Carried Away

Rate this book
Sometimes going back home requires a big leap forward.

Carrie Anderson---truth seeker, storyteller, journalist-at-large---is bad at social media and great at getting herself into trouble.

When she’s fired from her dream job for an ill-advised tweet, she has no other choice but to return to the town where she grew up with her head hung low.

It’s temporary after all. She can work at her family’s bed and breakfast, fix her finances, and get back to her life and home in Los Angeles.

There’s only one not-so-little problem…the grouchy ex-NHL star making her rethink what home means.

Jake Turner---great at hockey, bad at people---is not a happy man.

Haunted by his past, all he wants is to disappear into obscurity, to get away from the scrutiny of the press he’s been under since going pro at nineteen. But when the press finds him, disappearing is no longer an option.

Worse yet, the same journalist he’s trying to avoid is making him reconsider whether being forgotten is what he really wants.

USA Today Bestselling author P. Dangelico loves romance in all forms, furry creatures, the NY Jets (although she’s reconsidering after this season), and to while away the day at the barn (apparently she does her best thinking shoveling horse poop). What she’s not enamored with is referring to herself in the third person and social media. Although she was born in Milan Italy, she’s been Jersey Strong since she turned six.

"In my heels, our bodies line up perfectly. Pelvises kissing, my curves buffering the hard planes of his muscles.I'm surrounded by heat and comfort the likes of which I've never felt before."

“ And just when I think I can’t possibly love this man anymore than I already do, he makes a liar out of me.”

Carrie Anderson has been fired from her dream job as a journalist due to an insensitive tweet. Hitting rock bottom she is forced to move back to upstate New York and help her father with his B&B. While traveling she gets stuck in a snowstorm and is rescued by the hero.

Jake Turner is an ex-NHL player seeking privacy from the press after a scandal ended his career. Little does he know that the woman he rescues from a snowstorm is exactly what he is running from.

Jake was the swoon-worthy hero as the gorgeous and grouchy ex-athlete. I really enjoyed his character. Carrie had to grow on me. I thought she was crass after the tweet she made and I almost didn’t finish the book, but I am glad I did. Her character eventually blossomed and we could see more of her personality.

This was a sweet small town romance. Pretty much angst free. It is definitely a slow burn and I wish there was more physical interaction between the couple especially with such a hot hero like Jake. It was a quick read with some entertaining secondary characters. Not a lot of depth but enjoyable nonetheless.

Nice and sweet, but something was missing.

Subtlety?
Grace?
Smoothness?

Idk. The characters went through all the stages of relationship, but it didn’t come naturally to them. It felt purposeful as if the author was fitting them from one phase to the next after a certain period of time in order to move along their romance.

I suppose it’s like a paragraph without conjunctions or sentence connectors.

“Subject is not a total prick. I repeat, subject is not a total prick. Rescues evil cats from trees and coaches young boys with a soft touch.”

I was here because of the grumpy H, and I liked the facade of grouchiness with which he did all the swoony things. I just couldn’t connect with him. I wanted to crack his head open and see what he was thinking. Unfortunately, we didn’t get his POV.

“Life is a journey, someone much wiser than me once said. And if that’s true, then maybe mine is destined to have few more twists and turns than most.”

The h was an overall positive person. I was opposed to the work she did in the city, but I liked the kind of journalist she’d become by the end of the book. I thought she was overreacting with her ‘pizza face’ insecurity. She’d had ten years to come to terms with it and not let it get to her. I guess some insecurities are more deep rooted than others.

The situation with her parents (mother), on the other hand, that I could understand. She didn’t do anything I wouldn’t do given the same circumstances. I’d loved some more exploration, but I could accept how it was resolved. Grandma Nan and Jackie the sister are my favorite side characters.

“Anymore chemistry and we’d burn down the house if we ever slept together.”

The chemistry was there alright. However, it was more a kindling than a burning hot flame. Their banter was fun and witty, but it was always cut short. I wanted them to get more argumentative or more . . . heated.

To sum up, it was enjoyable but I wasn’t fully carried away.

P.S. There was a mention of CoVid near the end, and it threw me off. I couldn’t tell if they were dealing with it or if the setting was in a future CoVid free world. Also, thanks to Lien (@liendienmeo) for bringing this book to my attention.

P. Dangelico is a slow burn and grumpy hero expert. She’s my go to when I need to roast in delicious tension and swoon over the grumpy hero who’s anything but that when the reader and heroine gets to know him. In Carried Away the grumpy hero Jake saves Carrie from freezing to death. Immediately there’s the tension but most definitely also awesome chemistry. These two feeds off of another which leads to some funny scenes and dialogue.
They slowly get to know each other. They both have experienced events that’s affected them tremendously and shaped them into the people they’re today. I just adored them both and together they were amazing.
Carried Away has some terrific secondary characters. Carrie’s grandmother Nan is the wise one and yet she delivers some laughs too. Doesn’t hold back and speaks her mind. Carrie’s sister Jackie who’s more than a sister. The teasing and love between them is obvious.

Carried Away is such a feel good, fabulous slow burn romance. Low on angst but filled with all the feels. I couldn’t help but smile and of course swoon. This group of characters provided the perfect escape I needed. Once again this author delivered and gave me the burn I expected.

I read the blurb and initially thought this book was a sports-romance but it's not. Not really.

This is a family-centric, enemies to lovers romance.

I love their witty banter, their dynamic... how they eventually fell in love throughout the story. It's has a dash of angst but not frustrating. It was funny and sexy, and all kinds of swoony.

I devoured this overnight. I fell in love with the story right after the first chapter, and just couldn't put it down.

I definitely recommend! Jake Turner will make you have heart eyes flying all-over.

Carrie Anderson is a reporter/ journalist living her dream in L.A. She's generally a pretty positive person, but when she posts something on her social media that some consider questionable, she finds herself suddenly fired and feeling devastated. She's now unemployed, broke, homeless, and out of options. This is not how she envisioned her life going. With no other choices, after eight years away, she has to return to her hometown. Lake Placid, New York triggers all kinds of feelings she'd put behind her, but hopefully she can go back to California soon.

She plans to work at her family's B&B, and get her life sorted out. This will only be temporary, and it will give her time to figure out her next step. What she doesn't count on at home is an intense, grouchy ex-NHL player with a less than sparkling personality.

IMG_3013(1)

Jake Turner is a gruff, standoffish guy whose life completely changed four years ago. Now he's a loner who wants to be left alone, but when he crosses paths with Carrie, he can no longer disappear into the background, and eventually isn't sure he even wants to anymore.

At first Carrie doesn't know what to think of this mysterious stranger. He's full of attitude, and she labels him the hot scrooge of the mountains. She's instantly attracted to the aplha he-man she can hardly tolerate, but they are both lonely, and she quickly develops an unhealthy crush as she gets to know him better. As she continues to lean on him, and real feelings grow, she begins to wonder if he could be the once-in-a-lifetime love she's been searching for?

Carried Away is a fantastic, new standalone contemporary romance by P. Dangelico. I really enjoyed this book and loved Jake! He's super swoony and his beautiful heart was such a pleasant surprise. Carrie is funny, quirky and unpredictable, and this couple had amazing chemistry and fabulous banter. It's a heartwarming story with just the right amount of emotion and all the feels!

Carried Away was a beautiful and refreshing read. I couldn't finish it fast enough yet I was so distraught when it ended. This feel good romance had me swooning and falling in love.

IMG_20200616_003525_853

Carrie has been fired from her job and has to return home after been gone for many years. She has vowed to only return home when she has won numerous accolades and has made a name for herself. Upon her return she gets stuck in a snow storm and has to be rescued by someone she refers to as a 'Neanderthal'. Jake is a man a very few words and is a new resident in Lake Placid. He keeps to himself and is a closed book. They don't get off on a good note and each meeting is even more disastrous until one night Jake points out something really unexpected. Carrie discovers just how much she is attracted to this Neanderthal and the sexual tension gets kicked up a notch during every interaction. Carrie's time in her home town is just temporary and Lake Placid has become Jake's safe haven. She is also a reporter who hunts stories and Jake wants to be away from the press especially after an accident that has left them harassing him.

There’s something deeply satisfying about discovering someone I thought was a self-centered ogre is actually a good person.

Jake has to be one the sweetest and swooniest heroes I have had the pleasure of reading. He was so unlike anyone I have read before and that is why I found this book refreshing. He was the one that took the risk first and made his feelings known. He was so caring and soft which I found so endearing. He opened up and became so transparent with his feelings. Discovering all the different sides to Jake was the highlight of the story for me. I just love a story where the hero falls first. I am so in love with this book and the characters. They took a while to get to know each other and eventually fall. Carrie made me laugh with her comments and she became an all star in my book when she defended Jake. He did make me angry towards the end–why do guys rush to conclusions?! But he is adorable and totally redeemable because of his past actions.

“Carrie, not only can I––check your contract––but I have to.”He points to the ceiling. “Order came from up above.”
“God wants me fired?”

I cracked up for this line!

I would have liked the ending to be longer and more drawn out but I am a sucker for a P. Dangelico book! I'm always on a look out for her new books and count down the days until I can get my hands on it. So I guess the waiting and anticipation for the next book begins.

Carrie Anderson’s morning isn’t going so hot. After waking up and finding a tweet she posted the night before has gone viral and been RATIOED in the most hellish way possible, a last minute meeting with her boss doesn’t bode well for the rest of her day. Out of options and out of cash, she heads for home and crashes head first into Jake Turner.

What do you expect out of life, Anderson? Because I’m afraid you’re gonna be sorely disappointed.”

Who needs the NHL when you can live like a hermit at an Inn on three lakes in upstate New York? Jake Turner does the grouchy, brooding, loner thing like nobody’s business. He’s there to paint and be a closed off asshole. Not a friend. Unfortunately for Jake, Carrie doesn’t give him much of a choice and soon Pizzaface and big gay Spanish Santa form a weary truce.

I thought you saved me so you could make beef jerky out of me.

I know I say this every time and I know It comes as a surprise to absolutely no one, but I’m a huge P. Dangelico fan. Like a tween girl waiting in line for her first Twenty One Pilots concert kind of fan. Color me shocked when I loved every minute I got to spend with Jake and Carrie.

Both characters were bruised and emotionally battered in a way I didn’t see meshing at first and to that end, they took their time warming up to one another. The banter between the two, however, took no time to get going and we’re privy to some awesome bits of conversation that manage to remain light hearted yet revealing at the same time. Bit by bit, Carrie and Jake began to expose more of their vulnerabilities to each other and the relationship between the two grew naturally.

I would love, and I do mean LOVE, for an extra 50-75 pages to magically add themselves to Carried Away. It’s not that there’s a particular aspect of the story I find lacking, more that I feel all parts of the story could benefit from just a little bit more. The story didn’t feel underdeveloped, but it was lacking some of the intensity I count on from this author.

If loving P. Dangelico books are wrong, you gotta know I don’t want to be right. Carried Away has all the snark, heart and kick ass writing I’ve come to expect, along with a super grumpy hot piece of man. The brooding ones do it for me every time.

Grumpy hero alert, grumpy hero alert! I repeat, GRUMPY HERO alert!

Oh how I love them!

Carrie Anderson (h)
I’ll admit, Carrie and I had a rocky start. She was a little overwhelming at first and nothing like I expected. The "reporter"-part is probably why I thought I’d get a more serious h. Someone who’s always after her next groundbreaking story and then hit the jackpot when she finds out about the big superstar next door. This is not the case here and thank god for that. It would’ve been a little too cliché for me then, so I’d definitely call this a WIN!

Back to Carrie. She’s impulsive, likes to jump to conclusions that I guess were intended to be funny but kinda missed it with me at first but hey! She grew on me eventually and I came to like her quite a bit. If I had to compare her to previous heroines of Dangelico’s, I’d say she gives me some Amber vibes from Sledgehammer.

Jake Turner (H)
It’s weird. I usually like dual POV’s more than first-person only because who doesn’t want to get some insight into the H’s mind, right? Especially if you can’t figure him out at all because he gives no indication whatsoever. Well, Dangelico’s heroes are the exception. I absolutely love that the heroes are so unreadable and only give the smallest indications that they might like the heroine. It’s just super appealing to me and Jake is such a lovable guy under his grouchy facade, I really, really, REALLY liked him!

The chemistry between the two wasn’t as overwhelming as I know it could be but definitely enough for me to root for them. As always, P. Dangelico writes delicious slow-burn romances and I’m here for it. There were some small things that I wasn’t completely satisfied with but overall this was a solid read for me!

This was one of those reads where I found myself smiling the entire way through. I LOVED IT!

We meet Carrie right when her world is spiraling. She's lost her dream job, has to leave her dream city and move back to Lake Placid, NY. The bad luck continues to snowball (no pun intended) when she ends up stranded due to a car accident in inclement snowy weather. Luckily Jake is there to rescue her as the knight in shining armor that he is. Jake is a not officially retired star hockey player that is trying to find himself after a tragic accident. Each of them on their own journey of self discovery when their paths intersect and sparks fly.

It's such a wonderfully written story and I couldn't put it down. If you love a good romcom with high tension, I highly recommend! The book reminded me of K.A. Tucker's Wild series (not by the story line but the way it is written) so if you enjoyed that series, you'll love this!

P. Dangelico is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is spectacular; the words consume the reader, and it's hard to put her books down. This book was no different, and when the cover was revealed, I knew I would love this book, just from that gorgeous cover!

Carrie Anderson has been fired from her dream job and therefore travels back home to her hometown to help her dad and nan with the family bed and breakfast. Moving home does not go as planned when she ends up on the side of the road, her car drowned in bunches of snow. After almost freezing to death, a man rescues her, however her saviour turns out to be the biggest jerk.

Jake Turner wants to be left alone. An ex-NFL superstar, now hated by the world, has escaped to Lake Placid to disappear. And then the reporter appears, Carrie Anderson. She's everything he doesn't need right now, or so he thinks.

I absolutely loved Jake and Carrie. They were amazing characters and their chemistry was fire; especially with Jake being such a grouch. If you're looking to read a sweet, small-town romance with the perfect dose of steam, this one is for you.

You had me at grumpy hero. This book wasn't anything like I thought it would be, and that was refreshing.
Carrie Anderson is down on her luck, just fired from her job, she returns home to live with her dad. Jake Turner is a hockey player that is running away from the media, living under the radar after a terrible accident. Jake has every right to be grumpy, but Carrie gets under his skin like no one else. He doesn't believe that he deserves love because of his past and the secrets he is keeping. In his experience, no one stays. Carrie is a free spirit and when the two of them collide you see the chemistry flowing in waves. He needed someone to show him that he was worth it, someone to show him they would stay. It just goes to show you that you might find your one and only love when you aren't looking at all.
There were some issues that weren't "tidied up" and there were also some plot holes, but I chose to overlook them and focus on just the relationship between the couple. I loved Jake so much that I rounded up to 4 stars because of it. It is nice to read a romance that doesn't involve talking about how much of a player the male MC used to be because he was a hockey player. I really enjoyed reading this book because it was light on angst but not on feels and the chemistry between the two jumped off the page for me.

2.5/3 I-blame-my-expectations ⭐️s

After You Can Have Manhattan, I stalked this author something fierce. I checked her profile regularly, just waiting for her next book. Wanting more.

Accurate picture of me the day this book was announced

And when I finally got my hands on it

And when I read it

You guys have no idea how much I wanted to love this book.
It ticked all the boxes :
Grumpy hero ✔️
Grumpy hero ✔️
Grumpy hero ✔️
(there's just something about grumpy heroes 😩)
Quirky heroine ✔️
Small town romance ✔️
Kick-ass grandma and sister
(don't you just love a kick-ass grandma? 😈)

“Subject seems ornery,” I mutter sotto voce. “Not much for verbal communication…” The way he looks at me comes to mind: apathy with a mix of annoyance. “Plenty of non-verbal, however. He glares like a champ.”

And it had a strong start, Carrie Anderson has been fired from her dream job in her dream city and is now forced to move back home to the town that wasn't too kind on her as a kid. Her family owns a bed and breakfast and she'll be helping them run it until she gets back on her feet.
Her moving home coincides with a snow storm and she ends up on the side of the road, snowed in and freezing to death. That's when our hero, Jake Turner saves her life and takes her to his farmhouse, where she's convinced he'll turn her into beef jerky. Because Jake Turner, the ex-NHL player hiding from his past, is a grumpy jerk. Sigh ❤️

You're thinking this is PERFECT, right?? And it is!
Except it's NOT

My biggest issue with the book is that the romance and the progression of their relationships felt forced . There was no natural progression, no smooth development.
It felt as if the author had this convo with her characters :
author: yes, you two are at this stage now
characters: but...but...how? when?
author: you are where i want you to be, wait no. let's take it to the next level
characters: *scrambling to do her bidding with no subtlety whatsoever*

I wanted more. More chemistry. More interactions. More getting to know the hero. More exploration of the heroine issues with her mom. More time with them. More them. More chapters. MORE.

“Subject is not a total prick. I repeat, subject is not a total prick. Rescues evil cats from trees and coaches young boys with a soft touch.”

Again, maybe this didn't work for me because I had such high and unreasonable expectations. Wouldn't be the first time they did me dirty.

It was still an enjoyable read and far better than most, because the author's writing is really amazing.
There are tons of positive reviews, so really, don't take my fuck-OTT-expectations word for it and try this for yourself.

A fiery and emotional romance that will melt your heart!

Ever since reading Nothing But Trouble, I’ve become addicted to anything written by this author! I didn’t even know what this book was about, I just knew I had to read it. And the author does not disappoint!

Carried Away is a slow burn, strangers-to-enemies-to-lovers romance with an undercurrent of humor and raw, heartfelt emotions. The intriguing dynamic between Carrie and Jake was pure entertainment. Their relationship evolves smoothly throughout the story line, layering the slow burn tempo with anxiousness and anticipation. Will they? Won’t they? I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough to find out what situation they’d find themselves in next.

Carrie and Jake each have their own inner turmoil. Their problems are seem quite opposite, but deep down they share a common bond. Both have a past they’d rather forget, but it’s that same past that keeps resurfacing and opening old wounds that never healed. The emotion and conflict within the pages of the story gives us two people just living day-by-day instead of living life to its fullest. And as much as these two clashed, the chemistry between them couldn’t be denied and they were exactly what each other needed.

Carried Away is a touching, swoony, and highly enjoyable quick read! It’s easily the type of book you can read from cover to cover in one sitting. The outstanding writing and the low-angst, comedic story line is the perfect summer read!

Carried Away felt like a series of missed connections that unfortunately left me a little short of carried away...at least not as much I hoped. PD is far too talented to hate it or flat out disliked it.
description
Still. I can't quite ignore the feeling it read like I missed a chapter or two in the first 1/3 that would lay the substantial groundwork for Carrie & Jake's connection. It truly was...
description
A few other times, I felt right when momentum was actually gaining traction, a bucket of cold water was dumped all over the moment & it was over.
OR I'm like Mina, my expectations are still way too damn high after You Can Have Manhattan as well. Cause I absolutely adore that & I just didn't find the same continuity here. But be that as it may, it wasn't all problematic. I kinda liked it. I just needed more. (Except her mom. I do not accept that 'resolution'.)

I LIKED THIS!

It was a light read and not a lengthy book. The romance was NICE and SWEET.

I WANTED MORE FROM THIS BOOK THOUGH.
Jake’s point of view would have been helpful because I couldn’t really connect with him that much and Carrie was a likable character but I also wanted more from her. I did enjoy some parts more than others and I liked how sweet Jake was at times.

I couldn’t rate this a 4 star and higher because my level of enjoyment of this book compared to other books I’ve read lately wasn’t that high. I did like it though.

"Life is a journey, someone much wiser than me once said. And if that's true, then maybe mine is destined to have few more twists and turns than most."

I love P. Dangelico's stories very much and when i found out about this one, i wanted like crazy to dive into her new world.
This story was so sweet with Paola's trademark slow burn romance and lots of funny and steamy moments.
But hey, there wasn't only rainbows and unicorns in here. Our heroes were having their own troubles to face but the way that they were handling things were so delicious.
Our main couple was amazing together and between them and the secondary characters, there wasn't a dull moment in here.

"Two loners who found someone to need."

Carrie is losing her dream job because of a darn tweet. She just told the truth and the result is to change her whole life because of that reason.
Now, she is forced to return back in her hometown after 8 years away and to work in the family business... but she is determined to earn her life back and to live her big adventure.
What she's not expecting is to meet Jake Turner, a grumpy man that is saving her from freezing to death and who is unnerving her is the most unexpected ways.

"My mouth is a runaway train right now. When something piques my interest nothing can stop it, and Jake Turner definitely piques my interest.

Jake used to be a hockey god, but tragedy made him to get closed off people and press and to seek solitude...
He doesn't need a noisy reporter to breathing down his neck all the time with million of questions, but she is always there to provoke him with her words and actions...
He just wants to be left alone and to live his life on peace. But everything are changing from the moment that Callie is entering his life...

"I want to be left alone, Anderson. That's all I want."

I enjoyed very much this story...
Jake and Callie were so lovely together... They had some seriously funny moments and swoon worthy ones...
From the first moment, there was a connection between them. A connection that they both tried to deny, but who was still there, lingering between them...
I loved Carrie and her crazy thoughts... And i loved Jake and his big heart....
I love them. Period.

"Despite that he's not at all what I would pick for myself, despite that I'm leaving and he's staying, despite that he's barely civil most of the time, I think I'm falling for him."

Also the secondary characters in herewere deliciously hilarious and sweet...
I loved Nanny and her cat....
I loved Gene and his obsession with Zelda...
I loved Jackie and the way she was seeing things...
This story was the sweetest and i can not wait to read more from Mrs. Dangelico!!!
Her stories are always getting into me!!!

"You still think you have to live in a big city to have a great adventure?"

I felt like this author went through a checklist of how she wanted this to go....but neglected to refine it so it'd flow better. The enemies portion was actually good, I like a grumpy hero so that helped.....but the transition to lovers was awkward as hell.
Jake as a guy in the book was good, I giggled at his grumpiness and short answers..... Jake as a hero???? Meh! He walked away at the SLIGHTEST thing! I mean dude you're this big strong man fight for your girl.....grip that neck and get busy dammit! Didn't you watch the movie too?? Did you lose your Alpha card?? *do better man*
The h was ok, I liked her well enough but her claiming love for this man confused me because the author didn't lead me to that love...more like she tripped me and I fell face first. The h was bullied as a kid and still had a few issues including issues from her mom abandoning the family for a lover
Which brings me to the mom...this was like a teeny tiny secondary romance maybe??? as the mom and dad who'd been apart for years reunited and it was just so beautiful and heartwarming man......uh nope! That bitch cheated and left her family.....forgiveness doesn't live here anymore! #bitchbye #sorrynotsorry ,
The situation that led to the separation( why the hell is this always a thing?) Was very predictable and the H reacted as I'd come to expect i.e by leaving.....dude grow a pair would ya?!!

All in all not a bad book just a bit too meh for my tastes at the moment..... I really rated this 2 stars but because the H was celibate for years and the author didn't have him drowning in pussy imma bump this one way up.

******** Massive problem - what the hell is with the sexy times??? Lstetn if I get good chemistry between a big grumpy giant and his woman I expect some back slamming sex ok.....not this bs!

No cheating
H/h both celibate for years
Slight OM drama as her ex boss who she once had a crush on returned to offer her her job back.....the H reacted by walking away(😂just had to throw that in again)

„Give me a reason to stay.”

P. Dangelico is a master of slow-burn romances and with Carried Away she had proved it once again. This story was the sweetest journey, full of tension and a bit of angst. I laughed, swooned and blushed during this read. This story is perfectly balanced, because on the one hand it’s full of emotions, and yet you read it with a lightness. It’s a perfect summer read!

I love me some broody, moody hero and Jake is definitely one of those. Built like a mountain, always scowling and grunting- you know the type. But Jake is also kindhearted, caring and loving. It took time and patience to get through the high walls this troubled man surrounded himself with, but the affectionate and attentive lover he was inside was worth it.

Carrie is a heroine that I had to get used to. At first I was a bit disappointed in her impulsiveness and I considered her slightly immature, but over time the girl managed to redeem herself and I fell in love with her character. She’s quirky, funny and she has a big heart.

Although at first these two were not very warm and fuzzy to each other, the chemistry was definitely palpable. Watching their relationship evolve and change into repressed need kept me at the edge of the seat. And when they finally gave in to the passion, the heat was spilling out of the pages! Noah and Carrie were incredibly hot together and I couldn't get enough of them.

This story is about finding new reality when everything is falling down. It’s about reevaluating life and finding a new way to happiness. Jake and Carrie both had some things to overcome and together they healed each other and they’ve come to terms with the past. P. Dangelico told their story beautifully and I loved reading all about it!

“I promise. I will never do anything to hurt you…”

One of the perks of reading is finding a good romance. But knowing that is a book by P. Dangelico is guarantee that the story you’re about to get lost is going to make you fall in love with the characters; she has a way with words that not only you can see yourself in the place she’s describing, but the emotions her stories triggers are everything you want to feel in a romance book.

After being dismissed from what she thought was her dream job, Carrie finds herself going back to the only place she vowed to never return to, the place that almost broke her, and now she is working for her dad in Comfort Cottages. But she only has one goal in mind, to go back to L.A., but such is her luck that the man who she thought almost as a creature of the woods, is everything she needs to rethink about what she truly wants in life.

Jake’s life hasn’t been easy, and one dreadful accident changed everything he was and after being at the top, he wants nothing to do with that life again. He wants to be away, to get lost and never be found…but the moment he saw Carrie, he knew that his life was about to change again…and maybe after all this time he might want to be found.

I loved this book, Carried Away is just another winner in the romance genre; this book has the exact measure of love, lust, and drama. Get lost in Carrie and Jake’s love story, it is so worth it.

This is my first book by P. Dangelico and I loved it! Jake Turner is a broody former pro hockey player with a traumatic past. Carrie is fired from her job in LA and moves home to Lake Placid with her tail between her legs where she meets Jake. I loved their interactions and how they were always there for each other, drawn like magnets. Their journey to HEA is not free of turmoil but their love and respect for each other always brings them closer. Carrie’s banter and Jake’s facial expressions while they tried to fight their attraction and feelings had me chuckling and smiling. This is a bit of a slow burn, tension filled, slightly angsty contemporary romance. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Carried Away is a breath of fresh air and literally swept me off my feet. Ms. Dangelico has a knack for writing romantic comedies with laugh out loud punch lines and witty banter and this book is no exception. I love Jake and Carrie’s character dynamic and hysterical interactions along with the secondary characters (Nan was my favorite and stole the show). Ms. Dangelico does an excellent job of weaving these characters together which leads to a very engaging storyline.

Carrie found herself returning to her home town and to her father’s cozy hotel/cottages in the Adirondack Mountains in New York after she’s fired from her job as a reporter in Los Angeles. Life wasn’t easy for Carrie growing up since her mother left her and her older sister, Jackie when they were young. She was awkward, quirky, unpopular and felt less than beautiful. While she rose above some of her past issues, returning to her home town definitely brought out her insecurities. When she meets Jake, who’s also staying at the hotel and is a sexy as sin, broody mountain man looking ex hockey player (that beard!!), things really get funny and interesting. Jake is haunted by his past and just wants to be left alone. I love their hilarious encounters and even when they’re going at each other, I could feel their chemistry and pent up sexual tension.

I devoured Carried Away as it is fast paced and the plot is direct and to the point which couldn’t have pleased me more. I hope everyone gets “Carried Away” in this story like I did.

Give me more P Dangelico! This book was a cute romance and I enjoyed every minute of it. This follows Carrie and Jake. Carrie returns home to live with her dad after being fired from her job and Jake is grumpy yet hot hockey player hiding from the media. Carrie and Jake couldn’t be more perfect for each other. Jake felt he was worthy of love from anyone and Carrie was the girl to change that. They couldn’t be more different from each other, but they made the best match. Their chemistry and connection was undeniable and there from the start. There were some tiny things missing when it came to this story, which kept me from rating this higher, but overall I loved the romance and relationship in this story and I’m very excited to read more from P. Dangelico!

*Thank you P Dangelico and ValentinePR for the opportunity to read this arc!*

Carried Away is a refreshing read for me. Carrie is a journalist and heading back to her home town after being fired from her job. Jake is a former professional hockey player hiding from the public in a resort on Lake Placid.

From the moment they met I loved the interactions between Carrie and Jake. They had such a fun banter going between them. There was some tension and you could feel the chemistry between them. I loved the two of them together. Jake, I loved him so much. There was so much more to him than just a former professional hockey player. He had a rough life growing up and experienced loss as an adult that sent him into hiding. He comes across as gruff, but there is a sweet side to them that you can’t help but love. Carrie on the other hand, she took some time to get used to. At the start of the book there was just something about her that kind of rubbed me the wrong way, however, as the story progressed, I enjoyed her as a character.

Carried Away has drama, angst, heat, sweet moments and some moments that will make you laugh.

What a delightfully refreshing read! P. Dangelico is one of those authors whose work I can one-click without hesitation, knowing I'm in for a good romance. Whether it's something angsty or something light, she's great at putting her readers through a whole range of emotions. This one is definitely on the lighter side - it's got some humor, some grumbling from our hero, a great slow burn, and a small town feel that's kind of charming. Shorter and sweeter than her usual, I finished this in one sitting and enjoyed it the whole way through. And while I really, REALLY wish this had been dual perspective, we got to know our hero well enough to see his warm, loving heart.

The story follows Carrie, a reporter who has spent the last four years working hard for very little appreciation. When she gets fired over a social media post that's deemed insensitive, she returns home to the Adirondacks to stay with family. Caught driving in a snowstorm on the way, a Good Samaritan rescues her - though she's not quite sure of his motives. He's moody and a little broody, so it's difficult to know exactly what he's thinking. The two clash until they get to know each other better, but once they start peeling back the layers, the connection becomes obvious.

There's very little angst, and while it does touch on a few heavy subjects, it doesn't linger on them. I'll confess that this wasn't the homerun Dangelico's books usually are for me - I definitely considered a 4-star rating - but there's also nothing major that bugged me either. It was a light, easy read from start to finish and there's no doubt that it had me turning the pages. Honestly, my complaint about the book is that I wanted more - more insight into our hero, more time spent on the relationship, more resolution to a few threads that remained untouched at the end. But that's really a compliment to Dangelico's writing, because she's given me every reason to have high expectations of her work in past. If you're looking for something light and a little funny, then this will certainly satisfy that craving. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC via Valentine PR (then purchased it for my collection) and am voluntarily leaving a review of this small town romance.

Almost from the start, I knew I wouldn't rate this book with more than 3 ⭐️ because of the main character, Carrie. She was childish, kind of selfi and she annoyed me to no end. But I kept thinking I would like the grumpy dude she falls in love with. And I did, at least for about 90% of the story.
But there were other things that I didn't like (besides Carrie):
1. The pace of the story was way too slow.
2. There were some gramatical mistakes. I normally don't notice it, because english isn't my first language (so even when I do, I wonder if I'm write). But in here they were kind of obvious, specially once she says something "costs a fortunate" instead of "fortune". Honestly, I can't help but blaming a poor editing job.
3. I HATED HER MOTHER. I really did. And that made me loose all respect for her father (who I didn't like very much anyways). Also, the whole drama with her mother kind of fixes itself, and that's just wrong. .
4. Why the main conflicts in romance have to be because of miscommunication? WHY?
