Blood Magic, the second book in the Hidden Magic, is an excellent addition to the series. Jayne Hawke weaves an urban fantasy tale that wholly captures the attention and immerses her readers and listeners. The premise of the storyline is fantastic, fast-paced, and wonderfully composed, packed with suspense, action, paranormal creatures, magic, and mayhem. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The characters are absolutely great, well-rounded, interesting, and capable. I loved the pack dynamics Hawke created, and how Kit had to face-off with the bounty hunters.

Hannah Hart and Edward Fox's narration was spot-on, both captured the nuances of the characters and in the intensity of the plot, breathing life into the story. All in all, this was a highly enjoyable audiobook and definitely worth the listen.

Kit and Matt finally have a pack they can call family. As Kit learns about her magic and finds clues about her mother, she has difficult decisions to make. Its not easy for this rag tag pack of misfits, but they make it work. And, along the way find a new pack mate, an elf. Assassins are after Kit, her secret is out and everyone wants a claim. A coven of witches are using blood magic to kill, not just the low life people, but the rich and powerful people as well. Its up to Kit and Ethan, along with the rest of the pack to save the isles.
Need better editing on this book.. its distracting from the story.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. Kit finally learns what it feels like to be on the other side of bounty. She, or her pack, just doesn't like it much, especially when an elf assassin attaches himself to the pack. Blood drained bodies are turning up all over town and it's the pack's job to find those responsible. Kit just can't get a break. Between the well written characters, the fast moving plot and the narration that brings it to life, you'll keep listening longer than you intended.

Pretty predictable.

I thought I’d like this series, but even though the characters are okay, and the storylines sound interesting, I’m not connecting to them. I don’t know whether that is because the book is so short and there is not a lot of depth to the characters and the plot has been streamlined. If you took this, added another 100 pages and fleshed out the characters and dug deeper into the narrative, then this might have been more to my taste.

Not as enjoyable as the first

This book though of some interest, was dragging. The story line, the romance built up just kept dragging on with no rapture until the very last few pages of the book when there was the fight and the heroine showed her badass. I hope the next book picks up

Excellent

Loved it. This time the lack needs to defeat a coven of witches that need blood to survive. Kit and Ethan move closer to a relationship and an elf wants to join the pack. Surprisingly humorous at times and action packed always. Great writing and a wonderful cast of characters.

2.5 stars.
This one was vey slow. Lots of time spent by the FMC talking about how able she is without doing anything to back up her assertion. Very little action until the final scene which was way bloodier than it needed to be. It actually bordered on gross.
I still like the premise of the book but it lost a lot of traction from book 1 to book 2.

Great story

Another great story about Kit from Jayne Hawke. The world she's made is recognizable, but different from anything else I've read. The story pulls you in, but the cast definitely keeps you hooked.

😻

I’m enjoying this series quite a lot. Hope they find her mom or at least what happened to her soon. As well as her father. Those mysteries are the type I live watch come together!

I enjoy the characters and the world building. Wish the editor had done a better job. 🙁 Will NOT be continuing with this series.

Quick paced

It was quick paced with little development into the antagonist. Two new characters were introduced so I'm interested to see where that goes.

Fun entertaining read

Action packed, quick read. A few editing issues but overall this didn't detract from the story. Enjoyable fun read. Looking forward to the next book.

Love it

A few typos but not enough to distract. Very unique story and I have read a lot about the fae, shifters and magic.

A great read that just needs a bit of tightening

It would have been a brilliant read if it had just been a bit sharper, a bit tighter. However it is still worthy of a 4^. The characters are growing, adding to their numbers and developing new skills. Their task now is to keep her alive. Word has spread that there is a half dark witch, half God around and everyone is after her. Assassins are crawling out of the woodwork. Then there is the problem that someone or something is draining the blood out of fae and half breeds. The question is who? Also they seem to have picked up an elf that wants to join the pack even though his job was to assassinate her. Will finding her mother's books help and if so, where does she start looking? Who has put a bounty on her head? Will they be able to stop the killings?

So, just finished book 2. Like the first, it wraps up the current threat, but leaves lots of threads outstanding. You aren’t forced into the next book like with the massive cliffhangers, but it keeps your curiosity up to WANT to read the next book.

Kit’s relationship with Ethan is slowing moving forward. She’s learning more about her mom and her magics. We learn a little bit about the pack, and their history, but Ethan’s is still mostly unknown. A little more of the politics is mixed in. And a (possibly) slightly insane elf is now in the mix.

Will definitely move on to book 3!

Good.

As Kit learns more about her heritage and magic, she is pitted against a mysterious group of beings who take the blood of their victims, and a series of assassins attempting to kill her.
The series continues well, and I admit to being a little surprised that Kit and Ethan’s romance doesn’t progress faster, but not terribly disappointed.
It’s an enjoyable series in the Urban Fantasy field, if not terribly good at explaining the world it’s built around, it is still an interesting world.

This series is just getting better. The pack is a band of outfits and someone new is trying to join their group, one who also tried to collect Kit as a bounty at first. This world is becoming richer, as Kit learns more about her mother and father as well as the impact on her. It makes Kit more interesting as she learns to deal with two types of magic. I can't wait to see where this series goes.

I struggled to get through this book and disliked Ethan even more. He is so nice, it's almost like he is a villain in hiding and his only role in book is to be rich eye candy that is also too sweet.
I almost found myself hoping Sin was going to be another love interest.
There were a few pages where I even went back to try and understand something but it was too disjointed for me. I might be giving the rest of this series a pass.

Sort of

An inbetween offering. The story you have that just keeps the appetite bite at bay. Hope there is a little more gristle to follow.
