This is my review for the series as a whole...
I have fell victim to yet another Smoak series. When I finished The Hunted series and heard there was another series about Penny and James, I knew I had to read it. And I quickly flew through it just as fast as the others.
In this series we get both Penny and James’ pov. And it was everything. My heart hurt so very much reading this one. I bawled ugly tears. My heart broke over and over for them both. Especially with book 2. I wasn’t sure I could handle all the emotions being whirled at me. It tore at me.
One heart stopping, emotion driven moment after another. 5 Stars!

Well this was different

Unnecessary
This book to me was unnecessary. I have read the entire series to this point and I'm going to finish it but this whole memory loss just re-created the beginning of the series. It was unnecessary to go through this again. I only paid attention to the end of the book because it made more sense to tell her everything than this hiding nonsense.

What a nightmare Penny and James are going through! I am totally captivated by this couple. One more book and I hope they can return to normal.

Gosh! I cant EVEN with this book! Penny &
James have the perfect life, but she can’t remember ANY of it. I was captivated by this book and flew through it, because I just had to know what happens!
I can’t imagine what this couple is going through, and can’t wait to find out how their story ends! Will she remember? Will she create a new normal? The book ends with a huge cliffhanger, in true Ivy fashion, so onto book 3!!

If a facepalm was a book, it would be this one. WTF is going on?!
To say I've skipped around with this series is an understatement. I read the first 2 books in the Hunted series and I thought it could have ended there and been just fine. I read a bunch of reviews and spoilers for books 3 and 4 bc I didn't know if I wanted to continue. Those reviews really put me off and was pretty sure I would drop this series. The rest sounded like a mess and I was not up for reading any of that. I slept on it and decided today to just skip to the very last book (This is Love) and read that. That left me a little more curious and so now I'm reading this book and I don't even know what to think.
Penny is being absolutely ridiculous. I know she thinks she's 19 but OH. MY. GOD! It's like she's a completely different version of the 19 year old she ACTUALLY WAS! Her immaturity is killing me! I know you're confused but fucking stop for one minute!!! DAMN!! I really cannot stand her in this book. She's terrible.
And James.....come on man! I know enough about the other books to know things were far from smooth sailing with this couple but this is just so infuriating! I understand easing Penny into some aspects of her life (especially since she's completely going off the rails and acting like a brat) but keeping so much from her is clearly not working. These "adults", and I use that word loosely, are really fucking this situation up. Everyone is being so vague. I don't know how much more I can do of this

Okay, so I finished this book. Still didn't love it, mainly because of Penny, but I did finish it. I have since gone back and skimmed, but also read a good chunk, of books 3 and 4 of the Hunted series. The thing that bugged me the most about this particular book was Penny. I do not like the way her character was written. She's so childish. I read a book not long ago with the whole amnesia trope. Although that main character also struggled to come to terms with the life she forgot and the husband she couldn't remember, it was nothing like this. This was so chaotic and not in a good way. I do enjoy having James POV immensely (I always prefer multiple POV's) but with his constant self-deprecating ways, it got tired. You would think after 4 years of marriage and everything else they would have become more solid. There is always so much doubt floating around, especially with James. After all they went through and the life they built together, he still isn't secure in his relationship. It was maddening. Anyway, this is probably my least favorite book of James and Penny's story. It was really frustrating, and again, not in a good way.

I CAN’TTTT. I literally just finished this book in 3 hours..
I have never loved characters so much as I did in the Hunted Series and now this series! And never have I loved and breathed EVERY. SINGLE. BOOK. of an author before!

I could not stop bawling my eyes the minute I started reading A Whirlwind of Color. This book is so intensely raw, showing you the real tragedies and the downs of love! Going along this about 7 book series with James and Penny, as well as their family, has taught me so much. I cannot encourage more that everyone HAVE TO read it!

She squeezed my hand. “You’re not in college anymore. Don’t you remember?”
“Of course I’m still in college. It’s not like I dropped out. I’d never do that. I love school.”
She stared at me. “Penny, you’re 26 years old.”

Had me in tears from the start. I wanted to know who found James after he collapsed? He'd obviously been saved & taken to the hospital himself but this part was skipped. We basically go straight to him waiting for Penny to wake. I can't believe that when she finally wakes they have yet another barrier in their way. I read the Empire High series first so although I knew it would work out, I had to keep reminding myself. This part is dark & really has you on James' team screaming for Penny to "come back". It's nice to see that James' dad has become closer to his family but I spent a lot of the book wondering what had happened to his horrid wife & wondering where Mason & Matt Cauldwell's parents are this time round? Little Scarlett breaks my heart & I love her scenes with her daddy. I really think these characters should be on screen. A tv series based on all of the characters. The Cauldwells, The Hunters & their friends. It would need to be at least 7 series worth & would be so watchable. It could be the modern equivalent to Dallas & Dynasty back in the 80's just without the greed, bitchiness & fighting over oil.

Remembering love
This book was a lot. My heart broke for James, but even more for Penny. At least James knew what their love felt like and that wasn't the same for Penny. Everything she knew as her reality was gone. I fell more in love with the flawed character that was James. He was doing his best to ease her back into their life. The way he loved her was just so beautiful. Sweet Scar....They say children have great instincts and that definitely held true in both stories. Penny drive me crazy ignoring her instincts, but I understood the need to allow her to grow. I will be moving right to the next story. I just see how this all ends.

I didn't DNF because it was extremely short and I was slightly curious as how everything would unfold
HOWEVER, it was such a short book and it had so many extracts from previous books in the series, I was rereading complete scenes from temptation, not even from James' pov, like ivy just copy pasted half the book from previous works, I did not like that, at all

While this is a good book, I’m a little over all the drama. I know that’s what keeps people hanging on, but there were a few things I couldn’t get passed. One is leaving your newborn in the NICU alone..... hoping the next book brings a bit less drama. (I love the idea behind the amnesia - I guess I’m just sick of people not speaking up)

I bought the audiobooks for all 7 of James & Penny's books and I think Meghan Crawford's is the perfect choice for Penny. I do wish there was a male narrator for this series to do James's parts though.

Ok... if you’re thinking of reading this book before reading the previous 5 books... DON’T!! YOU NEED TO HAVE READ EVERYTHING ABOUT JAMES AND PENNY BEFORE YOU LET THIS BOOK BREAK YOUR HEART.
I don’t think I’ve ever read something so emotionally draining and gut wrenchingly heartbreaking since reading Jodi Ellen Malpas’s With This Man (which tackles a very similar subject).
I’m a mess... a complete wreck. What are you doing to us Ivy?
I’d read the blurb... but I didn’t want to believe it. I mean seriously, can this beautiful couple ever just get a break?? Geez!! But I had to continue their story because the characters are just so utterly amazing.
As soon as I started reading, my heart plummeted. I had cold chills and I felt somehow scared and alone. I don’t know why, but I couldn’t help it. I had lived this couples life with them... smiled, laughed, cringed, snickered, cried!! Everything... and now their beautiful lives were being torn apart.
After a few chapters I almost stopped reading because I couldn’t bear reading about James’ pain and suffering whilst starting to hate Penny. I knew it wasn’t her fault... but the way she reacts to her situation was more than a little frustrating. In fact, I stopped and read the blurb for the last book and some of the readers reviews before I could will myself to continue. I guess I had to give myself hope that they could survive this.
I’m so glad that I decided to carry on reading... and I would urge anyone feeling similarly to me to carry on reading. There is light in the darkness... but it’s on a dimmer switch that is slowly being turned brighter.
Ivy Smoak... you really know how to get to my heartstrings. Can’t wait to read the next one right now... please say it has the happy ending I need.

I absolutely love Penny and James. I am so in love with these Characters and attached to them. It is heart breaking and gut wrenching seeing these characters go through Penny losing her memory. My heart breaks for Penny but more so for James. All he wants is for the love of his life to look at him the way she always has and for her to remember their love story because honestly what a love story to be apart of. And to be apart of their love story has been breathtaking.You see these characters go through so much in this book but you also see them start to fall in love all over again in a way. I read this book in 1 day. I could not put it down. Sleep who needs sleep when Ivy Smoak has a new book out!? Ivy Smoak is my favorite author. I could read her book all day every day. She takes you into a world where you feel evey emotion coming off the page with rvery page you turn. I have never loved a series so much in my life. I loved reading 50 shades but honestly this beats that series by far. I have never not liked something she has written. I can not wait to read the next Penny and James book. I am sad this story is coming to an end but i am looking forward to seeing what she has planned for her future project's. I highly recommend this series for people who love to fall in love. This series is like coming up for fresh air after feeling like your drowning. 5 stars never anything less! Ivy Smoaks you have out done yourself. You make my love reading. You make me believe in love. Thank you for sharing these characters with us! 😍

I knew that this could not end like I wanted it to in this the a "Whirlwind of Color", Book Number 7 of the Hunted Series. Penny and James Hunter's series. I don't know what is going to happen, but Penny and James have to have a happily ever after, after all that they have been through. James is trying to get Penny to remember. Dr. Snape had been poisoning her and even poisoned James because he took some of her pills and now, everyone is trying to get Penny to remember the life that they use to have. She has amnesia and she has forgotten her daughter Scarlett and her little boy Liam, and she is the one that wanted this little boy so much, and now cannot remember even having him. Doctor Snape, which Scar called Dr. Snake is out there lurking trying to get her. Everyone that is supposed to be looking after her thinks the doctor has skipped town because he can no longer practice medicine in New York or for that matter in United States. But we know because there is another book that it is not over until its over. I really don't know how this story is going to end, but i was upset at both James and Penny even though I knew it was neither of their faults about what happened, but I just loved their love story so much. You got have a little trouble to appreciate all that bad, I guess. This is a good series and definitely was a good book this book number 7 of the Hunted series. I can't wait to read the final book.

I was so excited to read this book, the 7th book in the Hunted series about James and Penney. The last book, retitled The Light to my Darkness left us in a huge cliffhanger and we have been biting our nails and gnashing our teeth waiting for Whirlwind to come out. It was SO worth the wait! But now James has lost the love of his life as he holds a Penny who doesn't know him, or their children or any of their life. She has lost her memory and thinks she is still 19 years old. They are both hurting so bad and I cry with them. These people are like family to us. This book grabs your heartstrings as Penny tries to come to grips with all this new information and James tries to help her remember their love and their life, while trying to get her to fall in love with him all over again. Some of the scenes from Temptation are revisited and your heart is warmed all over again at how these two fell in love. But James is not well and all has not been revealed about what happened to him. There is a cliffhanger at the end and all our questions will hopefully be answered in the last book coming out at the end of January 2019. I so hate the Hunted series to end because it is by far one of my favorites, but Ivy has promised us a new series starting next year. And I know that one will be just as good if not better, and that's a high bar to follow.

One great love. That's what every heart craves. I was lucky enough to find mine when I was 19. But I wouldn't describe myself as lucky now. My husband looks at me like I'm the light of his life. We live in a penthouse apartment that overlook Central Park. My closet is filled with designer clothes and more pairs of shes than I can count. I have everything I could possibly want at my fingertips. And I've accomplished my dream of writing a novel. I wrote my love story. every kiss, every touch, every memory compiled in a manuscript. The pastes make my heart ache, my tears flow freely, and my cheeks hurt from laughter. My whole life is written on these pages. I have the perfect husband. The perfect family. The perfect life. But I don't remember any of it.
If you have been waiting for more of Penny and James's story then your wait if over. You have to read The Light to My Darkness before reading A Whirlwind of Color. This book had me an emotional mess and I can not wait for the next book I can tell you that already. I am so in love with these characters. I so do not want to give anything at all about this story. Just know what once you pick up this book your not going to put it down. And your so going to be a huge Ivy Smoak fan. She is simply amazing and I can not wait for what is next.

I just can’t get enough of Penny and James. This book was no exception. I was totally wrapped up in this storyline. What a nightmare they both had to go through! With Penny’s lost memories and James’s palpable pain and suffering it just makes you hurt for them both... ok maybe more so for James, because Penny is not like herself, but I digress.
Will they be able to find their way back to their normal lives? Will Penny ever reclaim her lost memories? Will she ever feel comfortable in the same room with James, someone she sees as a stranger?
In the end I loved this book. I had a hard time in the first 20% or so with Penny’s thought process regarding her amnesia. This was mostly because she continued to feel like everyone was acting, like legit hired actors, parents and alI. I didn’t read it as a sense of paranoia, but rather that she actually thought that, and I feel she is smarter than that and old enough to understand amnesia for what it is and not keep sticking to the play-acting scenario. That bugged me. However, I brushed it off and let it go and in the end really loved the story as she tries to find herself and her place within this seemingly alternative reality.
I am most anxious and excited to see what happens in the next book! I’m so glad we don’t have to wait long! Gimme! Gimme!

I have really loved this series and find the love story of Penny and James entertaining, compelling and full of drama with plenty of sexy scenes thrown in for good measure.
This latest instalment didn't live up to the previous books for me and, while Penny has some very annoying traits in all the books, this one took it to another level. Following on from events in the previous book we see how Penny responds to her loss of memory, which lead her to think she is 19 years old not 26, and the emotional impact this has on James and their relationship.
Penny's response to her memory loss was immature and frankly stupid. For example, despite encountering a little girl who looks like her and calls her "mummy", someone telling her she has a baby in the ICU, her rounded post-birth tummy, stretchmarks and scars, Penny is still utterly shocked to learn she has children??? As a side note, the depiction of her 2-3 year daughter was way off as she went from talking like an adult and having wisdom beyond her years to not being able to say the word "snake".
Penny treats everyone around her horribly and, for this and many other reasons, I completely went off her character and don't know if I can tolerate another book about her, though I am curious to see how the series ends.
