I have a secret.
Several actually.
Only the guys know who I really am.

I finally know the truth about my family, but now I have even more questions. The only people that can answer them are Luca, Skyler, Noah, Vince, and Gavin. They’ve introduced me to a world I never imagined existed. One that comes at a cost. One I can’t tell anyone else about.

I’m balancing two lives. Sometimes I’m a normal teen, getting ready for the homecoming dance and falling for my gorgeous boyfriend. The rest of the time, I’m sneaking around and answering to The Society.

When everything falls apart, the truth will come out.

Read Between the Lies is a slow-burn reverse harem romance, and the second book in the Arlington Park series.

Ok, this still isn’t a very good series but it’s like eating Oreos until you feel like you are going to puke. I can’t decide if I even want to share that I have read these because it is slightly embarrassing, however, I am continuing on this journey. See my review of the first book for more details.

The book has quiet a few surprises (both in the writing and the story). I think the biggest surprise is that the characters actually a their age. As teenagers in high school, they go to laser tag, forbidden high school parties, play video games and drink soda and junk food. This is awesome and rare.

I liked the storyline and for the most party I liked the main character...but I dislike more than I like. First of all, i’m really sorry for the negativity that is about to be written..

- It is a contemporary reverse harem, but it also has.. fantasy aspects? Like some people have extra gifts (super strength, able to sense a lie) and the like. I actually think adding powers to the plot was a bad idea.. It just does not flow with the rest of the story and character. It feels forced into the storyline.
- Most of the guys do not have strong personalities. There is not enough focus on them, and we don’t learn a lot about their backgrounds. Their personalities blend together.
- The main character is weak physically and lacks intuition. For instance, she goes to a party and had a bad experience with someone... but then she goes to another party (when she had a bad feeling) with that same person and ends up in a worse situation. - Although I understand how putting her into the situations made the plot thicker, most of the scenes just don’t flow right.

I read book 1 and I read book 2 but I wont be reading book 3.

Avalon now knows why she survived and why her "mother" never seemed to care about her. But she has so many other questions. The Society has the answers but to get them she has to follow their rules, do their jobs. The first one almost gets her killed. Her grandparents were killed, her mother ran. She's not sure she can trust The Society or if she should despite her guys telling her they won't let anything happen to her and will always be there for her. She just wants a little bit of normal.

These books are developing a pattern. The first half is slower and full of teenage angst. The second part puts Avalon in danger. The damsel in distress who needs rescuing. I have to say I was annoyed that Avalon was not given more information about her family and I hate the idea of required jobs. Untrained teens having to date for information bothersome on so many levels. And if I thought Emily etc. were bad before, now I think they are terrible. Add in Avalon's absent dad and I don't know how she can get out of bed each day. This one also needed the help of a critique partner of a strong arc/beta team. But it was a quick, entertaining read.

Whelp, I’m glad to see a FMC who actually has a backbone when it comes to people telling her what to do. With two different friend groups trying to push their opinions on Avalon, she has learned the true meaning of friendship and sticking to her own values and opinions.

Avalon has learned many secrets about herself and her past that have left her shell shocked. Luckily, she has the support of her guys but she’s still conflicted about the weird tension between her two friend groups, especially with Carter involved.

One thing I was shook about in this book was The Society basically making this 15 year old girl continue dating this douche bag just to get info on the dudes dad. Granted, their reasoning was valid.... it was just completely wild.

I’m glad that this book has an actually thinking FMC and not some indecisive and perpetually frustrating FMC. She struggles in the beginning to find a balance, but eventually knows what’s important to her and stands up for herself.

Also nice to see the characters actually act like teenagers too. I’ve seen too many RH books where the teenagers act like their in their 20-30s, but this book conveys their mature thoughts and actions well juxtaposed to their teenager actions too. The friendship moments are so sweet and underlaid with romantic tension. Love the slow burn!

Intrigued to see more about The Society and the powers coming along with it. Also about the ramifications of all that has happened with Carter and Avalon.

Good

Avalon is getting used to her new life. She has two groups of friends, an attractive and attentive boyfriend waiting to take her to homecoming, and the possibility of answers about her family.
There is some truth in the saying “too good to be true” though, and it’s not long before she discovers that fact.
Between betrayal and lies, it’s up to Avalon to find her own path…

This is the second book in this series (more of a serial), and it picks up directly where book one left off… it is NOT a standalone. Also, **Warning!** There is a situation that those who have sexual abuse triggers may wish to avoid in this book.

In this book, we discover a little more about Avalon’s mother, and the Sorcerer’s Society… not too much though! I won’t go into detail about the other events, so as not to spoil it, but in true slow burn style, it’s slowly happening!
My one complaint would be that the heroine is fifteen, and the book often reads as though she is older.
Otherwise, it’s an entertaining read, with a mysterious and intriguing plot line that goes on throughout the series.
An enjoyable read for those who enjoy RH and academy plots.

While I do appreciate some aspects of this series so far there are some things I do not. Something I do appreciate is that the FMC is developing her relationships with the guys at a fairly decent seeming rate. They are truly building friendships at this point and that’s nice! However, I still don’t feel as though I could tell you very much about the guys. They seem to blend together- at least to me.

So much is going on!!

This book will keep you on your toes! There’s SO much going on to try and take it all in, I have so many questions and want things to move quicker but also slow down! Poor Avalon seems to be in a whirlwind of emotions and situations that she’s soon not going to know which way is up!

Looking forward to seeing what comes next!

It Keeps Getting Better

Book two in this series sees more action, more depth, and more mystery. I am loving it!!! It is a slow burn series, but for the age of the characters, that is no surprise. I can’t wait to see what pops up around the next corner for Avalon and her guys; and in what ways they will grow and become a closer unit!!! Off to start book three!!!!

Hmmm.
Is it really bad that I felt bad for a would be rapist? I think the author could have done a better job making him actually bad ... Even writing this i feel confused and guilty, but it is what it is. This book was good, but really teenage (which I guess with them being 15 that is what the author was going for). I don't know ... It could have been better.

I am not a fan of series but I will read them for the right story

Sadly book two did not win me over to more than it is an okay read. I feel the author focused so greatly on details of everyday teenagers that she missed the mark on emotion.

So much happened in this second book of the series! Lots to process, we learn a little more about the guys and the mysterious Society, plus there is drama with Avalon's boyfriend Carter. I'm thoroughly enjoying this series, looking forward to starting book 3.

Nicely done!

I'm really enjoying this series! I was sceptical at first but with the dynamic writing, tough subject matter, as well as the lack of grammatical errors, I think I will love what you bring in next!

We continue to learn about life in Arlington Park and the changes in Avalon's existence after learning of its origins. What happened in this book is terrible and has only taught him to understand that he can only count on the boys, no one else has shown his loyalty, not even his father.

awesome

I love that the author takes care, meaning these are teenagers, and there isn’t rampant sexy times. This is very character driven, and their development is part of the plot. I can dig it. I can’t wait for more.

interesting

The characters in the book are a lot younger than what I normally read, it seems to be getting interesting, in the dynamics of the group. Please heed TWS.
Look forward to next book

I like this book as well. I do not have a favorite out of the two I have read so far. I will say that I really like how she FINALLY dropped Carter and that other group. I do NOT care about any of them besides Bridgette maybe. They are all jerks and not good friends.

Read Between the Lies, book two of the Sorcerer's Society series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). I love the author's relationship building and the distinct personalities of each character. The story has many unexpected aspects. I like Avalon more with each chapter.

I’m enjoying this series! It’s not super descriptive or emotive but it moves smoothly along and I like her friendship with the guys a lot. I’m glad we’re moving past the Carter plot line a bit. Can’t wait to see how the romantic aspect with the guys plays out.
