The Chronicles of Cornu #2

To Rescue a Princess

Rate this book
Mike Mulvaney went for a long hike in the Adirondacks and wound up in a different world Cornu. Plants, animals, and humans populated this world over the centuries. The technology was the late 1700’s. The human population had a few differences from the norm - low population growth, longer life, and more women than men. It didn’t escape violent power struggles, and Mike stepped right into the middle of one. The kingdom of Porfia was attempting a decapitation strike against the Royal Family of Nordia, targeting the crown prince and his family.
Mike freed the village of Vinfarm from the bandits taking part in the attempt and headed towards civilization, hoping to find a way home. Instead, he found himself in the middle of the attempt on the Crown Prince and his family. Mike helped defeat the large band of brigands attempting to capture and turn them over to Porfia for degradation and then death. He also helped them avoid attempts by assassins. In the process of this, he became close to the family. The youngest daughter Catrina, a vivacious blonde beauty, she was at the age where she was looking to get betrothed, and Mike suddenly found himself at the top of the list.
He found her very attractive but was worried by her youth and the fact that she was a princess. He worked to help keep the family safe and help the people of Cornu by transferring some of his scientific knowledge before he found his way home.

this was fun - lots of cliches and for once mediocre writing rather than the fairly bad writing in the first novel, but super fun and with an interesting setup, so i am definitely in for volume 3

enjoyed it quite a lot and I even trudged through volume 1 for the sake of this volume and the style was passable to let the action and story take over; definitely recommended if you are in the mood for this type of story

i like the story, but...

First things first. If you are purchasing this book know that the editing is atrocious. The sentences are real choppy. Making it hard to keep the immersion. Numerous spelling errors, i mean really did the publisher bother spell checking their work.

The story. You have an MC that is out for a hunt/hike in the woods and accidently walks through a portal to another world. No problem with that. What i dislike is that the MC was loaded for bear on this walk, and i don't mean in just guns and ammo. He had massive amounts of prescription pain meds, prescription antibiotics, and a massive load of ammo. That just really makes it hard to take in that he MC didn't know what was going to happen. I mean who carries all that for a simple walk in the woods? The bear spray, a tent, a small fist aid kit, tent, poncho those are things you go with. I also had a hard time accepting that when the mc found out her couldn't return home it was like, Wow really i can never see my family again, thats so sad. Well i am in love with you so let's get married. Its just not believable. Will i read the next book in the series, well i might if i am really bored but otherwise no.

I'm reading the Cornu stories in order. Like the first book this book is also very good. I'd have given the first book 5 stars except for the frequent sloppy editing. On a 10 scale the first one would have gotten a 9. The second installment seemed to have fewer errors.... ask instead of as, good lucking instead of good looking than the first, but they were still there. The author could really use a proof reader or two. And there were still time where it seemed he left out a word in a sentence. Finally, he should research the grammatically correct use of quotations. All that probably won't bother most readers all that much.
The author continues to impress with how knowable or how well researched he is is regarding weapons, and science. He also has a very good grasp on culture and has come up is a believable explanation about the conditions on Cornu.
Again, his characters are well developed and believable. The pace is deliberate which makes the setting and character seem more real.
All in all I've downloaded the third book and am looking forward to reading it.

Much better second book

So the title of his book reflects the beginning of the story as opposed to the end like in the first book. All of the backstory of the first book Is Now reaching fruition and makes the second book much more enjoyable. Still don't see major advances in Tech etc. That said the protagonist does his job and protect the royal family. And setting up for many advances for the kingdom in which he now lives. Hopefully the author gets a little more crafty when it is time to do the technological upgrades and experimentation. The political system and drama are well-established and should be fun hopefully it doesn't become the overwhelming force of this series. Action and upgrades are required in my opinion. I do look forward to the next book as I read this almost completely through in a day. The delivery was a bit dry but I think every book has improvements therefore I can't wait for the next one.

The Princess Gets The Warrior/Scholar

Mike is a genius who likes outdoor and other physical activities as well as academics. The result is a PhD from MIT and a stint in the Marines. After his return from combat and discharge, he is hiking in the Adirondacks when he walks through a portal to the world of Cornu. Right into an attempt to capture the royal family. After the rescue, he finds himself very Attracted to the youngest Princess. The attraction is mutual. The attacks continue, as another Kingdom tries to destroy th leadership of Nordia. I like the action, humor and romance. I really like the way the detail in the background setup makes the characters feel real. This is one of my current favorite series. I look forward to another book.

Great Plot & Characters

Interesting plot and characters, really enjoyed Michael. Way too many instances of edits needed. The author offered way to many details and repeated them more than once; hence, a lot of filler that could have been eliminated. Worth reading due to the interesting storyline and characters. I’ll read Dalton’s third book in the hopes that this is only an early writing mistake that is corrected.

more soft porn than good scifi

disappointing.
little scifi and excessive soft porn.
same character development over and over again.
far too stereotypical potral of female and male roles.
lost its entertainment value unless your intrested in new "pleasuring" ideas.

wont bother with book 3.

Great book

This needs another book, i want to know what happens next it this world. I've read books like this before that sets up the story before the story, but this is so much better than thos, Mr Dalton does an amazing job of setting up a story with a good bit of history before we see the main character interact with the world he goes to. I cant wait to see what happens next

Good mixture of fantasy and science fiction

I like the characters and the alternate world. The plot and the fantasy reality are well considered. Having said the positives, the lack of editing makes me crazy. Quotation marks, consistency in spelling and sentence structure need work. Also, more explanations of military jargon would be helpful.

The book is good but needs some proofreading.

I’m quite happy with the story. The author could use a good proofreader. There were some small mistakes. The word your was used when you were was correct. Also sowing was used when sewing was correct. There were other similar mistakes.

Thoroughly enjoyable

This was a engaging than the first book, because there were so many more characters and plots to keep track of. But what a story. And slowly ramping up to book 3. I cannot wait.

Marvelous story!!

Good action, good characters, nice melding of old and new technology. How sweet it is, to be in Mike's shoes. Having a beautiful princess fall for him, doing research, being made a baron, wow.

A book I regret purchasing

I thought this might be similar to "Cast Under An Alien Sun" by Olan Thorensen. It wasn't. Quality of the writing is pretty rough, and this book is more fantasy than science fiction.

Loved it!

I read both books in the series, the first seemed to be a little to much history but it was needed to explain the characters. After realizing that this was a great story! I hope there is another book!

Badly needs proofreading. Story ok.

Fun story. Not sure it was proof read.
A professional editor could help a lot. Needs consistency of grammar and organization.
The storyline is spotty and sometimes seems incomplete.

To rescue a Princess

There is another good book. I thought this was a lot less wordy than the others to help in the development of characters. I look forward to reading the next in series.

Pretty good, be better with a proofreader

Simple world building medieval fantasy. Pleasant easy read. Numerous typos do get irritating and interrupt story flow. Easily enjoyable diversion.
