Turmoil in Savannah is the thirteenth book in Hope Callaghan’s awesome Made in Savannah Cozy Mystery series. The storyline flows smoothly at a steady pace in this enjoyable read. There are no dull moments as Ms. Callaghan once again provides readers with an intriguing mystery, with well-developed affable characters, humor, and compassion. I highly recommend all the books written by this author to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.

Carlita Garlucci and two of her four adult children are living in Savannah, Georgia, where she’s the owner of an apartment building and two businesses, Savannah Swag Pawn Shop and Ravello’s, a recently opened Italian restaurant. On his deathbed, Vincent “Vinnie” Garlucci made Carlita promise to get their sons out of the “family.” Vinnie, Jr. is still part of the “family,” having married Brittney, the only daughter of mob boss Vito Castellinis, and is working in at his father-in-law’s casino in New Jersey. When Vinnie asks Carlita if his pregnant wife and two of Vito’s “bodyguards,” Ricco DeGrassi and Luigi Baruzzo, can stay with her for a while because of threats he and Vito have received, she reluctantly opens her arms and welcomes them into her home. Carlita and her daughter, Mercedes, see a commotion at the nearby trolley stop and witness a man being thrown out of the emergency exit. After arriving at the scene, they discover that Reese, their friend and trolley driver, has been beaten. A group known as the Savannah Six has been targeting and harassing local business owners and tourists, and is responsible for the events that occurred on the trolley. When Ricco and Luigi find a body in the vacant lot near Carlita’s home and businesses, Reese becomes a suspect when the man is identified as Davis Rutger, the leader of the Savannah Six. Carlita is determined to clear her friend’s name.

Visiting with the Garlucci family is always an experience. One I have come to enjoy and look forward to. With the arrival of Carlita’s daughter-in-law Brittney, as well as her two bodyguards, Rico and Luigi, chaos descends upon their household. Brittney is high maintenance and very pregnant. Her husband Vinnie, as well as her father felt, Brittney would be safer with Carlita until they had control of a “family” situation. Trouble escalates when an argument breaks out between Brittney and one of Carlita’s tenants. Throw into the mix gang activity, a murder, “family” connections, and the disappearance of her neighbor Elvira, Carlita has her hands full!

This is a fast-paced, enjoyable cozy mystery! Ms. Callaghan’s descriptions invite you into the Garlucci’s life, home, and business. She keeps her characters real and the plot moving! There are always plenty of suspects to keep you on your toes, and an excitement that keeps you reading! Each book in this series just keeps getting better and better. I am already looking ahead to the next book in this series. I received this copy as a gift and the opinions are my own.

Another great adventure in Savannah!

Both of Carlita’s businesses are open and doing well. Life seems to be settling down, when her son, Vinnie, sends his pregnant wife to stay with her while he tries to clear up trouble on the NY mob front. But when Brittney arrives, she is accompanied by 2 mob body guards, and that spells trouble to Carlita. The serSavannah Six, a gang causing trouble for the city, tosses someone out of the back of the trolley, and the gang leader is found murdered across the street the next morning. Carlita’s friend, Reese (the trolley driver) is being accused. Can atheists Carlucci family manage to figure out the killer while keeping the 2 mob body guards out of site? I really enjoy these books. They are clean, well-written cozy mysteries, and even have a laugh or two for fun!

Review of this book.

This book was different from the other books. More of Carlita's family was involved. The story was well written and a cliffhanger. The ending was a total shock! I never saw it coming. It was a heartwarming ending. It made me very happy. The solving of the murder was not so surprising. Elvira leaving was a total shock. A game changer. It spun the story in a completely different direction. This author just keeps getting better. Keep up the fantastic writing.

Excellent

I lived some of the characters we met in previous books make a comeback in this book. The setting in Savannah places you right in the mist of historic Savannah, so even if you had never been you feel like you have been. Excellent book, will be sorry I only have two left in the series

Love the characters

Carlita is managing her own. She is in constant drama and chaos with something or another. Having her daughter-in-law stay with her for a short time along with 2 family hired hands is overwhelming especially with a death. With support from her family and friends she figures things out.

Entertaining

This author seems to have tons of series out there and they are all light, clean, interesting stories. No steamy romance,, no explicit sex, no gory details. I love the thread that develops with each succeeding book.

Turmoil in Savannah

I loved this story. This was one of my favorites in the series. The main characters are like friends, because they’ve been in all the books. All about The Family and trying to get out.

I like this series very much. If you are a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, you can read all 16 books in the series for free. Charming main character, Carlotta, relocates to Savannah after her mob shy park husband dies. On his deathbed, he asked her to get their family out working for the mob. Now in Savannah, she stumbles upon one mystery after another. Entertaining read.

This is not "Christian" lit, but secular stories. Be aware that some other Hope Callaghan series (Cruise ship director, Garden Girls) are overtly Christian stories, where the n
Main characters are religious. Although I am a Christian myself, I don't enjoy those stories as much.

loved it!

So much excitement in this installment! This family is full of love and warmth and excitement haha. I really enjoy following the growing and changing relationships of the characters. Thinking back to the first book the characters/family have grown so much. It’s been such a great journey so far, I’ve become quite attached to them all. I’m very excited to continue on with the Garlucci family and see where they adventure next! And Elvira!! Haha

It all began with a simple visit from Carlita’s pregnant daughter-in-law (Brittany), who also happen’s to be the daughter of mafia boss, Vito Castellini, and her two body guards (Rocco and Luigi). Just a temporary visit while Carlita’s mobster son, Vinnie, gets some things straightened out at the casino he manage’s. Next thing you know Carlita’s friend Reese, who drives the local trolly, is attacked by a new gang in the area, the Savannah Six. As fate would have it a body is found across the street from where Carlita’s lives and the main suspects, according to the local police, end up being Rico and Luigi. Fearful that the two body guards will get picked up Carlita (knowing the murder was not done by them) hides them out while she and Reese try to figure out who the real murderer is. To top it off Elvira, Carlita’s ex-tenant, appears to be having a nervous breakdown.
Ms Callaghan does not let us down with all the accelerated action, challenging occurence’s, and exciting ending. I must say “I was totally exhausted” after reading this book. Hope Callaghan is a gifted writer that makes you feel you are right there with the characters in her books. I can hardly wait for the next installment of the Made in Savannah Cozy Mystery Series.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this series. Ms Callaghan is the bomb when it comes to writing this series.

Turmoil for sure!

As if Carlita doesn't have enough on her plate, her pregnant daughter-in-law arrives with two "family" bodyguards. Throw in a body being found in an empty lot across the street from her pawn shop and restaurant, and Carlita is almost over her head in troubles.

With a friend as a prime suspect in the murder, Carlita is highly motivated to solve the murder and protect her reputation as an honest businesswoman. With the help of her children and her friends, she unravels the mystery just in time.

This is another Hope Callaghan mystery that will keep you involved and guessing until the conclusion. But what is going on with Elvira? Will we find out in the next Made in Savannah mystery?
