Continue the fun in Episodes 4 - 6 of the romantic comedy serial by best-selling author Leta Blake and newcomer Alice Griffiths!
Episode Four: Will & Patrick Fight Their Feelings
Will and Patrick have embraced adding hot sexy-times to their fake marriage, but as their emotions deepen, they confront whether or not they want to be more than friends-with-benefits. The heat is high (and occasionally kinky) as Will and Patrick struggle to accept their mutual affection.
Episode Five: Will & Patrick Meet the Mob
Patrick has finally accepted that he's in love with Will, but his newfound determination to do something about that runs up against his father-in-law's mobster plans. Will must face the truth about his family before he can fully come to terms with his feelings for Patrick. And Patrick has to decide if this whackadoodle world is something he truly wants to be part of forever.
Episode Six: Will & Patrick's Happy Ending
Sure, Will and Patrick are in love now, but they weren’t when they got married in Vegas. For Patrick, that’s no problem, but Will can’t shake his doubts that a relationship started through coercion can ever become the real deal. Since the Molinaro crime family has reversed their position on divorce, Will and Patrick have a chance to rectify their drunken mistake. But is divorce the right choice for them?

Gah! The sex, the FRUSTRATION, the meddling! Guys, it's the delicious Wake Up Married serial!
This is a second read though for me, first time in audio, and I have to say, John Solo absolutely kills the narration. I have certainly judged him too harshly in the past because... wow. He IS Will and Patrick. I'll hear his voices in my head now when I think of those two guys.
The story was almost excruciating to listen to in audio, though, because I wanted to slap Will sooooo hard this time around. The series is so frustrating but so, so good. And Leta Blake and Alice Griffiths absolutely KILL those sex scenes. OMG, do those ladies get me.
A must listen for fans of the series, or if you are considering getting these books in audio for the first time Will/Patrick experience, don't hesitate!
This was enjoyable for most parts. The spark that was in episode 1-3 was missing here.
I still love Patrick and Will. Though Will got to my last nerve in book 6. The sex was hot. The kink was bordering cringey but that didn't keep me from enjoying.
Patrick and baby Dylan were so adorable together.
The drama was so unnecessary. Ugh! the separation just had to happen. Whyyyy?😒🤨 The explanation was so bogus. 😫
Book 4 ...4 Stars Book 5....4.5 Stars Book 6...3 Stars because Will was a pain in the ass with his insecurities. I hate how his insecurities hurt Patrick.
Overall, I enjoyed these 3 books a lot more than I did the first 3 books. There's more relationship growth, quality couple time, and the sex...OMG..the sex scenes are sooo hot and at times kinky. The best for me was getting to know Patrick more. Finding out about his past broke my heart. I ended up adoring him even more.
Loved this entire series! Will and Patrick are now one of my favorite couples. I love character of Patrick and he and Will were made for each other. I enjoyed the humor and all of the characters in this story (except for Ryan!).
I enjoyed this last 3 episodes more than the first 3. It's probably because I found the storyline unbelievable when I first picked up the series. But once I got over the weirdness of Patrick and Will's situation and the surrounding circumstances, I was able to focus on the relationship development.
I give the 4th and 5th installment a solid 4 stars. I just love Patrick the Prick. ;D It was so hilarious to witness how he came to terms with his feelings towards Will. Will's character development is exemplary. He came a long way from the insecure guy we met in the first episode. Good thing he tossed out that douche Ryan. I loved how he took charge.
Heads-up: If you don't like non-communicating couples, skip this one. However frank Patrick usually is, he just can't confess to Will. Neither Will is able to vomit his feelings all over Patrick, though he's much slower to come to that conclusion, and not many of his friends are particularly helpful. To the reader it's obvious what's happening, and given the amount of affection we see the men give each other, it should be obvious to them too, but alas, that's not how this works in romance novels. :)
We also see a little family drama. Tony the mafia boss and Will's dad shows up. Will also confronts his mother about her slutty behavior, and showing a bad example to her kids, and also abandoning them.
The 6th episode is indeed the happy ending. Too happy if you ask me. I feel it was too smooth. 3 stars for that one.
Update March 2023 Loved it even more the second time and stayed up late to finish it :) ---- 4.5 stars Great series though I think I liked the first half best. This one was more emotional and less humorous, but it was the overabundance of family members, too many of them unlikable, that forced me to take down a star. However Patrick was amazing and he's one of my favorite heroes ever, so these books will always have a place in my heart.
As you might suspect this book, or books, do not stand on their own in any way shape or form. Each book continues where the previous left off, to the point where the chapters count off as well. When we left the boys last, if I remember correctly, they’d consummated their marriage yet again and that’s also where we meet up again here in this serial. Personally I’m not fond of that much sex in the beginning of a book; it puts me off the rest of it. Add in the kinky factor (breath play and bondage) and well… it probably coloured my enjoyment for the rest of it.
Patrick is, to his surprise, settling in at the hospital. Meeting patients and more importantly operating, few things are as important as cutting into brains. Sure he’s still married, but even that is starting to feel right, just as Will is starting to feel right. He’s even picking up a friend or two in this cold town. But Will’s family – the mafia side is causing troubles left and right and he has to decide what and who he wants.
Patrick isn’t the only one who’s starting to feel positive about their marriage. Will too is feeling the rightness of it - and Patrick. He's starting to re-think what he wants from life - starting with his husband. But outside forces aren’t always kind to him; his addiction, family, ex and even sponsor are all trying to sway him, and soon he doesn’t know which way is up or down.
Just like the first books I still have an issue with Patrick. I always have a hard time with people and characters that act as if they were superior to others and treat others like they are beneath them. That’s a big no for me and gets my rankles up big time. Then there is the way he treats Will, like he’s a child. I mean he’s been living with his diabetes for his entire life (more or less) I think he knows how it works by now. At least I would assume so, seeing as he somehow managed to survive before Patrick ever got into the picture.
John Solo is easily the best part of this book. His distinct voices and great pacing made it easy to listen and follow along. I loved how he portrayed Patrick so perfectly. His personality and arrogance really came through with his performance. So while I can’t stand the man, I can appreciate the brilliant way he Solo brought him to life.
I enjoyed listening to the first serial of the lives of Will and Patrick and how they ended up married, but this time around I didn’t enjoy them as much. A lot of the time I felt like their story didn’t go anywhere; it was just rehashing the same thing over and over or adding drama for the sake of drawing the story out even more. So when I reached the end of the book I was happy that they had gotten their happily ever after. Because honestly, after the 25ish hours that I’ve spent with these guys I was very ready to say goodbye and leave them off living their lives.
A copy of this book was generously provided by the authors in exchange for an honest review
Hands up time [this is me grovelling]...John Solo was not a narrator whose work I had previously looked at, BUT no-one else, repeat no-one could've narrated two of my fave MC's...especially Patrick...better than John has done, honestly. These two audio books Wake Up Married Serial, Episodes 1 - 3 and Wake Up Married serial, Episodes 4 - 6: Fight Their Feelings, Meet the Mob, Happy Ending have been absolutely fabulous, and may well end up being my fave audio books of this year [Kirt Graves narrating TJ's Heartsong in September notwithstanding]. So funny, so sexy and the voices?? Sheer perfection, including the female ones. Great choice of narrator Leta, and many thanks once again for the audio book via my Patreon membership.
Will and Patrick’s relationship really goes through it in this book. I have to say it was interesting how their connection not only brings them closer together but how they learned about each other and yet they still didn’t see their love for each other, yet everyone else could see it.
This book was a little more heavy but it was necessary I am sad it’s over I want more from these two.
Catching up on bad reviews and bad rep. This series was recently on a Neurodivergent book promo thing, which, wow. Stop promoting offensive rep.
This review is for the entire series.
I cannot believe after this book/series has already been reviewed and called out for FUCKING ABYSMAL autism rep, people are still reccing it! Holy shit, way to announce to the world that you don't give a fuck.
Other reviewers are more eloquent, I'm just going to throw the obvious out there.
Also, there's a really bizarre take on alcoholism, AA, and how AA sponsors should act, no one mentions it, but it's awful and weird.
Let's start with this:
“You’re—” Will stares at him. “Wait, hold up. You’re autistic?” “No, I’m on the spectrum. There’s a difference.” Patrick counts out five beats of Will’s heart. “You don’t see me screaming and banging my head on tables because the spaghetti noodles aren’t done, do you?”
Nice. Not offensive at all. 🙄😵💫
Here's the rest, I'm not going to hand feed and explain why this shit is wrong:
• “I just mean, you don’t seem to have real feelings at all. You probably don’t even know what love is.”
• He’s never been good with the social skills at the best of times. If he’d been born five or six years later than he was, he’d probably have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. As it is, he’s always been inappropriate and weird and he knows he does life wrong.
• He’s a thirty- five- year- old Aspie brain surgeon with a terror of emotional intimacy.
• “I work long hours. I have a stressful career. I’m on the autism spectrum and I’m crap at social skills.”
• What does happiness even look like to Patrick? He’s admitted to being on the autism scale, and Will has no idea what that means for his ability to have romantic feelings for another person, or for Will specifically. Patrick has made it clear: work, sex, and friendship is enough for him.
• “She doesn’t know you’re on the autism spectrum.” “Oh, no you don’t.” “What?” “You don’t get to file me away like that. That’s one reason I don’t tell people.”
• Patrick shrugs. “Yeah, well, I’m telling you to shut up.”“That’s pretty rude.”“It’s established that I’m rude.” Irritation flares. “You may have some autism thing happening, but you don’t get to be an asshole.”
• Patrick turns in his seat, the bomber jacket big on his wiry frame. “What do you think it means that I’m on the autism spectrum?”“That you’re rude and don’t have a filter? That you feel stuff differently? I don’t know.” Will looks over at him. “Why?”“I am rude and filters are boring. But I feel things. I’m capable of the same feelings you are.” Patrick stares at Will. “I’m not that different from you.” Will’s stomach tenses. “You’re pretty different, Patrick. It’s not an insult. It’s just facts.”
• “Hmmph.” Patrick clicks the glove compartment open again and then shuts it. “I didn’t tell you about being on the autism spectrum so you can use it to discount me. I told you because I trust you.”“You told me because it slipped out,” Will says, running a hand into his hair.
• “It only changes things because it helps me understand you. I can put your behavior in this box labeled ‘autism’ and it’s okay. But sometimes your behavior isn’t okay, even if it’s in the box. Telling me to shut up, for example.”“I’m not a box.”
• “You and me both.” Will’s fingers are cold, but the heat is coming on in the car. “I won’t mention the autism thing again.”“Spectrum. There’s a difference. Like the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Like the difference between dogs and cats.”
• Several hours later, Will’s trapped in his chair by Owen and a stack of briefs to review. Owen’s discussing one of their projects with a lymphoma charity out of Denver when Will interrupts him. “What do you know about people on the autism spectrum?”
• “I’ve met the man,” Owen says, smiling his particular AA sponsor smile, the one that means he’s ‘being there’ for Will now. “Pegging him as on the spectrum isn’t too hard.”“So you don’t think he’s just a jerk or socially awkward?”“No.”“He’s—” Will recalls the word he’s seen on the grant requests he’s fielded for learning disabilities. “Not neurotypical.” Owen nods, the light through the still-closed blinds glancing off his bald head. “And you’re struggling with his atypical neurology?”
• “I need to know more. Like, does he feel the same things I do?”“He’s a human being, but, as you say, he’s not a typical one.”“He says he feels the same things…” Will trails off, thinking about Patrick’s statements about love. “But I’m not sure he knows what neurotypical people feel. How does he know it’s the same?” Owen caps his pen and leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “You’re wondering if he can love you.”“I know he’s capable of love.”
• “I don’t know if he understands the difference between liking someone, enjoying sex with them, and being in love with them. Maybe to him, it’s the same thing.”
I am really glad I read this series and didn't discard it like I thought I was going to in the first book. Patrick was too much of an asshole and Will seemed like a doormat. Yes, Patrick is an ass still but he's got a huge heart and Will had been in a mentally and emotionally abusive relationship but was able to discover his own worth being with Patrick. I loved Patrick and Will's relationship after they started getting their shit together, most especially their friendship!
The thing that irked me the most about this series was Will's mother. She was a sort of terrible mother and a hypocrite. She might have come around in the end but she never really redeemed herself in my opinion.
I wish that Hatley would have had a better ending and Ryan a worse one, but I guess things don't always work out that way.
I highly recommend this series and even though there's one more book to read that I am excited to read, it would be ok with me if it had ended here.
DNF Wow... Considering the captivating chemistry that was book 1-3 This segment just fell short immediately. The first 3 episodes set a pace... But the pace was shattered in book 4 with seriously just too much sex.
I so enjoyed watching them fall for each other in the first 3 books. Two broken men... But 21% into this segment and I'm so disconnected from Will & Patrick
This was a fantastic series full of wit and humour with great characterisation. The author's writing makes it a velvety experience, you can just glide through her words. I read the series in 2 days. I loved Patrick and I appreciated Will's development as I couldn't stand his self-disapproval in the first 3 episodes. I was waiting for him to hit that incline in his self worth and just get on with it. I loved the dialogue, both the sweet and snarky moments made the book incredibly enjoyable. This is my first taste of Leta Blake and she is definitely on my wave length. The psychological study of her characters through their actions and retorts when thrown in silly situations feels authentic and perspicacious. It makes me feel that she's a smart woman that applied her talents into feel-good romance which I'm very grateful for. Minor niggle ahead ...
Niggle over.
This was so addictive and I usually don't read contemporary. Thanks Morgana for the rec. Oh and definitely A++ steamy scenes! Ms Blake and Ms Griffiths writes them so well.
I don't know what it is about these guys, but I adore them. I devoured this book after finishing the audio of volume 1 (which I highly recommend, BTW).
In this installment, there's lots of sexy times, with a bit of kink added here and there, and there's feelings, or should I say FEELINGS? Patrick wants no part of feelings and yet, he's all in for his Puddin'-Pop. And when Will's dad, or should I say the mob boss (?) gets involved, all the more crazies occur. Patrick gives Will the time-out Will wants but then Will has his epiphany.
Families get involved, feelings are finally discussed, and the guys head toward their HEA as the book closes. I will be picking up the last book this week because there's no way these two are going to be forgotten any time soon.
I highly recommend this series, especially in this volume format because it gives the bigger picture and that picture paints my heart with happiness. Wonderful series! Kudos to the authors for the story and most especially for their humor.
This half of the story had a lot more steam but was just as sweet and I truly cared about all of the characters - who are all well rounded and have great arcs. Perfect read to de-stress.
this serial was so hot... I could not put it down. I really enjoyed this second half than the first. Even though it took them like forever before they believed in what they had to offer each other.
While I wanted karma to hit Ryan, Kimberley and Owen hard, the ending was pretty fantastic. Owen needs a talking to for sewing the seeds of doubt. Will and Patrick just work together and I wish that I'd picked this up sooner. Little niggles were overcome by the heat and sweetness.
Totally and ridiculously unrealistic, but at the beginning Patrick entertained me enough with his unusual personality and later I think I got used to the craziness of this story and just went with it.
Patrick was adorable in all his social ineptitude and bluntness and he made me laugh, especially in the parts told in his POV. He even managed to made me laugh at Italian stereotypes and that is no small feat. Will was kind and sweet, but sometimes frustrating and, come on, couldn’t this poor guy have just one person in his life, apart from his grandmother, who doesn’t treat him like a child in need of a lecture and a baby-sitter?
The capital of South Dakota is pronounced PEER, not pee-AIR. I know, I know it looks like it ought to have two syllables and a vaguely French pronunciation, but nope—just one syllable.
Original 2019 Review:
Some parts of this were really great, and some parts made me want to smack these guys' heads together. Excellent audio narration, still.
Made me laugh, made me cry, made me happy, made me sad. Pretty good on the emotional front. Great protagonists although I didn't quite understand Will's alcoholism, why he became so at such a young age when so many family members are/were supposedly looking out for him? Would recommend as a light and (usually) humorous read, tiny bit of angst. 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars
I really, really liked this series. I loved Patrick’s contrariness. His and Will's denial of their true feelings goes on a bit long, but the writing is very strong, and the story telling is first class.
