Nathaniel is an inmate locked away in a godforsaken prison submerged a mile beneath the ocean’s surface without any idea of the day, week, or year. He has been abused, tortured, and left to rot with one of the cruelest prison directors he has ever met. But a man can only take so much before he decides he is done.
He is certain he is no criminal, but he doesn’t want to be a hero either. Nate wants freedom, and he is determined to get it one way or another. Alongside Raven, Grayson, Atlas, and others, Nate decides to escape The Grøf. After he discerns that even the most secure prison has weaknesses, he begins formulating a strategy that will only be successful if the timing is perfect. But when he finally unfurls his plan, Nate discovers that freedom comes at a high cost.
In this exciting thriller, an inmate locked in an underwater prison formulates an escape plan that leads him and others on a dangerous journey from hell into the unknown.
The book is incredible, I started reading it a month ago and from the beginning I was caught with its plot and its characters. The author really knows how to get involved in the story and capture your attention so that you want to keep reading without stopping, plus all the chapters bring something new and exciting. Freedom is a book that will leave you wanting to know more and more, there are many twists in the story that leave you impressed and it is something that the author has managed to do very well. I really recommend this book, it is super interesting, full of action, mystery, suspense and it is not at all predictable, the more you read the more you will be surprised and the more you will love the book. Congratulations to the author it was a great job, can`t wait for the sequel to be published.
There are plenty of fiction authors who claim to be doing something different with the genre. Ironically, they often write the most predictable books of all, as evidenced by Collins and Paolini.
But this author is the exception to the rule.
The archetypal story of a hero, a villain, a profound love, and a world to be saved seems to be present in almost every book, for them it never gets old. Gale Pyke takes that type of storytelling and throw it out the window.
If you want to read something fresh and different, then don´t think twice before picking up this masterpiece. It´s a page turner since the beginning to the end. The author is capable of describing every aspect of the environment in a way that makes you feel inside the book. In this day and age there are few books capable of giving you that feeling. I´m looking forward for the next book of the saga, so hurry up Gale! We are waiting!
When I purchased Freedom I thought it would be that type of book that you only read the first pages and then you get bored or lose interest. Still, I decided to give it a try.
I can say that the plot is fascinating! Nate and the whole story around him makes you feel in an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end. Each of the chapters and characters surprises you and shows you something unexpected. You can easily feel part of the story.
Few writers can tell you a story without making it predictable or without making you remember another book from the same genre. But I can assure you that Gale Pyke did it with Freedom. The plot surrounds you from the first pages and makes you curious. In my personal experience, you have this nagging feeling of knowing what’s gonna happen.
Also the detailed explanations that the author uses to describe places, characters, and sceneries is really AWESOME! He leaves almost nothing to randomness. That kind of details make some chapters not so easy to read, however those chapters are equally impressive.
Finally, some current novels have lost details such as putting a name at the beginning of a chapter. This writer not only does that but also quotes dialogues from famous movies or TV series. For me, these details that may be unnoticed by some, give a unique and original touch to the book.
Anxious to see the second book of this trilogy. Congrats Gale Pyke! This was a great debut!
You'd think that with so many fiction, fantasy and action books out there there is nothing that's actually interesting anymore or that hasn't been created yet. I had the same mindset just a year ago. When I first started Freedom I thought I wasn't going to be invested in it as much as other novels and shows I was interested in. Needless to say, I've never been so wrong in my life.
One would think that because this is Pyke's first novel, it would be cliché or perhaps just a mixture of previous book plots. Once again, of course I was wrong. It's like he has created an entire new genre in ONE single book. Plot twists, cliffhangers, humor, gore, action, ... you name it. Freedom has it all. Freedom is unique. It's not like anything I have encountered before. Guess one really mustn't judge a book by its cover.
Gale Pyke has a whole new dimension encompassed in his mind. He has been able to convert regular-everyday aspects of life into much more interesting adventures. His ability to merge fiction with actual science (not in a boring way I promise) demonstrates just how much potential he has in literature. Definitely worth a read.
If you want to read something different that not only has you gripping the edge of your seat but also sprawled on the floor from shock and amazement, Freedom is definitely what you're looking for.
