King and Slater have fought and warred all over the globe, from the desolate plains of the Russian Far East to the extreme altitudes of Nepal. Now, chaos strikes them at home — New York goes dark as malicious code infects the power grid in a devastating cyberattack.
More than eight million people across the five boroughs. No power, no running water, no sanitation. Food supplies will be exhausted within two days, and there’s no one to restock the shelves. The government has no solution to the myriad problems that come with a major city losing electricity for a prolonged period. All King and Slater know is the code used to knock out critical substations initiated in the heart of Manhattan, and so begins a harrowing race against the clock to get the lights back on before the city plunges into anarchy. They don’t have much time — it doesn’t take long for people to panic.
As they fight deeper into the bowels of the city, they realise there was a reason New York was targeted. Make as many enemies as they do, and it’s bound to catch up to you eventually…

Beyond fast-paced Will Rogers delivers another thrilling read.
I've read every Matt Rogers books about Will Slater and Jason King as individuals and now as partners. It's amazing how fast these books read and how they generally cover just a few days. What I did notice is that both men seem to feel the effects of their constant injuries now. I know all great partnerships come to an end at some time, I hope it's not too soon.
It's good, bit there's a lot of deep and meaningful stuff too
Not noticed this I'm the previous books, but it's been a while since I read the last one. There is a lot introspection from the 2 main characters, at times too much. It's good to know what they are thinking, but this was way too much Other than that, another cracking book. King & Slater are their usual selves for the most part, unbeatable in every respect. Not checked yet, but I hope the next book is out and available. I'll be buying it
Nonstop action and a real page turner. Who would have thought, disenfranchised kids. They have everything in the world, money, computers, education, yet they're not happy. Then there are all the New Yorkers all looking for happiness, in bars, prostitutes, drugs, and so on. The story is insightful, a lot of Superman type violence with a unique "what if" scenario. If you like action this is for you.
Author knows his stuff unlike others who call themselves author s Mr. Rogers 99% of the time does his research. The weapons use are real and accurately described and if not easily searched. The place they go are in there true location, and up to date. I want a MP7 LOL. Thanks for a great read
This series is really great. The characters are real and the action is over the top. I can't seem to get enough so I'm ordering the next book in the series.
As techie nerd, the reality of digital corruption is terrifying to me and in this it's realised with horrifying results. Thank goodness the duo are there to save us all. Real edge of the seat stuff!
Ciphers is another triumph for King and Slater (and Matt Rogers, as always)
A domestic terrorism event lifted straight from the worries and weaknesses of today. One final moment for King and Slater to save us from our own lost selves and the destruction it leads us into...
I started with book 1, and was hooked. Every adventure is different, exciting and unexpected with twists and turns. Never a dull moment from beginning to end. Can’t wait for the next adventure.
Where to start? The story is just not remotely believable. I have never been shot or been in a standoff while holding a gun to someone’s head. However, there seems to be a whole lot of talk about feelings in high pressure situations. The second book was much better.
Different from the previous books. It was good to see the characters having to adapt to a new style of threat, a modern threat. I do feel however that this book might be more a bridge to the rest of the series, as it didn't really feel that it was in keeping with the previous two books
Heart stopping action on the streets of New York plunged into total darkness by ex mob boss and 5 young hackers the stakes are high can they capture the hackers and relight New York in time
This was a pretty good read. The story is fast paced and not as fantastic as the previous books in this series. This is a good thing as it is a little more realistic than the previous stories.
Great series with plenty of action .I had read the first two before don't know why i didn't carry on glad i did well worth a read and King and Slater are a great team and people
This is my third book to read in this series and, no surprise, this is the third 5-star rating I've given. I really enjoy these fast-paced action thrillers and the two protagonists' rapport is very special. I've just ordered the next in the series and plan to read them all.
Man oh man, Matt Rogers sure knows how to get a person’s blood pressure up! King & Slater does again by facing evil nose to nose, while dealing with personal problems and relationships.
I read this book in one setting while at work and I would definitely do it again. When the power grid goes out in NYC, millions of people are without the things they take for granted and the madness ensues. Haunted by a previous vigilante mission, King & Slater must find a way to save the city and quite possibly the nation from returning to the Stone Age!
Never a dull moment when these two elite, highly trained, genetically freaks of nature get together to deal our justice!!
The King & Slater Series is well worth the read. The character descriptions are good and except for the ability to get shot and continue the mission with little effect or in this case get shot in the upper shoulder fight several bad guys while running through the city then dislocating a shoulder and having a woman put it back in place is a little hard to believe. That being said I did enjoy the read.
With all the action King and Slater pack into this story it's hard to believe it all games place in just one night. They find themselves facing both the possible devastation of New York and some of their old enemies in maybe their toughest case yet. I think this is the best book so far. Looking forward to the next adventure.
Loved this book as much as all the others! I read all of Jason King's first stories, then Slater came along to save the day. Since then I read Slater's stories and now, King & Slater together again. Looking forward to their next adventure.
I've waited for a book like this that addresses what Slater and King would be like in a disaster scenario. I'm a bit disappointed that there was so much vulnerability and weakness displayed. I honestly expected them to pull up their skirts a lot faster.
It just seems foreign to me to have those two so worried and nervous.
Last book I read this year and it was all I could ask for from a King and Slater adventure. New York is plunged into darkness by a cyber-attack on the power grid and our heroes are in the dark literally trying to fix it all. What a wonderful adventure. The thrills don't stop coming. Looking forward to the next King and Slater book!
Matt Rogers is a phenomenal author, all the Slater and King books are great. Slater and King are super soldier's with their own doubts and some insecurities, but they get the job done.
Considering the plot, it's very possible that this could actually happen. When I was reading, I didn't think about that possibility. When I finished the book I started thinking and realized the consequences.
Great reading book. Will recommend this book to friends and family members. Will be looking forward to reading more about the Slater\King adventures real soon I hope. Gave a 5 stars rating on the book.
