This book is the memoir of the first Australian woman to Winterover at the Geographical South Pole where she was employed as an astronomer. The book reflects on the excitement and anxieties of the preparations to travel to the pole, the challenges and ordeals she experienced along the way. The book also describes the crisis experienced when separating from her South Pole family at years end. This year was the most extraordinary Julienne has ever had.
I’m not usually into nonfiction, but I really enjoyed this memoir. The story is written so it’s like she’s just telling you a story, and the science isn’t too heavy to where you can’t enjoy the story. A really interesting look at how people find a home amongst like minded people, and how relative isolation changes people. Would totally recommend.
