Ari is in trouble. Mourning the loss of her best friend she is trying to uncover who is truly behind Tori’s death, and has attracted the attention of some very powerful enemies. Shifters are still disappearing, and war is brewing in the city.
Since embracing her powers and discovering the presence of more Shadowborn, Ari must learn to rely on others to help her though her grief. With the help of the men in her life, and the support of Moon River pack, she might be able to finally have a place that she calls home. Ari finds herself in way over her head and has to accept the help of the corrupt supernatural law enforcement team, ASP. Will Ari and her new family be able to overcome this unknown evil filling the city, or will everyone become Embraced by Shadows?
This is the final book in the Shadowborn Series. This book is aimed at audiences 18+ and is a Reverse Harem novel.
Erin O'Kane is an independent author from the UK. She used to work within healthcare, but now is able to follow her dream as a full time author. Writing is her escape and a dream she never thought possible until she was given a push from her friends and family.
She has an addiction to coffee, Lucozade and baked goods. When not writing she will be found on adventures with her husband, reading a book or watching bad romance movies.
Ummm, this book was a little slow, so I kinda rushed through it due to it wasn't as exciting as the last two books. The author kinda went left as the storyline went along. She lost me as I guess she was trying to be clever and mysterious with this storyline to try to entice me or other readers with the spin-off book with Tori and the Three Bears, but all she ended up accomplishing was boring the hell out of me and making me not want to read anything else from this storyline or anything else attached to it. I was just left kinda frustrated with it all to tell you the truth.
I give it 2 stars because overall a good story was told right up until the end. Unfortunately, the ending just fell way short of being a good read. Wow, Erin, you fail there at the end girl. I hope somewhere in the future you can do a re-write with this series.
Overall rating: (for this book) 2* - It Was Just Okay
The overall rating for the entire series: 3.5* - I Like It
Ari is mourning the loss of Tori and trying to help others do the same. It is clear that the ASP is involved with the disappearances of supernaturals but not how they are linked with the Shadow Pack. Ari tries to use her connections to the ASP to find out.
I guess I had too high expectations for this installment because they fell flat. I feel like I've been shaken like a snow globe - I'm dizzy, disoriented and don't know what the heck just happened at the end. The build-up was fine but the ending was disappointing. There are so many unresolved threads, yet evidently the series is going to shift focus to different characters. WTH.
I’ve really enjoyed Aris journey with her mates and I can’t wait to read more from Tori 😍 The shadowborn series had just the right amount of action, steam and heartache 🥰🥰
Wow this book had me reeling. So much has happened to Ari and her guys! In Embraced by Shadows we see Ari attempt to deal with her grief over losing Tori. As well as help mend the tensions between the various shifter packs and ASP.
Ari has really grown a lot as a person throughout this series. I absolutely loved seeing her become an Alpha in her own right. While I loved the story, I wasn't completely satisfied by the ending. There were several lose threads waving in the wind. Especially about Seb, I NEED ANSWERS. Some of the major conflicts also felt like they were solved too easily or Ari wasn't even directly involved.
Basically, I loved the story, but I think this one could've been longer and had some more plotwise action.
The first two books were 5/5, but this book felt very rushed, like the author just wanted to complete the series. The book and the series in general had a good build up with many details and action threads. This book just finished all the action threads off too brutally. Still worth reading the series tho.
Hmmm. This concludes the Shadowborn series. It was a great story but I felt like overall it could have been better. Sorrry. It answered every question we had except where Sebs powers were coming from. However, it did make it clear like that might be answered in the next series with Tori and her guys. This series was not fair when it came down to the guys. I still hardly know anything about Alex. Seb and Eric are still a mystery too to me. The big ending wasn’t very exciting. I wanted so much more after reading the series. I wanted something big to happen to Terrance and Hunter.....
Idk overall this series was ehhhhh to me.
*Overall 3/5 *Series overall 3/5 *Heat 2/5 it definitely heated up in this one compared to the others, but still fell short for me *MFMMMM Romance *First person POV, mostly Ari but all the guys had bits and pieces *HEA? Yes.
Sadly this book felt a bit rushed. It felt slow for most of the book and then the end just happened and there were still stories that needed to be tied up but nope. That's it. It seemed that the books got worse as they went on which is gutting 😟

Q: Betrayals? Not really. an unnamed character let it slip that ‘Em’ (person made of light that helped Ari our of Shadow Realm) was Shadowborn though only because his they threatened to harm his family. —————————————————— [[ PERSONAL COMMENTS ]] may contain spoilers
📓it is a bit slow. Some of the ‘conflicts/problems’ are dropped in through conversations but the real ‘action’ scenes with fighting and direct confrontation with antagonists only really start at chapter 18 out of 22
📓 Ari talks about being able to make her own choices, regardless of how it affects the people around her and people letting her make her own choices but the people around her don’t seem to get that choice. They tend to do whatever Ari wants but there hasn’t been an instance where one of the others in the relationship (Eg. Killian or Alex) wanted something and Ari had to compromise to meet them halfway.
In a lot of ways, it feels like Ari is the only real character, working through her own struggles while everyone else bends over backwards to accomodate her. The men in the relationship don’t seem to have many close friends, goals or ambitions outside of what Ari wants (we do see some of it in chap 15 but nothing after that).
📓 drops one-liners about female independence. She needed to explain her thinking without screaming and getting aggressive every-time someone offered to help.
📓 some on-the-nose, cheesy moments and dialogue that occasionally felt unrealistic and jarring
📓 would have liked to see her while doing her job as a nurse. Since Eric is a doctor, it could have been an interesting way to define their dynamic and how to work together. Then contrast it with a more quietly playful personality when not working. Would have also served as something to bond over that she wouldn’t get from her other relationships.
📓 a lot of conversations with the whole ‘what did I do to deserve you’ from the guys and Ari countering it by calling herself ‘damaged’, referencing her past while they adamantly tell her how amazing she is. This could just be me, but after reading so many of these same ‘speeches’ I just couldn’t take it seriously. Maybe if it was written differently, I might have had a different reaction 🤷🏻♀️
📓 Ari’s relationship with Alex and Eric still feels under-developed and most interactions that could be considered romantic always include sex. Missing the emotional aspect.
📓 the mental connect between Ari, Eric and Killian due to their ‘fated’ bond was understandable but the way they were sometimes used was…interesting.
Eg. using them to send intimate visuals or getting pleasure from what they send through the bond, often with other people around. All I could think about was being an outsider seeing that while Ari is being quite…vocal. By that I mean moaning… 😳
📓 The unsolved mystery and uncertainty with Seb felt confusing as this was supposed to be the final book in their series (becasue the spin-off follows different characters) but it didn’t feel entirely like a HEA for them. We do get some HEA-like moments: > Ari starts a new pack with Ari’s mates, Tori, Max, Jake, Ben, Aiden, and Ryan by buying land from Mortlock > Ari is mentioned to be pregnant
[[ CONCLUSION ]] The book went as I expected many ways (relationship progression and dealing with the antagonists) but I was really disappointed that I didn't really get a HEA for Ari particularly with Seb and his inner conflict/power surges being left as a loose thread for the spin-off series.
Die Serie hatte schon mit Band 2 abgenommen. Doch was soll das bitte mit Band 3? Das geht für mich schon gar nicht.
Ari hat Tori verloren. Auf eine recht brutale Art und Weise. Und warum? Keine Ahnung.
Was weiß ASP, was andere nicht wissen? Bitte.
I really liked where this was going but I was surprised at the end of this book to find out it was the last one.
We are left with a lot of unanswered questions about Ari. Why was Hunter so obsessed with Ari in particular? Who were those people meeting at the end? What's going on with Seb? So when I came to the author's note at the end talking about that being 'it' I was surprised. It feels pretty unresolved.
I saw a note that there will be another book in the same world but it's about Tori, Ari's best friend. So I worry that many of my Ari-related questions may not be answered. I guess I will have to read it to find out.
Something else I found a little disappointing in terms of the romance aspect of the series overall: We never got that "I love you" confession with Seb, Eric, or Alex (that I remember anyway. I know she sent Eric "feelings of love" through their bond but I don't remember any verbal exchange). The first "I love you" exchange is something I always look forward to in books like this so I was sad to miss out on it this time.
Then there was the weirdness going on with Seb. We are almost lead to believe he may not stick around and may end up leaving Ari (something I would not have considered had it not been for that small snippet of his POV at the end). His unusual power surges are never explained and he states in his POV that he is hiding that aspect of himself from his family. We also never learn why he was on the target list for ASP.
Also did anyone else notice during the very first time Ari was intimate with Seb (I believe maybe book 2?) and Alex walks in and joins them, that Alex also nibbled on Seb's neck during their interlude? I thought we may see some MM action but other than that little thing it is never addressed again. Just kind of confusing to me.
Anyway, overall this story was good. Not great. Solid 3 stars. Would recommend if you like supernatural suspense/romance that isn't too dark or too angsty with just a hint of spice.
The synopsis of the book states everything that this book should have focused on for the content instead it's just barely grazing any of those things for a final book of a series.
The post cliffhanger scene to showcase Ari's struggle was brief and it doesn't tie into starting the ASP related plot that would co-relate into this grief. The building blocks of this "powerful enemies" face-off remains shallow and not enough to bring out reaction towards this corrupt team that resulted in the second book's end fight. Moreover, the consequential effect from that fight is only told in brief mentions instead of seeing it here.
Since it's the final book, I can safely say this shadowborn powers of Ari felt pointless. There is no further development and more than anything it stays useless in pivotal scenes where it could help the action part. Ari or her guys were like a loop of same thoughts that starts feeling tedious without anything interesting.
Some things were left vague for the spin-off but it comes at the cost of leaving unresolved shit that would make sense for this trilogy like Seb's powers. Dude is a part of this series' main cast and yet doesn't get a resolution. I get Tori's things being set but not Seb's. The final book stays too surface level for the things it's trying to incorporate.
It wasn't the best book in the series, but it wasn't bad ether. I personally didn't like the pace, the hole thing is taking way to long. But I am not exactly a patient person so... I liked the development in the best friend, Tori, and her relationships. But could have been a side series. There wasn't to much progression with the main protagonist, except at the end the final closure scene. I just think that the author is dragging it out so there will be another book.
Libro decepcionante.
I’m going to miss Ari and her men. But I’m looking forward to reading about Tori and her bears. Plus I want to know what Seb is. There’s so much still going on. More questions then answers. Erin I love your books. You keep me wanting more thank you.
This was a good series. Medium Burn. Well balanced between plot/sex/love/and character development. I just wished that it kept with our main girl and wouldn't be transferred off to her BFF Tori for the rest of the plot after book 3.
Finally!! Ari got her HEA!!! Action, redemption, thrill-ride, hot, sexy, and great characters!!! This is a good series! On to the next! #HappyReading ❤
I really enjoyed reading this book so much I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. The whole series is so good that I would definitely recommend reading it.
Erin O’Kane is a super talented author and I love reading her books...this series has been exciting and intriguing from the very beginning. This book was full of twists and turns and it was great to read the characters still developing and relationships becoming solid. However, the draw back of this book is that it felt rushed and some aspects unfinished. It is still very worth reading and finishing this series but hopefully there will be a spin off that will pick up on some of the loose threads! A great book no matter what that had more completely invested from start to finish!
What an epic ending to this amazing series! I devoured it in one breath. The author brings a conclusion to Ari's story masterfully and consistently, and the whole series reads as one book. Amazing. The world still expands and grows and if I read the after note correctly, there will be more of the world to explore in the future, which is great news. The plot is complex and multilayered, and so much happens, and yet the author follows all the subplots and answers all the questions apart from three which she leaves for future books. The characters are still amazing, as are they relationships. Ari grows as a person and slowly heals from her past, but there are still hardships she has to overcome. Her little family also grows and the group dynamic is quite interesting. And this book is hot hot hot. So be ware of potential blushing or sweating is you read this in public. This is the fastest paced book in the series as Ari and her group are racing against time and an unknown enemy and a very well hidden known enemy. And there are many instances where there is no clarity as to who is the friend and who is the foe. Very well done. And I can't say more without giving spoilers. I'll just say that this was an amazing series and I can't wait to see what the author comes up with next. The series makes sense only if read in order. The reading order is: Hunted by Shadows (Shadowborn Series Book One), Lost in Shadow (Shadowborn Series Book Two), Embraced by Shadows (Shadowborn Series Book Three).
This was a fantastic ending for the Shadowborn trilogy! After Tori’s death, everyone is devastated, but Terrance is still out there along with an unknown enemy. War is brewing, Shadowborn’s are appearing, and Ari can’t do it by herself- she gets help from the ASP. Can the evil be defeated? I enjoyed the multiple POVs and that the characters were more open than the previous books. It was nice to see a softer side of Killian and Seb with more power. I love how much each of these characters have grown since book one and have finally became a true family. The different bonds/ connections with each of her men is unique and unlike the others, but they’re all exactly what she needs to move forward and mend from her dark past. This conclusion was fast paced and full of plenty of action and steam. It was hard to tell who was friend or foe and I was hooked on the twists and intrigue. I’ve been anticipating the final battle and it did not disappoint. I can’t wait for Tori’s story to come out and to learn even more about this world and her mates! *I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review
Ding dong the witch is dead, her potential mates are heart broken and the shifters are devestated.
She cant believe all that happened, and all that she's lost, but she's needed to help soothe the apparent madness of the bears.
Her mates keep her upright but it's all such a struggle. Will there ever be an end to the pain?
Oh Wowsers!!! What a fantastic ending to the shadowborn series!!
I've loved every second of my time with Ari and her men, and the conclusion was everything I wanted it to be and so much more too.
Ari became what was needed, both for herself and for her mates. Just as they became her strength, love and hope.
The intricate links formed between the different type of paranormal creatures had me smiling like a loon. I loved the total acceptance of the different races.
Their story is one that brought me sadness, and grief, but also hope and lots of warm fuzzy moments.
A perfect reverse harem series with lots of action both in and out the bed, and an underlying tone of no matter what, you can find a home. A place to belong.
I really enjoyed the series, and this book was also fantastic but I think that it was a bit rushed... I definitely feel like it could have been drawn out for a fourth book, giving us more time and more detail, instead of having everything be tied up so quickly in this one. It does leave room for a spin-off series, which would then make the rushed tie up and remaining loose ends make sense... If there is a spin-off coming, I will definitely read it!
All in all the series was fantastic, I just feel like the ending was rushed in order to tie everything up. I loved seeing the characters grow and the relationships get closer and more developed, and there were a lot of twists and turns along the journey that were unexpected! Definitely worth the read, just be prepared to say, "Wait... that's the end?!" when you finish this book.
I loved this third book in this amazing series. From the start of this book all the way to the end, you will be transported to another world, where you will find yourself interacting with a variety of characters. This is an amazing read. It moves along at a great pace. Slowing down at just the right times and speeding up at the right times. The story takes you away, and from the moment you start it, you cannot put it down. The characters are so real that you feel as though you know them as friends and no matter what you want to be there for them.
This is a must read, you will not be sorry. So you need to read it now.
Holy mother of five star books! I reread book two and just finished book three. I absolutely loved it!!!! This was a brilliant ending to the Shadowborn series. I was sitting on the edge of my seat until the last page. And the heat level was beyond hot!
I think the author did a fantastic job of rounding up the series. We got many questions answered, but new one also came to light. I'm so fuck*ng relieved that there will be more books in this world.
If you haven't read the series yet, I can highly recommend that you do. It will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. You won't be disappointed
