The first Holistic Wealth book was inspired by her viral article, which was viewed by more than 50 million people globally (see below): https://medium.com/thrive-global/my-h...
Arianna Huffington had this to say about Keisha Blair's book excerpt: "Such a moving excerpt from Keisha Blair's book "Holistic Wealth": "Our education system teaches about linearity, not about what to do when this linear pattern breaks, not where to look for resilience, not the art of recovery from disruption."
Holistic Wealth: 32 life lessons to help you find purpose, prosperity and happiness. There are life lessons, case studies and practical tips that are broken down into steps to help you achieve wealth in all areas of your life. It focuses on your physical health, emotinal and spiritual as well as financial. This a valuable tool and it inspired me in so many ways. You learn how to overcome challenges and stay on the road to a positive and more focused life. I have learned how to navigate the things that block me and the behavioral patterns that keep me stuck in different areas of my life. A great book that I never knew I needed until I read it.
I received Holistic Wealth - 32 Life Lessons To Help You Find Purpose, Prosperity, And Happiness by Keisha Blair, Canadian author, from Keisha in exchange for an honest review. As soon as she contacted me and I read the synopsis about the book, I was really excited to read it. I love discovery and creating more balance in your life kind of books and knew this would be right up my alley. It did not disappoint! * Layout
The book is written into 4 parts - Intentional Life Purpose, Financial Independence, Physical and Spiritual Movement and Goodwill and Strong Relationships. I appreciate the bundling of topics into separate parts. I especially enjoyed the whole part on finances as I find that to be a topic that is not often talked about and is most certainly a huge aspect in creating Holistic Wealth. Each part is further broken down into topics that fall appropriately within that part. At the end of each part there is a portfolio section that asks questions and has action items on how you're going to move forward with the information and knowledge you've just read. I really enjoyed this part - encouraging me to further think about what I read and how I could apply certain aspects to my life. * * Background Info
Before I get into more of what I loved about this book, some more background on Keisha Blair. Keisha's husband Garfield died unexpectedly eight weeks after she had given birth to their second child (nine years previous to this book). She published an article on Arianna Huffinton's Thrive Global about the forty life lessons that she learned after her husband's death and it went viral leading into the creation of this book. Keisha has a way with words and really laying out the facts on how to create a better sense of balance in your life, I'm not surprised it went viral! * * Sections that spoke to me
There really wasn't much that I disagreed with. So many sections resonated with me and I found myself nodding my head and saying, yes, of course I need to do that or that's a good idea!
Part 1 - Section 4 - Goals, With Wisdom
From this section I want to share a quote here,
"Also, be wise in your thoughts and confident in your unique path, so that if your colleague makes partner an you don't, you can celebrate with her and not feel like a failure. Your path will be different - it's supposed to be so. From a standpoint of holistic wealth, the obstructions to our goals hold considerable value, too."
I think this is so important! Yes, you will have goals and you'll have setbacks to those goals and if a friend or colleague has a similar goal to yours and it works out for them - it's so important that you separate your hard feelings about it not working out for you and that it did work out for them! It's hard. I've definitely been there- watching from the sidelines, many, many times and I've caught myself having negative thoughts but give my head a shake and remind myself that I genuinely am happy for my friend and colleague as they have their own battles to fight too. Practicing selflessness is so huge and can really the shape the kind of friend you're going to be. That's what I took from this anyways!
Basically all of Part 3 - Financial Independence. Some of the sections titled are A Plan for Financial Longevity, A Solid Long Term Investment, Freedom from Debt among a few others. Again, I appreciate authors who dive into this topic as someone who went to school and grew up learning hardly anything about finances and how to spend/save smart these are great to read and have further conversations about.
The only one I was a bit skeptical about was Part 1 - Section 6 - A Sabbatical. It's so so so important for people to take time to discover what they want out of life and how they're going to take the steps to get there. Taking time off of work may not be an answer that a lot of people can afford to do. Although, I think the overall message is that you should take some time off work/the daily grind whether it be a month or week or two, especially if it's not really causing you to thrive and to seek the answers you need to keep you going. Keisha also makes note of an article she wrote on how to prepare to take a sabbatical - linked here.
These are just a few sections that spoke to me, there were many more that resonated and these give you a snapshot of what's inside. * * Additional Resources
Throughout the whole book, each part and each section, Keisha has taken careful measures and really added to the wealth of the knowledge by including many, many other professionals she has interviewed for advice on certain topics in her book, linking back to other books or other articles. I thought this was so wonderful!! I looked up a few people that have been mentioned and have been inspired to read more books suggested to my ever growing to be read pile!
For example, she added quotes from Shakespeare and C.S. Lewis and includes advice from many different authors, entrepreneurs, and CEO's from around the world. This kind of range of varied professionals was very valuable and I was impressed with the lengths Keisha went to pull this all together! * * Recommend?
Yes! There is so much more to this book than I can even write in this one review! It's one I'm going to keep coming back to for sure, making notes and reflections where I can. I would most definitely recommend. There is so much valuable information, knowledge, holistic wealth in this book. If you're needing redirection or a pick me up or just to read a good self- discovery book, this one is for you!!
Holistic Wealth: 32 Life Lessons to Help You Find Purpose, Prosperity, and Happiness I liked the idea presented by the term holistic wealth (at least what popped into my head); building your joy and karma the same way you build your finances. But also applying it to your finances and basically everything in your life. That way, when the unexpected happens, as it did to the author, you have reserves to draw upon. And there were some ideas that have not yet been overused in self-help books (personal mission statement - wish this had been explained more, I feel like Blair has a great grasp of how to do this and could probably write another book on it) but others that were. While not developed from a blog (it was based off a viral article), it felt as though it were since there are a lot of repetitions which needs to happen if you are posting day-to-day to keep people in the know of what you are trying to accomplish but starts to wear in a book when you are reading the same thing quickly. A lot of the repetitions were reminders that Blair was a widow who was left with two kids, one less than a year old, which made me feel like I wasn't the core audience for this book. I found myself skimming over sections that didn't apply to me. Some could have been framed more in terms of general loss (I lost my brother recently and these things could have applied to me if framed differently.) I also got to participate in Blair's 7 day program to building Holistic Wealth. The book definitely explains it better but the ideas in the 7 days felt more inclusive and were wider ranging. I liked her style but think that the program was even better. Blair is dynamic to watch and I connected with her better from her videos than her book.

My thoughts: This was a no-nonsence book with practical advise that is easy to apply to your life. The first chapter with Blair’s disruption was very heartwrenching and pulled me into her advise. Some of my favorite chapter were the road trip for self -discovery,
Each of Us should have a financial identity-one that is separate and distinct from our spouses’s or parents. This was from the chapter on financial independence. This chapter really spoke to me as someone facing life on their own after twenty eight years of marriage, pretty much my whole adult life. Luckily I took care of the bills while married but I had no major credit cards or owned property on my own. I was married my entire adult life so I could defineltyl relate and learn from this chapter. She talks about renting out a room, which I am doing now, getting a roommate at almost 50, but it’s with another divorced female and it will allow me to stay in my home and have some companionship. I felt very validated with this advise.
I’m not one to be able to sit and read a self-help book like this ebeb uf I know I need it but what I have found to work for me is to read a chapter or two a day.
Ever wondered how to pinpoint your financial identity? Looking to cultivate peace of mind, strengthen your decision-making abilities, and balance your priorities when it comes to the competing demands on your time and attention – BEYOND dollars and sense?
As a highly sought-after keynote speaker and the founder of the Institute on Holistic Wealth, my colleagues and I were blessed to have Keisha Blair speak to our company, Canada’s largest and most mature financial planning firm (established in 1926). She told a compelling tale, weaving together tragedy and triumph, beginning with the story of her husband’s sudden passing, and facing reality as a widow with two children under the age of two.
Get ready to buy a copy for EVERY woman in your life – this book is based on the viral article, viewed by more than 50 MILLION people GLOBALLY, “My Husband Died At Age 34. Here are 40 Life Lessons I Learned From It”.

I am also an entrepreneur in the financial services industry (and the proud owner of 300+ finance books) – and I have NEVER come across a compendium as uniquely oriented towards money, empathy, financial decisions, and emotional intelligence. This book and workbook are sleek, eloquently written, beautiful to look at (the paper is very high quality and lovely to touch), and compelling to use.
Turn your phone off, put your feet up, and enjoy this journey like a mug of hot chocolate where the marshmallows never stop!
If I could give this book 10 STARS I would!! Every woman should read this book.
When one of my best friends introduced me to Keisha Blair years ago, I had no idea that living a holistically wealthy lifestyle was possible for me. It’s not about how I perceive my worth or value. It’s the idea that I could show up as myself and have that kind of money coming to me every month in less hours a week that I would have given any “good job” that’s out there, without the microaggressions, without being overworked, undervalued, underappreciated, and underpaid, without having to dim my light or play small, that is amazing to me. "Holistic Wealth is intentional by design" as Keisha Blair so eloquently states in her book. Every year we should get wiser and stronger and live our authentic best selves.
I’m still not at the level where I want to be yet, but I’m recalibrating and reimagining what’s possible for my life. What I love about Keisha Blair and her book Holistic Wealth is that it’s not only about the money. You don’t need to have a million dollars in the bank to have a rich life. Holistic Wealth is about cultivating a life of abundance that you can pay forward (no pun intended) by creating opportunities for yourself and others. It’s about recognizing and playing to your strengths. It’s about having the time, space, and cashflow to support yourself and your family, and give back to the community and have a life of balance, meaning and purpose. Kudos to you Keisha Blair for a job well done!!
This is an updated version of a previously released book. The author updated to include her thoughts related to the Covid-19 pandemic. I have read many books on personal finance and have led sessions of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace course as well. I am also a certified holistic nutritionist. This book is not nearly as good as many others that I have read in either the financial or wellness areas. The book is a mishmash with a section on life purpose, as well as personal finance, wellness and relationships. The author has a new age "spirituality" which also did not suit me, as a committed Christian. My recommendation for readers would be for them to choose other books more targeted to the areas of interest to them, whether that be finance, health, wellness or relationships. I received a complementary advanced copy of the book from the publisher via NetGalley.
This book is extremely motivational - - major understatement! It’s also practical and is packed with ideas and tips. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t benefit from this book - - whether you are just starting out in your career or have been retired for 10 years there are strategies to help you achieve a more holistic approach to life. I love that “holistic wealth" is described in this book as “wealth that comprises various elements - financial savvy and independence, a life purpose and mission, spiritual connection, and a generous demeanor- all of which lead to a greater sense of wholeness and resilience in times of difficulty, and to happiness and joy." It took the sudden death of my husband in 2013 to show me that balance and moderation are extremely important in life. I wish I had had this book at that point but I'm very glad to have it now.
This is a brilliant and deep book where the author gives readers a roadmap into how to handle any crisis and learn from it as she did when her husband died at 34, leaving her to raise her infant on her own. Her advice is practical, on point and applies to anyone. In a time of turmoil, this book helps you to slow down, take a deep breath and create a plan for a more pleasing future. She shares her 32 Life Lessons which contain a step by step plan to take control of your life. Highly recommended.
My whole heart wanted to love this book. I am familiar with concepts of holistic or whole human health and wealth and really appreciate them. I found the format and style of writing jumpy and hard to follow. I also found the share volume of references to courses, frameworks and resources from the author of the book distracting to the overall point.
Helpful concepts were introduced. However, frequently they were introduced briefly, and in a way that didn’t land, particularly effectively for my brain in terms of integration.
Great book and some very useful tidbits of information. Her experience is very inspiring and I like how she incorporates spiritual elements and service to others as a way to improve your life. Her tips for financial independence are great as well. Every section has a checklist which you can do yourself in a notebook in order to seed some practical skills in your overall behaviour. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a general improvement book.
This book is full of inspiration and tactical ideas on how to live your fullest life. Keisha Blair shares honest and candid stories about her journey after the loss of her young husband and how she perservered to live a life of holistic wealth. A must-read for anyone striving to reach the heights of a fuller life.
A great book to take your time, slow down and think about your life. I read each chapter slowly and savour each word. A moving, inspiring and powerful read.
Thank you @suzyapprovedbooktours for this tour invite.
𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 by @keishaoblair released March 22, 2022.
This is the best financial, mental health and overall wellness book I have ever read. This book is so thorough and organized. It is divided into four sections. Each of the sections goes into great detail about important topics related to holistic wealth so not just about money but overall mental health and emotional health (as well as money). As a 35-year-old, reading this book has helped me feel like I am setting up my future right. I now have a useful framework for making smart choices with my money and my life overall. Keisha Blair is amazing and the book feels like conversing with an older sister who is helping me learn from her life lessons while teaching me some valuable life lessons along the way. Her advice is simple to understand, yet so powerful. My favourite concepts from the book were how to create a personal mission statement and crafting goals with wisdom, practicing mindful budgeting and spending habits. I also LOVED the new Holistic Wealth Expanded and Updated book by Keisha Blair. Thank you Keisha Blair!!
This is one of the best books I've read this year. Keisha offers so much insight on how to build a holistically wealthy life through financial independence, spiritual self-renewal, physical health, mental strength, love + relationships, and more. The book is filled with so much wisdom and inspiring content for overcoming life-altering setbacks. I believe the Holistic Wealth concept should be taught in schools because it is a clear guide towards becoming more resilient as individuals + as a society! My favorite aspect of Holistic Wealth is the highlight on building a brand and living with a purpose that also contributes positively to humanity. I found the advice in those chapters to be helpful and reassuring to my mission as an entrepreneur and writer. I highly recommend this read to anyone looking to build a wealthy life that's solid and authentic.
I read this book because I’m the mother of a 34 year old who is married and has a child – I can’t imagine what the author went through when she lost her husband. I found the information not just useful for me to share with my daughter, but for my own personal use as well. The subtitle says it includes 32 Life Lessons to Help You Find Purpose, Prosperity, and Happiness – I found way more than 32! The entire book is full of easy-to-read and completely relatable information and the trailblazers that the author interviewed have such a diverse range of experiences, I truly think there is something for everyone on the pages of this book.
After receiving an AR copy of this book, I bought a copy for each of my four daughters. It's a book that I believe every young woman should read. Each of Keisha's 32 life lessons are something that I wish I had known when I was young and starting my life. But thankfully, I can give my girls the gift of this book. Everything from financial health to knowing who they are and intentionally choosing the path they walk in this life. A true gift. Keisha walked through the fire at such a young age and came out of the ashes a beautiful person with wisdom that she generously and sincerely shares with others. Must read -
I was first attracted to this because of the beautiful cover! But then I quickly realized what a wealth of knowledge it carried as well.
Has a book ever felt relevant to the times we live in? I think that Holistic Wealth does... it's a journey of a single mom of 2, who talks about finding the correct path during these times... and when read how she navigated these turbulent times alone, I realized i should stop paying attention to merely financial wealth but also to physical, spiritual and emotional wealth.
This was a quick read and carries so many tips to better your personal Finances
Holistic Wealth should be a must-read for everyone. I had the chance to interview the author, Keisha Blair for my podcast, and I love her story of finding balance and success after a personal tragedy. In this book, you learn practical ways to truly find purpose and prosperity that lead you to think differently about the concept of wealth. This is a book that will stay on my shelves for years to come.
Keisha's personal story is really incredible. Seeing how she managed to cope with the sudden loss of her husband, becoming a single mother (just 8 weeks after giving birth no less!) is truly incredible. She offers some great tips for financial, physical, and emotional health without being preachy. This book is accessible and inspiring!
This is one of the best books I have ever read. I recommend it for everyone to build resilience, and grit in all key areas of life. It also has life lessons on happiness, finding your purpose and prosperity in your finances. The author does a great job of giving practical tips and examples of how to implement the advice in your life.
I enjoyed this book. It was easy to read, and inspirational. While reading this book, I did a lot of self-reflection about my life and whether I am living it as I should. I felt quite uplifted after reading this and will re-read it some time when I need to be reminded of what is important. Would definitely recommend it.
Happy to have taken the Holistic Wealth 8 Day challenge, but what I loved more was that, once I started reading this book I had to keep going, the information, the lessons, the encouragement, gave me the inspiration I needed.
