Mumbai. The Opium City. Built with opium money.
There's a secret that is buried deep in its heart, and history.
A secret to kill for. A secret to die for.
An ancient text. A biochemical weapon. Or a hidden treasure.

The Godfather of Mumbai, wracked by his son’s brutal death, has called Senior Inspector, Hawa Singh, to catch the killer.

The Mastermind, an extremist, lured by the secret, has brought out his forces in Mumbai, determined to wipe off anyone and anything that comes in his way.

And when, on the chase of the elusive killer, he discovers a group of scholars, the guardians of the secret, Hawa Singh is in the way.

Drawn into a net of extremists, gangsters, drug dealers, Mumbai Police, Bollywood stars, and corrupt politicians, Hawa Singh will have to delve into the past, into the British Raj, into the underground sewers of Mumbai, and scrounge the many historic buildings, break codes, unlock the secret and protect it before every single guardian is dead.

Only, the Mastermind walks a few steps ahead.

Review:  First, I would like to say, that this review will be incomplete as the blurb and the availability of the book will not be there as the book is yet to be released. The author had released the book for 2 days on Kindle and I uped and purchased it. Since I loved the first book from the author and he writes in my favorite genre, so blindly I purchased it. And I must say, I am not disappointed.

So Starting with the book, I was gripped with the first few chapters itself. The Character "Hawa Singh" from the book Butcher of Banaras is back and with a bang. The story is about a Gruesome Killing that lands him in Mumbai and how he unravels Mumbai's nightlife to finding killer is all the book about.

The positives in the book is you would never be able to guess who the killer is. I loved the way that the author has explained the gruesome murder. And I love watching CID, Crime petrol, NCIS fan, I started imagining how would they really look like, and it's really Yuck. And being a Mumbai person, I loved the way the author has described the city as well. One more aspect of the book, it doesn't end where you think it might end. So again Kuddos to the author to fill light into it and not let us keep guessing.

The negatives in the book, you might find the history of the city a little boring( but its a must for you to understand the story). Hence I can't say it as negative but... its for you to fill in the blanks. I have enjoyed it.

PS: I have only met 2 authors who can explain gruesome murders like this are 1. The author of the book - Mahendra Jakhar and 2. Neil Dsilva.

If you love crime/thriller/murder/mystrey - You should read this book.

Script of a superhit movie

Chakra Warriors is the 3rd book by the author Mahendra Jakhar and 2nd in the Hawa Singh Series..the 1st being The Butcher of Benares published in 2014. This book has 349 pgs, 63chapters plus an epilogue and a prologue. The length of the book does no harm, instead there's so much happening in the book, that you would not get bored even slightly. It's a thrilling tale based on Mumbai..a story of murder, opium trade, mystery with roots on British Raj & a continuous chase of the mastermind. A wonderful read, more like a script of a superhit Bollywood movie.

Too much of literary creativity

Is not it a creative liberty to sum up the wealth of Tata's as result of opium trade? An opium smuggler one among the Great Hidden 9, to preserve his gold!!!!!!! Was this a novel written by a mind with some sociology issues trying to paint all business people with one brush????

A great start. A genuine portrait of Police modus operandi. The realistic underworld. Although the Butcher of Banaras came to its full circle in Chakra Warrior as Kavya came like a doppelganger of Hawa Singh's original love Kabita, but something goe
s missing. It's not the chemistry of course. Both are great be it between the father son Fauja and Hawa or Kavya and Fauja Singh or Kavya and Hawa Singh. But I found something missing. May be I liked Swastika Killer that much that I expected from the author to be more articulate this time. May be he did his best. Or it's my profession as a Criminal Lawyer. I don't know, but I think this crime thriller Chakra Warrior could be better than this. Mumbai, Opium City. But little mention of those Bihari labour class. We don't need a desi version of The Vinci Code. I don't know what to say about this book, but I expected more zing this time. The climax. All of a sudden the gold theory. Suzanne as the hunchback, I mean " expect the unexpected" phrase did not go well in this story as far Suzanne is concerned. The perfect depiction of the Political conspiracy is indeed impressive. But I expected more from Swami Akhand Bharti. In my opinion , author did less justice to Swami Akhand Bharti character. But Mahendra Jakhar must be given standing ovation for writing the Indian History in Indian way. Not the version of the Invaders, specially Western Hypocrite British Raj. Waiting for more such novels with such historical details. Although I still find the lack of " Suspension of disbelief" in this story also, only in the climax part, but the Writer Mahendra Jakhar has come a long way since Butcher Of Banaras. But I still find "Swastika Killer" the best so far. Will the Writer Jakhar cross his bench mark with his next novel? Waiting eagerly for his next work. More power to him.

Good story

Story is good for one reading. However writer is obsessed with Hindu terrorism and has tried too much in that line which distracted him from writing the story. In trying to be San brown, Writer ended up like 10rs book.

Captivating storyline

Chakra Warrior by Magenta Jakhar is a blend of mystery, crime, murder, drugs, gangsters, adventure topped with relationship bonds including father-son relation, friendship etc. The protagonist, Hawa Singh gives a vibe of any Bollywood action-packed hero, who is a complete stud and solves all the mysteries with wit and strength. The story being set up in Mumbai gives a vivid picture of the lifestyle and locations with which natives can connect. The simple writing style and fast-paced mysterious storyline surely entangles the readers throughout.
The book is a complete pack and a must read for all the thriller lovers.

Its 3.5 stars from me.
Book is very well written, in fact it's strength lies in the way author flow with it's words, giving a punch line here and there. And then Hawa Singh character is the icing on the cake. Yes it was not easy to guess who the killer is, but it was a bit caricature. Also history stuff picks up almost after page 200. And the antagonist was also a bit typical (and I wish he was not shown as the right extreme), also he was not that scary or tough. More could have been done with material in hand, easily it could have been a 5 star read. But at the end it was good entertainer.

Thriller

It is a mixture of history and adventure, mystery and mythology. It's about Hawa Singh - the protagonist and his adventures. It feels more like Bollywood meets Dan Brown. It is fast paced and character sketch is good. Finished it in one sitting. Some witty elements were also there.
Recommended to everyone who loves thriller.
