Abducted from her home just before her third birthday, Elizabeth is taken in by the Bennets. It is only with the arrival of a new tenant at Netherfield that her true identity is discovered. According to Mr Bennet, Elizabeth was found wandering in the gardens of Longbourn but will the truth of the matter ever be known?
Rating: PG-17 due to adult themes. Angst level: slight-to-low. Trope: Elizabeth is not a Bennet.
Elizabeth Darcy was taken from her loving home at the age of three. She and her twin brother dressed alike as toddlers did back then. The children were playing and, due to the dirty condition of her clothing, the villain thought she was a boy when he grabbed her. He drugged her and traveled to his destination, received his wages, handed over the baby, and left the area. It would be the next day before they discovered they had in fact absconded with a girl. Mrs. Bennet was not best pleased to have another girl in the house. Sixteen years later, Darcy was at an assembly and noticed a girl that looked exactly like his cousin’s mother’s portrait. Soon it was discovered that Elizabeth was, in fact, the long-lost Darcy cousin. The story quickly turned as several Lords and Mr. Darcy wanted answers as to how Elizabeth showed up at Longbourn. This twist was really different and there was a HEA for most of our characters, but not all.
This was really good. Well written, it needs a tiny bit of polishing. Personally, I would have liked some loose ends tied up. However, there were some really good story arches in this book.
In this P&P variation, the Bennets are so desperate for an heir that they arrange a kidnapping of a gentleman's son. Unfortunately this turns out to be Elizabeth Darcy, cousin to the Darcys of Pemberley. Then Darcy visits Netherfield. I admit that I didn't care for Mary Bennet's future pairing and so lost some interest in the story, and I would have liked to have read about the later events at Longbourn which I think would have been more interesting. A well-written story
