Bad for Love

Rate this book
He's bad news wrapped in a beautiful package.

The definition of bad boy and my heart's worst nightmare.

And now he's here for the summer, living under the same roof as me.

His eyes taunt me from across the room, his lingering touches light fire in my veins.

I hate him.

And I want him.

Even if it ruins me.

A sexy hero, a damaged heroine, sex, love, ANGST… this one put me through the ringer. Adriane Leigh gave me heart palpitations while reading this book. Thankfully, I was in the mood for emotional and angsty so Georgia's story really worked for me.

Georgia buys a beach house in North Carolina. She is staying there in the summer to renovate with her best friends, Silas and Drew. Her workaholic boyfriend, Kyle is staying behind. Georgia loves it at the beach house. She feels at home there for the first time in the longest time. Drew’s boyfriend Gavin also comes along. And brings his best friend/business partner, Tristan. Tristan and Georgia have this immediate connection. Georgia tries her best not to get involved with him, but she is drawn to him.

Tristan and Georgia broke my heart. Nothing is worse than wanting something with all your heart that you just can’t have. Forbidden love. I am a sucker for it. And their love was so wrong, yet it was so so right! Tristan was the absolute best. And even though Georgia drove me a little crazy at times, I still loved her. Silas, her BFF was amazing! Adored him.

The chemistry between them- off the charts. The sex- intense and crazy hot. Is this a book I would recommend? Most definitely- unless . I love Adriane’s writing style. This book was painful, emotional and beautiful. I can’t wait to read the second.

*I listened to the audio version of The Mourning After. I thought the narrator did a fantastic job of capturing Georgia’s voice and emotions.

*3.5 Stars*

A sweet, sexy, and angsty story that didn't necessarily knock my socks off, but made for an overall enjoyable read.

I must point out that the cover of this book is gorgeous and perfectly displays the peaceful, summer, beachy setting of this story. The prologue is infused with a power and intrigue which I believed foreshadowed what would be an equally powerful plot. However, with the exception of a few sporadic, intense flashbacks presented through our heroine's dreams, the tone of this story was mostly light and almost fluffy.

The Mourning After kicks off with Georgia and some close friends heading to her newly purchased beach house on the Carolina Coast, where she plans to stay for the summer—without her always-busy, overachieving boyfriend, Kyle.

Georgia has a heartbreaking past and Kyle has always been there to see her through it. But lately she questions if the comfort and familiarity of their long-term relationship overshadows their actual love...

Enter the gorgeous, laid back, charming womanizer, Tristan—whose sexy and sweet presence sparks an immediate interest in Georgia ... thus igniting a complicated love triangle.

I knew he was trouble wrapped up in a sexy, charming, seductive package.

In regard to love triangles, I'd say this one was fairly mild in relation to others. Yes, there was betrayal, guilt, indecision-on-repeat—but I'd say that Kyle's condescending attitude and sparse presence in the story helped to soften the blow.

Tristan was definitely the ultimate ladies man and not at all reluctant to let it show. The fact that Georgia quickly became his exception was a bit predictable, but sweet nonetheless. Tristan's love for life and easy going nature made him the polar opposite of Georgia's workaholic boyfriend, but I felt Tristan's 'whoring around' was a bit too pronounced and felt slightly forced, at times.

The writing style didn't pull me in as much as I'd hoped, but I truly adored the concept and setting of this story. There were some points where I felt this book became slightly redundant and uneventful, but I have to admit that the steamy scenes were off-the-charts sexy and incredibly descriptive.

You destroyed me. I'm not the person I was before I met you and I can't go back. Nothing works anymore without you.

In sum, this was a tender, steamy read, and I honestly loved the hopeful message that was presented: Learning to let go and having the courage to venture out of your comfort zone while risking it all in the name of true love!

Please play this song as you read my review - it matches the story perfectly

I really enjoyed this one – really felt that Adriane Leigh came in to her own and poured her heart and soul into this story. When I can feel that the author’s doing that, then I feel the same way about her characters as she does and I really did adore Tristan and Georgia.

This is a clever retelling of the ancient story of Tristan and Iseult and, if you’re familiar with that story, then you’ll have an inkling as to the situation that Georgia finds herself in this story but I don’t want to give anything away in my review and spoil it for you – you’re just going to have to read the book yourself!

So, we begin with Georgia making an impetuous decision to buy a run-down beach house on the North Carolina coast with her inheritance and to overhaul it with a view to be able to rent it out. She quits her job in DC and moves in for the summer with her gay best friend Silas, her female best friend Drew, Drew’s latest squeeze Gavin and Gavin’s friend, the one and only Tristan.

I fell head over heels in love with Tristan as I read this book. He’s a hopeless flirt and a real ladies man and he’s been moving through women at warp-speed and is not big on commitment but something about Georgia calls to him soul-deep and he can’t resist the challenge she poses with her reluctance to let him in.

“It's okay, Georgia. If you’re not ready I won't force you. But I’m going to spend the entire summer helping you come to the realization that you want me too.” The corner of his mouth lifted in a grin.

Tristan is just so sweet and funny and oh so very sexy – he absolutely charmed the pants off me. I read this with a big goofy grin on my face. Georgia has tragedy in her past and she’s carrying around a strong burden of guilt and ultimately Tristan realises that she has to forgive herself and learn to love herself again before she can be open to his advances and as he falls for her and she falls for him, their growing affections slowly help her to heal. It’s a beautiful story of emotional growth as Tristan reawakens a side of Georgia that has been dormant for many years. I was completely engrossed as I was sucked in right from the very beginning, my attention held rapt right through to the very end.

I really did love Georgia too and truly felt her pain and sorrow. I think it would be easy to stand in judgement over some of her actions during this story but it was so sensitively handled by Adriane Leigh that I felt only sympathy for her. I really wanted her to reach out and take what Tristan was offering, desperate for them to find some happiness together. He made her feel beautiful and wanted and special – things that she hasn’t felt for a very long time but her reluctance is taking an emotional toll on Tristan too.

“Georgia, please, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you, but I need to know. I can’t keep living like this. I can’t see you in the house and not touch you. Not be with you. I need to know,” he whispered the last sentence, his own eyes now pleading for me to understand. Tristan stood and reached for me, wrapping a hand around my cheek and threading his fingers in my hair. “Choose this, Georgia. Choose us.”

I’ve read Adriane Leigh’s Steel and Lace trilogy before and I said in my review of that one that she really does write the most sensually erotic scenes and that was definitely also true of The Mourning After. The sex scenes are so full of passion and heart-warming emotion – they really did leave me breathless. While I did really enjoy Steel & Lace, I honestly felt that Adriane Leigh poured all of her heart and soul into this one and when the author feels so strongly about her characters and their plight and that is coming through loud and clear through her words, then I feel it too. I was completely absorbed in their story, rooting for them to let go of their past and embrace their feelings for one another, terrified that they wouldn’t and practically cheering when they finally succumbed to all that pent up passion and suppressed emotion with tears pouring down my face. It’s just sublime.

There’s no cliff-hanger but the story is not over yet as we will get to continue Tristan and Georgia’s journey with them later in the year in The Light of Mourning.

4.5 charming and sexy stars

The Mourning After is told mostly from Georgia’s POV and, after I finished it, I really wanted to hear something from Tristan and asked Adriane to rewrite a scene for me. As so many of the scenes would be spoilery, we agreed on the scene when Tristan meets Georgia for the first time – Click Here

Wow.

I've read Adriane Leigh before. I read her Steel and Lace series and enjoyed it, giving it four stars. But, for me, The Mourning After was another league.

I seem to be on a bit of a love triangle roll at the moment. And I just love them. The angst, the emotional whiplash, the yo-yoing... Yum!

And The Mourning After was a fantastic love triangle romance!
I didn't really know what to expect with this novel. But it wasn't this.

This is the story of Georgia Montgomery. Georgia has been with her boyfriend, Kyle, since they were kids... but there relationship isn't passionate or romantic. It's safe, comfortable. Boring. Habit.
On a whim, Georgia buys a house by the beach. She plans to fulfil a dream, do the house up, enjoy time spent by the water and then perhaps rent the house out. Perhaps. Unless she falls in love with it, of course.
Kyle doesn't share this dream. He works long hours, is devoted to his job and doesn't have time for much else.
Georgia spends the summer at her new beach house, redecorating, catching up with friends. And that's where she meets the gorgeous, easy going Tristan. And that's when things get complicated.

There was something about this novel that was so atmospheric. I swear I could almost hear the waves from the beach and taste the warmth of the Georgia and Tristan's morning coffee. I loved the feel of it all. The mental imagery of the beach house, the porch, the beach...

Georgia frustrated me at times. She is indecisive and makes piss poor decisions. But Georgia has a dark past. There are reasons that she clings to Kyle. There is a lot of back and forth in this book and sometimes, it made my head spin.

One minute she wanted Kyle. Then she wanted Tristan. Then she couldn't let go of Kyle. And then she couldn't live without Tristan. Gah! Sort your life out, girl!!!

But I knew there was more to this than met the eye. Adriane Leigh hinted, throughout the story, that Georgia had deep seated reasons for being with Kyle. But, she kept everything pretty vague until near the end. And I couldn't stop flicking the pages to find out what had happened in her past.

I never liked Kyle. I was Team Tristan all the way. He was self centred, uncaring and just a bit of an arse. I hated that he didn't care about her dreams. I wanted him to make some monumental fuck-up so that Georgia's decision would be easier.

The surrounding characters are great. Georgia's friends, Silas and Drew. Drew's boyfriend and Tristan's best buddy, Gavin. They all added to that atmosphere I was talking about earlier. I want to play poker and drink White Russians with them.

I want to say I loved Tristan at all times. But I didn't. Overall, I did love him. When he was being nice, he was lovely and easy to fall for. But he could also be a complete douche at times. When he was hurting, he needed a slap! He was aggressive in his seduction. A lot of angry sex, spiteful teasing and innuendos.

I wanted him to hold Georgia and gently coax her into sharing her secrets... but he was a man scorned and instead he turned to his 'slut brigade' and hot dirty fucking.

Oh but I did want to give him a cuddle. He was in pain and he didn't know how to deal with that. I'm looking forward to reading more of him and hoping he gets the chance to chill out more in the second book.

Speaking of dirty sex... like I said, there is some super hot angry sex in this. Desperate, bruise-leaving, swollen-mouth-kissing sex. And I'd imagine it left sand in all kinds of unwanted crevices. ;)

I'd definitely recommend this book. It's frustrating, but in the best kind of way. Not in a 'Oh my god, this is ridiculous' kind of way. More in a 'Oh god, come on guys, get your shit together', love-triangle way.

There is a second book in this series. The ending isn't a cliffhanger, but it isn't resolved or happy ever after, either. It's kind of sweet, but definitely open ended. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of Georgia's story. I think she has a whole journey of self discovery ahead of her now.

Georgia, on a whim, decides to buy an oceanfront beach house in North Carolina. She's been with her current boyfriend Kyle since they were 12-years old. He helped her endure a very painful past...a past that still haunts her in her sleep. But their relationship is lukewarm at best. He's a workaholic and she's feeling second fiddle. He's not happy she buys this house but there's nothing he can say. So, she invites her besties Drew and Silas to spend the summer with her renovating the place and enjoying life. Drew brings along her boyfriend Gavin and his buddy Tristan.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Tristan decides to tag along for a summer of fun and sailing. Owning his own sailboat, he journeys to NC to party and hook up with beach beauties. But when he meets the owner of the house he's staying at, he's amazed how his sights are only for her. His man whore reputation be damned. He wants her...and only her.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Georgia and Tristan have a deep seated connection from the start. She's able to talk to him like he really "gets" her. It doesn't take long for the emotional connection over long morning chats on the seaside, to roll into a physical pull. Georgia is pulled into two directions...her loyalty to Kyle versus this new connection to Tristan. She's angry at Kyle for letting her take off for a summer and not so much as visit...work always coming first.

Well, if you're not a fan of love triangles, I'd steer clear of this book. I can deal with the whole love triangle thing unless the heroine is flip flopping and pulling the whole, "I don't want you but you can't have anyone else" card. Georgia drove me batshit. Back and forth. Back and forth. Tristan was so sweet, hot, girls falling for him and every time Georgia snapped her fingers, he came back running.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

There were several points I contemplating dnf'ing the book but Georgia had a secret, what caused her nightmares, that kept the pages turning. Then at 90%, we learn something about Kyle and I about threw my kindle to the wall. Had it been earlier in the book, I'd given up.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

So, if you're a huge fan of wishy washy heroines, men that are weak and are truly far from perfect themselves, this book is for you. There's a sequel to this book but I just can't stomach more drama from these three...

And I thank you...

SUMMARY (60 words or less)
One of the things I love about this book is that the twist are necessarily predicable. From the start my guesses are wrong and I’m in heaven. I love surprises. And the heat level with tension is off the charts. Looking for a really good read, look no further.

Original Review:

I really, really, really, really enjoyed this. My eyes were brimming with tears (unshed, but there) through an entire chapter. It was heartbreaking. Bad decisions, broken past...

Very Mild Spoiler, but important for many readers out there: This involved 'cheating'. If you can handle 'cheating' romances (although this is not as intensely moral as some - Does that make sense?) this situation didn't leave me feeling as dirty as some. I was, in fact, rooting for the cheat to happen.

The steam went up to an '11' in this book. My, oh, my. Is there somewhere I can sign up for a Tristan? Please? I know many readers were 'Team Kyle' at first, but not me. From the very start, I was 'Team Tristan' all the way. I don't care if it was 'wrong', because if Tristan is 'wrong' I don't want to be 'right'.

Hang on to your bootstraps for this one, too! It lulls you into this false sense of predictability, then *WHOOP* pulls the rug out from under your feet. Another total ♥ about the book, this is meant to begin a series, if I am understanding it right yet reads as a stand-alone HEA. That is total magic for me. I love series, because I become attached to characters and want more; but the 'dark side' of cliffy series endings is a recurring theme. Not so with The Mourning After, that warm fuzzy HEA is just waiting there at the end like a ray of sunshine, and the promise of another warm day in the future.

Anyone that enjoys romances with broken pasts, cheating love triangles, and sizzling passion... you don't want to miss this!

I received an ARC from Adriane Leigh in exchange for an unbiased, honest review.

Edit: 10/11/13 Stands up to re-read with 5 fantastic hearts.

I try not to judge the characters too harshly but I found all the main harassers to be extremely immature and self centered. For professionals, there seemed to be actions of college freshmen.

Very one dimensional writing and little character and plot development. A lot of sex as a coping mechanism and to avoid making life decisions.

I never warmed to Georgia and I may have felt something for her if the author didn’t want until the end to reveal what made her an emotional mess. Tristan was a man whore for no real reason. I just didn’t see how this one was so emotional. I won’t read the sequel.

Loved Loved Loved this!

I have a very love/hate relationship with love triangle books. I loved the likes of Thoughtless but had a real hard time getting through From Ashes. I've come to the realisation that my issue is with the characters in said books, not the love triangle aspect itself. If I'm reading about young, teen girls in a love triangle then I find myself wanting to strangle and kill them. If they are adult characters, in adult situations then I find that I can deal with it much better. Thankfully The Mourning After was about adult characters in established relationships and I felt that the heroine was truly torn over what to do for the best.

Georgia has been with her current boyfriend, Kyle, a LONG TIME. I'm talking childhood friends to lovers long time, but lately their relationship has been strained. Kyle is working towards a promotion at the law firm where he works and his head is constantly stuck in a book or at an office, leaving Georgia alone 90% of the time. Instead of working through the issue together, Georgia ends up buying a house on the beach 300 miles away and decides to spend the summer there with her best friends.

I adored Georgia's best friends. Originally it was supposed to be her gay best friend, Silas and her other friend Drew. There wasn't one thing I could dislike about these two friends, they are the sort that every body should have in their life. As usual though, plans aren't always stuck to and Drew ends up not only inviting her latest boyfriend, but his friend Tristan too. And this is where all the fun starts.
"I knew he was trouble wrapped up in a sexy, charming, seductive package."

From the off I was a massive fan of Tristan's and knew for sure that if Georgia didn't end up with him then I was going to have a fit. He was absolutely everything you could wish for in a book boyfriend (maybe not an actual boyfriend so much though..). He was gorgeous, a mahoosive flirt and knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to women. The only problem? He is a huge manwhore. He isn't one for settling down and he sure as hell isn't afraid to show you that.

The relationship between Georgia and Tristan didn't start up instantly and I have to give the author credit for not making Georgia like some easy, slutty girl who just jumps in to bed with a new man straight away. Georgia was very much aware of the fact she had a boyfriend who she loved but at the same time, she knew that their relationship hadn't been right for a long time. Of course though, Tristan wanted Georgia and he was going to do everything in his power to get her.

description

I whizzed through reading this and ended up reading the last 40% or so in one big chunk because I just couldn't put it down. I needed to know that, despite her reservations, Georgia was going to make the right decision not only for the two men in her life, but for herself. She's lived through an awful time in her past and is so used to thinking of others and thanking others for getting her through it that she ends up forgetting about herself. I hoped she would make the decision that made her happy for once.

The last 20% had my stomach in knots. I could never truly tell which way the author was going to go. Would she stay with Kyle because she felt like she owed him for all he has helped her with in the past? Or would she follow what her heart really wants and go with Tristan because he finally makes her feel alive? I had no clue. One minute I thought one thing, the next I'd had a complete 180 and thought the other. Even though it had me feeling all sorts of crazy, the author did a great job of keeping you on your toes.
"If you let go of the past - let go of the pain - if you followed your heart, you may find something beautiful."

If you are a fan of a love triangle with more mature characters then I would say this one is for you. I was comparing it to Thoughtless a lot of the time and can honestly say Georgia is in no way as annoying as Keira. I really felt her pain and her reasons for being so unsure were valid. I loved every minute.

Love triangle between Kyle, Tristan and Georgia. Georgia has been with Kyle since she was 12 years old - he is her rock but does she love him or is he just someone she feels safe with. Georgia buys herself a beach cottage to renovate in the summer. Georgia's friend join her along with Tristan and Gavin. Tristan is a charming hot alpha male but a "man whore". The seduction in the story is extremely hot and sensual. Georgia has secrets, can she let go and trust Tristan? Only at the end of the book to you find out the truths about Kyle and Georgia. I loved this story and look forward to the sequel The Mourning After 2

Holy moly on angst.... Loved loved loved it! It had me laughing and crying and frustrated and hot!!!! You can feel all emotions of the characters, just wonderful.

Georgia Montgomery bought a beach house to get away from her painful past, without telling Kyle, her boyfriend. Invited her two best friends, Drew and Silas, to join her for a summer of fun.

Tristan came with Drew's boyfriend Gavin to join them for the summer and Georgia is instantly drawn to Tristan.

But Georgia is with Kyle, she's always been with Kyle, but Kyle was never there for Georgia. And Tristan is tagged a man-whore. But they couldn't help the pull they have together. Georgia tries to deny her feelings for Tristan, but she can't seem to stay away from him. When this two finally got together, it was sooooo darn hot!

Georgia Montgomery drives me insane!!!! Make up your mind already!!!! Not to say Tristan is driving me nuts too by bringing all those sluts in front of Georgia!!! AAAAAAHHHH!!!!

Highly recommend, if you want lots of angst and hot sexual tension and steamy romance, grab this book now!!!!! I can't wait for the next book.... CANNOT!!!!

Another one to add to my list... :)

Still reeling from a painful past, Georgia Montgomery escapes her pain by buying a beach house on the North Carolina coast. She hopes a summer filled with sun, sand, margaritas and best friends will heal her, but when an unexpected visitor shows up, her past, present and future collide.

Georgia is instantly drawn to Tristan Howell, the bronze-skinned, golden-haired stranger with an easy smile and eyes the deepest shade of green she's ever seen. She tries to deny the depth of her feelings for him, but just like an addiction- one look, one touch, one taste is never enough. With Tristan she loses control of the lonely world she's constructed for herself and learns that moving forward isn't possible while she's still chained to the events of her past.

Before the summer is over friendships will be tested, hearts shattered and lives changed, and waiting for Georgia to find herself may destroy them all.

I have to think about my review before I write it for this one. Some parts made me angry. Some parts made me ecstatic! And, some parts had me scratching my head with confusion. Can't figure out if I like any of the main characters or not. Supporting characters were awesome, though. And, the writing was fabulous! Just don't know exactly how I feel about their decisions at times. So, bear with me until I can explain...

Oh Lordy!! This was one hell of a frustrating read!!

description

I mean, the girl, Georgia, goes through a dramatic event as a child and it pretty much shapes who she becomes as an adult. Years later, she is in a committed relationship with long time boyfriend but decides to take a break from city life for the summer and buy a beach house in North Carolina.

That is, with besties: Drew (who's a girl) and Silas (her gay buddy), and no boyfriend at her side.

Along the way, she meets Drew's new flame and his best friend, Tristan.

She and Tristan develop an immense attraction for each other which turns into a passionate affair. Only, she's already taken.

Filled with guilt and remorse for cheating, will their love be nothing more than a summer fling? Or is it something more?

And even more so, when Georgia's daunting past threatens to tear them apart, how will they succumb? Or is it simply not meant to be?

My thoughts: So...for those of you who read the word "cheating" in my review, YES there is a lot of that in here. Cheating is actually a hard limit of mine: one of which I stay clear away (along with love triangles which too is featured in this read) from but in my defense: I had no idea that it would be included in this novel until I finally read it.

This annoyed me to no end and often frustrated me with Georgia.

description

She loves her boyfriend, but it's more of a comfort and familiarity kind of thing. And yet, here's Tristan and he makes her feel alive for once in her life.

I don't know guys, this book made me want to

someone.

Georgia: with her hot and cold reactions to Tristan and then going mental after he would try to move on from her. Tristan: for not pusher harder and encouraging Georgia to break it off with her boyfriend before getting involved and getting emotionally attached to her. Gah!!

*sighs*

description

On the bright side though, I DID LIKE Drew x Gavin and Silas. Drew and Gavin made a lovely couple and Silas was just entertaining.

Otherwise, this read was just not for me. Sorry!

I'm not gonna lie, Georgia is quite possibly one of the most selfish characters I've ever come across.

So she has this douche-y boyfriend who she has been with for a while. I can't remember his name right now, but he was so boring, and such a pointless side character that I don't think it really matters. Douche doesn't give her the time of day because he cares more about his job. Georgia has been with him for ages though, so according to her, that must mean they are destined to marry each other and live happily ever after.

Then we meet Tristan. Tristan is a bad boy with a capital B. You know what's coming don't you? Yep...She cheats on douche with Tristan. When she finally remembers that she has a boyfriend, she puts a stop to it, so what does Tristan do?! Finds two skanks to play tonsil tennis with in front of Georgia. Georgia sees this and gets upset even though she has a boyfriend herself. Seeing that this is upsetting her, Tristan kicks skank 1 and 2 to the kerb and starts kissing and dry-humping Georgia instead. Now lets just pause here for a minute. I don't know about you, but if a guy I liked was sticking his tongue down someone else's throat, then tried to do the same to me straight after, I would be like WTF! But clearly Georgia wasn't the least bit bothered.

Everytime they would kiss, she would feel guilty the next day and push Tristan away, yet do it again a few pages later. Honestly, she was just really annoying.

We also learn towards the end of the book that she witnessed her parents' murders. Her father asks her to hide under the bed to save herself. One of the reasons she doesn't wanna let go of Kyle is because he was there for her when she told him all this. Georgia seems to have it in her head that if Tristan found out that she hid, he would suddenly despise her. How ridiculous is that? She was an FUCKING CHILD! What was she supposed to do? Karate chop the murderers to save her parents?

The whole thing was just stupid. ARGH!

2.5 stars. I thought this was OK. Around half way I started to loose interest and started skimming. Unfortunately It didn't hold my interest enough to go on to book two.

3.5 ⭐️

This book has been sitting on my kindle for 6 years and I think the cover and the title were deterring me from starting it. However when I read the synopsis I saw it was a love triangle and I went Cha-Ching!!! My favourite kind of trope.

It had a Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens plot line and feel about it (but with older characters ) which I enjoyed but sadly it wasn’t as tight or as polished.

There were times when I felt the angst, the chemistry and the guilt but overall the execution let it down.

Kyle was definitely no Denny and I don’t understand why the author didn’t let us see the real Kyle until the last few chapters......

Tristan was very much like KK even down to being an early rising coffee drinker who say’s Mornin’.

This book didn’t end on a cliffy per se but things aren’t resolved and there is a 2nd book but I don’t own it and I’m not that interested to continue so this is where I’ll leave it.

This book was an amazing, emotional ride...lost sleep chasing the HEA that was always just out of reach:)

Georgia coasted through life not truly living since tragedy struck at a young age. She buys a beach house on impulse, never knowing that this is where her life begins. The road to self discovery and true love is heartfelt and will stay with you long after the last page is read.

Tristan is a smooth talking, sexy "man whore" with a heart of gold. I will admit to lusting after this hottie and here is how picture his sexy ass...

Here's Georgia...

The chemistry between these two burns up the pages and has you fanning yourself - quite literally!

A must read for anyone who loves a story with twists and turns, a love triangle and a bit of history in the re-telling/reading of the tragic love story "Tristan and Iseult".

5 Heart-Stopping hearts! <3

This book was previously titled The Moring After. It has been edited and more added to it. I've never read the previous title.
I'm not forsure why this book is classified as a enemies to lovers. Georgia and Tristan never hated each other at all.

Georgia has had a tragic pass and is still haunted by it. When she meets Tristan at the beach house she bought in North Carolina, she is instantly drawn to him even though she has a boyfriend back home. She feels like she has to choose Kyle because they have been together since high school, and he has been her rock since she was twelve.

Tristan just wants Georgia to choose him. He wants to be there for her, and help keep her nightmares away.

Kyle is too busy trying to get a promotion at his job in D.C. to help her with the house for the summer. She feels like she is never a priority in his life.

Tristan and Georgia have tons of chemistry, and are super hot together.

Warning: there is cheating, Tristan sleeps with other women

2 1/2 stars.

I contemplated DNF-ing this so many times, but I'm a bad DNF-er so I just couldn't. This was pretty short or I probably wouldn't have finished.

I had no problem with the love triangle or the cheating, I just didn't connect with the characters at all. I couldn't bring myself to feel anything for what Georgia was going through and I just wasn't invested in what happened. I couldn't find any depth in the characters actions or feelings. The dialogue was bland and I never got into it. It was just meh for me, but I can see why so many others liked it. It's very angsty and has some sweet moments. It just wasn't for me.

How far would you go in the name of friendship and loyalty? Would you cast aside true love and happily-ever-after?

Adriane Leigh is a new-to-me author whose latest release is a poignant and memorable story. A cast of unforgettable characters, both main and secondary, fill the pages with great conversation, fun times, as well as getting down to the nitty gritty on serious matters taking place within their tight-knit group.

A romantic triangle that might at first appear calloused and unfair influences readers to automatically hurl insults and criticism. However, the familiar quote, “nothing is as it seems,” quickly comes to mind and it certainly plays havoc with the scenario here. This triangle has three sides and each has its own story – at times surprising as well as shocking.

I would be remiss if I didn't praise the author's writing skills, especially her ability to write romance where the sensuality scorches the pages with vivid, meaningful and heartfelt scenes.

Although you may feel that the ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, there is a happy for now ending. A second book, “Light of Mourning” is scheduled for release in the Fall 2013, and I'll definitely be reading it.

4 Tristan stars of scorching hotness!!

Took me a while to get into the story/connect with the female character Georgia, times I wanted to take my frying pan to her and knock some sense into her, and if anyone says they didn't feel like that are lying!! lol She drove me insane!! But getting over that I did enjoy the story..

Can't wait for book 2!!

Wow what a great story. So glad it was recommended to me and I read it. I haven't added a book boyfriend to my mental mind in a while, but Tristan has been added to the list. I was getting agitated with Georgia as I tend to do when I find a new boyfriend but I was more understanding of her at the end. This will be a drop everything and read when book 2 comes out and I hope that is soon.

Nice work!! This was a book I really liked, though it made me kind of mad, you know? Why? Georgia's attitude. Ugh.
She had Kyle - which I hated (douche) and she had Tristan - which was kind of very extreme HOT.
And the ending was just as perfect I hoped it will be.

You will seriously need a gigantic bottle of GermX, some Lysol wipes, and a bottle of bleach after reading this book.

I get having a long-time significant other that you feel comfortable and safe with and then meeting someone that sets you afire and makes you question if comfort and safety are really enough for the long haul.

I have no problem with that, and I'm sure it's a situation where there's a lot of second guessing and such, making angst a natural factor. I do, however, have a huge problem with the nasty, contradictory, and melodramatic shit that comprises this book.

Two main things make this book absolutely intolerable:

1. Wishy-washy BS that goes in mindless circles.

description

This is an author writing a love triangle involving cheating in the most wishy-washy, inconsistent way possible for the single purpose of CREATING conflict. What do I mean...

• The female mc repeats over and over how Kyle is "always there for her, always understanding, and always loving." YET, a few pages later, she turns around and contradicts that ^ by saying stuff like her gbff, Silas, moved in with her and saved her from sinking into depression because Kyle was never there.

• She said Kyle was never there for her emotionally, but then she turns around and contradicts that by saying he's the only one that keeps her nightmares at bay and could understand her pain.

• She bemoans about how Kyle will never understand nor forgive infidelity and how loving, sweet, and loyal the mfer is and all. You'd think he's a saint that just works too much, right? No! It turns out they have a past of him repeatedly having affairs over their 10 year relationship, which she always forgave.

So, which is it? Is he a rock - or - absent ass? Is he the prudish saint that would never understand an affair -or- a manipulative ass that has his own frequent affairs?

I'll tell you what it is.. It's concocted bs to fill the story.

2. Spin the tail on the tail

description

Get those cleaning products ready!!!

So, the female mc cheats on her LT boyfriend, Kyle. I don't like cheating novels, but I can deal if it's written well.

This isn't!

She cheats with Tristan & they actually have a mfing discussion about condoms. He has one, but they decide to NOT USE A CONDOM because they want to feel each other. Great~

She flips back and forth between the boyfriend and Tristan. Decision is finally made, and it's not Tristan.

Next thing... Bam... Tristan is in bed with some DIFFERENT ho(s) every night and rubbing it in the female MCs face as he does it in her house.

She's pissed about all his "whoring" even though a) she has a boyfriend b) she chose to stay with boyfriend c) he gave her an opportunity to ask him not to go out and f other people d) she told him to go live it up.

Female MC screws Tristan... Again with no condom... And all but tells him she still isn't leaving the boyfriend.

Cue the boyfriend arriving at pornRus vacation.

Female Mc now screws the boyfriend. Ironically enough, he prefers to wear a condom. Lmao. Good Gawd!

She agrees to wear an engagement ring while she ponders whether she will actually accept the engagement or not.

Same night she gets engaged... Yep, you guessed it... She screws Tristan, again!

She wakes up next to fiancé the next am. Tristan is MIA and she wonders herself into internal anger episode over if Tristan went off and screwed someone else. Good Gawd #melodrama #hypocrite #stupidwhore

The spin the tail on the tail only subsides because this bitch goes into a suicidal, near catatonic state because she can't decide who's cock she wants to rock.

This shit is not only nasty bed hopppppping Ekkkkkky, it's mfing angsty, melodramatic, hypocritical hoopla.

Way Too Much Ado

So the female MC has nightmares from her childhood. It's why she CANT leave her boyfriend... He understands and can comfort her and all. *eyeroll* Anyway, I'm thinking something like on a nuclear attack level happened to this chick the way she carries on about her childhood.

What happened is no doubt unpleasant, traumatic, and heartbreaking for a child. BUT, what she witnessed is not something that would tie her to this boyfriend in any way shape or form. It's not something other people would blame her for, as she insinuates several times. It's not something that stole her innocence, as she insinuates she was abused herself in some way.

It's overplayed for over 80% of the book, only to have it finally revealed with no gusto or ultimate meaning or importance in her decision on cocks.

Final Thoughts

I wish I'd have never opened this book! I'd recommend to the CIA as a torture device.

I absolutely loved The Morning After by Adriane Leigh. This is the first book that I have ever read by her, but it definitely will not be the last. I was instantly invested in this story and these characters, and I could not put this one down. I was so into this book that I did not want to stop for anything! I will warn you that this book does have a love triangle, and although there isn't a huge cliffhanger the story does continue in a second book. Honestly, this book is a must read and even if you are opposed to those things I would still recommend reading this one!

Georgia has been just getting by for a long time. Having lived through a terrible tragedy when she was only twelve, she relies on her boyfriend Kyle and her friends Drew and Silas to get by. Georgia decides to buy a beach house and spend the summer fixing it up. Kyle is busy advancing his law career and isn't able to go with her, so she asks her friends to go with her and help her out. When her friend Drew asks to bring her newest boyfriend, Georgia reluctantly agrees. But when Drew and Gavin show up, he brings his best friend Tristan along with him. Tristan has a reputation for being a playboy, and although Georgia is instantly attracted to him she wouldn't start anything even if she didn't have Kyle. But as the summer continues, the connection and attraction between Georgia and Tristan becomes more than either of them can fight. Georgia is left torn between the connection to Tristan that she has never felt with anyone including Kyle, and the one person who has helped her get through everything and that she has always planned to spend her life with.

I really loved Tristan. He was sweet and caring, and so sexy. He was always thinking about Georgia and he was there for her every time that she needed someone. I thought that they had a great connection from the start and that they were perfectly matched for each other. I hated seeing him suffer with his feelings for her knowing that she was with Kyle. I felt so bad for him but I didn't always agree with how he handled things. I know that he was trying to move on and get over things, but it was hard to see him purposely seek other women and sometimes go so far as to rub them in Georgia's face. Georgia drove me crazy! I both liked her and hated her sometimes. She had been through so much and felt loyalty and affection for Kyle that she shouldn't have after everything that he had done to her and how he treated her. She was blind when it cam to him. But other times she was so fun and playful and I really liked her. It was always when she was with Tristan that I liked her the most, and I think that he brought out the very best of her character. I also thought that Tristan and Georgia had such a strong and natural connection, and it went way beyond just the physical. I didn't like Kyle from the start, and I didn't feel the connection to him at all with her. I just felt like Kyle was a jerk and I couldn't get behind his character at all.

Overall, this book was fantastic. It was heartbreaking and beautiful, and definitely brought on the tears. I loved seeing Georgia and Tristan get to know each other and fall in love, but it was so hard to see them struggle through everything with Kyle. Georgia felt so bad for everything that was happening between her and Tristan, and yet Kyle seemed to have absolutely no regard for Georgia at all. I wish that she would have woken up sooner to what he was really like because everyone saw it but her. I absolutely cannot wait to get more of these characters though, and I am so excited to read the next book. I need more Tristan and Georgia and can't wait to see what Adriane Leigh has in store for them next. I really loved Leigh's writing style, and the characters were so complex and real to me. This one is a book that I highly recommend, and I think that readers will fall in love with Tristan and Georgia's story just like I did.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to love this book. I picked it up and tried reading it again and again over the course of a few weeks and I just couldn't get into it. I wanted to love this book because the author is incredibly sweet, and I feel really bad about not liking the book, but I can't help what I feel and she wants an honest review, so I'm going to be honest about what I thought.

Tristan is the main reason why I disliked this book. He drove me nuts (not in a good way.) Maybe if you're a fan of Christian Grey then you would like Tristan more, but I seriously couldn't stand him. He's the typical controlling fuck boy who only cares about himself. For some reason our main character Georgia falls head over heels for him (even though she's in a relationship with this guy Kyle who is not even really in the story but he's always mentioned.) I am not a fan of cheaters, I think it's so shallow and disrespectful to cheat on someone and I didn't like Georgia because she can so easily cheat on Kyle, it made me mad.

This book felt repetitive in the sense that Georgia would tell everyone how great Kyle is and how happy she is with him, then she would spend time with Tristan and constantly tell herself to stop gawking at him and pay attention to her love for Kyle, then something that I would consider cheating happens between Tristan and Georgia, then Georgia freaks out and convinces herself she was "just drunk" or something and that she still wants Kyle, then Tristan brings home another girl and she gets wildly jealous. Put that on repeat for 250 pages and we have this book.

One other thing that happens so often in this book is the use of the phrase: sex god, or greek god. I can't stand when guys are referred to in this way, it's just a personal pet peeve of mine, but it really bothers me. I hate when male characters are so insanely perfect looking that they can get away with acting like a douche but it's okay because they're sexy. Like no, it's not okay, you're still a douche, I don't care what you look like. Georgia is constantly swooning over this guy and her narrations get so repetitive and annoying because the whole time I'm thinking, either break up with your damn boyfriend or stop thinking about Tristan. I also hate how Georgia's friends try and make Kyle out to be some bad guy because he won't visit them in the summer, meanwhile Kyle is busy in New York being a lawyer. He's doing his damn job, he's not just blowing her off. What kind of friends encourage behavior like cheating? I think she needs new friends if they are encouraging her to make bad decisions.

Another reason I didn't like Tristan: just because he's attractive doesn't mean I'm going to like him as a reader. Tristan acts like a douche 99% of the time and I'm supposed to care about him? He is such a hypocrite because one minute he'll be telling Georgia: "I'm going to spend the summer showing you why you need to be with me instead of Kyle" and then the next night he's bringing other girls home and she gets mad at him and then he's like: "I'm trying to move on, it's what I do," and it's like seriously??? He is so flaky and indecisive. I also don't like how aggressive he was in one of the first romantic scenes between him and Georgia when they are dancing in the club and they are both drunk, and she keeps telling him to stop because she has a boyfriend and he says: "Your mouth says stop but your body says go," and "I can tell you want me too," and trying to make it seem like it's okay to cheat because her boyfriend isn't here at the moment. It's way too aggressive and douchey and I can't stand it. If he really gave a hit about her he would back off and respect her decision.

I could go on and on all day but I really just couldn't stand Georgia or Tristan. The only characters I liked in this book were Silas (her gay best friend) and Kyle (who wasn't even really in it but I felt bad for him.) At the end of the day, this book just wasn't for me and I'm really bummed about it.

"I want you, all of you, Georgia. And I want you to want me too."

Full of romance, passion, and angst, "The Mourning After," kept me turning pages anxious to read more. I want to start by saying, this book was not what I expected.. at all. It was so much better.
The book starts off with Georgia, the lead character, buying a house at the NC shore. She invites her best friends, Silas and Drew to tag along for the summer with plans of fixing up the house. Drew invites her new boyfriend, Gavin, along and he brings along a friend. My, my, my.. Tristan.

Right from the moment they meet, Georgia knows she's in trouble. I mean, who could turn down a walking sex God? So yeah, trouble indeed. You see, Georgia has a boyfriend whom she lives with back home in DC, Kyle. Do you see where this is going? Her relationship with Kyle goes way back to their childhood. He was the person she could always count on.. he knew her secret.. her past.

As usual, things don't go as planned.. so much more happens. So.Much.More. Tristan and Georgia develop a friendship that quickly turns into something she never expected. Queue the HOTNESS in this book.
"I can feel what I do to you: your heart pounding, your chest heaving, your nipples hardening (...) your legs shifting back and forth, begging me to touch you."

"I want my tongue all over your body."

My heart raced and ached for Tristan and Georgia. There is so much passion between them, you feel their chemistry sizzling off the pages.
"Every night I go to bed and I think about you. Every morning I get out of bed and can't wait to see you..."

"I want to be with you. I can't get you out of my head."

There were moments when I wanted to smack some sense into Georgia, but I also fully understand why she does and says certain things. Her story is just.. heart-breaking. That was one sad scene to read, let me tell ya. So yes, I understand her, which is why, even though I got pissed sometimes, I never felt like I disliked her character. But her actions and certain decisions, led to a lot of angsty, page-turning scenes.
"I've waited so long to feel anything and you make me feel, so I'm not letting you go without a fight."

Overall, this was a very well written book. I definitely consider it a must-read. There were a few details that reminded be of Thoughtless by SC Stephens but the general plot had it's own thing going on, so it was just a great read. There was a lot of character development and the story line had a smooth flow. I have to say, I love Silas and Drew! These two always speak their minds, without filter, definitely adding humor to an emotional plot.

Regarding the ending.. I really don't know how to express my feelings.. so I'll just write what literally happened..
The book was finally in a good place... great place really.. and then.. the end --> my reaction: "DON'T END NOW!!!! I WANT MORE!!!!" (with a huge grin across my face, mind you)
So yes, when I read those wonderful words saying that the story was going to continue in a sequel expected to be released this fall.. my other reaction was: "SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" :)

So, you can say, I liked the ending and loved the book !!!

Highly recommend you read it!
"It felt like I was finally right where I wanted to be. It felt like I was home."
