Winter Black #7-9

Winter Black Series Box Set 3

Rate this book
This third and final box set in Mary Stone’s riveting Winter Black Series contains the last three thrillers in the series: Winter’s Web, Winter’s Storm and Winter’s End.

Winter’s Web: A wanted man, Ryan O’Connelly—the unwilling accomplice of a bank robber turned mass murderer—shows up with chilling information on a brutal serial killer, and FBI Special Agent Winter Black finds out that human webs are the deadliest. As Ryan takes the team into the deep, dark web of sinister secrets, Winter receives an even more disturbing message from her brother than the last. She can feel him out there...watching, waiting. Lucky for Winter, she isn’t afraid of spiders. She’s only afraid when the spider disappears.

Winter’s Storm: The night FBI Special Agent Winter Black took down The Preacher—the man who killed her parents and took her little brother—there was a massacre at the Riverside Mall. Now, the survivors are being murdered one by one. The hit list is long, and when the killer ends up dead, the path to solving the case grows even more twisted. Who is this assassin? Do they intend to finish what The Preacher started as well? And where does Justin, Winter’s baby brother, fit in? Is he the storm, or is he simply caught up in its force?

Winter’s End: Sometimes, the beginning is the end. For thirteen years, FBI Special Agent Winter Black has been haunted by a man who performed heinous acts. Murdering her parents. Abducting her baby brother. Leaving her in a coma that changed her life forever. For thirteen years, she’s suffered mentally and physically, often doubting her sanity and ability to achieve her goal of bringing that brutal man down. Thirteen years of regret. Of hope. Of fear. Of hate. But now, the boy she longs for has transformed into a man she fears. She has to face him. Catch him. Maybe even kill him. Even if it means the end of her.

End?

As much as the author worked tirelessly to the up the many threads of the book, I feel a need for more. The five stars represent Stone's ability to create characters that hold the reader tight, in situations that take breath away, using complex situations and ViVid description to the audience to continue through nine books and a prequel nonstop. However, I am left yearning for more of Winter's story and a closure for Justin that may never come.

Engrossing series

I had the pleasure of reading the nine books in this series back to back. This made for a smooth transition from case to case, and the mystery of Jason Black. I gave this "final" book Four stars, although I was reluctant to do so. Four didn't seem to be enough and I wanted the author to be rated accordingly.
The reason for less than five are the inconsistencies in this book. It was almost like someone else had written it.
In book one she said on the night of the murders of her family she came home, kicked off her Nikes and went upstairs. Her parents had left the door unlocked when she was out at night. In the book she said she snuck out then back in. Why would her parents not lick it if they thought she was home?
In this book the interview with Cameron seems like the first time she has talked to him. She had already seen him (in a previous book) with a less than pleasant outcome.
Through this whole series it seemed the author had done her work in learning FBI and police procedures. Then she says one of the agents takes a wooden stick from an evidence kit and uses it like a pen. To pick up a piece of evidence.
How is that using it like a pen? He sure as neck didn't write with it. And the whole freezing their buns off at the cemetery. I get the SOP in dealing with digging up a coffin, but why the heck didn't they sit in the car? If the office was so close the manager and Brew could take quick walk there, and if they could see the digger from there, why stand out in the cold?

4 - 4.5 Stars

Winter Black Series Box Set 3 (Winter Black Books #7 - 9) by Mary Stone.
These books follow Special Agent Winter Black, whose life was shattered when her parents were murdered and her little brother was believed to have been killed by a serial killer known as The Preacher. Years later, she’s not only chasing down dangerous criminals but also searching for the truth about her brother - a thread that runs through the entire series.
Here, you get the adrenaline rush of intense investigations - serial killers, twisted motives, and plenty of edge-of-your-seat moments - but also the personal side of Winter’s life. She’s tough and determined, but she’s also human, dealing with grief, trust issues, and complicated relationships.
Mary Stone’s writing is easy to sink into. The chapters are short and snappy, which made it really hard to put the books down. Each installment has its own case to solve, but there’s always that bigger mystery in the background, so you’ll probably want to read them in consecutive order to get the full picture and impact.
If you like shows like Criminal Minds or enjoy crime series with a mix of action as well as character depth, then this series is a solid choice.
Engaging, bingeable, and packed with both thrills and heart.
Happy Reading…

The author did a great job introducing characters and developing their story lines throughout series, especially Winter and Noah's relationship. Winter's "visions" were so important in beginning of series but I believe the author "forgot" about them in the last several books. Only in the last book, toward the end, did they reappear in importance. I felt the ending of the series (book 9) was a gotcha ending because the reader was left dangling as to how to resolve Winter's brother's situation. It supposedly continues in the Autumn Trent series. I have the 1st book but haven't read it yet. Seems like a ploy to get you to read/buy more books. Overall style of writing kept the series moving along with dialog and background information, although I felt in Book 9 the characters' thoughts were often long drawn out and found myself skimming in several spots. I enjoy the author and will continue to read the next series. The 5 stars is for the overall series of 9 books and the prequel.

While I enjoyed this series, it stretched suspension of disbelief more than once. The characters do things that should get them fired at a minimum, and I often found their behavior immature, with all the unfounded assumptions certain characters made repeatedly. What really distracted me and took me out of the story on multiple occasions was a lack of attention during editing. Several lines used an incorrect homophone; one of the most egregious was when someone said something about “airing on the side of caution.” It took me a minute to realize they meant to use the phrase “erring on the side of caution.”

Despite all that, the series held my attention, and the author did a good job with descriptions. I could easily visualize the characters and the locations—in fact, I can imagine this series as a television show.

This Box set contains the last three books of this series (maybe). The entire WINTER BLACK Series by Mary Stone is a five-star page-turning series with storylines that are not only chilling and frightening, but could be right out of the actual FBI files. The growth of the main characters and depth of depravity of the criminals keeps each book fresh and interesting. Everytime I think I know what's happening, she throws in a twist and a turn and I'm back to square one, again.

These books can be read as stand-alones, but I suggest reading the prequel "Winter's Origin" to gain some valuable insight into Winter's story followed by book one,  Winter's Curse. Each book expands on her personal growth, her hunt for the Preacher and her brother. You won't be disappointed in this series.

Winter’s End

Wow books 7, 8, and 9 in the Winter Black series are as amazing as the first 6 books. Winter, Noah, Aiden, Autumn and the agents of the FBI go from trying to solve the murders of rapists, murderers and other horrible monsters who prey on the innocent to Winter having to be put on a forced leave when the group go after the monster who was Winter’s baby brother. Well, we know Winter conducted her own investigation into her family history. There are more mysteries and so many twists and turns all the while there is a monster trying to get close enough to Winter to kill her. This series is a must read for anyone claiming to be a murder mystery lover. Thank you Mary Stone.

Stories continue to be good!

Sometimes , in a series, the early books are great, but later books seem to grow stale. Not so with Winter Black's stories! They are somewhat predictable, but not bad enough to be boring. I usually figure out the end a long time before I get there. I don't mind b/c I actually chose these easier to read books in between more heavy reading. Kind of a "palate cleansing"! Besides, there are always twists & turns braided in with the predictable! This was said to be the last in the series, but there's another 3-book set so I'll happily be getting it, too!

I !oved the series

I hated the way the author just leaves you hanging. There a book a about Autumn coming. And there is a book about Winter before this series, but it's on a book funnel all app. Last time I used book book I ended having documents that wanted to be printed and can't be opened not willing to try it. If it's it on something I trust it's a no for me.Series is great ending sucks she author tell maybe she will finish by writing a other winter book but for now, your hanging...

Black's story

The series needs to be read in order. Even with the backstory repeated with each new installment, it should be read in order. That being said, it's about two installments too long.
Solid, interesting characters...strong story line until each conflicting thought is repeated and repeated...not just for one character but for the four or five main characters.
I'm glad Blacks story is complete but I'm tired enough that I'm not continuing with more of the same in Autumn's story. I love bingeing on series but it's time for me to move on.

Winter and friend Autumn and others in FBI are hot on Justin’s tail.

If i could i would give all three books a nine star rating.. Each alone is a complete story that is fascinating and heartbreaking for Winter and her extended family of FBI and her very good friend Autumn that profiles the bad guys and weird creeps that come up from the dark. Everyone is trying so hard to stop the deaths before they they happen and morn and feel guilty when they fail. You get so involved. At least i do. So hope you come along for the stories that are so fascinating.

Winter's little brother Justin...

Is as evil as he seems. But Winter tries not to believe it, even though she believes he was involved in shootings that resulted in death. She needs to find him to find the truth before anything else happens at Justin's hands. She and Autumn (Winter's psychologist friend) need to find him before more murders or injuries occur. Her success may be all Justin needs, but will she get to him in time?

A truly great series!!!!

Winter's journey to find her brother is over but what comes next? Is Justin/Jamie insane? He's plead Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity but is he? Being raised by a sociopathic serial killer would mess anyone up but would it drive a child crazy? Or was he always doomed to be a serial killer? To find out you'll have to read the Autumn Trent series. Highly recommended.

I have read all of the Winter Black stories, each one is unique and intense. Go ahead and get this box set and read along with Winter and her fellow FBI agents as they work each case. There are some emotional things going on, and of course thrilling confrontations with the bad guys. I have enjoyed every one of these stories.

Mysterious, exciting, romantic and, yet, another unfinished conclusion. Enough! I'd like to know how it all turns out for Noah, Winter, et al. Left with a feeling of "that's it?" After 9 books there should be an end to the story instead of another tease without the hope of yet another book to follow anytime soon. Moving onto other stories, other authors.

D____ Hate Never Ending Stories

Mary Stone has a great way of telling a tale, but why can't authors write a story with a beginning, middle, and ending in one book? It is unusual that I read nine books thinking Autumn's series would be new series not a continuation. Believe I'm done with the writings of Stone.

Finding the White Ghost

Winters brother reaches out to her a couple of times. He is identified as the serial killer who killed some of the survivors of the Mall shootings. Winter is given time off because the case needed to be free of any claims of conflict of interest. She doesn't know how she feels about her brother as the team follows leads without her.

Winter's Story Continues.

Mary Stone does not disappoint as Winter's Story comes to an end (or does it really end?)). Action packed with twists and turns all along the way to keep the reader turning pages. It is a continuing insight to the mind and heart of Winter ad Noah and their FBI friends, relatives and strangers.

A wonderful journey

The Winter Black series ended as it began , with suspense and believable characters. I read the complete series one at a time with breaks between each book always looking forward to the next. I was compelled to read the last two as one. I plan to read more of Mary Stone's books and would recommend you do too.

I put my life on hold for this series

I think this is absolutely the most engrossing book series I've ever read. I read all 9 books without stopping. My house and laundry have suffered greatly.
The characters are rich and involved. The action and plot twists keep you guessing and obsessed.
Can't got wrong with Winter Black's story.

Amazing, gripping reading

Mary Stone is an amazing author. I didnt want to put the book down once I started reading so consequently lost a lot of sleep. I have read two of the series now and can't wait to start on the next one. I was holding my breath Right to the end. Thank you Mary for helping me get through this difficult time of restrictions due to the pandemic.

Engaging characters and story

Another great compilation of 3 Mary Stone novels. Even though these primarily revolve around Winter Black, you'll also get varied POV. This provides some unexpected and not unwelcome insight into the personal lives of other characters you'll get to know even more in Stone's other parallel storyline.

I could not put these books down! My only complaint is that it ends at a bit of a place where there is room for more. I won’t spoil it for you, absolutely worth the read.

A true sitting-on-the-edge-of-your-seat and nail-biting finale!

I hated to reach the end of this series of Winter Black’s crime solving and search for her brother...but, I’m so glad I did. What a great read.
