Alicia Rivera: Hearts her new role as alpha of the Soul-M8s, BOCD's first ever boy-girl clique. But when the boys head back to the newly renovated Briarwood Academy, will the remaining Soul-M8s become 4Squares? Lisi Harrison is the author of the #1 New York Times best-selling series "The Clique", "Alphas", "Monster High," Pretenders," and her first adult novel: "The Dirty Book Club" out 10.10.17. Lisi was born in Toronto, Canada, and lived in NYC for 15 years while she worked at MTV. She now lives in Laguna Beach, CA and is a member or her own Dirty Book Club.
for some reason i cant get into this book. maybe it has to do with the fact that this has happened twice in the series already. Alicia wants to be alpha, she cant handdle it, again! blah blah blah. Massie has to much pride to admit she was to much of a bitch in the last book blah blah blah...i just hope the ending is better. i wonder if Lisi is running out of ideas?? nah probably just a rut at least thats what i hope it is...lol...
well the ending was good, Claire's idea was very clever, sometimes i think that if the clique needed a new alpha she should be the one to take over. I also think Massie knows this too thats why she lets Clair get away with a lot. i cant wait to read the next book, these girls are so much fun to read about.
You can feel the series losing steam at this point. Once the boys become regular mainstays rather than cute accessories to the series, it feels like Lisi begins to lose control of the narrative—or just lost interest? The girls are their worst, most boring selves when their crushes are around. The series has definitely lost its bite, but I’m curious to keep reading because this is the last book I read as a tween and I have no idea how the series ends.
real quick! the series was about snotty rich girls and a poor newbie who tries to fit in. The Clique goes through some very dramatic obstacles as friends. And blah blah blah... they're still friends at the end of the story. Whatever.
Quite frankly, i read most of the Clique series while I was in fifth and sixth grade. I could read two books in one night! I was obsessed with the books, and now that i look back on it, i have no clue as to WHY!
At the time it was very entertaing to read about the girls' lavish lifestyles and at the time i thought that Massie's signature insults (ex. Did i invite you to my BBQ? Uhh...No? Then why are you up in my grill? -all of the girls would start to snicker-) were funny. I looked forward to hearing what she said. BUt now as an 8th grader and having a different outlook on things, i think that Massie is obnoxious and stupid.
Also, the constant use of Ehmagawd! started to get on my nerves even when i was obsessed with the books. As the series went on, the girls started to get really interested in the guys at the brother-school. (I'm going off of memory here :D )Anyhoo... the girls would always talk about lip-kissing the boys. Seriously, lip-kissing. that's what they called it. Did you lip-kiss him Claire? Honestly, if you're going to say something as immature as li-kiss to describe kissing a guy, then you have no business getting all up in his personal space. WTH? that always pissed me off. Lip-kiss. I felt ashamed for reading such nonsense! For girls so high and mighty, they had the vocabulary of air-headed fourth graders. (No offense to you 4th graders! You're still cute honey!)I can't wait to lip-kiss him! as opposed to what? Nose-kissing? Cheek-kissing? Ear-kissing? Yeah, i don't think so.
*Big Sigh*
Claire was an interesting character. I sure did get tired of her talking about Gummy Feet. Although, it was kinda sorta cute how Cam would always give her a bag. And then again, does he want her to die from clogged arteries or whatever you die from from consuming too much damn sugar? Moving on, Claire actually grew up which i was more that proud of. She started to stick up for herself, and the first time she did stick up for herself i shouted AMEN!
Massie gives me a headache. Her followers give me a headache. Everyone that looks up to her gives me a headache. She is just too controlling! and she's very unrealistic and hard to relate to. How many thirteen year olds do you know that wear Prada and have a fresh manicure every time you see them? I can't think of any but hey maybe it's because I go to a public school and fall under the upper- middle class part of society. I'm a no bullshit type of person so if i ever was in her clique, i wouldn't have been in it for long.
Something else that got annoying was how in every other book, The Cliques friendship was falling apart. Really who cares? It's not the end of the world. Honestly! The girls spend their time obsessing over the stupidest shit! What's sad is that Lisi Harrison's talent is pretty much wasted and flushed down the toilet in these bitchy, pre-teen novels of hers.
Hmm... What else is there?
What was good about the story was how Lisi described the character's surroundings. I wasn't left confused like i normally am nowadays as i read scenery descriptions from Young Adult books. And thank God Lisi didn't talk about how you could see to so and so's heart by looking into their eyes or how by looking into their eyes you could tell that they really wanted a cheesebuger. I've read some pretty messed up stuff, so for the most part that was refreshing.
Sorry for my bad words- I'm a secret potty mouth!- i just thought that they were necessary to correctly portray how upset these stories make me. ANd sorry if it's kind of all over the place. It's hard to stay on topic when you're ranting about things that upset you. You just get so caught up you know?
The long awaited Boys R Us, the next book to the popular The Clique series, by Lisi Harrison is finally out! Up until now Massie, Alicia, Dylan, Kristen, and Claire have always been together and best of friends. But now we’re at like the climax of the entire Clique series, Massie disperses the Pretty Committee and now all 5 friends have split apart too. Alicia moves on by making her own crew where she is now the alpha, called the Soul-M8s, but soon Alicia will come to realize how hard it really is being an alpha as things begin to lose control. Kristen who was suppose to help Massie get her crush, Dempsey , to like her , but ended up falling for him instead, and finds out that the feeling was mutual! This leads to Massie feeling betrayed and kicking Kristen out. Kristen feels guilty of course and tries to win Massie back, but will it work? Or will Kristen give up trying? Massie feeling more alone than ever, decides to ‘hire’ herself some new friends. But even though her new friends are beautiful, they couldn’t be more dull and clueless. Massie soon comes to realize that friends can’t be bought with money and that she really misses everyone who she can not just replace. But will they come back to her? Or will her pride get in the way? And Dylan is just happy that she has someone who finally likes her back, while Claire is stuck in the middle of all this chaos wishing everything was back to normal. When Alicia offers Claire to join Soul-M8s she doesn’t know what to reply back because Massie has also offered Claire to join her new group of friends too! So who will Claire join? Who will she end up betraying, Alicia or Massie? Or will she choose none of the above? I had a great time reading this book because the story so far in this series has always been with everyone getting along, together, and happy, but now the story has completely turned in a different direction. I could really see how the character’s feelings changed from hating one another, then feeling regretful, and finally really missing one another. It really shows how strong their friendship is. And also like always Lisi Harrison is always capable of portraying the mind of a typical teenager which makes it a lot easier for me to empathize with the characters. Anyone who likes The Clique series should definitely continue by reading this book as well. Or any fan of Lisi Harrison’s books. Because this book is definitely an enjoyable read and that will keep you reading from the beginning all the way to the end. You might like it so much that you could finish all 263 pages within one day, like I did! I would highly recommend you to go and get Boys R Us by Lisi Harrison.
For how drawn out the fight was, the ending and resolution happened really quickly. I'm not mad, though. I love when TPC is together!
This book was fun, and it felt the most real, I think. All friends have fights, and they're especially hard in middle school and high school. Your first best friends are basically your first loves. You share everything, you're always together, always there for each other, and, it's hard to admit when you're in the wrong, and to apologize.
I'm glad that the girls are maturing, and beginning to realize that they can work as a group, but also separately. Only 3 more books to go!
Soooo, after two years of absence, I am back to further my endeavors on here as the Rotten Tomatoes of books. I'm kidding. I promise I'll find something to write positive reviews about on here, but in the meantime I gotta finish up this series. As usual, I'm going to be all over the map. Let's review the end of the previous book. Massie lost her friends because they were tired of being puppets on her strings. Massie, ever the narcissist, was so caught up in her own "woe is me" biased pity-party that she failed to see the reality of the situation, and she jumped in the swimming pool. That made no sense, that last part. But let's move forward. So. By this point, the girls have gone separate ways. Should I feel bad for them? I sure as hell don't feel bad for Massie, for obvious reasons. I'll admit that I did feel a hair sorry for Alicia that her attempt at a coed clique didn't work out, and that Kristen and Layne were blamed for "stealing" Dempsey, according to Massie (such bullshit!) and Claire tried to split herself in two in an effort to remain loyal to both sides. I'll focus first on Massie. One word. UGH. Out of all my reviews on here, this is the first time I'm using the word "narcissist" to describe Massie, as I did above, because I feel like that's a more sophisticated term than "spoiled brat." This time, Massie actually uses her credit card to BUY new friends in the form of fashion models, which to me says "low-key prostitute." As if that weren't enough, she FIRES one of them (I'm not going to say which one) for not getting her lines right. Let me backtrack just a bit: In the trailer before the "models" make their grand debut, Massie tells them that she expects them to "follow her orders" without telling them what she wants from them. How are they supposed to know what Massie wants if she doesn't tell them? And then a few pages later, she chews them out! See as follows: J"Girls! What happened out there?"...Jasmin stood. "In Mia's defense, we never got a script, and we're not trained in improv, so--" "Plug it, Tampax!" Massie barked. I think that was page 137. After she (unfairly, if you asked me) fires one of them, she hires a new one and despairs over the fact that she fired the old one in the first place. And the whole time she blames her new "friends" for messing up instead of looking at the big picture and seeing that SHE'S being unrealistic and unfair. Eventually, the aforementioned models get so tired of being puppets on her strings that they bail on her, and of course Massie thinks that's illegal (not literally, but you know what I mean). And then Massie's like "You can't quit! I'll be alone, waaaaah, woe is me." Excuse me while I facepalm. One last point: Whenever Layne tried to help, Massie declined and blew her off, claiming that Layne tried to take over. Uh, last time I checked, MASSIE was the one taking over. God, what a narcissist Massie is. I don't know how to put GIFs here, but let's pretend that there is one of SpongeBob choking Mr. Krabbs and throwing him bodily across the room. That was what I wanted to do to Massie. Phew. Got that off my chest. Now, Alicia. Her coed clique COULD have worked if not for Massie constantly trying to upstage her at every turn. It worked out well at first, with the coffee shop, but then at the nail salon...it went downhill. I suppose I should feel more pity than I'm expressing, but how can I when she was just as mean as Massie in the first few books? Do I really want to feel sorry for someone who destroys a pumpkin and blames a stranger for ruining a plate of sushi? Make what you will of that. Next stop: Kristen. Please read carefully: Kristen and Layne did not STEAL Dempsey. He chose Kristen over Massie of his own accord. Maybe it's because Kristen did not do anything to purposefully influence his decision (re: act like a fool to gain his attention) the way Massie and Layne did. Again, Massie is just being a narcissist in blaming Kristen. Don't you just love that term? I'm going to keep using it because I freakin' love it. Dylan didn't have much of a storyline. I'm glad she ended up with Derrick, so SOMETHING is going right in the romance world. I'm going to finish up with Claire. Again, I should be pitying her because she can't be in two places at once, but see my bitch-review for the first Clique book as to why my sympathy is limited. I'm aware that this review was mostly ranting about Massie again, and I'm sorry for that. If you agree with me that Massie is a narcissistic bitch, but you want me to shut up about it, I get it. I'm going to leave it here for tonight so I can try to conserve my energy for book twelve. Thanks for tuning in, everyone. [Beep]
This book was okay. It wasn't the best Clique book, the plot was almost identical to "Revenge Of The Wannabes," except Kristen and Dylan hated Massie and were a part of Alicia's clique this time. I felt bad for Claire because she was stuck in the middle. Sometimes I wonder why she is friends with them anyway, she is more down-to-earth and she doesn't just care about designer clothes and money. It is kind of weird how after everything the Clique has put her through, she still stays in their group anyway. But anyways, I can't believe Massie was desperate enough to . Massie is always trying to act calm and confident and not act desperate and needy for friends but this book shows just how badly she wants someone to hang around with her. I kind of feel bad for her to a certain extent, but if she wasn't so snobby and selfish all the time, her real friends wouldn't have left her and she would have more people at her school to choose from, but they pretty much are scared of her, they only "admire" her because they are scared they will have to face her wrath if they don't, which is stupid. Anyway, this book was really predictable, I knew the Clique would in the end, and all of the things they did to try and outshine each other was kind of stupid and pointless. And I didn't like the way Alicia acted in this book, she already knew from the beginning she didn't really have what it takes to be an alpha, but she did it anyway, I think she should have just stuck with being a beta. Actually, now that I think about it, this whole "alpha" and "beta" thing is stupid and pointless. Why can't they just be a normal group of friends and not control each other and back stab each other? They can still be a Clique without all that stuff. I doubt there is anyone in real life who walks around with their friends saying "I'm the alpha so you have to listen to me!" I doubt anyone does stuff like that unless they are trying to copy the Clique. Anyway, I know this review is kind of long and rambles on, but I just wanted to get my point across. Overall it was an okay book, but not the best.
Alicia forms the Soul M8s, a boy-girl clique that includes the ex-PC members and their crushes. Massie in order to stay on top and make them jealous hires actress to play her friends. Claire wishes to remain neutral so hangs with both the Soul M8s and MAC (Massie and Crew). Massie and Alicia try to put together awesome- jealous worthy events, Massie an underwater circus themed fashion show for Ho Ho Homeless and Alicia a red-carpet themed dinner for the Soul M8s. Massie’s party is obviously the better one and the Soul M8s try to get in, but aren’t on the list. They try to sneak in, but then Massie has them kicked out and unintentionally Landon, her crush/escort, too. Massie doesn’t realize this and thinks he just ditched her like everyone else and walks the runway with her dog, Bean, when all of a sudden it collapses and the models/actresses she hired of MAC fall in. Massie feels totally ruined like she can’t come out into the world again, but Claire being her plan to reunite the PC failed tries again to bring them together. Landon comes to see Massie who tells her what really happened, they make-up, and her crush on him returns. He invites her to his mom’s dog boutique for some event and she brings Bean who hangs with his almost identical pug, Bark Obama. They believe the dogs love each other. At the boutique Claire leads Massie right over to wear Alicia, Dylan, and Kristen are. They all apologize and make-up just as Claire had hoped. The PC is together again.
It was beyond funny that Massie hired friends. The descriptions of the characters, clothing, and parties were great in that they were specific images and detailed helping to visualize everything better. I’m glad Massie got a new crush, I felt bad that she thought he ran out on her. I hope he doesn’t. The soul M8s were an interesting group with interesting hang events, but I knew they wouldn’t quite workout the same. I’m ecstatic the PC has been reunited.
Boys R Us, by Lisi Harrison, is a crazy book. The main characters are Massie Block and Alicia Rivera (ex-best friends). Massie has started her own group, "Massie and Crew", and Alicia has done the same with the "SoulM8's". Massie and Alicia are determined to be the best of the best, but when friendship are completely torn apart we'll see who the real Alpha is. When i first saw and heard about these books I thought to myself "wow how dumb is that!". But it wasn't until my best friends started reading them that I thought "man, they might not be that bad after all". So I went to the school library and checked out the book that started it all, The Clique, and I have been hooked ever since. Lisi Harrison is a young writer, so she understands how young people speak and act. She writes in a way that is easy to understand and follow. It is not babyish but it is not "Gone With the Wind". When the characters talk to each other it's like they are actually having a conversation. The words are not forced, it's like they flow effortlessly for the author. When the characters are having a conversation over the phone, IM, or texting Harrison writes in a way that looks like a text, or an an IM. If its a text message it looks exactly like cell phone or if its over the phone she writes the main character in regular font and the person on the other end in italics. I really liked how funny this book was. Not so much a what the characters say, it's how they say it. For example: the way they talk to and act towards boys is hilarious! The girls are so scared and so shy that when they talk to the boys, the girls end up saying... not smart, i guess you could say, things and it's super funny! So, as you can hopefully see I liked this book very much. It was written well, had good sentence structure, and was just overall great! I will continue to read other books by this author, not just in this series but others as well :).

Review: One of my favorites! ♥
Things I Loved: The PC splitting up this time was executed really well.
After Massie's friends decide to do their own thing and leave her, she's left with only two real friends, Claire and Kristen. But once Kristen decides to steal her crush and Claire decides to hang with Alicia, she doesn't know what to do! She decides to do the unthinkable... hire new friends! Alicia is having a difficult time trying to run her new clique. She wanted to make a boy girl clique but it seems like it's going downhill. She had no idea Massie had to go through all this. Dylan feels bad for taking Massie's crush, but Massie basically gave her permission to so hey! If she's happy it's all worth it. Once Kristen steals Massie's crush, and her best friend Layne's, she's forced to join Alicia's clique. Which isn't bad sense she can hang with Dempsey all the time and her friend's with their crush's. Claire is trying to figure out a way to spend time with Massie, Alicia's new clique, and her boyfriend Cam. Its difficult to make all of them happy, she has to find a way to get the pretty committee back! But how? I would rate this book 5 stars because it talks about girls in the 8th grade who have the same problems as me. So it's fun to read it and imagine what it would be like in their shoes.
The book Boys"R"Us by Lisi Harrison is about is about a clique of girls named Massie, Claire, Alicia, Dylan, and Kristen. In the book the girls have separated fro the clique. Alicia decides to start her clique called the Soul-M8s.So Massie forms her own crew called the MAC Girls. Together Alicia, Dylan and Kristen for the Soul M8s.Mean while Claire is torn between choosing who's clique she should join together with. The cliques main internal conflict is if have Alpha Status or not. Their main external conflict is how people judge them. I can connect this book to the self. The reason is because you can relate this to the real problems or situations. I know this because when I get into fights with my friends I know that like to get back them for what they did. So I turn people against them, like in the book. Just like the book the girls turn against each other and form groups to get back the each person. I would give this book 5 star. The reason is because I can always connect this book back to myself. So I can relate to the book in different ways. I would recommend this book to people who like drama, and clique books.
In the book boys r us, Massie Block, the alpha of her clique is abandoned by most of her friends. She decides to hire actresses, fake friends, to make her old ones jealous. This book brings up betrayal, trust, and loneliness. I understand the feeling of being left behind. Then your pride gets in the way, so you never say sorry. I think every girl in highschool has had that feeling before. I liked this book so much because I felt like I could really relate to Massie. Even though Massie is a very controling and demanding character, she loves her friends and she needs them. Claire, one of Massie's friends tries to get the "pretty committee" their clique, back together. Throughout the book she feels like she constantly has to choose between the two groups of friends. I understand this feeling as well. It's like you don't want to disappoint both people, but someone always gets hurt in the end. I've been through it, and I feel like lots of other teenagers have. It's always hard to choose between your friends, because you love them all. And you don't want either group being upset or mad at you for hanging out or being friends with the other.
I have to say this was a very interesting book within that series. They are no longer friends through most almost all the book and while they aren't friends they both want to be on top. While Claire says that she's going to try to be in both groups but each of the girls want her to only choose one. Alicia is doing something that Massie knew would never work. A boy-girl clique. When the boys have to go back to Briarwood her clique may just fall apart. Her clique is known as the Soul-M8s. Massie on the other hand is doing terrible. Kristen stole the one boy she liked and she only had Claire. Now she wants to show her ex-bffs that she's doing way better without them. So she hires actresses to pretend to be her bffs and show the girls that they don't know what they're missing. Few problems there. One is that Layne Abley the "LBR" has to be in the group and go to all the sleepovers. Second problem there were rules that went with the girls that Massie doesn't exactly listen to. So the girls quit from unfair treatment and Massie is left without a clique. Or so we think. In the end the girls make up and its a new beginning with the NPC.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Massie and the Pretty Committee are on the outs: Alicia wanted to take over the cheerleaders, Dylan and Kirsten stole her crushes, and Claire just wants to be Switzerland - as in never choosing sides.
Alicia forms her own group, with herself as the alpha, and makes it all about her girls and their crushes. They call themselves Soul M8s.
With the boys moving back to their old but wickedly improved school, the girls can't help but be miserable without them. Luckily, Alicia has a few events planned. Can her events top Massie's previous ones?
And will Massie take this new group lying down, or does the premiere alpha have something huge up her sleeve that will guarantee her status once and for all?
BOYS R US is the eleventh installment in the deliciously addicting CLIQUE series. I love the covers and the titles of these books. The drama between the former friends adds yet another layer to the girls.
It was "obv" that Alicia was only made to be a beta, and Massie to be an Alpha. I just think it's weird that Massie hired friends rather than picking someone out from OCD! She could have done that easily! Isn't everyone supposed to worship her, or is that just because of the Pretty Committee? And what's up with Massie and Layne getting all mad at Kristen? I mean, I know Massie is SUPPOSED to be mean, but she has enough common sense to know that that was a stupid reason to get mad at her. THEN, the actors pretended to be Massie's friend and to be so unfashionable, which would make her want her old friends back. But, how did Claire KNOW that that was going to happen? I mean, Dylan, Kristen, and Alicia just randomly appologized! Well, I think the book was a little TOO planned out, but it was good.
Boys "R" Us is about Massie's cheerleading group, the Socc-Hers. Massie forms it when her new crush, Dempsey Solomon, takes Derrington's spot as the star goalie, Massie does that to impress him. But, when Alicia says that she's a better dancer, she forms her own group, the Hart-Nets. A big conflict goes on, and the PC is basically falling a the way apart. Then, Alicia forms her own boy-girl clique, the Soul M8s. This makes Claire decide that she's neutral between the battles of the cliques. Can Claire make them reunite, or will she have to choose?
I like this book because it shows that Massie Block is the true alpha. Now, Alicia knows that she obviously can't handle boy-girl cliques, and party pressure. Every clique book has a sweet part somewhere in it, and those are my favorite parts, along with the battle parts where Massie wins.
Massie and the Pc are over, but that doesn't mean that Alicia Rivera cant start her own clique. All the girl from the PC and their boyfriends are now known as the new clique in Girl/Boy OCD. Massie and her GLU are way over and she is starting to find a new Clique. I can make a text to world connection. When you are in 8th grade the cliques start to mix, the popular people mix with the losers and some of the nerds go to skater. Some go from a big friendly clique to only themselves. I gave this book 5 stars Massie and her new clique are hilarious and Claire is getting to realy fit in with the snobby Westchester girls. I would reccomed this book to anyone who read Private Series or the Gossip Girl Series.
The themes in this book was friendship, jealousy, and betrayal. Even though some of them might have been exaggerated in the book, it just makes it so much more clear. Massie lost her friends and she tried to use jealousy and intimidation to get them back. Her plan backfired on her when her ex-best friend Alicia takes over the "clique" of girls. It just proves that in middle school, or high school there is a constant rivalry y between friends, even though it might not show or might not be obvious. Massie's insecurities are blown out of proportion because she feels that without her real friends, she's nothing. Overall this book was pretty good, it had an interesting plot and I think that anyone my age would like it.
The conflict of the story is Claire Lyons, Massie's best friend, is trying to get the Pretty Committee back together for good.
Massie Block, the main character, is always a static character. At first she is upset with Alicia for starting her own boy-girl clique, so she hires actresses to pretend to be her friends to make Soul-M8's (Alicia's clique) jealous. At the end, the Pretty Committee reunites and Massie's feelings toward Alicia and her other friends change.
I believe that there are many themes in this book, but I believe the main one would be jealousy. Lisi Harrison clearly expresses to the audience of readers that jealousy is never a good thing. It only leads to betrayal and causing yourself to do ignorant things.
