Grace Miller has worked hard at her career as a Human Rights lawyer, but with her fortieth birthday looming, she is desperate to settle down and start a family, and she knows she is running out of time. She thought she had found the perfect man when she met sadist, Dr. Xavier Diaz, the ideal foil for her own masochistic tendencies.
Everything between them seems to gel effortlessly, making it look like a match made in heaven...until she finds out that Xavier's own dream is to have a 'remote' 24/7 M/s relationship.
Publishers Note: This steamy BDSM romance contains graphic scenes, power exchange themes, and is intended for mature readers only, please.
The story is the seventh in the Club Risque series but could read well enough as a stand-alone. It does have many key people that are in the previous books. The story is a roller-coaster ride of two people, both close in age, both still single professional people. One is a masochist who is slowly heading down a dangerous road, the other a sadist who sees a cry for help. What will happen when these two connect? Sizzling hot chemistry, that’s what!
Grace Miller, a human rights attorney, is a masochist, nearly forty, and wants to settle down and start a family. She feels her biological clock is ticking. Because of her job, she travels out of the area to a club to get her fix, but never has time to stay for proper aftercare and now her whip marks on her back have become infected. She can’t go to her doctor, so instead, she goes to the hospital ER, and that is where she will meet Dr. Xavier Diaz.
Xavier Diaz has had to come to grips with his profession as a healer and his inner self, a sadist. It is a balancing act, but one he accepts. He has no plans of settling down in a relationship but wants a 24/7 Master slave remote relationship. His meeting Grace in the ER and having her come to his office for further evaluation will have him extending an invitation to be his guest at Club Risque.
“He couldn’t stop his mind from wandering over all the intriguing possibilities, and he couldn’t help wondering if she’d be open to the kind of sadomasochistic Master/slave relationship he wanted to cultivate with the right woman.”
The plot will have Grace accepting Xavier’s invitation to be his guest at Club Risque, and she likes what she sees, the high scale establishment lives up to the Club Risque name and reputation. The people she meets adds to her level of comfort. Negotiating and accepting to scene with Master X will have her soaring, and the feelings are mutual for him. Have these two found their perfect match?
“Finding out that Xavier was a sadist really was the icing on an already decant cake.”
“She set him on fire, just with being. There was no other way to describe it. Sometimes it felt like she was the other half of him, the yin to his yang.”
The story is full of the ups and downs of the relationship as it goes from just a casual occasional scene scenario to accepting Xavier’s unusual offer. His solution is a 24/7 M/s D/s relationship but to remain separate, and he held all control. Grace is ready to settle down and thinks maybe once they enter this dynamic, he will then be prepared to make it more permanent and fulfill her dreams. Two people who don’t carry out the conversation entirely will only lead to angst, anger, and disaster.
“I want a 24/7 relationship—but one with a bit of a twist. I want an M/s relationship, but I don’t necessarily want us to live in each other’s pockets.”
“It’s like I’ve swapped what I believed was a budding, good-humored relationship for something staid and stern, where all I get out of it is someone telling me what to wear and when to eat.”
While this couple has amazing chemistry during scenes, the lack of commitment is overwhelming to Grace, and yet, she never tells Xavier her feelings. Her clock is ticking, her future looks bleak, and her time with Xavier has dwindled to hardly seeing each other, much less having a relationship.
“Anger and frustration and declared when tiredness, antagonism, and resentment had reduced them to hurling retaliatory hurts which they didn’t necessarily mean.”
The story has some intense and explicit scenes that include erotic BDSM, punishments, and creative forms of sadomasochism. It also is a valuable lesson in being upfront and honest from the very beginning—or someone will get hurt, possibly physically, but definitely emotionally. All scenes are consensual.
“The passion which vibrates between us because of the sadomasochistic characteristics we share makes everything so much more explosive. That’s simply our nature. It may not always be easy, but it’s a sight better than apathy could ever be.”
I really liked Grace and Xavier from the beginning of the story, which is funny because I didn't like him at all when he was part of Laurel and Connor's story. I didn't realize this was the same person at first. I thought he was very cold and methodical in the other book.
Anyway, since this was more of a deep dive into Grace and Xavier, I got to learn more if what made him tick. Since he found more I'd a kindred spirit with Grace, they meshed on more than one level and physically almost perfectly.
I wasn't sure if they had a future together or not. Will they find their HEA in each other or just a temporary situation?
I really like the camaraderie Club Risque' has for the members and how they really are a kind of family to be brutally honest with each other and for comfort as well.
I have not read the full series yet , but I will. This is a newer to me author and I really enjoy their stories.

This book, Tormented Dreams, is the 7th book in the Club Risque series but I've not read any of the other books and can be read as a stand alone. Grace is a successful lawyer who feels she needs to keep her kinky side a secret. When a BDSM session goes badly and Grace develops an infection from the whipping she received, she needs to go to the ER for treatment. There Dr. and Dom Xavier treats her wounds and a relationship starts to develop. He wants a 24/7 M/s relationship and Grace isn't sure if that can work with her work life. How they build this between themselves was compelling, well written, interesting, and steamy. I will definitely go back and read the other books in the series. Fortunately the entire series is available to read for free with your KU subscription.

'Tormented Dreams' is the seventh book in Poppy Flynn's "Club Risqué" series, and of all of them, I'm not really sure how I feel about how this one ended. In my mind, I felt like Dr. Diaz, aka Master X, wasn't given the option of negotiation so much as an all-or-nothing option. You're going to have to read this one for yourself and bring your own interpretation. It was a terrific storyline, the chemistry between Grace and Xavi is off the chain, and they have a great report with the exception of one major difference. This one still has me mulling things over in my mind.
The story had real potential and the smut was hot af but the way things played out was just awful.
The female lead lied by omission, then blew up at the male lead, blaming him for the consequences of her deception and somehow he ended up being the one having to make things up to her.
This is the seventh in Ms. Flynn's "Club Risqué" series set in the kind of fantastical BDSM club popular among these generic authors (Club Shadowlands, Black Light: Roulette War, Masters of the Castle Box Set). While it's not necessary to read the others to enjoy this, Xavier ("Master X") appears first in Dark Consequences , where he ill-advisedly attempts to dom a clinically depressed submissive who really needed therapy.
He's much more likeable here and, in fact, the strength of this book is that Xavier and Grace are, refreshingly, mature, adult, professional people who, since both make some bone-headed moves, are equally responsible for the difficulties in their burgeoning relationship. Though the couple is compatible sexually (he a sadist, she a masochist), they ultimately want two disparate things: he a "remote" M/s relationship and she a committed family life that includes a child.
There's a lot to like about this book; I'll mention three. First, both characters are older (hence my tag "seasoned BDSM romance," a sub-genre coined by Karen Nappa). Though part of me wanted to laugh since only in this genre could 40 be considered "old," it was still welcome given that many h's are often still in their teens. Second, Ms. Flynn gives us dual POVs so we understand why each wants what they want. And, third, I thought their climatic scene was well-written and realistic: both had deluded themselves, both said hurtful things and were in turn hurt (I really felt for both of them here), and both were equally at fault. Side Note: TBH, I actually understood Grace more than I did Xavier since I can't even wrap my head around on how an M/s relationship would even work without the sort of time investment X couldn't provide. For an experienced dominant, he really wasn't thinking here.
What prevents me from rating this book more highly are my usual issues with this author: she's very repetitious (we get the same inner monologues with little to no variation) and much of her writing is very much tell and not show. In fact, the relationship develops very quickly -- not in terms of time since we're told that several months pass -- but because we simply don't see enough of it on the page; the ending, in particular, is very rushed.
3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4 because I appreciated that in a genre that is still overwhelmingly white that Xavier was Latinx. Ms. Flynn, if your future work contains more scenes like the one I describe above and fewer inner ruminations, your prose would be much more active and lively -- it would also allow room for more erotic scenes than appear here.
I suspect we may get a ménage story next. Another strength of this series is that Ms. Flynn does provide kink variety.
Note: While ymmv, I adhere to the ratings system as laid out by Goodreads: 2 stars = it was okay; 3 stars = liked it; 4 stars = really liked it; 5 stars = it was amazing. I gave this book 3 1/2 stars because I liked the characters, even though the repetition and inner monologues were irritating. I do not think that every book I read is "amazing;" further, I think that it cheapens the rating system to always assign 4 or 5 stars. If a book really earns the 4 or 5 stars (and I realize that this is, to some degree, subjective), I'll give them -- but it certainly shouldn't apply to every book. Again, ymmv, and everyone should enjoy/rate these books as they wish. I did not receive this book as an ARC; I'm not another author who hosts or is hosted by other authors in this genre on our websites; and I'm not friends with the authors IRL, "friends" on this site, or friends on any social media site.
Grace was an older woman looking for a sexual release and a man whom she could have a relationship with, and someone who was also ready to settle down and have a family. She met a doctor because she had some cuts on her back due to a scene at a club and he knew what they were from. He suggested a club to her, thinking they could have a relationship. But Grace wanted more than just a M/s relationship. She wanted a relationship that included a picket fence and children. Xavier just wanted to have someone 24/7 but no one living with him. After awhile Grace decided she couldn’t do this anymore and told him she that, and broke it off. So if Xavier wanted to be with Grace he had to make a choice because Grace was going to find a way to have a child with or without him. And he realized he loved her so he better make things right. Another good story by this author. ❤️
Though I admit to knowing virtually nothing at all about sadomasochism, I was a little put off by the idea. But Grace and Xavier showed me there are so many ways a sadist can torment a masochist and it’s not all about whips and floggings. As an older couple, it’s clear to see that this is an area of BDSM where it’s not easy to find a life partner, and both have been searching for a long time. The sad thing was that they both wanted something completely different from such a relationship. So, I was surprised when Grace agreed to Xavier’s proposed 24/7 Master/slave contract and couldn’t help thinking it was her own fault when she became more and more frustrated with the way things progressed. And while I didn’t agree with the way Grace exploded with her pent-up feelings, I understood where she was coming from, as every attempt to speak to Xavier about her concerns was met with fatigue, a lack of time or “other” distractions that made it impossible to have a proper discussion. Equally, I have to question Xavier’s idea of a Master/slave relationship and agreed with Grace that he wanted all the benefits, but none of the commitment. Unsurprisingly, Grace and Xavier have a mountain of obstacles to overcome before they can reach their happy end and both needed to own their mistakes and open the channels of communication. I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through Booksprouts arc.
Grace made her way into the a hospital to get her wound fixed which was way overdue. The nurse went to the Dr.Xavier because the marks looked strange she told him they looked like whip marks. Xavier spoke to her in hid Dom voice hoping she would understand. Xavier dressed her wounds and told her to come into his office at his private practice so he could take care of the wounds. Grace went to the club to meet with Xavier and she was glad that she went. Xavier was smitten with Grace and he was able to scene with her. She felt so good in Xaviers arms wishing she could find a Dom that would take care of her. Xavier was looking for a Dom/s relationship. Grace took it as far as she could but things changed. Will Grace and Xavier work out their difference or will they finally go these separate ways
Sadistic Doctor and submissive Lawyer Tormented Dreams is the 7th book in the Club Risque series that focuses on a fantasy BDSM club owned by a group of wealthy investors—who are also players. Each book focuses on a new set of characters, so they work pretty well as a stand-alone. I don’t think there’s much need to read them in any particular order.
This most recent addition is probably the shortest of them. A fairly quick read, but really good. The whole thing reads as a warning to make sure you communicate with your partner and throughout the book I was internally yelling at both of them to get their acts together. By the end though I really wanted them to work things out.
There are a few unfamiliar terms in here, which I expect is because the author is British, but it’s well-written and a great story with a happily ever after. I especially like the ginger scene because that’s one of my favorite little side kinks. VERY hot and steamy.
Tormented Dreams is the 7th and final original book in the series, completely revised for this edition. While Grace and Xavier's romance stands alone, I highly recommend reading the books in order as we get to know Xavier as a much-loved side character in most of them. His story is therefore much-anticipated and a fitting finale. Their kink is probably the most misunderstood, yet supposedly familiar one: Xavier's a sadist, Grace is a masochist. Yet we learn in the course of the book right along with Grace, that it's not all about pain. Physical pain, that is, because there are certainly heartbreaking and painful obstacles to overcome before this special couple comes to a well-deserved HFN. There is a potential for a true HEA in a new addition to the series which is coming soon and I can't wait! I received an advanced copy from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.
Tormented Dreams is dark, dynamic, and powerful! I’ve been patiently waiting for Xavier’s story, as he has been a mysterious and intriguing supporting character in the other books in this series, and it’s finally here! He is such a complex man, and I love learning more about him as the book develops. Grace is a fascinating female lead—and I love how we get to know her and see where these two take each other! I did not read any of the original series, but I have enjoyed every book in this newly revamped series! While they can be read as standalones, I’ve really appreciated having read the series in order as it brings a deeper understanding of the progression and personalities involved. While this is not an easy read—the BDSM themes are intense—it is well worth it. Poppy Flynn is an outstanding writer who combines unique characters and twisted plots to build amazingly immersive worlds.

This is the third book I have read and reviewed in this series by Poppy Flynn. I enjoyed this one even more than the others. Grace is an almost 40 year old successful human rights lawyer; Xavier is 42 years old and is a successful doctor. He is a sadist, she is a masochist. They meet when he patches her up after a bad experience she had; and a D-s relationship develops between them. There is a lot of angst in the story because he doesn’t want it to include living together, while she wants to live together and have children. Their failure to communicate well with each other leaves them both unhappy, and it takes time for them to realize that they need to compromise in order to enjoy the lifestyle and have a family. Reading through the earlier books I didn't expect Xavier to get his own book, but it definitely worked. This one offered a much deeper look into Club Risque's resident sadist, and he definitely made a good lead character. I felt bad for Grace early on thinking she was a victim of someone else's desires. That changed quickly as it became apparent that she was no one's victim. I really like how self assured she was, and how willing she was to walk away from a situation when it stopped working for her. Like most of the books in the series, this one had lots of relationship angst, but like always it makes the ending even sweeter. This has definitely been a fun series to read and I hope the author decides to stick with it for a couple more books.

Grace first meets Xavier in the ER after a brutal beating but a consensual one as she is a sadomasochistic and Xavier is a Dom, doctor and sadist. He has her come by his office to check to make sure the wounds are healing properly and then invites her to Club Risque as his guest. They scene together and things appear to be going pretty well even their m/s relationship or so he thinks. She becomes so flustered at the way things aren't going she blows up at him. She is truly concerned as he is burning the candle at both ends. When he finds out what she was wishing for he never has a chance to answer her tirade. There are many twists and turns. You really must read a page turner.

I found this to be a deeply emotional story that tore at my heart but gladden it by the end. Grace was a masochist, while Xavier was a sadist. A relationship between them would give them both what they most deeply desired. Yet, after three months into their relationship, it fell apart, something that devastated them both. The problem was that neither of them communicated when issues arose. Instead, they allowed them to fester until the anger became explosive, and it all fell apart. This story ends happily but not before they both have learned a hard lesson.

Dr Xavier Diaz finally gets his own story and what a story it is! I loved every page turning moment as Xavi finds the piece of the puzzle that has been missing when he meets Grace. It was as if she had come home to where she was always meant to be. Now all they need to do is follow where their dreams lead. Together.
Their story starts off with a bang and doesn’t slow down as it takes you on the ride with these wonderful characters. I couldn’t put this book down and cannot wait to find out what happens next!
While this is book 7 in the series, you can read this book standalone. However, I recommend reading the other books in the series first so you can fully appreciate all the nuances with these wonderful characters.
"He'd never been in love before, but he imagined this might be what it felt like."
I have to say, Xavier and Grace took poor communication to the next level. I couldn't get over how bad they could be, especially considering how quickly they connected as a couple. It's like they were determined to mess everything up. Grace couldn't seem to speak her mind and Xavier was being so dishonest with his emotions he was even lieing to himself. I was actually starting to worry they would never find their way.
I freely admit I've never read any of the earlier books in the series and yet I enjoyed this story and never once felt lost. I do, however, now plan to go back and start with book one. I can't wait to learn everything about this interesting group of friends.
Tormented Dreams is the seventh book in the Club Risqué series. This is as new release of the previously released book, in 2020. I had not read that original version so I am not sure if the story has been rewritten or just updated lightly. But in any case it is a smoking hot story about Grace Miller and Xavier Diaz. But there is more to the story as these two end up on an emotional journey that will see them figuring out how they want to be together and just what future they each want. We get to explore both their relationship and each of their feelings and emotions separate. it made for an interesting read that goes by too quickly even with a lovely ending.
Tormented Dreams is the seventh book in the Club Risqué series by Poppy Flynn which focuses on the story of Grace Miller, an attorney and masochist who is wanting to start a family as she is almost 40 years old, and Dr. Xavier Draz, and ER physician and sadist wanting a remote 24/7 relationship who meets Grace when she seeks treatment for infected wounds from a whipping. They develop a relationship at Club Risqué but they are diametrically opposite in their life style choices. This short read has well developed characters and lots of sizzling chemistry.

This was another thrilling and emotional story in this series... the relationship sorta seems to focus on the Lawyer and her views more than Master X's. I never really got his independent Master/ slave idea... and she totally expresses the confusion. Luckily he figures out he didn't quite like all his independent mastering either. They were much better before he started with his fantasy... I liked the story but it didn't have quite the Drama and action of the one's before it in the series. I hope The two Doms looking for a Submissive are going to have a story soon.
Book 7 of Club Risqué We are back with the group of BDSM Doms, submissives, and friends from previous Club Risqué books. This book centers around Xavier and Grace but you do get to hear from the others here and there also. Xavier and Grace are both older and as such set in their ways of being a Sadist and Masochist, but both are longing to find a permanent partner. They find they are a perfect fit in their kink, but what about in their everyday lives? This book gives you front row seats on the emotional roller coaster of their journey. Well written, captivating, and plenty of kinky scenes. "This is my honest review of an advanced reader copy."
Tormented Dreams is the 7th book in the Club Risque series. This is a dark BDSM romance. This is the story of Dr. Xavier DIaz, otherwise known as Master X, desires a very unconventional relationship that he hasn't been able to find the perfect partner for until he meets Grace. While their chemistry is off the charts, their wants and goals are complete opposites. Will they be able to come to an understanding and compromise that makes them both happy before it's too late? Fantastic addition to the series and I can't wait to see what comes next!!!.

I adore this series and we finally get a story for Dr. Xavier. He is known as Master X in Club Risque. When he meets Grace at his office he recognizes that she's been damaged by her desires, which might be a match for his own.
Their beginnings are unusual but the chemistry is firey. Unfortunately Xavi has some unrealistic views about his future, that doesn't match with Grace's. I loved their story, and hopefully Poppy will give us another chance to see their own HEA, though for now we see a satisfying HFN.
This is another book in the Club Risque series and a very enjoyable read I must say. Nice to see that this couple are in the older bracket which makes the storyline a little more interesting. Very good characters who gel well together. Very good sex scenes and angst to make this a very entertaining and delicious read. A very good story from a very good series.

I have read most of the Club Risqué books by Poppy Flynn and they just keep getting better. The emotions and situations are different in each book unlike some series that all the books are very like each other. The read constant between them is how well they are written and how much fun they are to read. I recommend this series highly.

This racy read is action packed right from the start. Ms. Flynn has a gift for creating unique cute meets with her hero and heroine. I’d never seen one quite like the way Grace and Xavier are introduced. I love how the novel is theme heavy in the BDSM genre and stays focused on said theme with page turning action all the way through to the happily ever after.
Xavier also known as Master X meets his match in Grace. Their beginnings are unusual but it also seems somewhat serendipitous. Their chemistry and passion is the fire that never goes out but that isn’t everything. I love their journey even though at points it had my heart aching in sympathy and under for both of them. Great read love the journey!!.
