The Terran Alliance looks to the horizon as they explore the far reaches of the galaxy!
The Korvil have attacked Earth, setting into motion a full-scale war that humans have little hope of surviving on their own. In the heat of battle, the Shiravans come to their rescue, turning the tide of the enemy invasion. This forms a tentative peace between the two races, but there are many more steps before reaching a full alliance.
The aftermath of the attack on Earth leaves millions dead and mixed emotions between the earthbound nations and the spacefaring Alliance. Tensions rise as governments try to infiltrate the organization in order to gain an upper hand in world politics; however, the Alliance has bigger fish to fry as they learn more about their new enemy—the Korvil. Like something from a science fiction book, the massive, bear-like creatures know nothing of peace or mercy, only of power and war. They will stop at nothing until they are the alpha race of the galaxy no matter who they have to kill—even their own.
As the war continues, Kitty Hawk, Herald of the Terran Alliance, accompanies a few ships to the Shiravan homeworld in hopes of cementing their partnership to defeat this threat. As she reaches the alien world, she realizes there is more than meets the eye with this peaceful race. Will the leader of the Alliance be able to come to terms with the Matriarch, or will humans now face two powerful threats instead of one?
Bob lived in Montana for over thirty years, since late '85. He fell in love with the state almost instantly (who wouldn't after spending the previous twenty or more years trapped in Houston, Texas). Out in the Big Sky Country, he found the “elbow room” he didn't even know he was looking for. He lived quietly with his two cats and library of nearly two thousand books--about ninety-five percent sci/fi. He discovered that he liked to write as well and could often be found doing just that. Bob passed away in November of 2019 and is survived by his younger brother. Before he passed, he finished his writing project of more than a decade, The Stellar Heritage series, and he will live on in the hearts and minds of his readers.
Far Horizons is a book unlike most sci fi books. There are 3 races with different tech and amazingly the Humans have the new tech. 2 of the races want to form a partnership to destroy the 3rd evil one. A really great read without all the shootem up of the normal sci fi you are used to. There is enough battle to make you happy too. A very good story, great characters and the ending leaves you wanting the next book. I truly enjoyed this book more than any other sci fi I have read.
Good book, I really enjoyed the battle scenes and enjoyed the book in general. It was a little politics and skulduggery, but it drove the story forward. It kind of ended on a cliffhanger but that leaves me wanting to read book 4 even more.
I like Mauldins writing, he has done a stellar job of story and character development. I personally like near future space opera Mauldin does well blending current events and politics I to a great space tale.
The pace got sidetracked with too much politics and intrigue. It got difficult to distinguish between Alliance, Korvil and Shirazan. It was of no earthly importance a To take pages about brandy and alien booze. Will read the next one albeit reluctantly.
Absolutely great book! It’s a shame Bob Maudlin passed away before he could see the overwhelming success of this series. Tons of action and sci-fi adventure. It was unputdownable! Loved it!
This is the third installment and I can’t wait for the fourth. This series has it all great space battles, awesome world building, believable tech advancement. You name it this series has it!!
