Fortune Academy #2

Fortune Academy: Year Two

Rate this book

I found my five Virtues… but they didn’t want to be found.

Talk about reluctant. My five Virtues all need to be taught a lesson, even Kaito, my mentor who thinks he knows everything—FYI, he doesn’t.

Hendrik, a dark mage who thinks he’s still pulling the strings.

Logan, a wolf shifter who hasn’t caught on that I’m really his alpha.

Dante, a brutal hunter who doesn’t realize he’s the one being hunted.

Orion, a playboy demigod who hates that all he wants now is me—and no one else. He’ll be the hardest of all to break.

The tables have turned and there’s a monster loose in Fortune Academy (hell yeah, that’s me, by the way). A year has passed on the outside, but it’s only been a few short weeks for supernaturals who are ramping up for Fortune Academy’s big exam. This is a test of our fortitude and our powers unlike any we’ve had before. The Third Echo of Calamity is on its way to Earth and I need to be ready for it, which means I am going to need my Virtues on my side.

I feel them in my soul and have never been more certain of anything in my life. I’ve called my Virtues to me, whether they are ready or not.

They are mine.

Fortune Academy: Year Two is the second book in an upper YA/NA paranormal academy series. The heat kicks up in this Bully Reverse Harem Romance where there are five guys and no choosing required!

I basically spent the entire time reading this, angry.

The book is basically a portrayal of how her Virtues manipulate her for their own agendas and don't care about her at all.
This wasn't a bully romance (although the romantic interests were full-on bullies) because there was first of all no reason for them to bully her like that and there was no redemption whatsoever.
I really didn't enjoy the love interests hurting the MC and always thinking it was no big deal because she would forgive them.
Huh.
Or even thinking that it didn't matter if she forgave them because for them there was nothing to forgive right?
Huh.

I mean just look at how Hendrick treated her... he treated her as if she was pure garbage. I mean his nickname for her is "pet", it's not cute, it's disgusting. And in the end, it turns out he betrayed her in the worst way. How f-ed is that?
Orion runs away to try and break the bond the second he can and never apologizes. And somehow she still accepts him? F no.
Kaito I thought was the reasonable one, the one who would stand by her and guide her, helping her through it. But turns out he's a manipulative a$$hole.
Dante , is gone, and when he's back he still thinks it's okay to hide things from her, because why would she want answers about who she is am I right?
Logan is the only one whom I can't really fault because she's the one hurting him, not the other way around. And we barely see him all throughout the book anyway.

So basically the whole book is about her Virtues hurting her because they're a$$holes and don't truly care for her, and her never developing a backbone to push them off.
I mean, I don't care how strong the Virtue bond has to be, you don't let people walk all over you constantly and then still reach out to them.
It's not attractive.

So I now hate all the characters. Great huh?

Not feeling this book at all. Lily was portrayed poorly and the other characters just all seemed to enjoy hurting her and watching her struggle.

Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.

Lily's virtues need to be taught a lesson but they have been teaching her a thing or two.

I was amazed by the first book and I don't know how but I love the second book even more. Lily is such a strong and confident woman and that confidence continues to shine in this book. She doesn't take any crap from her mates and when she wants answers she goes out and gets them.

Lily isn't perfect, she's actually two-thirds darkness but she doesn't let that define her, she's still a caring person but has the attitude and snark of a person who can do what she needs to to get stuff done.

As for Lily's mates, gawd, why did they all have to be hot buttholes? They have all kinds of flaws and piss me off just as much as they do Lily but they have their redeeming qualities and I am a goner. I just hope that they pull their heads out of their butts so that they can save all the realms.

The story was highly entertaining with the dynamic between Lily and her mates, the steamy scenes, and the explanation of the past calamities. There were a few big reveals, one I saw coming, but the others really blew my mind.

Fortune Academy Year 2 was everything! I love this series, Vanessa Moyen did an incredible job as the narrator, and I can't wait for Lily to get her mates in line and to see what happens next.

The first book had me hooked almost right from the get-go. This one was still enjoyable for the most part, but there was one thing in particular that bugged me. A couple of her Virtues (mates, essentially) had treated her poorly or embarrassed her. She swore she'd get revenge or make them pay somehow, but she seemed to give in so easily to them instead.

** SOME SPOILERS AHEAD **
In her defense, Hendrick really had her in a bind with the knowledge he had on her, so she couldn't do much to him, but the fact she still got with him was a bit annoying (I guess we could say she wasn't in her right mind since she was interrupted mid-feeding and needed to finish?). It's the same with Orion. He's smug, and I never saw any redeeming qualities in him. Yet rather on check on the person she probably should have in that moment, she gets together with Orion.

I understand she feels the pull of their bond. She's part succubus, and in the end, the fate of the world depends on her getting with all of her Virtues. However, I feel she really should make them work harder for it. The blurb for this second book made me think there would be some groveling, but there wasn't. Too bad!

All in all, the story is still interesting enough for me to continue. I hope the third is a bit better than this one!

2.5 Stars. Irritating as hell!!!!!

This book gave me f*cking whiplash. One second Lillly was like badass and all about teaching her virtues a lesson and the next second she was jumping their bones .... all because they were hot, like girl have some dignity, those morons are using you either for their own selfish agendas or to get something out of it and you like a bitch in heat go about humping on them!!!!!

Hendrix was the worst one for me, liked Katio and Dante in first but wasn't a big fan of them in the second, Orion was practically useless and pathetic according to me with only thinking about sex and flirting like the douche he was. Logan was the only one whom I tolerated and kinda liked.

The fmc really needs to start thinking with her brain and not her vagina, I tried reasoning that partly because of her succubus nature perhaps it was difficult but hell even Jess had more dignity and intellect than Lilly. Olivia and the heaven meet up were the only good part of this book.

Female lead was just starting to annoy me with how she isnt trying to get better.

Reverse harem, school life, mate bonds, prophecy, bully, underdog, strong powers, teacher in H, made to look weak, forgotten memories, unknown parents.

Continue with the Audible series of while 10 books, this was once again very short and somewhat spicy but we could manage to learn some background of the FMC and learn more about signs of Calamity.

Can’t wait to see where it will go in the next book

I love and hate her

Lily is definitely a conundrum she wants so badly to be good at times and other times gives in to her darkness too easily. She’s fighting her own nature rather than embracing it and learning control.

Who doesn’t love hot people

The story was great and caught my attention in literal seconds, I just wish she didn’t have to keep describing everyone the same way as super hot with big muscles and everyone has a big... you know. Other than that everyone else in the book Was great and I thought the story progressed really well. I highly recommend everyone to read it.

Phenomenal

I honestly ate this book up! Inhaled it!

We still don't quite know what Lily is, but we have found her Virtues and we have started to work on who is threatening the world.

This book was explosive when it came to her relationships, and although there, they aren't yet solid.

I am already downloading book 3 and I am giddy with excitement to see where the next installment takes us!

the relationship dynamics are gross

I was intrigued by the first enough that I was looking forward to the second. Bully RHs can be hit or miss for me, but it wasnt really a bully. The relationship dynamics were just gross. I cannot stand the fact that Lil was on a such uneven playing field when it came to information. It was used in a way to create a power to play. And she was treated with such condescension, which if she wasnt such a sap, I could get over. She just rolled over and was like oh...hes so pretty...cripes she made me sick. The only one I didnt hate was the wolf and that's because there was so little of his presence I couldn't dislike him.

There is nothing wrong with the writing. Story flows well and the world building is well done. The only reason the stars sit where they do is because I personally dislike the characters. It could very well be something you enjoy, I would say if you are on the fence, go for it, you may love it. I would hate to discourage someone from giving the book a shot. 3 stars for how much I disliked the characters with a bump to 4 for decent writing ability

Disappointed

When I read book 1 I wasn't overly impressed. But, I figured that it was just the beginning of a series and I needed to give it time. This book is actually only about a 2.5 star book. I don't understand half of what is happening. The guys she's chosen as her virtues all lie to her and treat her like crap. She says she's going to get them back, but then her succubus side comes out and she's having sex with the ones that treat her the worst. Logan and Dante haven't been perfect, but they also haven't been as bad as Hendrick or Orion. Yet, Lily has had sex with Hendrick and Orion. I'm sorry, but succubus side or not, having sex with either of those two is just disgusting. I see Lily as stupid, weak, and flat out annoying. I want to like her, but she's giving me no reasons to like her.

I also feel like the plot is all over the place. We're dealing with calamities, angels, gods, supernaturals, demons, heaven, hell, dimensions.... The list goes on. In this quest for Lily to figure out what she is, we the readers are left to figure out what the hell is going on. And that ending? What the hell was that? I still don't get the purpose of that battle scene. Why did Lily decide to do what she did? How did she figure out to do that when, throughout the whole book, she's been completely incompetent when it comes to her powers.

Maybe as the series continues we will see Lily not caving to her libido with guys who treat her like crap. Virtues or not, Lily shouldn't be sleeping with any of them because none of them love or respect her. Maybe Lily will stop being a weak, whiney baby. Maybe we'll understand what the hell is going on because I'm seriously confused by all the things happening that seem to lead absolutely nowhere.

I will give this series one more book to capture my attention again. If nothing changes then I will have to quit reading. I don't like Lily. I don't like her guys. I don't understand what the point of her being at the Academy is. None of this is making sense. I don't mind mystery, but I don't like chaos in a plot, and this plot is chaos.

I definitely have mixed feelings about book 2. There were times I didnt necessarily like the characters...and how they are portrayed. Lily seemed a little whiny and bitchy throughout most of it. She seemed to get smart though towards the end. She selected these Virtues but everyone seems to be keeping things from her "for her protection" which honestly is hurting her more because she hasnt a clue. Not to mention her Virtues are all assholes and have their own agenda and using her. I think they all betrayed her in some way and thats just not cool. I think at this point my least favorite is Hendrick...he treats her like garbage. Such disrespect. One thing I can say about him is that he's pretty much been honest with her...til the end. Lots of secrecy going around...she honestly can't trust anyone not completely. Thats kinda sad. There's a 3rd book coming out but not for awhile. So, unfortunately, there's a bit of a wait to see what happens when she gets to hell. I just hope her character improves and she puts her big girl panties on and relies on herself instead of others because obviously she cant trust anyone but herself at this point.

“It was as if I’d been nothing but an empty shell, and now I was learning how to breathe again.” - Lily Fallen

After reading book 1, I had no choice but to immediately read book 2, as it left me hooked to this world. To be fair, I was already a junkie, thanks to the ‘Seven Sins’ trilogy. This installment is no less addictive than any other Thorn books.. While many questions are answered, more arise so it remains shrouded in mystery.

There’s loads of drama with her virtues between Lily herself and them and one another as well, so this added to the fun quite a bit for me. Left me absolutely needing more and I’m off to get lost in the next book …

HIGHLY recommend this series.
Also recommend reading ‘Seven Sins’ and ‘The Vampire Curse’ trilogies first though.

5 addicted stars.

I just really really really hate it when main character know everything better, do some bullshit that causes harm and the main character isn't learning anything from it.

Lily constantly thinks she knows everything better. Goes into situations unprepared, causes harm to others and then everything turns out perfectly.
Just no.

I am really angry after reading this. And no point did she learn from her stupid decisions. Nearly kills people and doesn't see anything wrong with it. Even blames others. It's never her fault, always someone elses.

I wouldn't want to be her friend. I wouldn't want to be near her.

When I saw "bully reverse harem" I didn't think the female main character was the bully.

This is not romance, it is abuse. I am honestly disgusted with how the harem treat the fmc. They use her as a toy for their pleasure and then treat her like garbage even after bonding with her. I have never read a book where the heroine was treated badly by her mates even after bonding. I kept hoping it would get better and it doesn’t. I kept hoping one of her mates would be worth the trouble, none of them are. I actually hate every single character in this series. It is tied for the worst book series I have ever read. Just awful.

Omg this series gets better and better. With lots of action from the first pages we get to see Lily and her vassels go through so many challenges, where she doesn't know of she can trust them anymore. While she gets to work this out and also forming her bonds to a few other of her vassels, we get to see her discover more about who she is through actions caused by many twists and turns. To be left with a crazy knock out ending hanging to a cliff. Totally can't wait for year three.

Listen, I like to think that I have a realistic expectation of books like these. I have read my share of reverse harem Academy fantasy romances. Also, the fact that the series has nine books is insane.

But I was so let down by this book because the idea is great but all the characters suck. This entire book was just about her virtues treating her like garbage and her making excuses for them. I mean Orion literally was still hitting on her mom after they bonded.

She even recognizes that they are all lying to her and using her and yet she is just letting it happen happen. She has no spine. She is as limp as a pool noodle. and don’t even get me started on Hendrick.

And there’s no real relationship building because Lily doesn’t remember anything about herself so there’s nothing for her to bond with the virtues over so suddenly they are just having sex, but there’s no romantic intimacy. And the plot is just very all over the place. It both feels like it’s moving very slow and very fast all at the same time but it’s also very expected in a way.

And I just felt like everyone was telling her to get over it, to get over how the guys have treated her, to get over the fact everybody’s lying to her, to get over the fact that she has no memories, and now she’s supposed to save the universe. And also why is she doing nothing to better herself like she’s at the Academy And does not appear to be going to a single class to learn how to be magical.

In some reason, the only character I like is Olivia.

Let the journey of self discovery begin!

A lot happens in this book and I was there for every second. Lilly still hasn’t awakened. We get to see her interact more with her guys and all of the behind-the-scenes Fuckery happens.

I liked that, even though Lily was discovering things about herself that she didn’t like she still maintained a higher level of badassery. The one thing I didn’t care for was how much internal self doubt she had. It became kind of annoying. I felt she was truly justified in the way she felt about information that came to light. I understood the anger and frustration that was quite prominent during much of the story. Her little side quest was rather informative. I hope we see more of the characters we met then.

I’m not sure what I think of the virtue bond. It seemed to compel them to be together regardless of their feelings, and that doesn’t necessarily sit right with me. There is a purpose for all things, and hopefully they will start to make more sense as the series progresses.

Overall, I felt that this was a good second installment and I’m curious to see what happens next. If you liked book one, then I would give this book a read.

First things first, did the editor forget to edit this book?? My mind can make out simple typo's and read misspelled words the way they're meant to be read, but when a whole sentence is messed up? Not so much.

This book didn't have the same appeal as the first one. I liked that Lily's virtue's weren't instantly in love and all that crap just because of their bond, well, Kaito excluded.. it shows that they have free will and there is still such a thing as consent in this universe. That being said, they were insufferable and almost unredeemable bullies. More so than in book one, which ought to say something. Aside from Logan and Dante the rest of her virtue's can go away for all I care.

There was just way too much unnecessary explicit content in this book. Also I'm quite over everyone being hot and their bodies described as having "hard edges" and whatnot. It's gotten so repetitive.

Aside from the above I liked the actual plot and Olivia! And the fact that we got to learn more about the Echoes of Calamity.

Honestly, Jess and Olivia should've been her virtue's.

In "Fortune Academy: Year Two," Lily continues her journey at the supernatural academy, where she must unite her five Virtues—Kaito, Hendrik, Logan, Dante, and Orion. Each of these men brings their own challenges and secrets, making Lily's task anything but easy. As the Third Echo of Calamity looms, Lily must prepare herself and her Virtues for the ultimate test of their powers and fortitude. The heat intensifies in this light bully reverse harem romance, where no choosing is required, and the stakes are higher than ever.

This installment was a great addition to the series. The plot keeps thickening, ensuring you're constantly engaged and eager for more. The steam is palpable and well-executed, though I do wish there was a bit more. However, given the shorter length of the books, it's understandable. I'm particularly intrigued by how the characters will continue to develop and work together. The dynamics between Lily and her Virtues are interesting, and I can't wait to see how they all fit into the larger narrative. Excited to dive into the next book!

4 stars for Fortune Academy :Year Two by J.R. Thorn. This is book one in the Fortune Academy. “You chose your Virtues, not the universe. And if you can’t trust yourself, then you can’t trust anyone.” Lily has found her harem of hotties or Virtues as they are called. The problem is it doesn’t seem like they wanted to be found. You have Hendrick, an evil dark mage who seems to just be using Lily. Logan, who only wants Lily for himself, but only if he says so. Dante who I’m not sure can be trusted and has been missing for awhile. Orion who is nothing but a horny playboy. Then we have Kaito, her counselor, who brought her there but won’t share why with her. I am still not sure about these Virtues she has chosen. Lily isn’t sure who she can trust anymore. We do learn who and 2/3 of what Lily is. (Finally, Right) The story does end on a big cliffhanger and I cant wait to see what happens next.

I like this story!

There needs to be better world building and description, I know what buildings look like more than characters. Literally, the only description of characters is: the mains blonde hair which I can tell by the cover, and the uniqueness of characters eyes! I literally had to create chatacter features from scratch in my head which isnt hard to do but I noticed halfway through the second book that I actually have no idea what anyone looks like!

That being said, the story is dope! I actually wish the books were bigger and honestly they would be if those added descriptions were in there. I'm definitely going to keep reading though!

P.S, I am also used to very spicy reading levels, though there is an appropriate amount of spicy scenes that fit well into the plot, the scenes are brief and straight to the point. This just feels like more a 2/5 grade spice.

There's a reoccurring theme

Each book ends in a cliffhanger. I'm making my way through these books, one small battle at a time. They're well written and the plot is intriguing, but the story as a whole (all of the books combined) is slow moving. It's not like most sequels were each book ends with the main plot and conflict of the book resolved, and the next book with a different plot and conflict is then resolved, and so on. These books are a continued story of one main plot and conflict, and within each book is a subplot pertaining to the main characters struggle to meet her full potential and connect with her Virtues. It's a good story, but it takes patience to get through if you're more interested in the adventure aspect than you are the romance.

This series is so literally so good I don’t get why people don’t enjoy it! Maybe it isn’t to there taste but I loved every second of it I’ve read the first two books in like 2 days.

I was amazed by the first book but I love the second one even more. Lily is a confident woman and her confidence continues to grow throughout the book she also has a perfect attitude, also why did her mates all have to be so fine especially Dante he’s the best outta all of them idc what y’all say ❤️all though I just hope they can save all the realms.

The spice in these books was just the right amount of spice for me although Logan be missing out on some of the spice wolf boy needs more attention!

Dante is perfection and literally mine (I see Daniel sharman as Dante ofc ❤️)
