This book would be normally a 4 stars reads for me as it was slightly dated by the time I came across it (this fact is inevitable as the sector is evolving extremely fast). However I have decided to give an extra star because the author provides information in a just enough detailed manner, without unnecessary redundancy and boring historical backgrounds (something that tech books are prone to do, starting from the dawn of Internet, for instance). Readers are informed and can quickly grasp the importance of the applications of the new trends with the examples included, more importantly they know what to look for in a particular technology, if it is applicable to their sector of industry. Also, very much appreciated were the sections on the pitfalls to watch for and caveats for each of the technology (some social rather than technical but they can equally impact a successful implementation). Highly recommended book, I hope a new updated version will be released soon.
Given the fast-moving subject matter, this type of book will inevitably date quickly (it does already feel this way reading in 2025). That said, it still delivers value through the clear, practical examples provided for each noted trend.
