Jackson is a single dad he lost his wife a few years ago his mother in-law Betty criticises everything he does including his daughter all the while Jackson is trying to open his restaurant so he asks Cathy to be his fake fiancée to get his mother in-law off his back plus Cathy and his daughter Maisie have bonded. Things go from bad to worse when Betty tries to take his daughter from him and Cathy is kidnapped. This is one amazing story and there is so much going on in this story to keep you entertained and turning the pages and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Suffering from survivor's guilt Cathy struggles to make her own way professionally when she runs into a family friend she never thought she would see. Jackson has fame and fortune but his greatest gift is his daughter Maisy who is the love of his life. When Jackson sees Cathy again the flames of desire are ignited between the two but Cathy struggles to let go held bound to her past. Can Jackson convince Cathy that she deserves to be loved and cherished of will she continue to hide in the darkness of heartbreak and sadness never to realize the love that stands before her? It took a minute for me to get into this novel and there were areas that I struggled with but the overall story was a solid one. I wish that Jackson was a little more manly and not so easily tempted to move in a way that showed a side of him that was very distasteful and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Will Jackson find a way into Cathy’s solitary life Ashlee is one of my top ten authors as I just love everything she writes! Cathy is saved from drowning by her best friend, Trisha, but due to amnesia has no memory of how it happened or how her best friend died. Eleven years later, Cathy walks into a restaurant to apply for their internship which she finds out is owned by Trisha’s brother, Jackson. The restaurant manager hires her on the spot, and Jackson has Cathy move into his house rental to save her time on her commute and to help with his daughter. Jackson’s mother-in-law causes a stink over their living arrangement, so Jackson makes Cathy his pretend fiancée. But will pretending to be engaged lead to something more? You have to read to find out and will love the twists in the plot!
Cathy was just a teen and enjoying her summer with her best friend when everything she knew changed. It has been years but Cathy still can't remember everything about that night but one thing she never forgot was Trisha. When Cathy goes for a job interview she is shocked to learn that Jackson, Trisha's brother, is the one who is hiring. Something else that stands out to Cathy is just how much Jackson has grown and he's not the skinny nerd anymore, he's all man....This was such a good read! The story has it all....suspense, drama, and romance. The characters have really good chemistry and it's hard to put it down once you start. Definitely recommend

Cathy's looking for a job. Sure, she's older than the first time job seekers but that shouldn't matter. Finally, she finds a job but Jackson owns the restaurant she'll be a management trainee in. Jackson and Cathy have a history and not a pleasant one at that. They both lost someone very important to them early in life, Jackson's sister and Cathy's best friend. But they're not the same people they were then. How will they get along and what will their relationship be like now?
Ashlee Price did such a wonderful job writing this book. We got it in these pages - suspense, tragedy, laughs, hot sex, and yes, love. Ashlee always helps you understand and feel the characters actions and feelings. This is one of her best books
Jackson and Cathy find each other after years apart and are drawn to each other. They share the mutual loss of his sister and her best friend and feel her hand guiding them along. This is an emotional love story that explores grief, loss and renewal. Maisie is a beautiful little girl that is a glue that joins them together. The characters are well done and show a myriad of emotions. As their love story unfolds they have friends and family who are rooting for them and doing everything to keep them together. Cathy has an innocence about her that is so refreshing. Jackson is a gentleman who is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. There are still those who want to tear them apart and they will have to fight to build the family they desire.
Kitchen Boss by Ashlee Price is a sweet contemporary romance. In this book, Cathy awakes in the hospital with amnesia after almost drowning. She discovers that her best friend Trisha died and that she was in a coma for several days. Years later as Cathy searches for a job she applies for an internship and is hired by Jackson her dead best friends older brother. This is the beginning of their relationship of boss to employee, but which eventually turns into that of friends then more. This story was so sweet and yet had just enough spice to make it hot. The best part of this love story was the mystery that was solved at the very end so the truth came out. I really loved this book! Kitchen Boss is sweet love story with a suspenseful twisted ending.
Great story with a unique story and beginning for Cathy and Jackson. Her writing was nice and easy. The sex scenes were hot, although I felt very uncomfortable with the first one. It just wasn’t right AT ALL.
When Cathy has run out of options for finding a job she decides to become a paid intern. This is where she runs into her best friends brother, the chef of a new restaurant he’s getting ready to open. They haven’t seen each other since the tragedy happened so it takes a moment for him to recognize her. He is a widower with a daughter Maisie who falls for Cathy and vice versa. Now that Jackson is no longer a “puny” nerd but a buff Chef she can barely keep herself from staring. Great storyline.
I was really disappointed that Jackson had unprotected sex with a drunk Cathy who couldn’t really give informed consent and then he blamed her for initiating it! OMG she was drunk and he knew it as he virtually had to carry her! Did the author really have to include that scene? The fact that she couldn’t remember it the next day was even more disgusting. Really, in this day & age of informed consent, the author could do a lot better and make the male character far more likeable with just a bit of chivalry. Apart from that it was a good story with interesting characters. However due to the big issue with informed consent, I won’t be reading anymore of this author’s books.
