If you are looking for gentle romps through the flowers, with lovers holding hands and never making mistakes, then my books are not for you.

I don't write heroes or heroines, I write people with baggage, history and problems. My characters are flawed, they're messy, they make disastrous mistakes that are hard to come back from. My stories are not sweet or kind, they are dark and, at times, cruel. They deal with uncomfortable subjects and I do not apologise for it.

If you like plot twists, characters you don't think you'll ever grow to love but eventually do, sarcasm, dark paths and messy relationships, then come on in. The water may be deep and shark-infested, but I know the way out ...I promise.

4.25 STARS, on the hunt for more ★★★★✩
This book is for you … even if you might not have enjoyed the previous book much. TW: r*pe, but this time framed as such and not an okay thing to do.

Overall.
Absolutely loved this novella as it is a pretty decent one. I always find the format tricky since I'm neither a fan of too short or extremely long books. Midnight Hunt, however, is a very good specibook, so to speak. It gives further insights into the life of Midnight Pack and has an interesting and fast-paced plot to offer to the reader.

Again, there is r*pe involved. Bodily functions aren't easily controlled, so just because someone rubbed your prick long enough for it to get hard doesn't mean you consent to the intercourse. I feel like male r*pe victims are widely underrepresented (in real life and in fiction) and am 'glad' this issue received attention.

I'm really excited to see how the story continues; it's going to be a tough challenge to make the collectors, a new party introduced at the beginning of the novella, look even more horrific than the hunter's sect.

I canNOT wait to continue the story because this was nothing more than a teaser of what's to come - I'm excited about Jaden and Sky' story.

What’s happening.
It is time for the new women in the pack - Cassie, Gemma and Ava - to become official members by participating in the Hunt. While following the tradition to welcome his new packmates, Jaden comes across a familiar scent at the borders of their territory, together with Isabella. They walk right into the trap and are abducted by collectors, a group of people even the hunters fear. Now, every minute counts to get them back.

It’s time to complete the pack bond. Midnight hunt gives us a glimpse at all the couples and a new villain to hate. Accepting mates and accepting the pack is just the beginning.

This book is an extra to the series and I wouldn’t recommend it as a standalone. The audiobook is in keeping with the series and done nicely.

Free audiobook with no obligation to review from the author. I’m really enjoying this series and look forward to the next instalment.

Trigger Warning for Rape

This book has me super conflicted. This like the epilogue of book three could have been expanded into its own book. Especially if there was going to be a second trilogy anyways a full length book to bridge the gap wouldn’t have been bad.

I always liked Izzy because she was complicated so this happening to her makes me angry but I’ll allow it.

I really want Asher and Roxi but also I can wait because clearly what happened here needs some resolution. (However stretching that out through a book about another couple would have been awesome actually.)

Jaden and Skye is one that gives me complicated feelings. On the one side Jaden is kidnapped and very clearly on page raped. While Skye is the ultimate recipient of his attentions however she’s also a captive and so it’s really a double removal of consent. There was a third person in the room that both stroked Jay to attention and was one of the kidnappers threaten death for those non compliant.

That it isn’t even hinted at in any warnings before is alarming given how questionable consent has been in the past as if animal shifting negates human decency.

A nice light novella that provides a nice ending so to speak for the last 3 books, as all 3 couples solidify their bonds to one another as the women accept being part of a pack.

I was hoping for some glimpses of the women and kids rescued, rather than them just being mentioned, so a little bummed that didn't happen.

Another awesome installment to the midnight pack!!!

You know you have read a great story when as soon as you finish it; you immediately rant at the author. Rant because the book ended and you were NOT ready for it to end!!!

I immediately feel in love with this series. There have been trials and tribulations, and some of the characters have been through hell and back. I was all settled in for what I thought would be lite easy read. Boy was I wrong! This book was gut wrenching, emotionally draining, no one was safe, and no there were no pulled no punches. I am speechless...my heart hurts, and I am angry at L. Ann for leaving me in this emotionally wrecked state. L. Ann has officially broken the sacred trust between reader and writer...😭😭😭😭

Of course this book has all our fave couples and characters, Deacon and Gemma, Shaun and Cassie, and Mac and Ava, Asher, Chase, Isabella, Roxie...but it was Jaden that stole the show...or story! This story took a turn I was not prepared for, no longer are we on a happy hunt...nope we are wrecked, rocking and sobbing in a corner. WHY L. ANN.... Is nothing sacred?

This short novella certainily packs a punch. It had it all, great story, suspense, a terrible evil ass bad guy, and of course, the pack! This was no lite easy read, it was complex, moving, upsetting (did I mention I ranted to the author?) and the ending is just evil. Evil 👿 writer genius.

"I'm sure. I want him to suffer, Mac. Like you did to the Hunter when you were younger. I want him to be a message to them all!" "And what is the message I'm sending, little wolf?" "That you cannot break Midnight," she hissed. "We will protect our own."

I am ready for some serious vengeance, I want blood, I want all these assholes taken down one by one!

Do I recommend? Yes!! Read the entire damn series! Will I keep reading, yes this is my second time through the entire series? Is this a standalone? Not really and there is a doozy of a cliffhanger! 😡

No, you didn't!
Sooooo no spoilers...
Means all I can do is rant and yell and suggest tissues and a teddy to cuddle ...
And NO throwing your readers just trust me -
You will want to know how this disaster plays out and believe it or not it's not Deacon's fault this time.

If you haven't read this series may I ask why?
It's got all the must-haves in a solid series
Great world building
A strong cast of characters
A solid story line that allows an engaging back story to play out for the long haul while spotlighting individual stories that captivate the reader and provoke all those "feels"
It's a bit like life I guess... though without the shifters and the hunters Oh 😲 and the collectors

3/5 - FYI: Graphic rape, on page... Legit, this book should have a major trigger warning!
-
This is not a dub-con situation or meant to be a dark paranormal romance series. There are serious situations in most of the books (however, it’s becoming obvious that each book is extremely formulaic, almost Frankenstein’s of each other). Why do I keep reading? DEACON.

AND, dear author stop blaming your editor for this book and what went down. In your second “authors note” you seemed more concerned about the order of the next releases and your readers hating you for a cliffy than the fucked up RAPE!

BLATANT RAPE! Is it ok because he is a male as the victim???

I rated the book 3/5 (high imo) bc I want Jaden to get his revenge. And Deacon and Gemma. Honestly they are the stars of the series, I could read many words about just them.

Readers: This book is a novella, it’s not meant to give the answers to all plot lines. Usually in romance books there’s an HEA or whatever but this novella clearly stated in the beginning that there would be a cliffhanger. I’m not mad about that, I’m mad about the content.

Here’s the cliff notes for this novella:

• The first authors note indicates her editor wants a story about everyone going on a ‘hunt’ together; and, Cassie, Gemma, and Ava being officially brought into the Pack. Ok it was the story in the beginning, not exciting really and I skimmed because it was very much the same story over and over. Then Isabella. Once again she has to blatantly disregard the orders of the Alpha and gets herself and Jaden in trouble. Bad trouble.

• Shaun and Cassie are so annoying now. Incredibly immature.

• Deacon and Gemma... for a while Deke was figuratively castrated, luckily he got his balls back. They are still my favorite couple. They seem to be the only couple that has real feelings. When bad stuff happens in their relationship they act appropriately. All the other characters seem to have the fake cry thing down to a science.

• Cormac and Ava are boring AF. I swear if I read “Alpha of the Pack” one more time I’ll throw my Kindle across the room. Ava’s reaction to Isabella’s death didn’t seem genuine based on the timeline — this novella picks up right after book three and the two hadn’t even really engaged in a heart to heart.

• Jaden... what a fucked up thing to write for a character. I get putting your characters through it BUT add a warning! Build up the why of the rape, this was not ok.

• Skye, hmmm... I don’t like her and I don’t really have compassion for her character. I do think she was forced into the situation but honestly I would have chosen death over raping another person. At least I would have died with a clear conscience not lived a life of selfishness. She knew full well she was in heat and would get pregnant. She knew her baby would be experimented on and if it survived and female, used to produce more cubs.

• Isabella, well that’s one way to deal with a character that’s only purpose was to be an antagonist but victim at the same time? And it frees up Chase to find his true mate? She deserved better even though I didn’t like her at all.

FYI: Did I mention RAPE?!!!!

Why are there so many 5/5 reviews but none mention rape AT ALL? They are all filled with gushing approval? Love a book but at least warn readers of content.

Totally loved this book. In some ways bringing a conclusion to the first three books and giving you a little peace of mind, that all ends well, until it doesnt. Several stories overlapping to entice you in for asher, Chase and jaden's stories, which I can't wait for. New dangers too close to home send the midnight pack on the hunt. Great characters, great book.

What could go wrong indeed!

I remember going to see Seven at the cinema, and at the end the entire theater just sat there in a stunned silence for ages before leaving. We just couldn't quite believe what we'd seen, but it was oh so good! That is what this book is going to do to you. In all the best ways!

I love this book! You can’t put this book down. I begged for it to be a full fledged novel as it totally engrossed me. You fall in love with the characters and they become your world. L Ann brings them to life and you feel their hurts, their pain, their needs and longings, and the love and protectiveness they have for each other. I fell in love with the Jacob Brothers in Midnight Touch and have read every book since. This is a must read series in my opinion. I’ve been there through each of them finding their mates, in each battle they’ve had to fight and shed tears for them. I can’t recommend this novella enough. It lays the base for even more books to come and each and every one of them will be on my MUST READ list! Read them. You will be glad that you did!

Fantastic and unique

I was so happy to receive an early copy of this book for my honest opinion.
Midnight Hunt was a great insight into pack life after midnight torment.
We get to see how the couples have settled into their new lives. The story starts with a welcoming ceremony for the new pack members to become permanent members within the pack. This part of the book was fantastic because it was so unique.

The pack then celebrates by going out on a hunt!
Well I’m going to leave it there because what follows just basically took me and rung me out.
Yes I screamed!!
Yes I shouted!!.
I also got a broken heart over the way this book played out for certain characters.
If you haven’t read the first three Midnight books get reading before you read this.
I challenge you not to love the midnight pack.
OH and I’m impatiently waiting for the next book.

This was just as wonderful as the rest, and has left me anxious for the next! Thrilling and terrifying in the most delicious way.

About half way through I had to walk away for a couple hours because I got genuinely scared for my trio of wolf boys... then I cheated. I left my place and went to the last page to see if they would be ok, before I could bring myself to read it all the way through.

No. I’m not gonna tell you. Only that keeping my heart in my chest where it belongs was seriously challenging. If you love the Midnight Pack series (and really, why wouldn’t you?), you are going to really, really want this in your life.

L. Ann, you delightful lady... when is the next one coming????

This book wasn't what I was expecting. I thought it would be about another character. Instead, it started out with perspectives of all the brothers and their mates. I loved it because it showed an added depth to what the pack was all about.

Then, it switched gears and laid the foundation to a different issue that the new characters would need to overcome. This was a smart move because I was curious how this world would have the strife or obstacles it needed for the drama aspect since the previous crisis had been solved.

Very much looking forward to the next book.

Short and sweet prequel and I loved the author's note explaining the purpose about the book and why it's a cliffie. The H is taken by evil OM and is forced to do something he hates. The repercussions are awful. Best of all, I have the next book where all is revealed.

This was a novella that serves as a bridge to the next book. This story gives a view into the Hunt when mates are brought into the pack. The dynamics of pack life continue to have details added and give the reader insight into it. I’m glad the next book was already published, because after the cliff hanger ending in this short story, it would have been terrible to have to wait it to see what happens with Jaden. On that note, I’m off to read more about the Midnight Pack.

You need to read the books in this series in order. It’s necessary in order to fully understand and appreciate what is going on within the story, characters, and world.

This Novella brings our three brothers and their mates together to welcome the women into the pack. It’s touching and emotional and gives you sweet moments with our favorite couples. Shaun and Cassie have come so far together. Deacon and Gemma are working things out a bit still but also have a moment where it truly clicks into place. Cormac and Ava have taken to each other flawlessly and work so well together.
This also sets up the next big hurdle and the next couple in the series. It jumps right into it and spits you back out on the other side.
I went from feeling happy and sappy with all the love to seeing red angry rapidly. Not at the book but at the situation. It broke my heart and made me fall so in love with Jaden, anxious to get to his book.

"She glared up at him defiantly, and he could see the madness in her eyes, smell it in her scent. There was only one way to deal with a rabid animal."

Cassie. Gemma. Ava. Now is their time to officially become pack and complete the bond with their mates and take their oath to the rest of their pack family. As the ritual is being completed and the Hunt begins, a new enemy is lurking in the shadows, threatening the pack. Who and what is the collector, and what does he want with the shifters? One will be lost, one will be found, and a new complication will be introduced.

This was a short read but what an amazing bridge to the next installment of the Midnight Pack series! I cannot wait to see what happens!!

Midnight Hunt

Nononono, she did not leave us hanging! Ok ok I am not an author but I do know the story takes them where it takes them. Wow! Alert alert, I’m going to tell some things in the book...don’t read further if you don’t want to know....The next book should be explosive! And it’s not Ashers story!!!

I’m mean “a collector “ took Izzie and Jaden! Wants Jaden for his Zoo. And Jaden was basically raped! Yes men can be raped.....and he was force mated. He is not a happy shifter right now. The only way to break a mating is if one of them dies. And to make it worse his new mate is in heat!!!

I am so in love with this series!!

As Cassie, Gemma and Ava join the pack and go on their first hunt, things turn sideways for the Midnight Pack. Can they find their missing member before it’s too late?

So much happened in this novella. Getting some healing for Gemma and Deacon helped soothe my heart. They deserve to be happy. The novella set in motion some things that will surely be important in the next book. I am so intrigued by Skye that I must start the next book now!!!!

As always the author knows how to bring you into the world she has created. She is able to add new elements and bad guys without it feeling forced. I want to know more about the collector and see justice served.

I love the Midnight Pack series and so pleased they are back. The brothers are back with their mates who are about to become part of the Midnight pack, although not everything in the evening goes to plan. This may be a shorter book in the series but its just as good as the previous books, with happiness, sadness and new enemies on the scene. This book is definitely worth reading especially as it prepares you for the next books in the series. This is definitely a series and author that i recommend.

This book will having you both loving and hating Ms. Ann. With the local Hunter Sect gone, what could she possibly bring us to feel for our favorite characters?? Well, she perfectly delivered on this one. Midnight Hunt gave me all the feels, and then when the new villain was introduced I was over the moon. I was shouting expletives at my tablet and hugging it. For being short, it’s not short on the feels. That ending was perfection! Why? Because you’re going to want to continue. Ms. Ann has brought together a pack that I’m just as in love with as I am with Ms. Charles’ pack.

Midnight Hunt is very well written. I actually forgot that it was a novella because the story was so rich. It was wonderful to experience going through being excepted into the pack with Ava, Gemma and Cassie. I loved the multiple points of view. There are a few twists in Midnight Hunt that definitely took me by surprise. The ending left me intrigued and eager to find out how things will ultimately turn out. Can’t wait for Jaden’s book.

* Just a little warning there is a trigger in this story. It is sad and upsetting but for me it didn’t break the story.

This series just keeps getting better and better with each book. Gemma, Cassie, and Ava are about to become part of the Midnight Pack and complete their bond with their mates. Of course, not everything goes as planned. This book is filled with adventure, enemies, and a captivating world of shifters. This series is amazing and a must read! Even though this book is short, it packs one heckuva punch. Midnight Hunt is Book 3.5 in the Midnight Pack series and is not intended to stand alone. The author brings pushes you to the edge, pulls you back to safety and then says nope, not today with one big shove. Lots of unexpected twists and turns and then ends with a cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see what L. Ann has in store for Jaden, Chase and the Midnight Pack.
