I don't have time for mysterious strangers. Even the really hot ones.

I met him in a bar the night before I left to move across the country--and I never expected to see him again.

But then he followed me...

It would be creepy if he was just a stalker--but he’s not. He’s a protector, shielding me from a group of nutjobs who believe in dragons.

He saved my life--but now it’s my turn.

And apparently, the nutjobs aren’t wrong. Dragons are real.

And I hold the key to saving them all.

This story is kinda shitty. I... yeah. Character wasn’t aware that he was being bred by the other made me bolt out of it quickly. I know that they are very animalistic in human forms so they have urges but it felt kinda rapey to me.

Between 2.5-3 Stars

This book started out so good, it was fucking funny and fast paced. With Yuri and Matt together I was laughing my ass off. But then Matt leaves on his trip and everything got horribly boring.... I honestly didn’t even want to finish. I am definitely the minority though because others appear to love this book.

“Don’t look,” Yuri muttered to me, which of course made me begin to turn my head to see what it was I shouldn’t look at. He widened his eyes and nudged me with his knee. “I said don’t look. But at your seven o’clock is a tall dark and daddy-looking gentleman that I think may want to eat you alive. I believe that you should let him.” My cheeks warmed. I gave him a playful but scolding shove. “Yuri!” “I do not mean literally,” he assured me, and bit his lip. “I mean just your ass.”

At least after three years living together I had learned to pace myself after the first one, and had convinced Yuri that vodka was not a casual kind of drink. Not at the volume he could put away. “Oh, shit. He is coming. Did you wash your ass today?”

Fucking seriously I thought I was going to die from laughter

Still, do your people feel things like love?” “Do yours?” I asked. He screwed his face up. “Are you kidding me? Humans are idiots for love. We start and end wars for it, we die for it, we… get so fucking tangled up in it that we can’t see straight and make terrible decisions and alienate everyone we know and throw away our futures. Yeah, we’re capable of love. Like, way too much, maybe. Even when it doesn’t make sense.”

Overall book rating: 3.5
Audio Book: N/A

I've been looking for a dragon story for a loooooong time. They are either really bad or totally ridiculous.

This one was a nice little surprise. I enjoyed the better part of it very much. I liked the history and the Templar thing. The cast-outs and the new and old order standing against each other but where was the DETAIL????

Then: The ending. What was that? I'm still not sure.
A whole bunch of happenings that got SMOOCHED into 5 seconds and The End. That's it.

There were NO further details about anything. The other dragons just magically came to live with them, no explanation, no Hey I'm the human omega nice to meet you. No further relationship moments.. a haste "Let's throw that in" birth scene...

So basically, another Dragon story with potential that went wheels of the buss in the end because ... I honestly don't know what the Because is. Why would you sabotage your own great idea that way?

Just my personal opinion.

This book could have been so good but lacked in the end a fully developed story and a clear structure.

There were so many open questions and in my opinion there should have been another book with Reece and Matt. But the second book doesn't feature those two.

I also found the world building not fully developed as we don't really get to see a lot of info. Which still makes me frown ... because first we gut info on the elders but Reece never contacted them or have more info on the society.

So all in all it was an ok read which gets 3 stars as it could have been much better.

I liked this one a surprising amount. I think this is just different enough from other stories that it impressed me. I really thought the pacing of the relationship was really good. There was time for the relationship to develop and that's not always the case with this type of story.
I liked our two main characters. They didn't have the best characterization I've ever read and they definitely fell into some tropes but I really didn't mind that. I feel like with some of these stories, the human character accepts the existence of non-human creatures a little too quickly and I think that happened with Matthew a little bit, considering he was supposed to be the skeptic, but he did still want some proof which I appreciated.
The world building in this was pretty good, though some things still need to be fleshed out more. I felt like I got a sense of the structure of dragon society without too much info dumping. The author did a good job working the lore into the actual plot.
I think I will be continuing on with this series. I hope the later books in this series will continue to impress me and I hope the relationships in those books continue to be just as strong as they were in this one.

4/5.
“It’s incredible,” Matthew said softly at my ear. “It feels… I don’t even know how to describe it. Perfect. Like two puzzle pieces fitted together that can’t be taken apart again.”

This is the first book I've read by Aiden Bates and Jill Haven, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series. A Dragon's Sacred Mate is a story with dragon shifters, omegaverse, and some plot beyond the relationship - secret societies, assassinations, and murky pasts that we can't make black and white decisions about. All of which was a fun ride.

Bates and Haven's writing was well done, pulling me in after a tad of a slow start. For one, they are quite funny! Lot of dry and sarcastic humor that I found amusing. I liked how all the characters, both main and side characters, seem fleshed out and having both flaws and good parts to them. I believe the worldbuilding was brought in well enough that I understood what was happening without a bunch of info-dumping, and even the aspect where we had twists or more details revealed later, it all made sense to me. I was surprisingly invested in the plot just as much as I was into the romance.

Between Reece and Matt, we have some interesting dynamics. Matt knows he has some bad patterns in relationships but surprisingly takes the revelations well of who and what Reece is, and who he is. We have a secret omega who doesn't know he is an omega, and the fact he doesn't know he could get pregnant and does become so, anyway. Reece is trying to keep away from Matt knowing it is against tradition, but they collide anyway as he protects him and it becomes a whirlwind. There is also mating, claiming bites, and all of it was just right. I loved also how animalistic Reece could be (and in tune with his dragonself), and the sex was hot with that all-night knotting. Not to mention I could feel the emotions tied into the sex scenes, which you don't even have that often.

My criticism mainly comes down to the fact that it felt the ending was a bit rushed and a tad anticlimatic how it all ended. Not that it was bad, just that I wanted it so that there was a bit more time dedicated tot he resolution of all that action and where they went once it was all finished. I know we will get to see them throughout the series, but even the epilogue I just wanted a bit more cuteness and togetherness.

Definitely recommend!

2 and 1/2 stars rounded up. I liked the first part of this book, but I just didn’t enjoy it after Reece left. I barely was able to finish it. I own the entire series on audiobook, but doubt if I’ll listen to any more.

I guess that'll teach me to not read reviews. I didn't realize it was an mpreg (the blurb didn't mention it). The book was well written, though, so when I caught wind of the "omega" notes, I was still willing to read it. But then, well... I have a major issue with the whole (spoilers) Matt getting pregnant part...
Why did't they wear protection? There could have been STIs!! That would have solved my biggest issue, which is that Matt didn't know he could get pregnant. If he had known it was within the realm of possibility he would have probably insisted on protection or not having sex. I don't care if they were swept away on "passion" or whatever other bull-hockey.
Let's say he was a woman and the man she was going to have sex with said he was wearing a condom but didn't... It's called Stealthing and it's a form of sexual assault. No one should be able to impose upon you a baby without your express consent. And consent for that possibility wasn't there. It's just, "Surprise! I put a baby in you!" And then it meanders through Matt making the horrifying (though it reads as befuddling) realization that, yup, he's pregnant. Just. No.
And they don't address it. Or, they haven't yet. I got to about 55% and it just kept bothering me. So much so that I didn't think I could get over it enough to get back into what might have been an ok story. So far their response has been trying to be gooey eyed and the whole "how I feel about you makes up for it" subtext.

Oh my god oh my god oh my GOD! Hey hey hey hey this was fantastic and far exceeded all of my low expectations so please I beg of all of you reading this to READ THIS BOOK!

I was so surprised I actually gave this a try—like, any book with the word “Omega” in its title is an automatic NO THANKS in my rule book because, standards. But I for some reason took a chance and I really do believe it was because they’re was barely any reviews and I was like “eeeeh why not”. Didn’t realize the opinions (reviews) of others realllly dictated my potential reads🤷🏻‍♀️

Also I’ve never experienced a dragon themed book that didn’t totally FLOP—but this! girl, THIS!! is amazing. Oh and mpreg. I’m like iffy about the theme just because it’s NEVER executed—in my opinion—correctly. But the authors made it work and it flowed very nicely. 👍🏻👌🏻

And the writing was so niccce. The humor was great and I really lOVED the individuality in the 2 mc’s’. Like I could differentiate them just by a sentence bc one still talks like the 1900’s is still alive and thriving and the other talks in current lingo. But like their humor? And Matthew’s amazing stubborn independence? And Reece’s decision to turn away from his species law and tradition to commit what is so wrong but feels soooo right? And their very different stances on what love should mean? And how it should be conveyed? Was just amazing. *very dreamy sigh*

Hey you! You! You! You! Go do yourself a nice favor and read this. I promise you’ll enjoy it!

(Maybe? everyone has their different wants and ideals in their reads. All I’m saying is go take a chance on what I believe is a very amazing book)

Oh and the smuuuut wow very nice—this one really turns you on.

Edit from the same day: (bc I really can’t stop thinking about this book)

Also I’m hoping! that the sequel you know, IS a sequel and not just like a separate love story in the same world because as much as I loved Matthew and Reece together, their story just felt incomplete. I would really like to see them develop a deeper bond—like friends. Which is kinda like, “??? They’re mates. They’re past that stage. How deeper could their bond go?” Well yeah yeah but their relationship also felt very forced bc—THERES A KID ON THE WAY! They’re really wasn’t any time to sit down and just tALK about themselves and they’re passions and what makes them THEM. Their whole relationship started and ended with the baby. Where is the chemistry? (physical chemistry aside—there was plenty of THAT)

ALSO, I want to know more about the dragon history that’s present but not fully revealed. It all was very intriguing and I’m hoping we meet an elder or ancient in the next book. VERY EXCITED and I really can’t wait 😆

**1.5**

While I had a lot of problems with this book (see below) and can’t recommend it, I didn’t actively dislike it. In the end, it was a fast and forgettable read.

My gripes:
The plot, characters, dialogue, and setting have very little development. The writing itself lacks depth or refinement. Ultimately, the reader has zero insight into who the characters are or what motivates them. Their emotional range is so flat (even in the action scenes) that they could be robots.

Aiden Bates is a new to me author (so I’m trying to reserve judgment), but with 250+ books on his Goodreads profile, I can’t help but speculate that his motivation as a writer is quantity over quality.

If not for the reviews of later books in the series (and the fact that I already purchased them as part of a bundle), I wouldn’t read any more.

3.5 Stars. A solid dragon mpreg. It was amusing and featured my favorite kind of shifter sex- hot and knotty! The world Aiden Bates created is an interesting one and I look forward to reading about more sacred omegas and their guardian dragons in the future.

DNF 47% This book had such potential, but the writing style suffered a little. It was interesting how Matt spoke normally and then Reese spoke in seen language. However, the reading between dialogues was confusing and long-winded. The characters were stereotypical and became boring easily. Maybe this book would have done better if the world building was better explained.

This was book 1 in the "Guardian Dragons" series. Matthew has been rejected from every dig that he has applied for he is a graduate student working on his PHD when he gets a call from his old professor to go to Texas to help him with the dig he is on, only he isn't sure Professor Taylor is thought of as crazy. Resse is a dragon shifter who meets a friend in a bar only to discover a sacred omega Matthew when he introduces himself, he gets shot down, so he follows him. This was a pretty good read. I also listened to this book on audio, and it was my first time listening to the narrator. When Matt is attacked Resse comes to his rescue. I way Matt speaks, was funny and it took a while to get used to. The dragons are being hunted by the templars the people that attacked Matt they are the same people who sponsored the dig. The sex scenes in this book were hot the knotting was something else. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I have read Aiden's books before, but Jill was new to me. I also liked the narrator. I am looking forward to reading or listening to the next book in this series.

This started out promising, but couldn't wow me in the end.
There seemed to be a lot of thought put into world building, history and culture of dragons at first, but in the end those were always just hints that were never elaborated. Reece promises Matthew answers at a more convenient time again and again, but it never happens and I'm feeling slighted.
I'm giving bonus points for humor though, that was my favorite thing about this book: some of the dialogue and thought process really cracked me up.
What sadly fell flat was the relationship part. There is heated copulation happening and some primal possessive instincts, but I couldn't glean a trace of love other than the word itself. Romance is dead in this one, I'm telling you.

My initial impression of Matthew and Reece's romance wasn't amazing. Though their mating was incredibly steamy and I loved the knotting scenes, I wasn't totally comfortable with how the two of them ended up together. It felt a little bit like Matt was kept in the dark about what was going on and that he didn't fully consent to being with Reece. That being said, the overall storyline was very nicely crafted. I got all the introduction I could have hoped for about dragons and templars and beyond, and the way this story ended set the stage for some pretty exciting future conflicts.

**I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this series. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

Dragon shifters

This is the story of Reese, who is a dragon Shifter and Matthew, who is a rare sacred omega.
I like this book is the first in the series. There was a little bit of world building, but still a lot left to know about the world. The bad guys are the ancient order of Knights, Templar, some explanation about why they are driven to kill all the dragons, but a lot of unanswered questions in the world building.
I loved Reese and Matthew, there was some good dialogue and some funny moments. The side characters of Marcy and Yuri were humorous.
I will definitely read the second book but I hope there’s a little bit more detail in the world building.
ETA: Mpreg, knotting, fire, breathing dragons.

Matt is having a string of bad luck. Finally landing a job isn't the change in direction he's hoping it would be either. Things just getting worse and the hot guy he met at the bar back home just added an even bigger complication. Reece is trying to help but his lust keeps getting in the way. I liked that once he embraces Matt as his mate he does so wholeheartedly. Matt's BFF is a hoot and Mercy, ya gotta love Mercy. I liked the hopeful note that ended the story.

Audiobook: While the narrator is very clear I would've liked a lot more inflection in his voice.

I did manage to finish this book, which is more than I can say for some. But I certainly won’t be continuing the series. If you like A/B/O dynamics where the entire relationship is dubcon, this could work for you. If you like a real romance where the character have chemistry, try something else. One MC has sex knowing full well he was basically tricking the other into pregnancy and mating, without the other’s consent or knowledge, and he never even apologizes. The book tries to still frame this as a romance, but it make me feel gross.

Awesome start to the series. Loved the unique world and how Dragons and Humans interact. Matt and Reese coming together to solve some mysteries but also save Dragons. Drama, hot chemistry and some evil bad guys had me wanting to read more and more. Some great side characters who add to the plot too. With Matt and Reese coming together nothing is going to be easy! *I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one elses*

I was laughing my head off in the beginning. Yuri was interesting guy and he made me laugh.

Reece’s age showed from the way he talked. I felt the spark on Matt’s end but not so much on Reece’s. I struggled to connect to Reese - his beasts instinct overpowered his human ones.

Overall, this was a good read but it’s a shame Yuri didn’t play a bigger role, he was entertaining.

A different slant on dragon shifters, especially when it’s revealed where dragons originally came from. There is a secret organization of Templars hunting dragons. And dragon shifter, Reece, will do anything to protect Matt, who unknowingly is a sacred omega, thought to be extinct. For me this was a strong fantasy story with all the “magic” involved. And I absolutely loved Matt’s best friend Yuri. Would have loved it if he was more involved with the story. Overall a fun fantasy read.

mc1 gets pregnant by mc2 without consenting to the possibility of pregnancy... yeah, you talk about this BEFOREHAND. mc2 apologizes after... or ...well... during the act after the shifter knot locked them together and mc1 is freaking out about what's happening cause he did not know mc2 wasn't human either. mc2 tells mc1 that he is a shifter while mc1 cannot get out of the situation and is completely at mc2s mercy. The poor handling of this just gave me rapey vibes.

Wonderful

This book is wonderful. It’s a little different from what I normally would read for a dragon shifter, omegaverse story. It still caught my attention and I really didn’t want to put it down. There’s a few minor wordings that are incorrect but overall the storyline is great. The characters are amazing and the action will keep you on edge. It gets a 5 star ⭐️ rating from me. A story well told. 💜
