As Riley Shaw begins her final year of college, she's facing more challenges than just getting through her exams.
Her homophobic parents have cut her off and thrown her out, and to make ends meet, Riley starts playing in a local poker tournament every Friday night.
A bartending job would probably have been easier, but playing poker only took a few hours once a week, and with years of online experience, Riley wanted to at least give it a try.
One thing she hadn't counted on was finding herself at the same table as one of her professors, Ms. Harper, the woman she'd been crushing on for the last three years.
After five years of teaching accounting at the same college as her brother, Lauren Harper was finally settling in.
She'd left behind a high paying, high stress job at an accountancy firm, and although teaching didn't pay nearly as well, she was starting to enjoy the simpler things in life, like sipping on a whiskey while she played cards at a local casino.
When one of her students sits down at her poker table, it piques Lauren's curiosity. It wasn't unusual for students and teachers to mix in such a small town, but for some reason, she didn't expect to see Riley playing poker.
Lauren had been badly burned by a student in the past, and there was no way she was going there again.
No way. Under no circumstances.
That's what Lauren keeps telling herself anyway, but as the two get to know one another, Lauren finds herself being drawn to the younger woman.
This was a great read. Fast paced and with just enough tension without being overly dramatic. There's a second book on the way which will be another age gap romance. (Yes! I just can't seem to get enough of them) Spencer Pearson looks like another reliable Kindle Unlimited author that I can add to my list.
This is the first book of the Temptation series and I found this gem of a book after doing some KU browsing. I'm in love with the it though I admit I'm a bit biased. The trope is my guilty pleasure after all.
Readers who like professor/student romances usually enjoy the illicitness of the relationship and the pining away of characters. But this can make the story difficult to read because of the angst that come with it. This romance felt a bit less illicit. The college didn't have an written clause forbidding professors from dating students so it's really up to each professor to handle relationships with integrity. Lauren has been burnt before by a previous relationship with a student so she vows never to make the same mistake again. But she also can't resist the attraction she feels for Riley and I like that she acknowleges that Riley is different from her ex so she takes a gamble and goes for it.
Lauren gives in to temptation easily and I didn't mind that Lauren wasn't that hung up about decorum. As I said, it made the story easier to read. I also like that Riley is independent and is really mature for her age so their chemistry is really good. My only complaint is that Lauren's interest in Riley was muted in the first half, I suppose to make Lauren seem unpredatory but it also took away a bit of the shine to the romance.
Romance aside, the characters gamble in their free time and that is one thing about this book that I'm baffled about. It seems like poker tournaments are common sport among the college community and this is new to me.
Anyway, this story has a good lead up to Book 2. Two side characters have a budding romance and what little we know about them seems really intriguing already.
I really enjoyed this teacher/student romance. All MCs, including the side characters Taylor and Becca, were mature and likeable. Nice pace, a little extra fun with the regular poker tournaments, and some very nice spicy scenes. My first by the author but I look forward to another.
Okay - prior to reading this, I didn't know I had a "hot for teacher" fantasy. Man! None of my college professors came remotely close to looking like Lauren. Maybe that is a good thing?
Alright, that confession out of the way, this book fell flat to me. To save time and brain power, because frankly I just don't have much of either, this book never really went anywhere. Lauren and Riley hooked up fairly early on in the book and it just sort of stayed that way. The conflict wasn't really there - I was really interested in the Thanksgiving interactions with the family and none of that was captured. It just missed the mark, for me.
This is the first book that I have read from Spencer Pearson and I like it. It is well written, with good description and the chemistry between the characters was great. The story is interesting, without being too dramatic...
Another easy, quick age-gap romance between a student and professor. Enjoyed the very likeable main characters and their supporting characters as well. There's nothing "mean" in this book which is a nice departure, but lots of "should we or shouldn't we" between Riley and Lauren. The poker playing aspect of this book with students and teachers alike was something I hadn't read before so that was a plus as well. Great start to a new series that I look forward to reading!
Riley and Lauren have spark, chemistry, connection (emotional, verbal, and sexual), and the groundwork is laid strong in this story. It's a great read with enough steam and drama to keep you reading till it's done.
I love age gap romances especially between a professor and student. They are both adults and consent to having a relationship. Riley can't get over her crush on Lauren. She decides to makes her move when she sees the same desire in Lauren's eyes. They share an amazing chemistry and are super hot together. They can get through any obstacles together.
Sometimes it has backfired and sometimes it has worked. But two consenting adults want to love each other no matter what happens. Up till a certain point! This particular story the author has introduced two couples both willing or not willing to wait or not. Enjoy!
I like the romance in the book. It has a lot of emotion and crying. Two women trying to get together who are not of the same age. When a professor I want a student. The stories about their lives in their attempt to keep their affairs secret. The part was evident from the beginning of the book so I don’t know much about that other than that it was very obvious. It was a very good book and I highly recommend it
This was a fast sexy read, which wasn’t cheesy , which I expected.
I love a good teacher student romance but find some of them can lack taste or the age gap is something I’m not comfortable with. I didn’t find this while reading , even though there was bits of immaturity but that was also well done.
I love this book. The tension is just right. Am also invested with the second couple!!! I so can relate with Rileyy, crushing on your teacher for yearsss. Though I can't get happy ending it's nice to read about couples with the same situation as mine that do.
Liked the way the story and relationship between the characters developed, totally realistic and understandable. The concern around the relationship felt real and the interaction between them was believable. 5 stars all the way.
