When a handsome stranger wanders into his bar one warm fall night, Zane Nolan is charmed by the archaeology professor.

Zane

Zane Nolan wasn’t lonely—how could he be? He’d made a success of his old man’s pub, his brother was happily married and lived nearby, his life was full. Complete. Besides, there were worse things than being alone, and Zane was never good at needing people anyway. Until one Indian summer night, when a handsome stranger wanders into the pub and gives him a taste of what he’s been missing.

Gray

Grayson Sloane spent his days digging up other people’s pasts—and he’s good at it. He was less good at finding his footing in a new town. And while he was convinced with his own contentment in the solitude of single life, at the urging of his nosy brother he found himself seated at the bar of the most beautiful man he’s ever seen. Single life is suddenly much less appealing.

As the two men’s connection deepens, Zane will discover that there are a few simple truths about love: it can sneak up on you when you least expect it, and it will level you without warning. But it can also save you, when you're lost.

AJ Lange pens romance and mystery novels in many sub-genres, but has the most fun writing m/m romance. She lives deep in the Southern Plains and when she’s not devising new ways to describe pectorals, she watercolors, reads, and naps.

She spends way too much time looking up at the stars.

I really, really like this one! I didn’t know exactly what to expect and for the first half it’s a lovely romance between Zane and Gray, with strong supporting characters and loads of witty, humorous dialogue. Zane thought he was straight I guess but falls into a relationship with Gray quite easily. A couple of niggles here; the author seems to have a hard time using the word bisexual, like not at all, and there’s some misogynistic phrasing I disliked but that’s my own issue and might not bother anyone else. The first half is rounded out with a touch of homophobic shunning by some friends of Zane’s, some snotty, class-obsessed relatives and an ex of Gray’s that needed to be smacked so hard. The building of passion and love are perfectly paced. Moderate steam.

Then suddenly, I found myself smacked in the face, in tears, my heart hurting for Zane as the second part of the book sucked me in. I won’t tell you what happens but the saddening, maddening part doesn’t drag out, the angst driving the plot just right without being overwhelming. By the end of the story I was happy and squishy with all the feels and humor and snark keeps things from feeling overly sweet. A thoroughly enjoyable romance with a satisfying emotional punch.

A Wonderful Love Story

I've read a few books by this author and had enjoyed them but this was by far my most favourite. I just loved Gray and Zane. I thought I was dying at one point when the tears flowed just a little too easily but slowly, my heart mended and all was right again. Such fine writing and I urge you to read this book. If I could give it more stars I would, five is just not enough.

This book is kind of hard for me to rate. There were some great moments, but the pacing didn’t work for me and the drama felt a little contrived. Plus, I don’t know why the Elise/Collin bombshell was dropped early on, but never really explained. I was definitely glued to the page for a good portion of the story though.

Loved it!

This book drew me in from the very first page and I couldn't put it down. It was heartbreaking and beautiful. My heart broke for Zane but true love finally prevailed in the end. I absolutely loved Zane and Gray and I didn't want their story to end.
