Delilah O’Reilly and Nicholas Borado fell in love, married, and planned to spend a life together full of dreams, joy, and endless possibilities... until lies and betrayal tore them apart.
Delilah O’Reilly may have grown up in a small town, but there’s nothing small town about her. She’s the media genius of celebrity interviews and has the television show to prove it. Smart, confident, and in control, no one would ever guess that deep inside there’s a lonely girl with a sad past, one that includes a family secret and a man she’s never forgotten. When an on-air disaster explodes her career, she seeks refuge in the one place she swore she’d never return to—Magdalena, New York—her hometown.
Nick Borado was born to a life of wealth and privilege. As heir to a high-end men’s clothing dynasty, he’s always gotten what he wanted...and he wanted Delilah O’Reilly. When she betrays him, he spends years running from that pain, losing himself in reckless behavior and close calls. After a near-fatal miss, he realizes something has to change and heads to the small town she once told him could make a person invisible. Four months later, he’s still in Magdalena working at O’Reilly’s Bar & Grille and trying to figure out his life. Of course, the town thinks he’s just a bartender living paycheck to paycheck...
Six years have passed since Delilah and Nick saw each other, but they’ll meet up again in a most unlikely place—Magdalena, New York, Delilah’s hometown. Hurt and accusations will resurface, but they won’t stop the sparks from flying, or the town from wondering about this couple’s secret past...wondering too if Delilah and Nick might just have a chance for a future together...

Mary Campisi is the author of over 40 emotion-packed novels that center around hope, redemption, and second chances.
Mary should have known she'd become a writer when at age thirteen she began changing the ending to all the books she read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, receptionist in a swanky hair salon, accounts payable clerk, and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, for her to rediscover writing. Enter a mouse-less computer, a floppy disk, and a dream large enough to fill a zip drive. The rest of the story lives on in every book she writes.
When she's not working on her craft or following the lives of five adult children, Mary's digging in the dirt with her flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking her rescue lab, Henry, or, on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with her very own hero/husband on his Ultra Limited aka Harley.
I am an unabashed fan of Mary Campisi. There is nothing like one of her books to give you hope in a world like we live in today. She has created a place in the little town of Magdalena, New York, where forgiveness is given, friendship is steadfast, redemption is possible, and true love is conceivable. Of course, there are struggles but aren’t there always?
A Family Affair: The Homecoming is the story of a young couple, Nick Borado, heir to a life of wealth and privilege, and Delilah O’Reilly, a small town girl, daughter of the local bar keep. A young couple who fell in love and married only to be torn apart by a vindictive, imposing father who thought he knew best for his son.
Six years later they find themselves both in the same place at the same time. Divorced now, she is there because she has nowhere else to turn, brought there by disgrace. He is there, in disguise, trying to be invisible and figure out his life. And they come face to face in her dad’s bar.
As always, Mary has her way with words, creating a story line that involves beloved characters from other Magdalena books. Readers will become immediately involved in Nick and Delilah’s journey. back to each other. Read it! You will soon see why I am such a fan!
I liked the plot, but I couldn't keep any of the husbands & wives straight. This was a free ebook on Amazon, but it definitely needed to be read after the other 6 books.
'A Family Affair: The Homecoming' was impactful. The plot was filled with heartache, an impossible choice, reconnecting, reconciliation, confessions, using the truth to set oneself free, and grabbing a second chance at love. Delilah and Nick, the protagonists, were soul mates and gushed with chemistry. They deserved to have a HEA. However, the only drawback was Delilah's suspension/firing for her misstatement; if true, it should have been a boon to her career. Also, the author's vivid details including imagery and figurative language created a warm tone. Overall, I liked the poignant narrative.
Deep breath, wiping the tears, to give my review. I read a lot of books, mostly thrillers and took a chance on something different. This is the story of Delilah, a big tv star, who blows up her career after making a humongous air on live tv. She heads home to the small town she grew up in. Her secret ex-husband is working in the bar her father owns. The sparks fly between Delilah and Nick . Not saying anymore, you have to read it yourself! The author, Mary Campisi, has written many, many books, but this was my first and I bet it won't be my last!
The story seems to show a destined time gap to convey what changes had to happen before some new developments could be introduced, it was sad and kind of good for the main characters.
The Casual menswear line seemed to be addressed already, and then reintroduced to enforce the son’s determination to meet the market’s needs. The family brand is strong, so it really shouldn’t seem to shun an area that is clearly valuable business-wise.
This is a fairly good read, Delilah and Nick are forced to divorce by Nick's dad. He's wealthy and has a lot of power, he told her he'd disinherit his son if she didn't divorce him, and she couldn't tell him why. They were married 7 weeks and separated 6 years when their paths cross again. This is the story of their journey back.
Always enjoy a book from the Magdalena series. Great characters and setting. Love the way the author manages to weave in characters from previous story lines.Looking forward to next in series
Another heartfelt story filled with emotional highs and lows of family hurts and betrayals, the struggle to reunite and rise above, and the community of friends there to support them. .,
Great original story line that tears at your heart strings and shows true love can conquer all. After being torn apart, Faye brings them back together but can they get past old hurts to get their HEA?
This was a heartfelt contemporary romance. They we're torn apart 6 years ago only to find themselves face to face in het home town. Many tears later yo find the truth and true love. It was a great read!
It was a wonderful love story filled with much sadness along with good and bad things, just like real life, ending with a wonderful ending, filled with tears👍❤️💙💚💕
“A Family Affair: The Homecoming” — Truth in Lies Series Book 17 by Mary Campisi
Delilah and Nick met, fell in love, married and got divorced all within 7 weeks. She had to break his heart to ask for a divorce and crush her passion to be happy and love anyone else in the process. But she believed it was the best thing for Nick.
For six years Nick ran around and did whatever he could to run from his life and from the loss and the words from Delilah. Wondering how he could have been so fooled and ensuring he would never love again. He decided to head to the one place you could disappear and no one could ever find him: Magdalena. A place he find acceptance and some happiness. Until the day Delilah came “home.”
With one slip of a name in an interview, Delilah destroyed her career forever. Having no where else to go she returned “home,” at least it was the place she grew up and where her father lived. But growing up sheltered from all the people and the things in Magdalena pretty much made her feel like, and be, an outsider. And apparently, despite talking weekly or more, her father neglected to let Delilah know of some changes in his life, including a new love in his life and the hiring a new bartender, her (ex-husband) Nick.
True to form they had to hide their past from others, tip toed around one another, and withhold their questions and hostility toward one another until at one point it all comes crashing down. From that day forth many changes occurred in their lives. Some good, some not so good, some expected, some unexpected, but always there was the question about their future until one fateful day. A day that changes their lives forever...or does it??
Mary Campisi has brought to life a wonderful town, Magdalena, and some vibrant, honest, varied and truly wonderful residents who are welcoming of others, and teach them life lessons along the way. Every storyline is unique and different and allows the development of new characters and brings further insight and understanding of the long time characters making every novel different and wonderful reads.
Rating: 4.8 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
**I chose to read and review an advanced copy of this novel. All words, thought, evaluations are my own.
I love this Truth In Lies series and this book, #17, was no exception. The town of Magdalena and it’s people believe in love and second chances. This was great story of Delilah O’Reilly and Nick Borado. They were married for a short time six years ago. But Nick’s father confronted Delilah and she divorced Nick to ‘save him from being disowned’. She loved him, but let him believe she’d married him for what his name could give her. She broke his heart. But now they both end up back in Magdalena and they get a chance at love again and a new beginning. I enjoy immersing myself in this wonderful world. There are trials and tribulations for the people, but it gives you hope there really are second chances for love, forgiveness, friends and family. Now that I’m done with the book, I’m already missing the town and all the people. Looking forward to what's going to happen next in this great town and series.
Another stunning read in this series. Delilah returns to her home town of Magdalena after being disgraced on her TV show. There she finds her ex husband Nick helping her father a bar. He doesn't know that she was blackmailed into divorcing him. Some interesting twists and turns throughout. Good to reconnect with previous characters too. Read an ARC for an honest review.
Another great book by Mary Campisi 😀 This is Delilah and nick’s story- They meet yrs ago, when Delilah moved away from Magdalena, she told nick all about the small town... fast forward 6 yrs, Delilah goes home to Magdalena when work as a tv host goes wrong... guess who she finds there working in her dad’s bar and grill???
