They know your every sin Doug McGregor is not in a good place. Struggling to recover from a previous story, he’s overdrinking, overthinking and overreacting. So when a call comes in and a man from Susie’s past threatens to make explicit pictures of her public unless Doug backs off a story he is working on, Doug explodes. Fearing he had killed the man, Doug gets to work, covering his own tracks and trying to protect Susie from becoming the latest victim of revenge porn. But as he scrambles to uncover the truth, Doug uncovers a conspiracy that reaches far deeper than a drunken one-night stand; a conspiracy that threatens to unleash the devils who are hiding in plain sight and are prepared to lash out at any second.
Neil Broadfoot worked as a journalist for fifteen years at both national and local newspapers, covering some of the biggest stories of the day. A poacher turned gamekeeper, he has since moved into communications: providing media relations advice for a variety of organisations, from Strathclyde Fire & Rescue Service to high profile sporting clubs in Scotland. He’s now working as a communications officer for the Scottish Government.
Neil is married to Fiona and a father to two girls, meaning he’s completely outnumbered in his own home. He lives in Dunfermline, the setting for his first job as a local reporter.
Neil Broadfoot writes a damn fine story, in All the Devils it's a fast paced gritty tale with many twists, lots of teasers and quite a lot of blood and guts. Doug McGregor and DS Suzie Drummond return in the 3rd book of the series. Doug is still struggling after the violent attack he was the victim of in The Storm both physically and mentally, turning away from his friends and into a bottle. Doug is enraged when he's presented with some evidence against Suzie and this starts a race to find a murderer and a battle to stay ahead of some local hard men who are after something in Dougs' possession, if only he knew what it was. Doug uncovers those responsible but at times keeps this information from Suzie and his girlfriend Rebecca, which means there's just enough to tease the reader. Broadfoot brings in many of the characters I've grown to love in the previous books and introduces some new ones and, as you'd expect, there's some you love to hate. The joy of being in hospital just now is that I can sit and read for hours and not feel guilty about it, which is good because like his other books, this is very difficult to put down.
Well once again Neil Broadfoot has managed to just kick the ground from right under my feet with All the Devils! Seriously this book just glued me to my seat in Costa as I could NOT leave until I finished it!
All the Devils is the 3rd in the Doug McGregor series. Doug is a Crime Journalist and he is in a bad way following his clash with a pyschotic killer in "Storm" (second book in the series). He is at the end of his tether when he is confronted by a blackmailer in the dead of the night and let's just say that the blackmailer doesn't fare too well as a result of Doug's actions!
This is a relentless fast paced rollercoaster ride of a read...we have the ongoing love triangle simmering between Doug, DS Suzie Drummond and Police Scotland Communication Officer, Rebecca Summers and Doug finds himself keeping dark secrets from both women in an attempt to protect them both. There is institutional corruption and an abundance of bad guys from Edinburgh's seedy underworld! Doug McGregor is caught right up in the middle of what has got to be one of the darkest stories of his life and it's all about to come spilling out!
Once again Neil has written a belter of a story! If you haven't yet read this series then I'd urge you to pick it up now and start with "Falling Fast" - you are not going to be disappointed!
The more I read of novels which fit into the crime genre, the more I realise that I especially enjoy police procedurals which contain one or more ongoing relationships. Neil Broadfoot does both in spades, with the addition of well-plotted, fast-paced action and a well-evoked . The violence level is high, as is the pain threshold of all participants, but the whole makes for a thoroughly entertaining tale.
Drummond is in trouble, McGregor looses his cool and beats a man.
McGregor has just beaten a man who was barely alive when he left him. He takes the proof of the trouble Suzy is in with him. This starts a series of happenings and murders that means he had to call on friends for help. This almost gets him killed and his friends in hospital. Things are not coming together and the world around McGregor is falling apart.
Got to say that I do enjoy Neil Broadfoot's style of writing. Fast paced and dark. Never a dull moment with Doug McGregor, with DS Susie Drummond caught up in the fast flowing tide of words. A dark conspiracy with murder and high heid types involved. Gripping stuff.
This is the third (and hopefully not last?) in the series and another great read. Love the characters, the story and the setting in Edinburgh. And wow, what a nailbiter of an ending! Highly recommended.
This one starts a couple of months after the previous one left off... no need to have read the first 2 to.wnjoy this one, but it helps. This one is darker than the others, but just as gripping... highly recommend
As third in series I enjoyed this but, if honest, probably the least so of the 3. Even for fiction, it was far fetched in my opinion and a little over complicated at times. Overall I was disappointed. See there is fourth in series coming out this year so will probably give it a go.
