Never has a book been harder to stay mindful while reading. There is so much repetition in this book that it could have been half as long. For example-there are 13 pages dedicated to breathing...if you have ever dealt with breathing techniques, you can just skip it. Also the book frequently restates that being mindful is beneficial to your health and you should use your breathing to help calm your mind. I think it's a fair assumption that most people who would be interested in this book already know these 2 facts. It was also annoying that almost all of the routines and practices tell you to close your eyes on step one...so you're better off just googling mindfulness techniques to help whatever you are trying to target (awareness, anxiety, etc) and then watching a guided YouTube video using that practice you were curious about. Of the 173 pages of text, only about 5-10 were interesting and I found none of it more helpful than a good guided meditation from an app.

Beautiful resource that walks you through mindfulness- I highly recommend!

I'm fairly new to mindfulness, and although I'm convinced of it's benefits, I'd never taken it any further as I didn't really know where or how to start. But this book has completely de-mystified it for me.

The book takes you through why we might use mindfulness, what mindfulness is, then- in super clear and understandable language- takes you through some mindfulness practices step by step. It then expands on how to integrate this into your life in areas such as work, travel, eating, morning and evening routines and family life. There's a chapter at the end about how mindfulness can help with health conditions (depression, anxiety and chronic pain) and then a helpful list of further resources and websites. The author, Annika Rose, also has further material on her website to support the book (I found the workplace tips very helpful) and I've been following her on Instagram for regular doses of positivity.

The book itself is beautifully laid out- thick, quality pages, colour pictures on every page, introductory boxes, checklists at the end of chapters and top tips in green circles throughout. Each new section is marked by an illustrated colour double spread. It makes it easy to read and feels like a really nice resource you'll want to go back to again and again. And the binding is really unusual (see photos)- it's spiral bound, but hidden in a spine. This is a really thoughtful touch, as it means the book looks good on the shelf but lays completely flat when you use it, so you can relax and follow the step-by-step instructions.

The Author's voice is kind, very affirming and really clear. I feel as though Annika Rose has held me by the hand and gently walked me through this topic in such a way that I am now encouraged and equipped to make mindfulness part of my life and start reaping the benefits of a kinder, happier, more peaceful me.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to stop living on autopilot or in "reaction" mode, and instead, go about their life in a more present, peaceful and mindful way.
