Brigid: The last thing I need is a husband, especially some Viking brute commanding my surrender.
Jerrik: Fight all you want, little Pict. You will yield to my desire...
Forced into a union she didn't seek, Brigid is terrified and aroused by Jerrik's masterful behaviour and carnal demands. But, when he saves her son from the ferocious ocean, Brigid realises he may be the hero she needs, as well as the man she craves.
Jerrik is one of nine provocatively sensual tales within the Viking Surrender series.
Stories of suspense, seduction and adventure, told against the forbidding backdrop of medieval Scotland.
Journey together with indomitable heroes and intrepid heroines, as they discover that the raging storms of fear and passion can transform into enduring devotion.
A horde of battle-hardened, ferocious Nordic warriors.
A Pictish village at the mercy of its enemies.
A harrowing bargain struck for nine fearful and reluctant brides.
Delivered into Viking hands, claimed and conquered, each bride must accept that she belongs to her new master. But, as wedding nights bring surrender to duty, will fierce lovers also surrender their hearts?
The Highland wilderness is savage, life is perilous, and the future uncertain, but each Viking has sworn protection, and there are no lengths to which a man will not go to safeguard the woman he loves.
I read this when it was part of Vikings (the set is now sold as separate books). Because not much has changed -- with the exception of a much-needed epilogue -- I'm going to leave my original review here.
First, a couple of warnings: There is no disclaimer regarding this book's elements of domestic discipline (dd) or corporal punishment of adult women. In this particular case, the dd is not vicious (a hand spanking) and the sex is consensual, but, if you're against dd, then you may not like this.
Secondly, as of the time I write this (October 21), many of the five-stars here are from Ms. Brandon's fellow authors in the series; their stars are inflating the reviews. I strongly suggest that you read less biased reviews before making your decision about reading this.
Now onto the actual book. Below is my opinion; take it for what it's worth.
All the books are enemies-to-lovers stories (though Jerrik and Brigid aren't enemies for long) and have three (as I saw it) overall themes. One is -- as another reviewer very wisely mentioned -- the importance of moving on from loss. The second is the blending of cultures (particularly welcome in today's anti-immigrant, us-vs.-them world) as each Pict and Viking character shares stories or customs from their respective lands; in this case, Jerrik . The third is dominance/submission broadly applied to an entire town. That is, the Vikings act as doms (protective providers who rescue the Picts from enemy attacks) and the Picts as submissives (those who swear their obedience in exchange for this protection). Thus, while both the men and women are marrying under duress (rather than just the women), it's the centuries-old marital bargain before the appearance of more modern views of marriage: each partner brings something tangible to the marriage that has nothing do with love or shared interests. In this case, the Vikings bring the brawn to defend the community, and the Picts provide the land. Of course, since this is romance, love does grow between the couples. And, because it's an erotic romance in this particular genre, the sexual acts are described and often akin to those in BDSM and/or dd.
Overall, this particular story is well-written with few editing or grammatical errors. There's decent world-building (though the landscape could be better described). And, as always, Ms. Brandon writes detailed erotic scenes.
Ultimately, however, I didn't like it since I really hated Jerrik. I found him to be a bully as he threatened to birch his wife's young son. Authors: can we please keep the physical punishment of children out of these books? Really, just don't. And before anyone says, "But that's historically accurate!" A) I'm not reading these books for the history and neither are you; and B) Any book that includes this line -- “Is my wife still wet for me?”-- can hardly claim to be historically accurate.
In addition, the reasons Jerrik punished Brigid were absurd as she was the only one who could possibly know (sometimes I wonder if authors use any common sense when writing these books). He also referred to his former days of raping and pillaging ("He had seen terror in all of its many forms—the petrified pleas of the woman he had taken by force in the past"), and beating women ("he had been known to birch a woman to the point of blood on occasion"). And before anyone says, "But that's historically accurate," see above.
While it's true Jerrik got slightly better during the story, I never found him to be a sympathetic character.
As always Felicity has pulled you into her Viking story. This tells the story of Brigid and Jerrik. After there marriage and in the middle of the feast Brigid walks away with her son Bram who had wanted his mother’s attention. He didn’t understand what was happening and his mother didn’t tell him she had a new husband. When Jerrik turned up at her door she wouldn’t let him in at first as she said she had just gotten her son to sleep. This was the first he had heard of her son. They enter the house go to here room where she is told to strip for him. Brigid is expecting the same as her first husband he got off and Brigid didn’t. Jerrik is different he makes love to her to the satisfaction of both. The next morning Bram walks in on them and runs Jerrik tell Brigid to light a fire and he will find there son. Brigid disobeyed and goes to the beach and finds Bram. Jerrik is not happy and promised her a punishment. I’m not going to spoil the rest only to say you must read
Brigid suddenly has a Viking husband who is now responsible for her and her son. The lust is immediate and Jerrick treats her and her son well. She struggles to give up control of her life but manages with the help of a spanking. This is a pretty straight forward tale.
I enjoyed this book very much. Brigid and Jerrik and Bram came through all their differences. When he saved him that broke the barrier to lead them to a closeness they needed. I for sure thought there would have been more children. I was kinda sad they didn’t have any. On to the last book of the series “Bjorn”. 💜💜💜💜💜
This was fine, I feel like Jerrik was written as the most stereotypical viking so far. He really demands Brigid's surrender and for her to follow his word no matter what. I felt like he came across as kind of a bully and not an alpha male who is keeping his family safe. The epilogue was very sweet and I appreciated how their love grew from an initial "hate" from Brigid's side.
This Viking Warrior Romance was hot, and very sensual. Jerrik hit the jackpot when he married Brigid. The sex between the two of them was off the charts. Marrying one of the picts was one thing only to discover he was now a father as well. Good storyline, well written.
If you don't mind spankings then you will love this series. I wish this book had more action/adventure instead of intimate scenes but it was a good book.
3 stars (maybe 4 stars if you enjoy these authors: Kate Pearce, Jess Michaels).
I’ve read the entire series of books. My review will be the same for all book. Some were more enjoyable to read then others however the series as a whole and each individual book to me is still 3 stars (half I would give 3.5 stars). You can read each book within 1-2 hours; quick reads.
These books/series are worth a read but didn’t really have me excited about interacting with the book where I could not put it down (skimmed through parts of the books). It lacks the excitement and well roundness of my personal markers for a great read throughout the book.
There was a lack of development and interest in main characters in some of the books (which I found irritating). I enjoy secondary characters and there were a few moments in the books, enough info was provided that I read the series.
There were a handful of humorous scenes in most of the books. I do prefer well written humour and this series lacked in that department.
I found the movement of the books ‘choppy at times’ especially around the story telling overall.
The writing /conversation of the book was not the style that gets me engaged and partner with the books characters to enjoy this book past a first read.
There are MAJOR sexual scenes throughout the book (kissing, oral, love making) and SPANKING in all the books.
Read this book/series once and that is enough for me.
I wouldn’t cross a few of the authors out of my potential reads in the future.
Good addition the series, liked Jerrik and Brigid 's story
Jerrick has been happy following his Jarl, and living the bachelor life. He has been ordered to take a wife. He is pleased with the wife he has been given. He is surprised by the fact that his wife had a son. Brigid has been widowed for two years and has been raising her 8year old son on her own. She can't deny she finds her new husband pleasing Bram is frightened at first by the new man in his mother's life, but Jerrik soon wins him over. Jerrik embraces being a husband and father. Fast paced, steamy with spanking for discipline and pleasure. A nice epilogue to wrap up their story. While part of a multi author series, it can be read as a stand alone.
From the time he saw her, Jerrik had hoped Brigid would be the one given to him for his bride. When arriving to her, their house after the festivities, all was not as he expected. There were a few surprises for all of them to adjust to. This was such a heart felt, renewal of faith and second chances that was heated with a sexual chemistry and emotions. This one will leave you with the warm and fuzzies without a doubt.
Brigid is the next bride in the anthology. She is a widow with a young son, Bram. Jerrik is a big, strapping Viking. Brigid is his gift from the gods. But she has no wish to remarry as her previous marriage was not a happy one. But Jerrik shows her another side of marriage that she had no idea existed. Can Jerrik’s passion, experience and love awaken Brigid’s dormant need? This is a tender but steamy love story. You’ll fall in love with this Viking!
Book eight in the Viking Surrender series and this was one of my favorites in the series. Viking Jerrik has been told that Pict Brigid is to be his wife and he did not want one. Brigid has a son Bram from her deceased husband, and he will help these two come together. This is a series by different Authors that worked well together. This is the first book by this Author that I have read and I will be looking for more by her. I read this copy through K.U. and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I really enjoyed this novella. It had a big bad Viking used to being in control, a strong independent woman who has never been satisfied fly a man forced to marry the Viking, her young son used to the full attention of his mother, add these together and you get a great story.
Oh how I love big strong dominant Vikings and Jerrik has it all as he claims his strong independent wife Brigid ans shows her what it really is like to have a husband. Their way of life is about to change and I loved how he took control of the family in all the right ways and they just fit so perfect.
Loved the dynamic between Jerrik and Brigid. Strong dominate Viking and an strong woman raising her son alone. Jerrik is going to make Brigid what she needs in a husband and a father for her son Will she give him a chance to show her and her son that he is a good man and the one for her. I found myself caught up in the story and could not put it down,I love a good viking story.
Jerrik the Viking invader, will conquer more than her village, he will pillage her heart and ravish her body. When needed he will take her over his knee, love her hard and forever and call her son his own.
I love stories about Vikings and this one hit all the right notes for me. A strong and dominant Viking and a woman who is used to taking care of herself and her son. Put them both together and you have have a page turner of a story that I found hard to put down.
This" Viking Surrender" series is a good escape into the rough and fierce he- man times of the past. Jerrik is a good Viking warrior who also turns out to be just what his new family and village needs. Sexy romance. Linda
Upon Jerrik being allotted a Pictish bride. Jerrik finds himself with an instant family. Can the Viking tame his little PICT? Can Jerrik, Brgid and Bram find what each of them need? Another great story in the series.
