Pebble Cove is not the sleepy coastal town Rosemary remembers from her childhood. Ghosts are everywhere, and only she can see them.
When Rosemary Woodmere inherits her estranged grandmother's Victorian teahouse, she didn't expect to also inherit a ghost named Asher from the 1920s.
Things get weirder for Rosemary.
Her grandma was supposedly murdered. A body has washed up on the beach and the police suspect her in the man's murder. She's trying to navigate her newfound ability to talk to ghosts. And she doesn't even know the first thing about tea.
Rosemary's experience as a librarian hasn't prepared her to solve a murder, but everyone around her is steeped in suspicion and she has to find the truth before someone else ends up dead.
Eryn Scott is the author of heartwarming cozy mysteries. Her novels feature close friendships and strong families because those are the most important things in her life -- a little humor doesn't hurt either.
She calls the Pacific Northwest home and doesn't plan on changing that anytime soon. Eryn loves to hike, horseback ride, knit, ski, and read. She believes musicals are the greatest thing since lattes, even though she's not particularly good at singing or dancing -- hey, a girl can dream, right?
Her first cozy mystery series, Pepper Brooks, is based on some of the greats in classic literature. Each book features a different author from Shakespeare to Austen. Eryn's newest series is set in a little town called Stoneybrook. The Stoneybrook Mysteries follow local jam-maker Hadley James as she solves mysteries in her town's year-round farmers market. From deceased knitters to sabotaged florists, these crafty citizens keep Hadley and her twin brother, a deputy sheriff, on their toes. Pebble Cove Teahouse Mysteries are great for readers who love a hint of paranormal with their mysteries. These books feature a tiny town tucked between craggy coastline and rocky shores with quirky characters of both the living and non-living variety. Look for new releases from all three of these series in 2022 as well as Eryn Scott's new cozy series.

Rosemary has a unique gift – she can see ghosts. When Rosemary inherits a castle from her grandmother, she just does not understand it – because she and her grandmother have been estranged for long. Then when Rosemary goes to the castle she begins to see ghosts and worse she sees a ghosts which was apparently also seen by her grandmother. Slowly, Rosemary realizes that her grandmother could have been murdered and goes to investigate. Though the plot lagged at times, Rosemary’s characterization was beautiful and made up for it. The ghost was hilarious and the hints dropped about the mystery was also lovely to read. Overall an enjoyable cosy mystery.
A suspenseful book that includes ghosts, murder, and deceit. Seeing ghosts and communicating with them can lead to all sorts of mysteries. Excellent characters and a very strong plot and subplots.
Fun, quick little book about a young lady whose grandmother dies and leaves everything to her. Rosemary is stuck in the past, having not seen her grandmother in ages. Also, her mom is bound and determined to keep Rosemary close and safe. Also also, there’s this whole ghost business. Oh and the ghost let Rosemary know that her grandmother had been murdered. Lots to take in, especially when everyone seems like a suspect!
I don't get it. If this is what a cozy mystery is supposed to be, then count me the fuck out. I hated the MC from the get go- but what really cemented my feelings was when we met the Chief of Police. "This chief reminded me of my father. My need for his approval sky-rocketed." Ew, no thanks. The writing was bland and boring; littered with spelling mistakes. Like it didn't go through any editing process at all. Maybe if it had of, someone would have picked up on how plain and one dimensional the characters were as well. Overall, it's a no from me. Which is a damn shame because I really liked the tea puns and the covers of the series. 😔
4.5 Star review Steeped in Suspicion (Pebble Cove Teahouse Mystery #1) by Eryn Scott
Book one in an exciting new series from Eryn Scott and I could not wait to dive in to it. I love stories about small towns, add in mystery and a few ghosts and I knew I was in for an entertaining read with Steeped in Suspicion set in Pebble Cove.
Rosemary Woodmere inherits her a Victorian teahouse from her estranged grandmother and although she has been able to see ghosts for years, she is surprised when it appears she has also inherited a ghost called Asher.
Rosemary is shocked to learn of her inheritance, after all she is a Librarian, what does she know about running a teahouse? Determined to sell the place she visits Pebble Cove to the affairs in order, but what happens when she begins to suspect that her grandmother was murdered? The more she learns, the more danger she is in and Rosemary leans on the spirits to guide her.
There were numerous twists and turns within the story and I found Rosemary easy to relate to and I liked her. I really enjoyed this cozy mystery and am looking forward to seeing where Ms. Scott takes the series.
Steeped in Suspicion was so much more than I expected. And I really do mean that. It was not just a cozy mystery with a main character--Rosemary--who moves to a small town following her grandmother's death and inherits her tea shop. It is in the small town of Pebble Cove where Rosemary learns that she can see ghosts who can possibly help to solve her grandmother's murder. This book ends up being so charming, as Rosemary ends up finding her place in the small town of Pebble Cove while solving not just her grandmother's murder, but another town mystery as well. I found this so enjoyable and would really love to read on in this series.
Rosemary has returned to Pebble Cove after grandmother passes on and leaves her her house and tea house business. Rosemary and her mother had been estranged from the grandmother for several years over a difference in opinion which now seems silly. Rosemary’s mother wants her to sell the house but on arriving Rosemary remembers all the great times she and her family had there and how they banded together after Rosemary’s father died in an accident in which Rosemary was injured. Her first time in the house she finds a man in the tea shop reading the paper at the same time a neighbour comes to the door to welcome Rosemary. He says some rather rude comments about the woman but she must be used to him as she ignores him. Later, Rosemary goes down to the beach in the back and sees the man again. When he seems to be ignoring her, she taps him on the shoulder and her hand goes right through him! It seems the house has been haunted for a long time and her grandmother never knew, nor anyone else. He tells her that Grandmother was murdered which sets her on a path to find out the who and why. The police are no help as they presumed she died of natural causes. A very entertaining read. I look forward to the next in series.
This was the first book I have read by Eryn Scott and was hooked. Her story telling was brilliant and the description of the characters perfect. It is a beautiful story that deals with so many issues including grief, acceptance and self examination. This book was free on the kindle but as I loved it so much I bought the others in the series.
All of my favorites are included --- possible romance, shop owner detective, recipes, and small town. Rosemary doesn't know it but she see ghosts. Far fetched, sure; however, it's not over done and it is a cozy mystery. Plot moved a little slow; I will read the second book before I pass on the series.
Very much needed a lighter book after reading one that involved a lot of child abuse and this sounded like a good switch. The cover was cool and it seemed like a fun cozy mystery to get into. Rosemary inherits the house from her late grandmother, who she had not seen in years before the grandmother passed away. Things only go downhill from there when Rosemary is accused of murder and it's clear someone does not want to know the truth of her inheritance and her grandma.
Eh. The premise seemed fun but like many cozy mysteries this was a bit of a drag. Although I appreciated the book for not getting too "cutesy" or gimmicky with too much word play or too many puns, I wasn't particularly interested in a supernatural twist and would have personally preferred a straight-up cozy mystery without that. I assume this is something that will appear in other books in the series and overall it made me feel "eh."
That said, I did not guess who the murderer was and I can understand the appeal if you're someone who likes these types of books and also enjoys books with paranormal elements. It thankfully wasn't too heavy (limited to some ghosts...for now...) so if you prefer your cozy mysteries more on the "cozy" rather than "paranormal" this might be a series for you.
Borrow is probably best but if you enjoy these types of reads it might not be a bad purchase to take to the beach or similar chill vacation read.
This is a lovely cozy mystery. It has all the required elements of tea, cats, a perky heroine, a rugged and beautiful setting, and a handsome leading man. The fact he happens to be a ghost is irrelevant, and very plausibly written. Most importantly though, this book has a heroine who doesn’t do incredibly stupid things. Yes, Rosemary gets herself into a few pickles, but unlike many recent cozies, she doesn’t get into trouble due to moronic actions on her part, just due to a series of bad luck. Even more importantly, she gets herself out of trouble again, with help, but with a large portion of her own gumption as well. This was delightful.
I couldn't stop reading this book! It was so good! I absolutely loved Rosemary and Asher! I even loved Meow. Pebble Cove is such a charming town. I wanted to visit the teahouse and take a walk on the beach. I can't wait to dive into the next book! I would definitely recommend this book for fans of cozy mysteries.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
This book has great characters, both alive and dead. I specifically like it because there are few "fillers". Pebble Cove and it's scenery are described, but there are no long winded passages about fashion, food, pets or baking. The characters are believable and fallible.
This is the first book in the A Pebble Cove Teahouse mystery series by Eryn Scott.
I stumbled upon this book as a Kindle recommendation. I am always on the lookout for a new series to follow and discovered that this book rang all my bells.
I totally resonated with Rosemary “Rosie” Woodmere. She had lost her grandmother and had been estranged from her for years. She was only in Pebble Cove since her grandmother had left her the house and teashop in her will. It was the appearance of Asher, a ghost from the 1920’s, who really made this book sing for me. There are long stretches when he is away from the scene as Rosie does her investigating but when he is with her, the book is so much better. I almost wish there was a way to make him a real boy so she could love him. That is the only sad part about this book. You can tell the two have a connection, but they can never do anything more than talk with each other.
Definitely a great new series I suggest you check out! I am obsessed with it.
If you love a good cozy mystery, definitely check this one out.
Steeped in Suspicion was a fun, lighthearted, cosy mystery telling the story of a young woman who inherits her Grandmother's house and tea shop in the quirky seaside town of Pebble Cove. There she meets a motley array of characters including her neighbours, Daphne and Carl, and a ghost who lives in the house, Asher.
When Rosemary discovers her Grandmother was murdered and didn't die of a heart attack as everyone claims she is soon on the trail of her Grandmother's killer with the help of Asher and the ghost of the town's former Mayor, a cat named Meow.
I enjoyed this story. I was in the mood for a quick read that was engaging and Steeped in Suspicion was definitely both of those things.
This was the first story by Eryn Scott I've read, but it won't be the last. I'll definitely read more in the series.
I chose to read this simply because it looked like a quick read which I could fit in before the end of my holiday and it was an amazon freebie! I loved it!!!
It offered me escapism into a world of seaside villages, friendly ghosts and tea rooms. It really is not my usual type of book but it felt like an old fashioned who Dunnit?! It reminded me of the books I would read as a child.
The writing style was great, it was easy to read and you could stop and pick up whenever. I really liked the lead character, I really felt I could gel with her. I don't believe in ghosts at all, but this left me wishing I did and that I could have a ghost friend.
There is a full series to get your teeth into, I have added book 2 on to my to read list!!
eryn scott does it again!! i have been in a big reading slump for the past few weeks so the other day i had picked this book up hoping it would help me. turns out it did indeed help me get out of my slump and i devoured the whole book in less than a day!! i love the setting & asher’s introduction to the story - excited to see more of his interactions with rosemary. i enjoyed rosemary’s arc, seeing how she was able to reconnect with her grandma and find a piece of herself in pebble cove. excited to see how the series progresses!
Even though murders are involved this is a delightful read. Rosemary's grandmother has died and left her home and Tea Room to Rosemary. When she gets to the home in a quaint town on the ocean, she meets Asher and is surprised to discover he is a spirit and she can both hear and see him which most people cannot. Together they pick up clues that her grandmother was murdered. An exciting tale follows!
Right from the start the writing style, descriptions, and characters grabbed me and kept me reading! Very imaginative with the cat and Asher plus bringing to light more than one yet connected crime.
Rosemary's grandmother left her home and tea shop to her in her will. Rosemary hasn't been there for a long time since her mother and grandmother were estranged a long time ago. Pebbled Cove is a small fishing town where Rosemary has fond memories of the grandmother's beach house/tea shop and the ocean until the falling out with her mother. What Rosemary aka Rosie didn't know is she can communicate with ghosts. She finds that out when she returns. Then she believes her grandmother was murdered. But then so were others. Why? The sheriff thinks Rosie killed the guy she found dead on the beach. Rosie also makes friends with Asher- a ghost and Mayor Meow another ghost. Things get pretty complicated, but can she find anyone who will believe her? I enjoyed this story very much and am looking forward to the next one!
I really did enjoy reading this. I liked the mystery and I'm curious to see how she handles Ash in the end. I hope she finds out fully what happened to him and tells him.
