Heidi was raised to be a huntress ever since the Order took her off the streets and trained her in the deadly arts. Foremost among her peers, she was chosen by the Master to be his assassin. She never imagined that she would fall until the day she went against his will and saved his stepdaughter by helping her to escape from his formidable mansion. It made her a target and she became the hunted. They nearly killed her.
Nearly wasn’t good enough.
Seven years of healing, training and hunting the Master, victory is finally in her grasp. She would kill the Master and satisfy her vengeance. When her plans are foiled by a triad of Ragoru after the same prey, she finds herself thrust into a strange alliance of huntress and predator as they seek the male that has wronged them both.
The Ragoru are after him for their own reasons, to satisfy an oath made, it is the only reason that they agree to an alliance with the huntress when seven revolutions of plotting and stalking is foiled. With the Master on the run, they need someone who is intimately familiar with him and can help them in their quest to destroy him.
When their joined path brings them across the continent to Dunvar Citadel they have to confront the terrible truths about the city celebrating its annual spring Fool’s Ball. It is far worse than any of them fear and they have no one to depend on but each other and the bond growing between them.

This book contains graphic violence and sex that includes a small amount of m/m

So, here's the thing. I like the Ragoru series in principle. But I feel like the execution is lacking. And I've finally figured out why.

There's an imbalance. The triads are always well-established, the males having known each other for years and being totally committed to each other. They're very affectionate to each other and I feel like the only reason they need a mate is to propagate and have sex. The heroines on the other hand are loners, they are usually outcasts, and lack any sort of social contacts. (Why wasn't that the case for Deni from the Mintar series, though? It must be a Ragoru thing.)

This would work out okay, still, if it weren't for the Ragoru triads and their needing to all choose and agree on their mate. I get that you don't want an insta love situation, but this is almost the opposite, with the middle one of the triad always insta hating the heroine, and the lead never being able to make up his own mind and always following his triad. They pretend that the females choose the triad, but human females have no choices whatsoever, so that doesn't work - can you imagine a couple of triads vying for one human female? That would be so much better. What we end up with is a triad going back and forth over choosing the heroine, and the heroine having to prove herself, instead of the other way around, while the triad comfortably have each other! It makes me feel very uncomfortable.

This story is rescued by the heroine being pretty darn badass. She's awesome. That assassination at the end was epic, and I wish we could have seen her be more like this throughout the book. The Ragoru triad she ended up with were idiots, and I'm pretty sure she only loved them because she's never had any other options.

Other negatives: the Mintars being willing to hand over a human woman.... After reading the Mintar story first I'm honestly a bit confused. And that poor queen! The end was annoying and badass at the same time. Our assassin, who was freaking the best assassin in the entire world, being the right hand huntress of the Master no less, had her entire mission planned by the librarian and the seamstress. I cannot express how lame I found that. Then when she's finally ready to defeat the Master, because she's in a stupid dress and lacking her weapons she basically gets defeated (how the fff did she allow that to happen anyway? You'd have expected her to die years ago with those kinds of decisions... Really disappointing). The Ragoru, having stood back indulgently and a bit condescendingly honestly, take over and rip him to shreds in seconds. Ugh. Lame as heck.

2.75 star This story started out well. FINALLY a twisted bad@$$ female who can take care of herself. Heidi was spitting mean like a snake and crafty. While the plot didn't drag everything was too convenient. Heidi stumbled across an item that was ten years old and should have been replaced but still worked. (For instance you lose your credit card you don't get another with the same number and pin code) *eye roll*. All along their journey everything fell into their lap. The things you thought would be enemies were overbearing nice and helpful.

The steamy scenes were just too much. I didn't enjoy them they were overly done and took away from the book tremendously. I got the the first scene and almost quit reading. Honestly if this wasn't the last book I would have. I mean I got use to the weird in the other two stories but this one took it to a whole new level. When Gund presented his self in front of everyone I was just like ok this is dumb. And the lame flirting threw me off many times over.

They did meet new creatures which I enjoyed. I have a feeling their will be new stories about the Atlavan's and Minotaur's but in all actuality I don't believe I will be continuing after this one. I felt a real connection between Emala and her mates but not so much with Heidi. They fell apart so easily I don't see their issues getting resolved anytime soon.

Tah was probably my favorite. I was wondering why Ragoru always ate bland food and he help me learn a little more along that subject. Orth was playful and sweet I admired how he never gave up on Heidi. Gund just felt like a total sellout. I honestly didn't think he would ever accept Heidi. Gund hardly ever gave an indication he liked her. Their characteristics were much too similar and clashed with the overall structure. You can't have two alphas.

I couldn't appreciate this story like I wanted too. I love the alien Ragoru's. This triad didn't work well together. Everything was handed to them. The end fight scene did not really amounting to much. The introduction to new species was intriguing. I guess I set my hopes to high for this story after loving the last one so much.

I really enjoyed the PTSD depiction in this book. Both Heidi and Tah had their own brand of it, and I thought they were both accurate. Orth was the peacemaker figure in the group, although he did grow in his assertiveness. Gund was a bit enigmatic, even to the end. I would have loved more background on all the MCs. The overarching plot was dark AF, which I expected ofc. It had a good mix of intrigue and survival.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: violence, gore, murder, references to SA of side characters, trafficking, kidnapping, captivity, poverty (historical), trauma responses, mention of grooming

Started out good, then it just went flat. Everything was too convenient and easy. Lots of excess info about the world building which is fine, but at that point getting all this extra info made me lose even more interest in the characters. I hope the next one is about bird people. That seemed like a better time than what this book offered lol

3.5/5 ⭐️s

I enjoyed the world expansion we got in this book, but it felt slightly rushed. Hopefully, SJ plans on writing spin-offs to better dive into this with more detail!

After Red and White, I was worried Huntress would feel a bit repetitive. Heidi and her triad had such a different dynamic than the other relationships we’ve seen so far though; I was absolutely invested in their HEA!

It was ok

Love this writer but with this book the storyline and characters lacked a depth I've become accustomed to reading this writers work. Still decent read just not "recommend to others" worthy

One dimensional.

This was very hard to get through. This piece read one dimensional for me. There was telling lots and lots and LOTS of telling with express bursts of showing. This made the characters feel..less believable. I couldn't connect to the story.

I'll be the first to say none of the Ragoru books are....complex, high literature. They are exceedingly simple in their language, prose, and plot construction. But I know when I sit down to read one its gonna be ladies getting railed by double-dicked wolfboys so I adjust my expectations.

Even with that adjustment, this is just not up to par. The editing is poor, with far more typos and errs than I'm used to seeing. The plot is both too meandering and too direct - the traveling drags on and on, with random asides visiting villages and alien camps, but while these add a wrinkle to worldbuilding, its mostly just to give the protagonists everything they need on a silver platter. A lot of plot is moved by coincidences.

The fight at the end is unsatisfying, because It feels like she made zero impact or had zero agency, in the long run.

Really, the whole last third of the book was....rough. There's no way you can and you sure as hell ain't doing it 'with a bobbin.' There's no way a room full of people, including Order hunters, aren't going to recognize as exactly that.

The Big Misunderstanding was Here's the thing, though: No. No, none of this was okay.

I'm also not a huge fan of "I'm broken!" being used so much. It gives me the ick. There are ways to say a person has trauma and they are working on it without implying they are irreparably damaged.

TL;DR: Swing and a miss.

If you love SJ Sanders' Ragoru books Red and White (Emala's story), then you will absolutely love the next instalment in this series, Huntress.

Heidi was raised to be a weapon for the Order until her Master betrays her. Now, she is out for revenge. Only to have her kill thwarted by a triad of Ragoru who are hunting her former Master for reasons of their own. Reluctantly, they agree to a truce and to work together until their ultimate goal is met. Heidi does not expect to fall in love in the process.

I really enjoyed Huntress.

Heidi is a character I liked from the get-go. She's stubborn and skilled and absolute warrior-queen. I like that she complains about the fact that she has to camp outdoors, remembering that she's hunted people form the relative safety of large Citadels and small towns until this point. Her interaction with each individual Ragoru is fun, too.

Tah, one member of the triad, has fundamental flaws that just endear him to me. I don't want to spoil anything so I shall let you read about him for yourself.

Gund is the leader of their triad and has known Tah since they were rogs. This makes the two of them very close but it also means that Gund can be a little oblivious to Tah's faults.

Orth is the third member of the triad and he is the one that I fell head over heels for. Patient to a fault, he is funny and charming and warms up to Heidi right away.

All three have a close bond and it's evident as you read along just how close these three are.

SJ Sanders also introduces two new alien species in this book, one winged-like species and one taur (four-legged) type species.

I hope you decide to give Huntress a go. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope that SJ Sanders continues to write more.

Yes please I'd like my own triad💖🌹

Wow, just wow. Heidi is the Night Huntress one of the few to truly exist within the order. She was plucked off the poor dirty streets as a child and trained as an assassin. She showed much skill and became the right ha d of Erik the master Huntsman. As Heidi grows she sees the evil the order has perpetuated. When the Master goes after Emala she helps her escape. That signs her death warrant. The master sends others to kill her but she is too skilled she is badly hurt Be takes years to heals but she his determined to have her revenge and see the Master dead. Gund, Tah and Orth are a Ragrou triad that sword vengeance on the Master that hurt their friends and tried to kill the beautiful Emala. It has taken them years but they are finally ready to take their revenge. That is until they see a human women just about ready to steal their prey. When this trio and the huntress clash sparks fly, tempers sore and attraction books over. Both parties have struggled all their lives fighting for survival. Trust and love are the greatest prizes but they are not easily won. This book is a journey of revenge, healing, finding purpose, forgiveness and the best prize of all love. So good and totally worth reading. 💖🌹💖🌹💖💖🌹🌹💖🌹💖🌹💖

3.5⭐️

The romance from the males perspective progressed at a believable pace, but the FMC went from fighting, to lust, to love too quickly, without much explanation for how.
(For those so inclined, plenty of smutty sex scenes. Though thankfully, they didn’t overtake the story. You can choose to read or not.)

Plus, considering her back story and issues of self esteem and trust, she forgave waayyy too quickly and easily. That part was disappointing, didn’t fit with the quality of the rest of the story.

Also, really!, would have liked to have seen them hunt out others with the tattoo. They let that go too easily.
Possible set-up for future stories, but I still would have liked them to care more, especially as she supposedly wanted to be better than her past…

Action was awesome, characters were engaging, world building satisfying, just would have liked more interaction with the rest of the world and its characters.
It’s the difference between those that are romance based, and those that are story driven.

Romance revolves around the love interests, to the exclusion of all else. Story driven engages with the world around them, and gives enough detail to be able to envision it.

My favs are those that combine the two.
This wasn’t quite there.

"The world may hate and revile us, but still we go on."

This story was quite different from the others in the series. There was a lot more plot and development, which was what I was missing from the rest, but in this case, sometimes it bordered the unnecessary. The plot was overdone in some parts, and everything seemed too convenient at others. Nonetheless, there was an improvement in the writing and character development, which I adored.
Heidi, the book's main character, was undoubtedly the one I got to know best from the Ragoru stories, as well as her triad. Gund, Tah, and Orth were not only remarkably different from each other, but also from the other Ragoru triads we have gotten to know. I also loved how we got to learn more about the other extraterrestrial species that inhabit the world, the Mintars, and Atlavans and will be looking forward to meeting the Drakni in future books.
So, despite the negative aspects presented at the start, I do believe this to be the best Ragoru story yet and will surely be reading the next books set in this world!

Heidi has been trained to be a huntress by the master, the one on top of the hunter and while she always knew that he is not a good human she never expected to be betrayed by him. When he thinks she is dead, it’s the best opportunity for her to get revenge and kill him but when her time comes she is stopped by a Ragoru who claims it’s his tribes right to kill him.

First of this is an MMFM book. So there are three males and one female going to be in a relationship together. I love poly relationships, so this is right up my ally.

The characters in this were great. I really like Heidi and I wish we would have gotten to know a little more about her past. As for our three Ragoru males I love them too. They are stubborn and make stupid decisions and I love that. I mean they learn out of their bad decisions so it’s good they happened.

The story is good too. It had gripping moments and lots of funny and cute ones.
I couldn’t get over the fact that the alpha let down his pants in the middle of a festival among strangers, to show her that they want her to be their mate.

I love the Ragoru books so far and looking forward to read more in this universe.

Heidi is a Huntress. She embodies this quote by Shakespeare, "Though she be but little, she is fierce," perfectly. The plot is that Heidi is planning to kill the Master. (He's evil and deserves to die, by the way.) Three Ragaru desire to end him, as well. Unfortunately, they foil each other on their first try. Gund, Tah, and Orth enter into an agreement with Heidi to hunt the Master down. This book was one marvelous adventure! They journey along tracks through dark tunnels that have a retched surprise. They meet the legendary Atlavans, fiery winged creatures who're highly intelligent. They encounter Mintars, too! Along the way, they might just get a little help from their new friends.

I've just got to say I loved this book! I loved how the Ragaru ended up more than friends with Heidi. (That was quite steamy. Two thumbs up!) Now I'm dying to read a story about our Atlavans. Please, please?! Epic adventure, steamy nights, mythical creatures... Sign me up! 5 stars

So far, my favorite among the Ragoru novels.
The back and forth between the triad and the huntress were enjoyable. As enjoyable as any enemies-to-lovers trope can be. Honestly, I love the huntress. There's nothing like a sassy broken mess of a woman who can dish back whatever is given. As jaded as I am, I relate to the trust levels on both sides and the assumptions each make in certain decisions that may have upset previous readers. When all you've known is betrayal and misery, it's hard to accept anything else. It's a journey, and I really appreciate despite what happened, the Huntress was able to forgive and move on. For sure, these books do not lack self-reflection.

As always, I enjoy the world building and love the expansion on it. The Mintars and Atlavans were a joy to get to know and I look forward to the future books that will come of this. At least, that's what I'm hoping for!

Great reading!
What an amazing journey Heidi and the Ragoru triad set out on to reach the Master of the Order of Huntsmen! I am fascinated by all the different compatible-with-human-alien beings they encounter on the way. And, yes, some legitimate monsters, too. Their goal is mutual: kill the Master. I love watching the dynamic change from reluctant companions to friendship and beyond. Heidi is a woman of extraordinarily honed skills and a lifetime of accumulated scars. Her triad of Ragoru - Gund, Tah, and Orth - are every bit as capable and ever so protective. Three Ragoru with such differing personalities. The combination is delightful. I had to laugh at Tah’s description of Heidi’s name and how he hated the sound of it! I have no doubt that you will, too! Their romance is not smooth and easy, but ultimately, they win their prize. Read and enjoy this thrilling adventure!

I enjoyed it

There were many things I loved, liked and enjoyed about this story, and there were also things I got bored with or didn’t enjoy.

I loved and disliked Heidi. I liked and disliked Tah. I have strong mixed feelings about Gund. Orth was my favorite but he also was pretty mild.

Heidi was a strong character but I don’t feel like we got the whole Heidi experience. There were times where her character felt superficial, raw and unfinished.

Tag was just annoying and I feel he lacked depth.

Gund was the leader and yet I didn’t feel like he was. His dynamic with his triad brothers was odd and at times that felt purposeful because of their experience but at other times it just felt misplaced in a way that wasn’t enjoyable.

Orth was a sweetheart and the heart of his triad. I wish he had shined more throughout the story.

Overall, this was a good read.

I thought red was delicious, but The Huntress was a whole new level of hot & sexy. Orth was such a sweetie pie, and Gund *swoons*, but Tah? Oh lord, don't get me started on the tension between him and Heidi. These Ragoru did not want anything to do with our main character, but too bad for them.

I love our main character. She is sweet, sassy, feisty and intelligent. She's every badass we want to be. Despite having a rough past, she's decided it's not going to slow her down. Also it's nice to read a 30ish year old!

What I thought was a well fleshed out world turned out to be SO much more. I don't want to spoil the goods, but let me just say, this series has opened up so many possibilities now I'm squealing in delight.

Wow, what to say... I loved this book. I’d really like to have more stories about the people involved. Check out the previous one. In the meantime, if you like strangely shaped creatures w loyal hearts, this is it. Several kinds of strangely shaped creatures, btw. Grin. A quest, new friends and a forever love, make a great story. A strong human female is the center of it all. I appreciate that, you will too. Check out the creatures. I wanted to slice and dice some of them, myself. And fly w others...more grinning. 👍

This book dragged on for me and was much longer than it needed to be, and I didn't particularly like the huntress FMC Heidi or the Ragoru triad in this one. The relationship development was superficial, and the MCs were mostly saved with deux ex machina plot devices to progress the story. The final battle was pretty unsatisfying and quickly resolved without much complexity. I thought the M/M introduced was unnecessary and came out of nowhere.

I'll probably still check out a few of the author's releases, but they seem to be a hit or miss for me so far.

A WONDERFULLY CREATIVE ADVENTURE

The discriptive adventure this Ragoru Triad of Gund, Tah, Orth and the fierce Huntswoman Heidi embark on takes them farther into their distopian lands than either has ever traveled before. This brings them into the territories of alien and mutated beings they have never come upon. Causing them to face dangers they were unaware even existed. Joining forces to hunt down the despicable Master Huntman and put and end to his rule and discusting plans for the future of their world.

Highly recommend this one. It was my favorite in the series, I was so absolutely in love with this dynamic. I laughed my ass off multiple times in the book and I still can’t stop thinking about the triad. Overall 11/10 storyline. Nothing too gory, gloomy, or tragic. The story was fast and boy did I finish it up as quickly as I started. This author is absolutely wonderful.

Romance 5/5
Smut 5/5
Humor 10/5
Thrilling 5/5
Hurt/sad moments about 3 max
But it is a HEA!
I cannot stress this enough, I was so happy with the whole storyline.

Huntress

An enjoyable read as always from Sanders with an interesting plot and worldbuilding as well as likeable characters. The romance was a bit disjointed in that the first 50% of the plot was of the characters being cautious allies and then within a chapter suddenly they're having all the feels, I felt like it would have benefited with a more gradual build up so the romance didn't feel forced. Looking forward to seeing where the series goes next.

I really liked this story, but it was more talking rather than showing. Even though the adventure has been enjoyable and somewhat action packed, I still felt like it lacked something from the female assassin. Plus the ending was really anticlimactic, there was one little fighting scene but that was it. The ending could have been a bit more challenging I think, either way I liked and gave it 4 stars.

Heidi is a Huntress. She's been betrayed and now seeks revenge. Her path crosses directly with a Ragoru triad bent on destroying the same man she's after. They decide to take her with them when it becomes clear she knows where their prey is heading. Even though they don't quite trust her they do begin to grow more attached to her the longer they travel together.

I'm glad Heidi got her story I would've liked to see more about their life later on but overall a good story.

Not for me.
I loved this book and story until I didn’t. Third act break up meh but fine.. issue is I have severe abandonment issues and the whole get back together was just words. I get that everyone makes mistakes but words are not louder than actions. And the triads actions here were LOUD. I don’t think they need to grovel. They need to rebuild trust. 4 star because I really did enjoy it but now I don’t get my warm and fuzzies which are very important.
