Kenzie has lived in Whisperwood since she was a child. She’d fallen into a strange but happy routine that included her best friend and boyfriend, but when he’s fired for inappropriate conduct, Kenzie begins to spiral. Her fixation on the newest resident becomes a welcome distraction but as Halloween approaches, she starts to wonder where Crane’s delusions end and a strange reality begins.
…where the petting zoo gets a little insane.
Crane has always avoided the living at all costs, his job in the morgue only helping his desires. When he runs into a mysterious stranger at a bar one night, his life takes a sudden turn into hell. Now, he’s hearing a mysterious voice and the proper jerk has a fascination with heads. Willingly checking himself into Whisperwood should have been the answer to his problems. Instead, the feisty blonde with a taste for trouble only seems to make his own yearning for blood stronger.
When All Hallows Eve crashes down upon Kenzie and Crane, will they be strong enough to survive the massacre, or will they remain locked within the suffocating walls of Whisperwood Sanitorium?
**Head Case contains depictions of gore, blood, and a sexy Horseman. Don't forget to mind your head...**
Kendra Moreno is secretly a spy but when she’s not dealing in secrets and espionage, you can find her writing her latest adventure. She lives in Texas where the summer days will make you melt, and southern charm comes free with every meal. She’s a recovering Road Rager (kind of) and slowly overcoming her Star Wars addiction (nope!), and she definitely didn’t pass on her addiction to her son (she did). She has one hellhound named Mayhem who got tired of guarding the Gates of Hell and now guards her home against monsters. She’s a geek, a mother, a scuba diver, a tyrannosaurus rex, and a wordsmith who sometimes switches out her pen for a sword.
If you see Kendra on the streets, don’t worry: you can distract her with talks about Kylo Ren or Loki. #LokiLives #BringBackBenSolo

Whoa, that was an incredible story. I loved this different take of the Headless Horseman. This is the perfect book to get into for the Halloween festivities if you love scary movies and such. I really liked the characters. The intensity of emotions and chemistry with Kenzie and Crane aka "H".
So we have Crane and Kenzie who meet at Whisperwood Sanitarium. So they hit it off but Kenzie senses something with Crane but doesn't question it. Why would she? They are both in a Psych ward. So Crane has a lot of emotions coming off him. Some to do with him and some to do with a voice in his head. Say what? That is what I said, A voice in his head. Well Crane has nightmares and is trying to figure out what is real and what is a dream until he finally gives in. In the meantime, the development between him and Kenzie heats up. Whoa is it hot too. Then some crazy stuff starts to happen and finally punishment is doled out. The Headless Horseman shows up and heads start falling. The mayhem that occurs is crazy.
This book was so reallly good, twisted and freaking bloody. I loved it. If you have triggers than I would not recommend.
haha wow! the authors really made the headless horseman realistic considering this day and age. its well written and believable considering the situation. very hot and goes on the dark side. theres a lot of bloody scenarios on here so let that be a warning for the readers.
great story especially when its close to halloween
3.5 Stars Well I wanted a crazy Halloween read and this was all that and more. After self admitting himself to an asylum the hero is in for a wild ride of which there is no preparing. He recently and unknowingly became ‘possessed’ by the Headless Horsemen and is struggling with the sudden urge to chop off heads and collect them. His struggles only get worse as each day passes nearing Halloween. Luckily he meets the heroine, a self proclaimed crazy whose basically been raised at the asylum and will be there for life. Hearing voices, fascinating over heads and bathing in blood don’t turn the heroine off and so she’s immediately important to him. The two struggle to find ways to be together under the countless eyes and rules keeping them apart. As the heroes powers grow everyone will soon learn not everything is in his head. This was an absolutely weird, unbelievable and insane read about some insane characters. It is kinda gory and graphic with all the head chopping and blood but it didn’t bother me and certainly brought out a chuckle or two. Perfect Halloween read for anytime of the year.
If I could rate this more then 5 stars I definitely would you guys won’t be disappointed at all. Head Case is a retelling of the Headless Horseman story with a different twist. Kenzie who is a resident of Whisperwood where she’s been since a kid becomes fixated on Crane who checks himself in for hearing a voice in his head. Strange things start happening all around them and they will have to wait till All Hallows Eve to make heads roll. I highly recommend this book.
Wow this is an amazing retelling of the Headless horseman. It's well written, a fast read, great characters, funny, twisted, steamy, and a little dark. I love it. You have to take the journey to WhisperWoods, you have to meet Kenzie and Crane aka. F. G. This is one of the best new books out. You have to read this book, it's a must. This has to be the best way to tell the horseman's story. Put this one on your TBR list, and enjoy the ride.
I loved this the retelling of the headless horsemen set on its head set in a metal institution this a bloody, gory and a great story this is a must read for Halloween.
Holly amazeballs what a book!!!!! Definitely one of my all time favourites! Okay, but before I start with my adoration of the story and the authors, I have to leave a tiny warning. This book is not for sensitive readers. This is a hard core murder book, full of blood and gore. On the other hand, if this is your thing, then this book is a must read, but be warned, if you're not sure, don't go there. And now let me go back to telling you how much I adore this book. Firstly, this book was incredibly satisfying in every way. Everyone who knows me, knows how much I adore these two authors and everything they come up with, but this, this is greatness on another level. This is a book for people who have been bullied and could't do anything about it. It felt sooooooooooooo good. And once I started I couldn't put it down, I read it on one go. I really can't say much about the story without giving spoilers because the charm lies in not knowing. And the suspense the authors built is freaking amazing. I had no freaking clue where the story was going or what is real and what is not. Cudos to the authors for doing such a brilliant job with the story. And the characters... It seem superfluous mentioning their great world building and character development because of course it's great! These two authors have proven their fantastic writing skills over and over again, so no need to mention it every time. Yes, separately or together, they always rock! I have to mention two main characters Kenzie and Crane. Kenzie is a lifer in the Whisperwood psychiatric institution for unknown reasons, I can't say any more. She is amazing, strong, proud and nothing keeps her down for long. Crane comes in voluntarily to resolve some unexpected issues and that's all I am going to say. We all expect some kind of romance here, and of course it's there, and it's wild, all consuming, and annihilating anything standing in its way. But what is really special here is their unusual connection. And although the authors never mention soul mates, that's how it feels, for real. Not some fated destined loss of control crap, but for real, like when two people recognise each other as their other halves and nothing else can even compare. The chemistry between them is off the charts, just like their bond. And there are several scenes to testify to that. The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it finished and it seems to be a standalone, so I won't get a chance to spend more time with Kenzie and Crane. I am seriously in love with this couple, what an amazing unity and unconditional love and trust! I love love love the authors for giving me this book. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
I've read several books from both authors now, loving both their writing styles and creative plots, and I honestly didn't think that they could write something to surpass some of my favorite books from them. These past books I'm talking about were at the top of my list of some of my favorite stories ever written, so to say that this book was my FAVORITE thing either ladies has ever, EVER written is saying something.
Honestly, I'm still f**king shocked at what I read because, holy-sh*t Batman, this book was so twisted, so erotic, so EVERYTHING. I had to put the book aside, with the biggest grin on my face, and ask myself if I was okay because some of the scenes in this book were dark and I didn't discourage, but encouraged them haha
H had to had been my favorite character. He was f*ckin' nuts!! But I loved that little psychopath LOL he made the story so much fun and, although dark and crazy, he had some great ideas bwahahaha! Let's get some heads rolling!
I HIGHLY recommend this series. I recommend it to you mother, your friends, your cousins, h*ll, maybe if your grandma likes a good dark read she'll love this too. Deliciously twisted!
This book took me completely by surprise. I’ve never read anything like it. It was dark, gritty, sexy and at time hilarious.
Kenzie, the story’s FMC, is tormented but still a complete badass. She was dealt a crap hand in life but things seem to be looking up for her. Crane/H, the MC, is hot and twisted. I was a huge fan of the banter and conversation between Crane and H.
It blows my mind that Poppy and Kendra were able to write this in a way that it felt like a ménage, even though Crane and H share a body. I seriously can’t say enough about this book. Who knew that blood and gore could be so dang sexy? These ladies absolutely killed it with this book and I can’t wait to see if they have more horror based stories planned. If you’re looking for a sexy and demented spin on a Halloween based legend, this is the book for you!
Such a great, dark, spooky October read. I really love our main characters (their chemistry is 🔥🔥🔥) and the story was really interesting. I devoured the book.. couldn’t wait to find out what happens.
I do wish there had been a little more closure with what happens to Mitzi. I got really invested in her as a side character and would have liked to know what happens to her now.
4 stars instead of 5 because it was a bit gory for my personal taste but if you like that then definitely give this book a go. Even if you don’t typically read gory books maybe try something new for the spook-tastic holiday :)
This book is so gloriously twisted. It’s a fun and bloody take on the headless horseman tale, and I’m not sure how they managed to make so much blood and murder and mayhem sexy, but Kendra and Poppy did it well.
Kenzie and Crane are such a great pair, and H is, well, perfectly murderous. Eventually you’ll start to feel like Crane and Kenzie are the sanest people in this book, and the staff of Whisperwoods are the monsters. Be prepared for a sweet love story, nestled into a sanitarium, and sealed with decapitation and revenge. Just don’t lose your head...
Head Case is a fantastic read, it gets dark so check the trigger warning. Honestly I thought it was going to be a bit much for me but the way it’s written made it a fantastic read. If you liked Kendra’s Cruel as a Queen I think you’ll be ok but take care and judge for yourself. This book is compelling, strangely sexy*phew*, darkly and sometimes goofily funny, very bloody, and very well written. The MMCs, and FMC, are strong and personable. The POV switches between the 2.5 MCs.
This was such a fantastic read let’s just get that out in the open first.
So the main girl is Kenzie and she’s been living her life the same way with the same routine since she was a little girl. All until Crane (main male character) shows up and slowly starts making things a little more interesting.
If you enjoy a gory romance I recommend this for you. Once you start your not gonna want to put it down.
Halloween reads have never been something I'm drawn to however the tale of the headless horseman was one of my favorites growing up. Kendra and Poppy just have a way of writing that draws readers into their world. With funny and entertaining characters, hotness that just doesn't quit, and a touch of gore, Head Case is sure to pull you in and not let you go until you're done. Highly recommend especially if you're looking for something a little different this Halloween season!
This is fantastic. Headcase is a retelling of The Headless Horseman but with a twist. You will not be disappointed reading this it is funny and very steamy in places. Kenzie is a resident of Whisperwoods where she has spent all her life, enter Crane he checks himself in after an odd meeting in a bar, the two hit it off immediately and then strange things start to happen and all will be revealed on Halloween. I highly recommend that you read this book. Heads will roll
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
What a unique retelling of The Headless Horseman. Although it is a little darker than I normally read, I enjoyed the book. I loved the relationships between Kenize and Mitzi, Kenzie and Danny and Gina and of course between Kenzie and Crane.
There are some graphic scenes (sex and violence), but the book has a good story line. And an honest look inside an sanatorium and how some of the patients were treated.
When you start this book, you get an instant connection with Crane, poor guy... and then you meet Kenzie and you want to know why, these are the reasons you keep on reading and then you keep on reading because it's just that amazing!
It's a bit bloody and limbs can fly around without the body attached to it, but it's a must read for every Halloween lover, lover of Sleepy Hollow stories or just love reading.
Ok this book was wow. It was kinda dark. Not in an abuse way just murder. But I’m suprised how very much I enjoyed this book. Cause I did. I enjoyed it sooo very much. A legend about the horseman. Sleepy hollow and a mental institution. The characters were awesome the plot was definitely different and definitely worth the read. I love all the main characters and Danny.
Wow this writing due killed it with the book. Never have I wanted to be in a sanitarium more. Crane and H are my new book boyfriends. This book makes you think that maybe being crazy isn't so bad.
This book was full of great characters and you will fall in love with all them. This book is funny, crazy and super steamy.
You need to read this book. If not you may be crazier than the people in whisperwood.
No spoilers of any kind included. So all I’m going to say about Head Case is I thought it was awesome. Poppy Woods and Kendra Moreno make an amazing story weaving team so amazing that I’m always looking forward to more of their blended work and I’m always impatiently waiting for it to happen. So it’s a big HECK YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book to anyone who is searching for a fantastic story to climb into.
Where to start? This book is gory, which I normally don't like. I've recently found that I do like the gore in Kendra Moreno's books (and this co-write with Poppy Woods) as it is used to enrich the characters or create some awesomely funny antics. I didn't know how the headless horseman could be sexy, but I loved Crane, H, and Kenzie so much! I hope Mitzie gets her own story! This book is an awesome, steamy, horror comedy!

I've never actually read a Halloween themed book, but WOW, I'll be rereading this every year! I'm a bit particular about female main characters, I like them to have a solid head on their shoulders (no pun intended). I loved the FMC, Kenzie, from the start. She was strong and independant, yet a constant source of comic relief. I loved the progression of her relationship with H, especially the steaminess. The action was awesome and the ending was so good. Great read!
Mind your head! What a fantastic study of a descent (or not) into madness. Crane thinks he’s crazy. Kenzie knows she’s not. But they’re both in a mental hospital and surrounded by staff that do not have their best interests at heart. And then there’s Mitzy, who truly does seem to be insane. Loved her! This book is not for the feint of heart but if you like steamy us-against-the-a*holes and lots of blood and violence then get. this. book. Poppy and Kendra are magic together.
OMG!! This story is absolutely, freaking AWESOME!! Headless horseman with an amazing twist, this book has everything - I could not put it down and was completely addicted from the 1st page. And Kenzie and Crane, such a funny, bloody, gory and steamy love story. Poppy and Kendra - hands down the best book I've read in a long time and a perfect example of why I love to read!! This is must read for any fan of Sleepy Hollow!
I'm writing this review, but honestly, just go get the book. No need to know more than that. But, if you insist, here's some info. The book is a multi POV following Kenzie, Crane, and H. The switching between H and Crane is well done and easy to decipher. Quite a few steamy scenes are in here along with some murdery parts. If either bother you, skip it. If you're like me and love the sections with blood and sex, then go start it now.
I never imagined the legend of Sleepy Hollow being quite like this and I LOVE this version!!!! There is seriously nothing that I didn’t love about it. Kenzie’s smart witted insults were hilarious! I loved how even Mitzy’s character is brought even more to life with H near the end, although I was hoping to see her at the very end too. I seriously just couldn’t get enough of this!!! Well done ladies!!!
