Welcome to Starry Hollow, where spells were made to be broken.
When a gaming tournament comes to Starry Hollow, everyone is thrilled with the influx of tourists--until a player ends up dead. Meanwhile, Ember makes an important discovery in connection with her mysterious ancestor and the Rose family deals with a visit from an old relative who gets under Aunt Hyacinth's skin, which means everybody's tip-toeing on eggshells to avoid her wrath. Thanks to the many distractions, Ember fails to notice that Raoul is involved in something over his furry head.
Can Ember stop the madness and identify the killer before the end of the tournament or will it be game over?

... are all the things that Ember has to contend with in this new story.
A phone game is playing a tournament in Starry Hollow thanks to her cousins. Unfortunately one of the top gamers doesn't get his chance when he is found dead.
A whole town of unknown gamers running around the town fighting on their mobiles in different locations give everyone the run around. Ember was already tasked with covering the tournament for the paper but now she has a killer to find.
Her encounters with the sheriff have got better and more friendly. Even the Deputy seems more mellow.
A relative comes to town and he notices the changes in the Rose family. He tells Ember a few things that have her thinking.
The story is good and well flowing. It was fun to read.
Ember Rose does it again. After Florian arranges a gaming tournament in Starry Hollow, the town is flooded with paranormal gamers. The morning the tournament begins the projected winner is found murdered in Linnea's kitchen, his head bashed in with a cast iron pan. Naturally, Ember jumps right into the investigation.
Like all of the Starry Hollow Witches books, this one is entertaining and a lot of fun to read. It's a semi-lightweight mystery with quirky characters that I've come to love spending time with.
An extraordinary supernatural cozy mystery series. An awesome cast of characters and storylines. Amber a witch who grew up in New Jersey and returns to her family home when she finds out that she is actually a witch. Following long as her her familiar friends and family always seem to end up in the middle of a murder or mystery and begin to solve it. Always exciting and didn’t retaining check it out
I do love this series. I was sad to not have a lot of Alec in this book since his and Embers relationship is just starting up and with added increase of Sheriff Nash and Ember working together it just makes you wonder...did she pick the right man. I guess time will see. But still a great read. I can’t wait to learn more about Ivy and what really happened to her...was she bad or not?!?! So much greatness!
I dearly love this series and wish the last 9 books came in a box set much like the first 10 books did, as it makes binging them so much easier.
Each novel is approximately 19 chapters or give or take, so it’s easy to read one or two books a day. And they blend together beautifully, with each one picking up from the events of the previous story.
What I love about this is that they can be enjoyed on multiple levels. Chase has crafted terrific murder mysteries that Ember gets involved with , and the investigations are intriguing and often lead to a conclusion that’s surprising and satisfying.
But it’s the personal relationships and dynamics that drive the series and make the characters so strong and compelling. Each story and book reveals more about Ember, the Rose family and including the seemingly rigid Aunt Hyacinth.
Even the familiar dynamics, like those between Ember and Raoul, aren’t the same as those I’ve come to expect from other writers and fantasy universes. It’s just different and that makes me take even closer note on everything else in this series.
Love it. And binge reading it way too quickly.
A highly recommended book and series to be read in the order they are written in.
Starry Hollow Witches series: Box set 1-10: Magic & Murder, Book 1 Magic & Mystery, Book 2 Magic & Mischief, Book 3 Magic & Mayhem, Book 4 Magic & Mercy, Book 5 Magic & Madness, Book 6 Magic & Malice, Book 7 Magic & Mythos, Book 8 Magic & Mishaps, Book 9 Magic & Maladies, Book 10 —- Magic & Misdeeds (Book 11) Magic & Monsters (Book 12) Magic & Misfits (Book 13) Magic & Misfortune (Book 14) Magic & Marriage (Book 15) Magic & Midnight (Book 16) Magic & Mirrors (Book 17) Magic & Mistletoe (Book 18) Magic & Mutiny (Book 19) - finale
Ember is introduced into the world of gamers when a computer game tournament comes to Starry Hollow. The previous winner is staying with a friend at Palmetto House when he's killed with a cast iron skillet. Ember is shocked by the competitors lack of empathy and determination to continue the tournament to its conclusion. But can she use those investigative journalism skills to bring the guilty party to justice as the Sheriff and his deputy are overrun with tourists?
She's still trying to research Ivy Rose behind the scenes too. Desperately trying to protect Marley against the negative feelings Ivy's wand, grimoire and Book of Souls hold. Can she find a way to open the BOS and finally find out what went wrong and caused Ivy to be stripped of her magic?
Then there's the mystery of the Tree of Bounty, why is it surrounded by such a deep overwhelming feeling of negativity? why doesn't anyone want to talk about it? Ember's on her third mission; to fill in the missing pieces and find a way to free the area of negative energy.. can she survive a confrontation with the whole coven and help them overcome the past.
Wizards are having a tournament which is like when there was this Pokemon one where people would walk around or drive to find when Pokemon would be shown on their phones.
There is, of course, a murder and it seems to be tied in to the tournament. Ember has trouble getting answers from some of the wizards because they are totally focused on the game and nothing else.
Ivy's Book of Shadows also plays a part in the story.
Again, good character development, a rather different type of event that results in the murder and a question of just what is going to happen with ivy's Book of Shadows and Ember trying to learn from it.
Book 11 f this series. Very interesting and many mysteries to be solved. And I still enjoy her crazy familiar - Raoul the raccoon! Ember's relationship with the sexy vampire boss is straining a bit as he doesn't seem to be able to deal with the emtional side. A gaming tournament has come to twon and the influx of tourists has everyone thrilled - until a player ends up dead.
Ember makes an important discovery in connection with her mysterious ancestor. Can Ember stop the madness and identify the killer before the end of the tournament or will it be game over?
Ember is starting to realize, things are not always as they seem in Starry Hollow and that she needs to be careful who she trust. Her magic is coming along and now she has access to other things. On the mystery side, we have a tournament who done it and it takes us to new places. Have to wonder where the love fest is taking us too, feels like Team Wolf or Team Vamp.
I really love that Ember seems to be growing into her potential. I get she barely has time and is super busy, but if she focused less on helping the sheriff, she would have more time to focus on her studies and growth. She 100% needs therapy, especially after what Phillip said to her about her dad being emotionally unavailable, and that's why she picked Alec.
I could really do without the murders to be honest. It's the least interesting part of the book.
Ember is caught in a gaming competition for an article and then tragedy hits
The tournament starts and one of the gamers gets killed. Ember must try and help solve the murder and try and keep it from happening to someone else. She also is seeking to open her ancestors book of shadows, but she needs more info.
Starry Hollow seems to have a lot of murders since Ember Rose came to town. This time a gaming champion bites the dust. Is the killer a jealous gamer, or does a picture worth a thousand words? Better yet, Ember comes ever closer to solving the mystery of Ivy Rose. Miss this one, and you’ve missed the boat!
The author is back on track after the last rather awful book. The characters have returned to more positive versions of themselves and there are far fewer mistakes in grammar and spelling. If you like books about witches, werewolves, magic, vampires and fairies, then this quick read is for you.
Just when I think these books are nothing but fantasy romance and wish fulfillment with a large side of pretty low humor, she brings in a not heavily disguised lesson about the need to deal the past (can you spell CRT?) and I no longer feel guilty about reading it.
OK- so I can't pace myself. Being the descendant of the One True Witch might just get Ember into mischief or even more magical powers. I'm not sure yet so I'm about to binge the rest of this series. I would suggest you start today and keep going. These books are fun, easy to read and at times laugh out loud funny.
Marley had gotten her witch powers in an earlier book. Her mother Ember is very proud of her, even though she having a problem mastering her own powers, she continues to in courage her daughter. Then she finds evidence of her ancestor Ivy Rose. I'm sure you're gonna enjoy this book!!
Another fun mystery in Starry Hollow. Amber & Alec's relationship has lost its spark. I like both Alec & Granger in the beginning books, though I was always partial to Alec. However, ever since the author had Amber choose Alec, I feel that she dialed way back on the spark between them, and their relationship instantly became flat. Which is extremely disappointing.
Although the series is cute, I find there were far too many grammatical errors that better editing should have caught. I know others can simply ignore them ( and trust me, I did try). For me, too many ruin the storyline.
Additionally, after a few books, you realize the plot repeats too closely book after book.
Another good read from this author Annabel Chase. I enjoy reading about the characters in this series. Definitely worth reading and getting to know the characters.
I must’ve missed something because this book had Alec spending the night with Ember... I thought they were taking their time, going to couple’s counseling! What did I miss that led to to leap in their relationship?!
Chase adds more depth to this book with a few situations that are analogous to current events. It was nice seeing a different side to Ember and her standing for a cause that's difficult. I like how these characters have grown especially Raoul.
Exciting wonderfully different story, filled plenty of excitement, danger, surprises, suspense, magic, perseverance and an exciting mystery. I would recommend.this to everyone that enjoys some fantasy, a. great story and wonderful mystery.
Annabel Chase is a terrific writer. She has taken a magical world and added characters that the reader cares about. This series has become one of my favorites. I highly recommend that you read the swries.
Book 11 times the town inundated with gamers....and they are all paranormals of one kind or another. There is humor, murder, mystery, tons of suspects, and the mystery of Ivy Rose continues. Highly entertaining.
Another great instrument in this fascinating series. I love the characters. I love the development of the ongoing storyline within each book. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
The Town is open to a gaming tournament. With the influx of tourist and gamers the Sheriff and Deputy are run off their feet. Alec and Ember are going strong. An enjoyable read.
What could possibly happen next? This series just keeps me guessing and Chase keeps each book fresh by keeping the reader guessing. The characters are interesting and leaves me wondering who can be trusted.
