Yo! Wtf at that ending!!!! That was wild!

Okay so I'm not going to lie here. Drops of God is definitely giving Food Wars a run for it's money. I haven't really felt like this about a manga since reading Food Wars for the first time. Due to spoilers there isn't really much that I can reveal about this specific volume in the series. We're still following Shizuku and Miyabi as they attempt to find the 12 apostles and the drops of god. There is a subplot that continued on from vol. 3 related to a work challenge that Shizuku took on. It was really fun watching them find the wine needed for that challenge and then watching the challenge play out. It was really interesting getting the chance to meet new characters and then see some older characters that were in previous volumes. I will say that this is the volume where we truly get to see the beginning of the race to find the 12 apostles outlined in the will of Shizuku's father and it's already crazy. Honestly, if you haven't checked out this series PLEASE READ IT! It's so good, fun, and educational.

2024/11/27 Notes:

Started the hunt for one of the 12 Apostles of Wine. The descriptions for the variety of wines have been cool to see and read. =D

Chpt 59-77 set in 2005, hunt for Apostle #2 - the Mona Lisa; mother: 1999 Palmer
How to beat 1st growths
1978 Haut Brion vs La Tour Haut Brion also from Pessac Leognan, Graves (tobacco)
1990 Mouton vs 5th growth Grand Puy Lacoste WA95
1985 Lafite vs Cru Bourgeois Sociando Mallet
1986 Latour vs 4th growth Talbot (nearing its true peak (9yrs as this was set in 2005) even beats prickly 5yr old 2000 Margaux, Chief Takasugi ordered to try & impress Shinohara)
Check out this great Wine from Château Talbot. I just scanned it with the Vivino app. https://www.vivino.com/wines/1236541?...
1970 Margaux (worst of the flight) vs WOTN a Pegasus soaring thru time (Chpt 63) Cru Bourgeois Chasse Spleen (to chase away melancholy). Chosen by Shinohara to help Chief Takasugi overcome the bad experience tt led to him being overly brand conscious

Chpt 64 wine pairing w/ yakitori: camaraderie // the high af scoring a goal for your high school soccer team. 2003 Domaine de la Janesse Cotes du Rhone

Chpt 66 yet beautiful in faded sepia. 2001 Château Puygueraud sparked memories of their university days romance b/w Akie & Fujieda

Chpt 67 a mysterious smile. Sara uses 2001 Anaud Ente Meursault to test Shizuku & his description of a bathing maiden who gently kisses him was identical to Issei Tomine.
Check out this great Wine from Arnaud Ente. I just scanned it with the Vivino app. https://www.vivino.com/wines/2344703?...
Night cap for Issei Tomine & Maki Saionji: 2002 Domaine Henri Gouges Les Pruliers Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

Chpt 69 A wine of ill will. Chosuka Honma guessed this as the 2nd Apostle but it was a modern Madonna shaking her hips. Not a classical Mona Lisa.
2001 Montevertine Le Pergole Torte IGT
https://www.vivino.com/wines/15997?ut...

Mystery wine left by "Bacchus" to mystery writer Ms Natsuyagi (who claims tt she doesn't drink 2nd wine coz 2nd can never be the 1st just like her a mistress can't become 1st wife)
Check out this great Wine from Château Margaux. I just scanned it with the Vivino app. https://www.vivino.com/wines/92200?ut...
Brocone - Nikaido, editor at Shodansa, & also Natsuyagi's secret lover, thought this wine might be the type of wine tt Leonardo da Vinci might drink.

Chpt 77 cepage trap: Shizuoka chose 2000 Palmer as 2nd Apostle coz its 2nd wine Alter Ego hinted at a feminine Mona Lisa w/ its cepage of 67/30 Merlot/Cab Sauv blend. But because Cab Sauv crop was good in 2000, cepage for 1st wine was 47/53 Merlot/Cab Sauv, therefore ending up as a masculine wine Da Vinci disguised as Mona Lisa.
Issei guessed correctly that 2nd Apostle should be 1999 vintage instead.

Despite having roughly two years between this and volume three, I remembered even the smallest details of this story. I really love this manga. The drawings are beautifully done and work well for the manga. More unique, the topic of the manga: Wine! I am, despite disliking alcohol and never having tasted it, super interested in anything wine related. I like the culture of wine tasting a lot. But not only that, the story of this manga is amazing.

This volume finished the Italy vs France wine tasting and started with the first Apostle from the protagonist father’s will that decides who get’s to inherit the wine collection.

Drops of God is a manga about wine like everything! It was a very informative read for me. I do drink wine but don't bother with how and whys. This manga tells reader about different kind of wines how each differs from taste, aroma, color, and etc. It follows the story of Shizuku Kanzaki, the son of a well known wine critic but doesn't drink wine not until when his father died and was forced to know more about wine in order to compete to his legal brother which is the prince of wine critics. Will he be able to know more in a short span of time or will he fail to get his father's treasures?

The lover of Italian wine Honma gets a chance to shine! It was fun having a lower-stakes competition nested inside the overarching Highest Stakes competition that frames the series, and I loved all the discussion of French vs. Italan wine. I don't remember how much of Homna's backstory gets shared here, but I do remember really enjoying his character and how he and Shizuku and Miyabi all end up respecting one another in the end.

Shizuku and Miyabi continue their mission to fine good cheap French wine to win the contest. I liked the trip to the funny wine store and the over-the-top high stakes wine selection competition Shinzuku got pulled into.

The series' primary plot, to discover 12 wines based on his father's descriptions, starts, and it's fun seeing his friends help.

Ah, yes, the introduction of an amnesia plotline, because apparently even manga that waxes eloquent about fancy wines can't avoid the tropes.

On commence à sortir des vins Parker même s'il est toujours un peu trop présent... C'est vrai que c'est une référence à l'internationale...
