America Offline #2

America Offline: System Failure

Rate this book
A week after a cyber-attack crippled America's power grid, millions are dead--frozen by the worst winter storm in a century, irradiated by exploding nuclear power plants, or murdered by ruthless criminals. Millions more starve and battle for survival amidst the ever-worsening conditions.

Despite the long odds, Nate Bauer is determined to do whatever it takes to reach his pregnant wife and family in Chicago. Joining him on this perilous journey is fifteen-year-old Dakota, a young prepper on a mission to find her uncle.

Braving the frozen wastes of Illinois, however, may be the least of their worries, since the road to salvation runs directly through the heart of America's most dangerous city.

I've always enjoyed William H. Weber's novels and this one is no different. This is book two in a four book series following Nate and his family as they struggle to survive in the Chicagoland area during a winter storm and an EMP attack that has shut down the power grid nationwide. These are easy to read, interesting, and with plenty of action sequences to keep the read excited. As I aim to finish up Weber's catalog this month I have to ask, "William!! What's coming next!?"

Good and Evil

What I liked about this series is that if you kept your priorities straight and in line with true values things will work out. Also family isn't just blood relatives. It is those that create a bond to protect, help, and love one another. This story is more than apocalypse story. Its how I think we should treat others.

Plot armor so thick you couldn’t cut it with a butchers knife. Dakota is like a trained soldier even though she never stayed in a home long enough to learn anything. And she must be the prettiest girl to ever exist with how often chick gets kidnapped, even though plenty of other women don’t even get threatened. And Holly’s storyline? Her connection to the family? Utterly ridiculous

Average to good

After enjoying the first book I struggled a little bit with this one. There were larger sections of the storyline where I found my attention wandering a lot and I found it difficult to keep myself interested in the story.

Another homerun for Mr. WEBER

Another great series! Great storyline and outstanding characters. I have several books downloaded but cannot seem to get to them, at least not until I read every book/series Mr. Weber has published. Yes I do recommend this book to all.

Awesome!

Just started reading these type of books and this series was both realistic and in a scary what if sort of way but gives you hope that there are always good people out there.Plus, just a darn good story!

Book 2

Good reading, interesting subject. Well researched which makes UT a great page turner. The author lets you know the characters and has them interact with each other. This book has a surprise ending which was nice to see. Can't wait to read more.

Continuing straight after the events of book one, Nate, Dakota and Shadow are still looking for Dakota's uncle and Nate's wife. This time rather than just being Nate's view, it introduces Holly, who is looking for Nate.

Good

Lots of action, good story, along the story, the reason for four stars, it could get a little cheesy. But I did enjoy .

In general a decent book that kept my attention. However, I don't think the writing or storyline is anything earth shattering.

hated the mary / holly plot reveal and how he dumbed down holly especially since it was so predictable (like everything else in book 2)
