Delta Force Heroes #2

Un Héros pour Emily

Rate this book

Rescuing Emily is book two in the Delta Force Heroes series by Susan Stoker. This is my very first book by this author. It can be read as a complete stand alone. This is a single mom romance that has a little six year old girl that is going to completely steal your heart.

Cormac “Fletch” Fletcher is part of the Delta Force team. The men in his unit are like his brothers. Fletch has an empty apartment above his garage that he wants to rent out. When the beautiful woman shows up at his door to inquire about it, he feels instantly drawn to her. It’s evident she is struggling to provide for her and her daughter so Fletch offers her the apartment at a cheaper rate. He can provide her a safe place to live and she can watch over his house when he is away on missions.

Emily Grant would do anything for her six year old daughter, Annie. The apartment seems like a dream come true and she can’t deny living near the handsome landlord isn’t icing on the cake. Fletch is also so good with her daughter who can be a handful. But then everything is torn away from her when a man claiming to be Fletch’s friend begins blackmailing her. Now she can barely keep her daughter fed.

Once Fletch figures out what is going on, he has to prove himself to Emily. Prove that he’s not the man the blackmailer painted him to be. Emily has been used as a pawn by a man who wants revenge against Fletch and his team. And he’s willing to do anything to get it, including kidnapping the woman and child that Fletch has fallen in love with.

Little Annie pretty much stole the show in this book. She is so smart. She’s an adorable six year old that is obsessed with playing with military dolls and cars. Fletch never thought of himself as father material until this little girl came into his life. Now he would do anything for her and her mother, anything to keep them safe. I have to add here that you have to picture his entire team. Every one of them are huge, muscly, military men and little Annie has every one of them wrapped around her little finger.

This was such a sweet book. It’s sexy but also has a touch of suspense. Lack of communication can sometimes annoy me and there was a bit of that between Emily and Fletch but when the truth finally comes out, I loved how Fletch was just all in. He knew Emily and little Annie were it for him.

We get just a glimpse of the next book in the series, book three, Rescuing Harley, which is Beckett, “Coach’s” book.

“I feel like I’ve waited forever for you.”

This story was awesome! I think Annie is the new star of the series.

Part sweet, part heartbreaking, part intrigue, and part action - this book has something for every taste. For those looking for a hard core Spec Ops story - look elsewhere.

The story really shows how far a mother will go to protect and provide for her child. Emily is such an inspiring person and did such a fantastic job raising her daughter. Fletch showed how caring he could be in the beginning of the story and then showed how dimwitted he could be in the middle of the story and then once the cross purposes were cleared up, Fletch proved he could be the perfect match for Emily and Annie.

I love the way the author puts these stories together. Alpha males, strong females that need a little help once and a while, and friends that are as close or closer than brothers make for a story that will not let you put it down.

Grab any of Susan Stoker's books and be absorbed into an awesome tale.

**Audio reread**---a little spicier and a better epilogue and this would have been 5 stars! But, a novella is on tap for early next year so I am looking forward to that!

***** 4.5 good guys stars *****

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Susan Stoker has done it again. With this author, you're guaranteed an alpha man and a damsel in distress who isn't a weak victim. Romance and action. Not a lot of steam unfortunately, but a few hot scenes.

This time it is a young single mom named Emily who gets a sexy alpha Delta Force soldier. Cormac "Fletch" Fletcher has spent his military career dedicated to the Delta Force. He is strong, compassionate and tough. Noone is breaking through that tough guy exterior, except his new tenant Emily and her precocious little girl Annie.

Emily is struggling as a single mom. She is living in a seedy apartment complex and needs out asap. She sees an ad for a garage apartment. She never dreamed that the move would change her whole life.

-hot alpha delta force soldier
-great heroine
-funny 6 year old girl
-absolutely no cheating or ow/om drama
-totally devoted hero
-some spicy scenes, but not enough
-some pushing away by heroine but because of a misunderstanding
-fantastic seconday characters that I can't wait to read more about.
-cute epilogue, but nowhere near enough

I am an epilogue girl. I need them. I understand that the characters have some parts in subsequent books, but it just isn't the same for me. Although there was a cute, short one in this book, it was a HFN ending. If it was steamier and had a better epilogue, it would have been 5 stars for me.

This might be a re-read for me.

Emily is a single mother who would do anything and everything for her daughter, Annie.
Fletcher is a Delta Force soldier, who is renting an apartment over his garage, but he never expected these two girls to change his life.

This book was almost perfection. Fletch is caring, overprotective, possessive and sweet.
Emily was one of the best mothers I've ever read.
And Annie... That girl is so sweet and smart. I wish there would be a book of her.

There were actually only two things I didn't like too much, it didn't matter afterwards:

What I loved, adored, cherished about this book was this:

2.0 RATING- I know I'm in the minority here but this just didn't work for me. The entire plot just seemed silly. And the big misunderstanding between the hero and the heroine regarding the bad guy and the money, I just couldn't buy that any of that could happen. Just no. Ridiculous to me.

4 Stars!!

Emily is a single parent to Annie, her very precocious and exceptionally smart six-year-old daughter who is her number one priority. Emily answers an ad for a garage apartment rental owned by Delta Force Soldier Cormac Fletch. After getting to know Emily he feels something for both Mother and daughter that brings out the need to look after and protect both. He loves little Annie's inquisitive mind, and the fact that she loves anything military.

Fletch has an enemy who uses Emily to get back at Fletch by blackmailing her. Bad communication between Fletch and Emily has her hating him, she thinks he is letting her pay his debt to the vile man who has threatened her using Annie as his leverage. Eventually, the blackmailing takes a toll on Emily’s health and Annie seeks out Fletch out of fear for her mother. Once Fletch learns what’s going on and he clears up all the misunderstandings and immediately stakes his claim on both Emily and Annie.

 photo PicsArt_1481778968616_zpsf8awifny.jpg

However; his enemy is still out there and now he’s even angrier and has set his sights on Emily and little Annie to get his revenge against Fletch. Now it’s up to Fletch and the rest of his team to Rescue Emily and Annie.

All-in-all another great storyline, great main and secondary characters, hot dirty talking alpha, action, a sweet and loving young girl who steals the hearts of the entire Delta Force crew, and finally a touching HEA.

It isn’t often I’m so judgemental about characters, but seriously the heroine in this book is too stupid to live. And the frightening thing is that she has a child!

I’ve been a fan of Susan Stoker for a while, but the last couple of books Ive read by her have been a hot mess. Rescuing Emily isn’t any better.

Emily is looking for a safe place to live with her daugher. She finds an apartment above a garage, owned by Fletch, a Delta Force member. Seeing the desperation in her eyes (which made MY eyes roll), he cuts his rental rate. But an enemy of Fletch’s has a spy who overhears about his renter and hatches a plan to extort $200 a week from Emily. Emily, being basically TSTL falls for the outlandish extortion, and pays up. Also, doesn’t mention it to Fletch, or I don’t know, leave town...

But that’s not the only thing ridiculous about this story. When Fletch has Emily and Annie over for dinner one night, they discuss the recent school shooting that happened at Annie’s school. This is exhibit A of “how not to bring a socially relevant situation into your story” because it’s treated as an afterthought and there were SO many things about how the shooting went down that are so far outside the realm of realism that I seriously considered quitting the book. A reader can only roll their eyes so hard before those eyes get stuck in the top of their head and can no longer see the book in front of them…

Then the good guys figure out who the bad guy is with all the deduction skills of Lassie (a la barking dog and “what? Timmy fell in the well?"). “You mean someone is blackmailing you? It must be this guy who was mad at us for beating him during a training drill.”

I’m not sure why I continued to read this book. There was just too much...stupid. (And if you read any of my reviews, you KNOW I’m not usually this critical or harsh - this book just brought it out in me!) The only way I got through it was by skimming through large chunks, which I was willing to do because this is an author I’ve previously enjoyed. But perhaps my reading tastes have evolved, because this one didn’t work for me AT ALL. I’ll probably give Ms. Stoker another read or two, however if things don’t go better, I may have to call it quits on this author. 😢

*thank you to the author for providing a free copy of this book as a recipient of her newsletter, a review was not requested in exchange; if anyone ever doubts my ability to give my honest review when receiving a free book, this should prove that I can, and do... 😬

While I did like the story and most of the characters, mainly Fletch and his buddies, I had a really hard time accepting the whole blackmail scheme. She's a great mother, no doubt about it. She puts her child (Annie) first. She sells her belongings (what little she has) and starves herself but makes sure her daughter has a full stomach, all because out of the blue she's being blackmailed for something that has absolutely nothing to do with her. There's the threat that should she not comply, her daughter will be taken away by child services, or worse, share her daughter with Fletch's "friends.". I'm sorry but you've just been threatened and instead of dealing with it right away, which means talking to Fletch about the situation, you keep to yourself and comply with the blackmailer's demands, giving him $200 each week? I don't think so. I don't believe any mother would put up with that kind of shit. Starving yourself to the point of sickness, not enough energy to pick yourself up off the floor whereby your daughter is now alone, not in school and starving herself? To believe that if she doesn't pay that Fletcher will share her with his "friends?" No, no way. If you're not going to deal with it head on, then simply leave. Yes, yes I know this is fiction but can we make it a little real or something that comes across as plausible? I also found it a little hard to believe that Fletch thought her blackmailer was her boyfriend. You're Delta Force and your home has video coverage 24/7. Except for the two minutes he comes by to collect his money, he's never around. You know she works all day and then picks up Annie and comes straight home and never goes anywhere on the weekends. Hello??? I would think he'd pick up on her body language if nothing else. By the way, am I the only one who found the six-year-old to be somewhat irritating?? In the end I still give it three stars. It's written well and is intriguing even though it's far-fetched (which is putting it mildly).

Rescuing Emily was another great story in my favorite Susan Stoker's Delta Force series. I loved Emily and Fletch together and Emily's daughter Annie was such a great little girl with her gifted abilities and penchant for everything military. Emily was such a strong independent single mom who was fierce in her care and love for her daughter. I especially liked the set up of the rescue mission and Emily and Annie's proactive involvement in their own rescue. Fletch may be my new alpha BBF whose protective instincts and Delta Force abilities were terrific. Don't miss the court room scene starring the precocious Annie; it's a real hoot!

YEESSSSS! So good.

Emily and Fletch were great MCs. And that little girl. Sooo adorable. Susan began the story pulling on my heart strings for Emily and the way she cared for Annie and put her first. It was touching. Fletch tried to keep his distance, but that beautiful Annie kept pulling him in.

Great Read!

Emily Grant thinks she hit the jackpot when she finds and rents a room over the garage of Cormac “Fletch” Fletcher. Not only does she know he gave her a break on the rent and the deposit but he is awesome with her young daughter, Annie, a smart, talkative, question asking heart stealer. But things change when someone starts to blackmail her for money she can ill afford to pay and soon she is starving herself to at least feed Annie. To make matters worse a mix up will make her believe Fletch is involved.

When the truth comes to light Fletch will lay claim to the two women and do everything within his power to protect them even if it means giving up his own life. With the help of his team, Delta Force soldiers, he will have to outsmart a close to home foe and save his women before it is to late.

This was my first book read written by author Susan Stoker and I am sure not my last. These books can be read as standalone but they involve a member of the team. So characters are repeated in each book.

4 stars. Highly recommended.
Loved Annie! Loved Emily! Love Fletch! Loved the team!

Cormac Fletcher, aka Fletch, is Delta Force, but that's not all he is. He's also a...wait, what? A landlord? Fletch has an apartment available for rent, but he also has particular requirements as to who he'll accept, plus he'd like the tenant to keep an eye on his house, gather his mail, etc. when he's away on a mission, well okay, they'll just know he's gone. Not to mention, whoever he chooses must pass his background check, which will be done by none other than Tex. Yes! That man knows everyone. LOL When he meets his next applicant, there's just something about her...

Emily Grant, a single mom and PX employee, is desperate. Her current living situation isn't safe and she needs to get her and her precious daughter, Annie, a new place to live. She applies for Fletch's apartment, not believing she'll be able to afford it, but when he shockingly offers her the place, much cheaper than she thought possible, she accepts, unable to believe her luck or contain her relief.

As time passes, Fletch not only starts falling for Emily, but for Annie as well. He can see a future with them and he wants it more than anything. But will he delay too long in letting her know that? Emily also feels the connection between her and Fletch and Annie adores him, yet maybe things aren't as they seem with him. Someone has decided the perfect way to get revenge on Fletch is through Emily and Annie and that someone carefully crafts a plan that has Emily doubting everything she thought she knew about Fletch, things that can easily be misconstrued when doubts are already in place.

What happens when Emily believes the worst of Fletch? What will Fletch do when he perceives Emily's actions a certain way and how they impact not only her, but Annie as well? Will they settle this misunderstanding before it's too late? Will Fletch be able to rescue his new family in time? Can Fletch, Emily, and Annie have their HEA? Could Annie be any cuter? Okay, that last one is a rhetorical question because no, she could not be. She has these tough Delta Force men wrapped around her little finger.

One-click now to read this wonderful book by one of my favorite writers. You will fall in love with this couple and the undeniably adorable Annie. Oh and as is my response anytime this book, this character, is mentioned, may I just say...Fletch!!! I have been awaiting his book since meeting his Delta team in Protecting the Future, book eight in the SEAL of Protection series. Please keep in mind, I do recommend reading Rescuing Rayne, book one in this series, first as previous characters are mentioned and honestly, because it's a great book. I've never been disappointed in anything by this author and eagerly await the next one. Is it out yet? No? Darn it, back to my time machine plans...this waiting is torture.

I've been on a pretty good book role (for the most part) with the last group of books I've read/reviews. And Rescuing Emily was no different. This is the second book in Susan Stoker's Delta Force Heroes series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, HOWEVER, I think that you would get much more enjoyment if you read these books in order. (Rescuing Rayne is the first book in this series.) You really will get the feel and sense of brothership the Delta team has together.

Emily Grant is desperate to find a safer place to live for her and her six-year old daughter, Annie. And she thinks she finds it when she stumbles upon the ad for an apartment for rent by Cormac "Fletch" Fletcher (and for a GREAT price), Emily finally feels that she can breathe a little...

Until she can't.

When a stranger, claiming to be friends with Fletch, threatens and blackmails Emily, she begins to feel that moving wasn't that saving grace that she thought it was. She pulls away from her budding relationship with Fletch and struggles to feed her daughter.

When Fletch first meet Emily, he felt an instant connection with her. He has never felt this instant connection with someone before and struggles to stay away from her. When he finally decides that he wants to explore the feelings that he has, Emily begins to pull away and he doesn't know why.

But when Emily gets sick and Fletch finally discovers why she has been avoiding him, he becomes determined to earn her trust and eliminate the threat against her and Annie. And show her how great they could be together.

For me, Emily's daughter Annie stole the show. She was such a joy to read and see what an amazing little girl she is. I loved how she got all those big, bad Delta boys wrapped around her little finger in an instant. It wasn't just Fletch that realized what a special person she is and will be. I LOVED ANNIE!!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Let me first say I loved the way the author handled the safety in this book. There was no cheating and they were celebrate upon meeting...even when she didn't know if she could trust him he still remained celibate because after meeting her he had eyes only for her. She was already his heart.

This was a very likeable book. I absolutely loved Fletch and Annie. It took me quite a while to warm up to Emily, though, and I felt there was definitely something missing between them for most of the book. At least in my opinion she didn't appear to be a warm person. It just felt off, as though they hadn't clicked like I thought they should have, something missing in their connection. I just finished my second read through and still feel the same about the couple. I didn't feel they clicked during sex either. I know she had been through a lot before we met her but it did trouble me when she didn't confront Fletch about what his 'supposed friend' had said about him. She chose to believe the worst in Fletcher and I felt he deserved so much better than that. First she had faith in him, then she didn't, then she did, then she wasn't sure....I don't like wishy washy. It was like watching a metronome with the pendulum swinging from side to side. Trust him, trust him not, believe the good in him, believe only the bad.

It all turned out well and I really felt the connection between the couple during the last two chapters.

The six year old incredibly smart Annie stole the show. She was the coolest little first grader I have ever read about. She had more common sense and more on the ball than her mother did.

All in all I definitely recommend this book as well as this series and other series by this author but still feel as though something was definitely missing with F;etch and Emily, especially in the intimacy department. It was just blah and unenjoyable to read.

I enjoyed this one a little more than the first, but the steam was super low. Most of this story they were not together. The little girl was cute. But so sad. My heart broke for her.

I liked Emily. But could not decide if she was stupid, naïve or gullible. The plot was so ridiculous that I could not believe it went on for MONTHS!!! And how it was resolved was over the top.

Even with this, I still enjoyed the story.

I was so frustrated by this book! Every time I started getting in to the story there would be some absolutely ridiculous plot point that would have me rolling my eyes and debate whether it was worth reading on. And it was such a shame, because it could have been so much better!

So yeah I had multiple problems with the book.... but there was something about it that still drew me in, despite the many sanity breaks I had to take while reading it. I'm a sucker for military heroes as leading men - maybe that's part of it. This is the first one in the series I've read. I received it for free as part of a monthly romance book club thing (I'd write the name but I've forgotten it). Despite the 2-star review (literally "it was ok") there was enough promise in there that I will probably check out another one. I just hope the plotting is better.

d.n.f. Sorry, but the heroine is really tstl.

Sorry, I quit when everybody told her that she is the best mommy of the world for starving herself (and neglecting her daugher in the process) instead of acting like an adult. The hero must truly be a Delta Force to keep that woman out of trouble.

I loved this story of a single mom, a precocious little girl, and the alpha soldier who will do anything to keep them safe. The story is instant attraction and a case of misunderstanding and miscommunication. These are things that can be a big turn off for me but were handled so well.

Single mom Emily Grant thinks she's found the answer to her woes when she rents a cheap apartment from Delta Forces soldier Cormac Fletcher. The man is hot, their attraction is mutual, and he genuinely seems to like her daughter, Annie. But when a soldier with a grudge extorts her and threatens Annie to get back at Fletch, she begins to wonder if Fletch is the man she thought he was. There was much love about this story. Fletch was a total swoon-worthy hero. He has become one of my most favorite book boyfriends ever. Annie, as a precocious little girl who prefers GI Joe to Barbie was adorable. I loved getting to know the characters and seeing the romance unfold. I enjoyed the "family" moments, too.

I was going to rate this a 3 just to be nice but I have decided there are plenty of people on here being "nice". Rating it a 2 is pretty lenient. This book is not a 4 or a 5 like so many have rated it. I am being very generous with this review. I agree with everything that @E-Reader Addict said in her 1 star review. The first book was better but not great either. I think Stoker should have left the lame sex scenes out of the story. They seriously do not add anything but a few pages you can skip over. (Boring) Emily is really too stupid to love. Let have a whole book with a misunderstanding that is stupid to start with . You need to ask questions or leave! How in the world have you managed to raise a 6 year old?! This had some great Delta Force guys in it. But they need to be in someone else's book!

I am finished with this series.

Ahhh Just like her other series, this was the best.

Loved it. Emily was looking for a new place to live were it is safer for her and her daughter Annie, Fletch is renting out the apartment above his garage which is were the story begins. A misunderstanding makes both of them turning away from each other but when things start to go bad Fletch steps up not only because he feels responsible but because he loves her and will do anything to protect those he loves. Annie was a fantastic kid, not whinny but brave and smart for her age and even if she liked to play with boy toys she still had those tough delta men eating out of her palm. Great story I think this was my favorite so far can't wait to read more of these delta men.

( 04/09/21 cannot believe that I haven't left a review before... I have read this several times!!! )

Love love love Fletch! Emily and Annie were great too.

I think this is definitely in my top ten of Susan Stoker's books. It has everything that I look for in a read. Suspense and romance being the top two. There were times when I was tutting out loud... specifically nearly every early conversation with Fletch and Emily... USE MORE WORDS!!!! But, this was in an affectionate and not a dismissive way!!

One of the parts that I love most about SS's world is the way that a character from another part of the 'verse can be there... not ever seen, not ever named, not ever interacting... but we know who they are. Love that sooo much!!
