“You only get one chance to make a first impression.”
When Charlie Lawrence meets his neighbor, it’s not good.
Lanie Kelly is a small town girl who loves contemporary rock n’ roll; lives the night owl life; and craves peace and quiet.
Charlie is a city boy who loves country western music; sunrise walks with his dogs; and woodworking with his collection of power tools.
They share a driveway and little else.
Sparks fly as summer heats up and a thunderstorm drops a tree on Charlie’s house. As their relationship begins to blossom, a fifty year old family feud and a toxic ex-lover test its strength.
With hearts and homes on the line, Lanie and Charlie must decide to give up or…

With chemistry that pulsates off the page and draws readers in like a rock-n-roll ballad at a favorite concert, “Get Away Closer” is a romantic comedy destined to go platinum!
Get Away Closer tells the story of an opposite pair (early bird and night-owl) living next door to each other, both with elderly grandmas in the local vicinity. I loved how they first met and Lanie's grumpiness when she was woken up. Their relationship is a slow-burning one although, when it moves, it moves. I loved the descriptions Ms. Pratt gives us in the book - of the storms, the blanket, the wood, and sky blue, pink, and purple.
Ms. Pratt also manages to show the reader how grandparents can be different with their peers than they are with their grandchildren! Out of the two, I will admit to feeling sorry for Esther more than Irene, but both these ladies know how to hold a grudge.
This is a lighter read than some of Ms. Pratt's works but she details magnificently how a 'big, strong man' can be abused, and how it makes him feel. I thought this covered the subject beautifully and even read parts out to my young daughters, as I feel it is important for them to understand that bullying is not just by one sex.
This was a wonderful story that kept my attention and the pages turning. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this story or, indeed, any other of Ms. Pratt's works. Brilliant.

It's a delightful read, that kept me fully engaged from start to finish!
I loved Lanie's expletives, they made me chuckle, they really did. I loved that Charlie was quick to try to appease the grumpy neighbour by keeping quiet first thing in the morning, but also that it enabled Charlie to refind his joy at using his grandad's hand tools.
I LOVED the thing with the grandmas! I must admit, I saw that coming at me a mile off, but I didn't quite see it going down like that and Charlie and Lanie finding out in the manner they did.
It's not overly explicit, but then again, Pratt's work never is, but it's not about that. Its about the getting to know someone, and the falling in love with someone. It's about the emotions involved in a new relationship, for Charlie especially here rather than the physical aspect.
And OH!!
That cover is just PERFECT! I love the covers this author uses, I really do.
He's country - she's rock & roll. Charlie is a high school shop teacher and woodworker, and the survivor of an abusive relationship. Lanie is the singer/drummer in a rock band. He's getting up in the morning around the time that she's going to bed. Their first meeting was less than impressive, but they eventually begin to warm up to each other. This is my first read from this author, and all I can say is, what took me so long? I could not put this book down once I started reading. I dragged y iPad all over the house as I did my chores and ate lunch. Despite their shaky introduction, there's a ton of attraction between Charlie and Lanie, and once they get past their obvious differences, they actually have a lot in common. I'm impressed that his abusive relationship was dealt with in a sensitive manner. Unbeknownst to them, their grandmothers, who live in the same senior community, have a 50-year-old hate fest going on. I love how that situation is handled. I'm looking forward to more from this author.

Lanie is a member of the band, Ginger Sapphire and has just returned from touring. When she is dragged from sleep by the noise next door, she is not happy and goes to let her neighbor know, Will Lanie and Charlie ever be friends or something more? Grab your copy and read along as they spend time getting to know each other. I loved that the story had a side story involving the grandmother’s of Lanie and Charlie. If you’re looking for a story that deals with several issues and keeps you flipping the pages to learn more, then you won’t be disappointed with this book.

A gloriously sweet and sassy read! Get Away Closer is a true romance, the kind that scoots around sex and concentrates more on the important things. This is what makes it a delight to read, the slow burn between two people that builds into something neither expected. A shared family history that won't be put to rest easily, not with two strong-willed grandmothers being mighty stubborn!!
Get Away Closer is perfect for a lazy afternoon read, cuppa in hand and wrapped in your favourite blanket.

Get Away Closer is a contemporary romance by S.H. Pratt. This author has provided readers with a well-written book populated with outstanding characters. It is written in first person, alternating point of view format, not my favorite and the reason I rated it a 3 instead of 4. Charlie and Lanie's story is packed with drama, humor and spice. I enjoyed this book. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

This lighthearted, sweet, and fun book was just I needed with everything going on! The characters are well written and relatable, and the book itself just flows well. I LOVE that MFC is the rocker for a change, and I just love her!! Well worth the read!

What an amazing heartfelt book. These characters grabbed my heart and filled it to the brim with love. The Grandmother's were awesome in their snarkyness. This is a must read.
I enjoyed this book. The characters were fantastic. The storyline was good. I just never emotionally connected and that's the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars..
