As she watches harrowing videos on TV of American 11 missing the North Tower by mere feet, a mysterious visitor enters her apartment. possessing stunning knowledge about the future. Leveraging this information, Padma becomes the world’s wealthiest person and de facto “Empress of America” until a new authoritarian challenges her rule and forces her and the visitor from the future to escape into the past – through the Time Tunnel.

An accident in the Time Tunnel throws the couple hopelessly off course. Lost in time, they use their knowledge of the future to change the outcome of one of history’s most heinous massacres. Disappointing

This sequel to " Time Tunnel: The Twin Towers " was somewhat disappointing in that the first book ended in a cliffhanger which I hoped would be resolved. This book created more cliffs and more hangers so now I have to wait for the third. I wish I had known that from the beginning so I could have waited until the series was completed before starting which I much prefer to do. Otherwise it was entertaining.

What a huge disappointment this book was compared to the Twin Towers. I had assumed that it was a conscious decision on the author's part not to go into too much depth in certain areas of the first book to keep the pace of the novel swift. In this one, however, we are told about love stories blossoming, and others crumbling, but the author doesn't show this happening. So much of this novel remains undeveloped that the emotions and feeling and driving forces behind the protagonists from the first novel just appear to be absent here. Possibly more troubling is that in the first book, we know who we are rooting for, who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. But our heroes are now despots? Are we supposed to now dislike Kyle? Padma? Annika? Is the message that absolute power corrupts absolutely? I understand that with multiple timelines, the characters may be different based on the circumstances of each timeline, but everything is so underdeveloped here, that we lose touch with who is the protagonist and who is the antagonist. This character loves or hates this character, yada yada yada, now this character doesn't anymore. Just a big let-down. I will not be purchasing the third installment if or when it comes out.

Disappointing Second Volume

It is very difficult to believe that this second volume in the re-imagined Time Tunnel series by Richard Todd was written by the same author who penned the first. The first volume was pitch perfect - complex characters whom you could respect and even like, solid extrapolation of scientific theories into plausible fictional technologies, clever solutions to the classic and vexing time travel paradoxes, excellent pacing and dialogue. The second volume, which continues as if it is just the next chapter in the first book, effectively destroys any empathy the reader built up for the main characters, Kyle and Padma, making them not only unlikable but vapid, and then proceeds with a reimagining of an historical event that strains the credulity of the reader beyond even the original campy 60’s television series. Typo’s speak of hurried editing, and technical points are not as thoroughly researched. Strangely, the final chapters recapture a bit of the flavor of the first book, almost as if they were written first, but not enough to carry the day. Undecided if I will try volume 3.

Just wow! Put me on the list as a Richard Todd fan. I was wondering how he could keep the momentum of the first book going but I am pleased to say that he did just that.

9/11 is a topic I have researched to death in my own work so it holds a special place in my mind. I wouldn't say The Empire is better than The Twin Towers, but it is definitely equally as good. That is saying a lot as I thoroughly enjoyed the first book. This one throws the reader for a spin as it unexpectedly winds up in the wild (mid)-west just before the Massacre at Wounded Knee.

Once again, you grow to care about the characters and where their tales will lead. I would lie if I said I didn't get a little worried about where the romances were headed in certain spots. Luckily, everything ended up as I had hoped so I wasn't left unsatisfied by the end of the book. I am happy to see that the series hasn't reached its ending and eagerly await book 3! History junkies such as my self are in for a wild ride. Well done once again, Mr Todd.

Wow Just Wow!

Absolutely loved this book. It was even more exciting than the Twin Towers one. Padma has become a billionaire due to the knowledge she gained from Kyle traveling to the past. Kyle is still with her but living under an assumed name because he doesn't want anyone to know he's alive. Once again they travel into the past and the adventure never stops. This book was so fast paced I could not stop reading. Ready for the next one!

Great to Grime

Book One was awesome.. book two was drivel. Obviously the author needs money. Pathetic and pointless. I am very disappointed. There was great promise. ..

One-third 1890s history lesson.

I enjoyed the first book but this storyline is boring and not believable. Our heros get accidentally transported to 1890 where they enthusiastically proceed to change the outcome of key battles between the US Cavalry and native Americans, creating Timeline 3. They reveal they are from the future, introduce modern weapons, create a goddess, etc. When they’re wrenched back to Timeline 2 they’re shocked...just shocked that the map of the US is now very, very different. No.

This, book 2 of the Time Tunnel series, is an entertaining and action-packed story. The characters are well-developed and the world is well-described. I was stunned by the ending and can hardly wait to read book 3. I highly recommend the series and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This book was all over the place. The setup to get them into the time machine was terrible. Once they were there the main female protagonist suddenly started acting completely out of character and the end was very strange.

A fun read, but went a little off the tracks for me. Was still good, and I had to see how it ended, but got a little silly for me. (To be fair though, it's a time travel book, what was I expecting?_

You never know what you are going to get in a second book in a series. This one was surprising and I loved it! It went in a very different direction but like the first one, was well researched and blended in accurate and sometimes rarely know true historical facts. I really appreciated that. I enjoyed where the Author went with this one. I won't give spoilers but there was a lot of satisfaction in this alternate history too!

Stunning changing histories

With the return of Kyle and his beloved Padma the trek takes the reader to the last of the dying race of the Lakota People of the plains and Sitting Bull. How will they save the starving people from the Troops intent on annihilating them and how will history change because of their presence?

I couldn’t finish

I struggled through 100+ pages in the vain hope that somehow the storyline, the character development, the physics “principles “… something, anything, would improve. But nope. The whole undertaking is preposterous. Maybe the first draft should have been done by Chat AI or a middle schooler.

Time to do another revision for an audience of one but I will at least sound somewhat literate and need not spend effort to decipher my own scribbles. Since my mad commenters were so incensed by my personal record of Kindle recommendations, it pleases me that the rewrites will more completely annoy them.

As has become my routine I watched YouTube to prepare myself mentally for this chore. I saw a Village Idiot who whilst insulting a trans creator I listed, complain to her that I include trans creators in my lists. I am no longer surprised at the lack of self-awareness US males display. These channels include primatologist, tall, cis, socialist, Irish, bi, economist, historian, het, redhaired, trans, psychologist, mathematician, married, asexual, German, boater, gay, hobbyist, communist, WOC, older and other female creators or as the sane name them Women. Almost as disturbing the channels include other BIPOC, anarchist, blond, gamer, archaeologist, Danish, artist, physicist, modeller, other LGBTQI, linguist, anthropologist, ginger, neurodivergent and other creators. known by the sane as Human Beings. If the voices still demand that you visit these, please seek emergency therapy, immediately seek remedial socialisation or our Catholic exorcism. My feelings towards that Idiot and his fellows are similar to that of the 13 Ukrainian marines defending Snake Island, when their surrender was demanded by the Russian navy. Their response was "Russian warship, go f@ck yourself." Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the Heroes. Crimea is Ukraine.

The book revisits the concept of a tunnel which allows for travel back and forth through time. It is a difficult premise requiring careful consideration of altering the characters' present, limitations on travel and defining the purpose of its use.

Unfortunately the entire premise is that by another means, the US empire is reborn. This and many similar books pretend that while dying, the current US empire does not exist.

The core of the plot is the conceit that the USA are the most responsible, the most free, the most moral power on the planet. This is the foundation of what little worldbuilding is done on most of US science fiction. At this point even US citizens must be done with that torn and tattered image. As of this writing, no country on the globe considers the US to be even a dependable trade partner.

The main character is the widow of a "real American", who inherits the position of Empress of the world. This device which I have also seen in other books, should offend many Goodreads members. I suspect that to those and the liberals, this is to demonstrate that the Racism is solved. As Nikki Haley (Republican presidential candidate) stated in a televised rally "America is not and has never been a racist country". 250 years of enslavement of a population and genocide of indigenous peoples were probably just a lark.

The writer created a US empire based on control of time. This is at best hubris worthy of Time Lords and at worst another fantasy of USA forever. Having run out of ideas after the first book, he explores the results of his premise. He does it badly but agrees with the last quote by the late unlamented Henry Kissinger. "It does not matter, as long as the USA is Number One."

The science fiction fans seem to have special characteristics. The US portion are outraged by brown cartoon characters, rage against female protagonists, reject LGBTQI representation and find comfort in the forever empire which they steadfastly deny currently exists. The mental energy needed for those cognitive gymnastics stun me.

I realise that those readers would make great Russians. They embrace cruelty for the sake of cruelty. Their nationalism is cultish adoration of the Dear Leader, his Party and their perspective which from YouTube channels includes genocide against certain US populations.

Consider treating this as a potentially hostile site. 🤔

Goodreads discourse does not exist. As example, my last original review was a note to myself that the premise of Powers of the Earth was dangerous and unhealthy. That book is a poorly written homage to the psychotic January 6, 2021 hero. The plot consists of a rich twat enlisting the military in the overthrow of the US government because he does not believe that he should pay taxes on his inheritance. That is a popular theme in the "libertarian" fantasy that dominates US science fiction.

The writer, Travis Corcoran self-described as libertarian and advocate for the return of chattel slavery, veteran, admirer of Putin the Twisted and employee an unnamed US agency. He is a Hero ahead of His Time.

Travis and six fellow patriots were incensed by my communist opinion. There followed a year long stream of unhinged comments demanding my response. I was labelled a narcissist in not engaging with them. I do so hate irony.

Finally Claes Rees Jr aka cgr710 now ka Clayton R Jesse Jr wrote a comment declaring that They had "won" (?). It transpired that They and friends had launched a year long tsunami of truly vile sexual, anti-LGBTQ, racist and anti-socialist comments against channels which I mentioned which continues still. The archaeologist, hobbyist, boater, historian and many other female creators were not impressed. However the world's overabundance of unpleasantness was certainly increased and They did deliver a splendid self-portrait of the snowflake (proudly ignorant, vicious US man-child) to a multinational audience, which seems to them a Victory. Goodreads discourse, Yay ?? USA, Yay ??

I need a stepaway to rest before I continue. Tis next was made possible by YouTube channels - fig tree, Delamer, Leeja Miller, Truth to Power, 3rd Regiment SOF, Lena Down Under, Haropones, Katy Montgomerie, Red Viburnam Song, Shitty Book Club, RFU News, Paul Warburg, Booksaresick, Lily Simpson, Mia Mulder, Interesting Times, Kyiv Post, Ship Happens, Abel Montero, Autumn's Boutique, UATV, Roomies Digest, Steve Shives, Epimetheus, AllShorts, Up and Atom, Oliver Lugg, Never Back Down -Teresatessa, May, JuLingo, Perimeter Institute, Eileen, Nini Music, Royal Institution, Yoyomi, Silicon Curtain, Times Radio, Don't F@ck with Ukraine, Audrie Greywind, Brothers Gwynne, Business Basics, Eugenia from Ukraine, Depressed Russian, Caelan Conrad, Verilybitchie, Biz, DW News, Authentic Observer, Terrible Writing Advice, The Ritual Kitchen with Laura May, BobbyBroccoli, Art Deco, Liz Webster, Parkrose Permaculture, JammiDodger, JohnTheDuncan, Fantasy and World Music by the Fletchers, Anya Turnbull, Xiran Jay Zhao, Lily Alexandre, Jabzy, Kiko1006, Ro Ramdin, Yarmak -Ragnarok, Mandy, Natasha's Adventures, Kazachka, Valhalla Drums, Gutsick Gibbon, Ben G Thomas, Bookslike Whoa, Weirdo Book Club, Lily Simpson, Nomadic Crobot, Travelling K, Camper Vibe, Well Deck Diaries, Jared Henderson, Angelisa Reads, Megalithhunter, Agro Squirrel Narrates, Battle Order, The Great War, Military Aviation History, TIKHistory, Inside Russia, Dr Fatima, Emilie's Literary Corner, Fraser Cain, Tale Foundry, LIbrary of a Viking, The Norse Witch.

There is an eleven or twelve year old survey of the pool from which these fans are drawn, in which 80%+ of white Americans do not approve of the "racism," yet in the same poll 70-80% agreed with every white nationalist talking point in the survey. Unfortunately Britain have successfully imported the US perspective and public language, which can only be the prelude to Britain's full descent into the North American madness. The white race rioters and the sad reactions from Boston (East Midlands) voters to Brexit still, should be proof enough.

The aggrieved US males in love with this and other US hegemonic fiction are quite serious about their racial superiority, with a definition akin to the 19th and mid 20th century British conceit of the Wog. The term Eurotrash is now acceptable in US fiction but more significantly the concept and perspective is universal in these low end gems. I base this on 1000+ Kindle titles attempted. I finally dropped Unlimited as a useless sub.

I have earned a pleasant YouTube reset before I continue. This next was courtesy of May, Times Radio, OliviaReadsaLatte, AllShorts, Supertanskiii, No Justice, Hoots, Cindy's Villa, Hypohystericalhistory, The Welsh Viking, Absolute History, Broken Peach, Talking Tudors, Progress Science Documentaries, The Kavernacle, FAFO,

I noticed writers recently labelling main characters as women, young girls and occasionally women of colour. They always embody the same disdain for other female characters, all working class characters and dismissal of non-US character, if any there be as do their male counterparts. That was/is the brilliant (and not at all transparent) solution for avoiding any recognition of misogyny or racism in the books. For US readers it may even suffice. The ratings for these books display a lack of critical thinking and possibly explain the ability of a Trump to be elected.

Low end US science fiction comes in three flavours only. The Somewhat Serviceable, The No Effort, The Truly Abhorrent. I feel that this book leans towards The Truly Abhorrent. There are a fair number of these poorly written political tracts posing as fiction. Goodreads serve only to enforce consensus or silence. Jared Henderson and Alisha not Alihsha both did good videos on this topic.

At this point, for the first time I now watch my science fiction. The stories are better written and more interesting, even when the political underpinning is almost as bad. YouTube are host to many good Shorts channels, DUST and Omeleto are two. In addition my most impactful find was the BookTube. 😍 These communities are of readers in love with all things bookish, they are opposite to whatever Goodreads have become.

Ominous music begins. 😊 My final experience above with comment gangs was a bit more intense than others but not special until the Australian intervention. One or two star reader judgements may attract a gang's attention. BookTubers have experienced same from our friends at Goodreads. Romance and romantasy not uncommonly boast member groups willing to stalk, doxx, threaten readers and those associated with them. At least these lost souls have read the bloody books.

From my experiences and comment clouds directed at others, I suspect that it also occurs commonly against science fiction reviewers. Most of my attack commenters had nothing of the genre on their shelves. In all cases the "defence" is directly concerned with defending racist, misogynist and Ethno-supremacist story premises, themes, character portrayals, etc. Amazon do not acknowledge the incidents, discipline members, punish writers who sometimes lead gangs or dismiss employees who enable them.

My most extreme example involved Amazon/Kindle delivering my limited Goodreads message history to these poorly socialised maniacs. There followed a request of Australian Intelligence through Pine Gap to interrogate the one friend whom I occasionally messaged to uncover my personal history. The attempt failed and two customers were left outraged. It only concerned Amazon when we publicised the event. At that point all harassment visible to others disappeared from my pages, though it seems to have resurfaced. The distortion to my keyboard has not returned yet.

This behaviour is not unique to Amazon. Recently a seventh ex-employee of EBay was sentenced for the months long harassment of a couple producing a small ecommerce channel deemed unkind to EBay. The couple were awarded multi-millions of pounds, the ex-employee was EBay a chief of Security. These are things to consider.

I was raised in a poverty which none of these morons can imagine. Yet these fine lads and their lady friends perform pointless nastiness which before Goodreads I had never thought possible.

I recommend a transfer to a non-Amazon reader, move to alternative reader forums and certain precautions until then.

Remove all personal information from Goodreads profile and avoid the messaging function. Remove lurkers, those who never post. They are monitors not admirers.
Given the Goodreads penchant for Alterations to customer pages with no explanation, screenshots of the odd, the ugly or threatening care invaluable.

Do Not use Kindle Email, Files, Calendar or Contacts. If my experience concerns you at all, no explanation is needed. All searches on Kindle should be innocuous and non-critical. Do Not "purchase" Amazon ebooks since your purchase is actually a lease, which can be altered or removed at Amazon's whim. Amazon will read your email with no notice if you use the email function.

You may enjoy temporary immunity but it rests on the whims of deranged employees and members alike. They embrace no recognisable morality, are only restrained by system logs and are US patriots with all that implies. Ominous music ends. 😊

While I felt the first book in this series was off the charts, I was very disappointed with the second book. As I didn’t care for Padma, the wife of the protagonist, in the first book, I was particularly turned off to the idea of this obnoxious and irritating character having a much larger role in the second book. In addition, the nonstop action and fascinating storyline of the first book seemed to have fizzled out by Book Two. Indeed, it might have been for the best if the author had stopped after the publication of the first book in the series.

Time Travel with Changed History

Many time travel books are based on the premise that you can’t really change history. In this book you can, and it makes for some interesting speculation about what would happen if...
Although character dialogue and development isn’t as deep as it could be, this book still entertains and I now look forward to reading the third book. I will have to check to see if there IS a 3rd book out yet. Read book one first or you will be lost in book two.

Fast paced and fun

The second installment of Time Tunnel, “Empire” does not disappoint. Fascinating 19th century historical references and lesson on the Lakota. A crucial character from the first book is reintroduced and will be a part of the third installment. This is a fast yarn and I am looking forward to number three... but I can’t give five stars because of gratuitous political virtue signaling in the first portion of this book. It was an unnecessary distraction.

I can actually just copy & paste the review I wrote for book 1:

I loved this. 4.5 stars.

Minus 1/2 star partly because the pictures/attachments/illustrations were not legible in the e-book. There must be a way to remedy this!

Also because I really don't need a hot romance in order to find a novel -- especially a sci-fi or time travel novel -- riveting. It seems like every novel uses this as a handle to hold reader attention, and I'm tired of it.

This book is even better than the first one. The first half details exactly what might happen if tRump and his MAGAs attained total power. The second part tries to fix our shameful history of our expansionist cruelty towards the Native Americans. Massacring women and children is despicable. I can’t believe I cheered their total victory over the cruel army. Overall I enjoyed it very much and wizzed thru it in 2 days.

So far I would say the sequel improved upon the first book. I am only 33% through it so far though. I personally don't like the F word but it is easier to ignore in print than on video. I like learning history through novels. I love time travel movies so I thought I would try the novel. So far it's not riddled with type errors like other books I have read on my Kindle.

Take time to read

Time travel makes anything possible. This time travel plot is totally different than others you may have read. It weaves in accurate history as travelers intentionally change events. The characters are believable and the story moves at warp speed. Get ready for the ride!

This series was very well written. A mind-bending take on time travel.

Covers relatively current events and has very real characters. Makes one think - what if this one thing changed - what else would happen...

I personally don’t believe time travel is practical or possible - but hey - its a story!

This is why I love book series

Being book 2 in the series, Richard was able to jump right into it this time around. While I don't understand the underlying motivations of Kyle and Padma with what they are ultimately trying to do, I think the overall concept is great. This is a fun "what if" time travel book that I recommend for any fans of the genre. I look forward to #3

A Fun Follow up…

The second book in the “Time Tunnel” trilogy presented a story that could almost serve as a standalone tale. The author wrote the book in a manner that does not require the reader to have read the first book. Looking forward to the third and final book in the trilogy.

This story is as good as the first novel of this series. You might get whiplash careening backward & forward in time, but the trip just leaves you craving more.
