Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.
Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.
Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.
My 4-year-old daughter loves this. She is just learning English, and this book is great for that. It is easy to read and contains mostly basic vocabulary.
This is the first of the 5 minute collection books that I've seen list the movies that the stories are tied to in the table of contents rather than just the story title. A refreshing change as often I've wished it was easier to tell before you read the entire book.
Finding Dory: Who Needs a Hug? Sometimes, everyone needs a hug. A cute game of hide and seek can take a bit longer than usual when Dory forgets she's supposed to be the seeker. Who can ever resist a bunch of cute otters, though?
The Little Mermaid: Ariel & the Pearl of Wisdom Ariel and her sisters must each choose a "royal responsibility" to help the kingdom. Of course, we only hear Ariel's choice... after she nearly loses her pearl necklace before the ceremony - whoops.
Moana: A Path to the Sea This is a cute story about sea turtles, however, it gives the impression that Moana spends much of her childhood out at sea surfing, which conflicts a lot with the movie and the impression that she's not really allowed near the water at all, even to fish.
Finding Dory: You're It, Dory! Hide and seek really isn't Dory's game with her memory. Fortunately, she has a lot of friends who will come look for her when she loses her way.
Moana: Becoming Shiny As the title may imply, this tells about Tamatoa and his quest to become shiny. In his determination that outer beauty was better than what was inside, he didn't have very many friends, resulting in no one being willing to help him when he ended up stuck after his encounter with Maui and Moana. Hard to say if he truly learned anything from the adventure as Moana hopes.
The Little Mermaid: Ariel Makes Waves This is a cute glimpse into how Ariel may have wandered into human things and met Scuttle while also being the most resourceful of her sisters and helping them find their way home. Rather than coming across as cold and stern however, her father is proud of the girls and seems happy they want to play with him.
Lilo & Stitch This is a very abbreviated version of events from the original movie. Not as cohesive overall, but still cute and rather funny.
Moana: Pua & Heihei These two critters really are an odd pair. It's a miracle Heihei has survived for so long and not actually ended up someone's dinner, though he does seem rather skinny to try and eat.
Finding Nemo: Night Games For all that Nemo is the adventurous one the in the family, it often seems to be Marlin that ends up in rather odd situations and ends up needing Nemo's help to find his way home.
The Little Mermaid: Ariel & the Whale Song Ariel has always wanted to meet the whales, so she sneaks off before a concert to try and find them. Of course, this leads to her changing her solo mid-concert. Hopefully Sabastian doesn't mind too much.
Finding Nemo: The Ghost-Light Fish Nemo and his friends are off to find seashells, however, they think they find a ghost fish instead. Nemo may not find any shells, but he excels at finding new friends.
Moana: Wave Rider This story goes back to even before A Path to the Sea and shows how Moana learned to surf with her grandma. As with the other story, this is cute, but does seem to conflict with what we see and hear in the movie about her being kept away from the water.

My all-time favorite 5-Minute Stories book so far! Perhaps because I love all things about the ocean (and always have)... BUT. It also included stories from some of my favorite movies--i.e. The Little Mermaid, Moana, Finding Dory, and Lilo and Stitch! Highly recommend the 5-Minute Stories series, and especially this one book!
(4☆ Would recommend) My 3-year-old absolutely loves this book. The stories are short enough to keep her attention. This is a great book for bedtime story reading.
Dory plays hide and seek with friends which ends in one big friends and family hug. Ariel almost loses her pearl necklace that King Triton gave to her. She retrieves it just in time for the ceremony and announces that she will start a museum. Moana saves Lolo the sea turtles babies from harm and makes sure they make it safely to the ocean. Dory finds a great hiding spot for hide and seek, too bad she's supposed to be the seeker. Moana tells the village kids the story of Tamatoa. Ariel almost gets lost on the way back home, but thanks to a fish she returns to the palace. Lilo finds Stitch and although things aren't off to a great start, they end up becoming ohana in the end. Pua helps Heihei and in the process brings Moana's missing anklet back to her. Gramma Tala tells Moana the story of how she learned to surf and it inspires Moana to keep trying until she succeeds.
