Ya'llllll! I'm so obsessed with this manga series. This volume picks up right where we leave off in volume 2 where Shizuki attempts to help a restaurant owner get back on his feet after a scathing review leaves his restaurant in shambles. Once you learn who the restaurant critic is you definitely understand why Shizuki was so willing to help! I never thought that I would enjoy reading so much about wine. While I drink wine, I don't think I ever realized the amount of work that goes into it's creation and the ability that some people have in distinguishing between different types. This manga is interesting in the way that it not only discusses wine, but it also has a dynamic plotline. While readers are still following Shizuku as he attempts to find the wines designated in his father's will, there are "mini" challenges that he and Miyabi must face througout each volume. This one had two really fun challenges that introduced us to some really fun and dynamic characters.
There is this complete balance of character development and plot development that I just can't get over. One of my favorite manga series of all time is Food Wars and even after reading a certain amount of volumes there are moments where you question whether certain chapters are a little redundent. The creators of this manga seem to have a plethora of ideas because after three volumes there is still this amazing level of creativity that I can appreciate. I'm in love with the artwork especially since a good portion of this is depicting landscapes. There are frames in which the reader really gets the feeling of being on a vinyard. This is such an underrated manga series and I'm hoping that more people learn about it and are willing to pick it up. If you're a foodie I would definitely recommend checking this out.
Drops of God is a manga about wine like everything! It was a very informative read for me. I do drink wine but don't bother with how and whys. This manga tells reader about different kind of wines how each differs from taste, aroma, color, and etc. It follows the story of Shizuku Kanzaki, the son of a well known wine critic but doesn't drink wine not until when his father died and was forced to know more about wine in order to compete to his legal brother which is the prince of wine critics. Will he be able to know more in a short span of time or will he fail to get his father's treasures?
A lovely story arc where Kanzaki (anonymously) helps a small family French restaurant redeem themselves in a follow-up review from Tomine, whose first scathing review devastated their reputation. As the two battle wills, Kanzaki must truly put what he's learned into practice.
Okay I'm into this. Still too much info dumping though. Also there's a sense of ridiculous. Like how everywhere this man goes and everyone he meets is related to the wine world. And he winds up somehow solving some wine issue, with a charming mix of ignorance and experience. The mysteries he's trying to solve and challenges he sets for himself keep me hooked. And we've got lots of interesting personalities. Biggest drawback is how much I want to drink wine every time I read a volume.
Nice wrap up to 2nd mini-arc (restaurant) & start of 3rd mini-arc (twin bros). =D
The idea of marriage between food & drink has always been a goal for me. Sensitive taste buds are good for cooking, but not always the easiest skill to have when you eat out. Some things are meant to taste better when paired with a drink and may not taste as good without it. I don't drink alcoholic beverages often because I have don't like the taste of most cheap options. XD
Shizuku and Miyabi work together to try to win a contest wherein they have to find three "cheap" ($10-19, $20-29, and $30-39) French wines to win in a contest against a rival in Taiyo's wine division, who insists they should import and sell only Italian wine.
Miyabi and Shizuku save a restaurant, allowing the authors a chance to teach the reader all about traditional French wine & food pairings! Very much my jam, since I love reading about food as well as wine, and the family restaurant story was sweet.
This manga series so far has been like taking a relaxing stroll through an orchard with a friend. You’ve never visited this place before but your friend has and every so often they stop to point something nice to you.
I can’t stop reading the series as it drags you along. I feel confident that it doesn’t need the 33 volumes that are available and yet each one somehow manages to make the story intriguing enough to go to the next.
It was ok... did learn some interesting things but not sure I'll continue with the series. It is a bit slow going though, as there has been no further mention of the apostles..
